I too display certain pins in shadow boxes. They look great. I just get some shadow boxes at the local craft shop like AC Moore or Michael's. Nice frames with black cloth background. For the smaller boxes I put 1 or 2 pins in. For the bigger boxes, I'll put certain sets or similar pins. I did this for my sons for X-Mas. I got the bigger boxes & went through their pin collections & created a Mickey boxed set & a Villains boxed set. They loved them & they look great on the wall or their dresser.

I frame the sets and I cork board the rest- That picture is a little outdated as I pulled all my Lilo and Stitch and gave them their own cork board (plus added my May pins)
We display our pins in a two room warehouse. We have the walls almost completely covered with framed sets. We also have bookshelves, a glass topped display case,we also have (from the old Disney Store) 3 glass display cubes, a glassed in 4 panel cabinet- previously a watch cabinet in the stores), 2 snowglobe fixtures, and an old DS jewelry fixture which we have converted to a 4 sided pin fixture by removing the display hooks and adding corkboard.
Just today I found some inexpensive 8 x 10 shadow box frames at Walmart $3.
I'm going to use the foam board stuff for backing and individual pin framing.
I like using maps, postcards, Disney history stuff as background.
I haven't put anything together yet, just gathering ideas!
I have some custom-framed, but most are in my pin binder.
My favorite custom-framed piece is pretty big ... we had it made to commemorate the Millennium.
It has a 5x7 of dh and me in front of SpaceShip Earth at night, along with 2 Millennium Disney Dollars (front and back, side-by-side), our room keys, our personalized planner that we got through Disney, and several pins - the "I Was There", one from our resort, and the SE Pin w/the 2000 over it. Everything is individually matted (well, the DDs, the room keys, and the pin groups are matted together) and it turned out great!!
