I am SO excited for this weekend! I feel like my last 2 runDisney race weekends were pretty pressure-filled - Wine & Dine HAD to go well because if it did, I’d feel better about Dopey. Dopey HAD to go well because there was a marathon at the end and I didn’t want to die. I think the only things I’m worried about for Princess are surviving the expo and that my friends coming with me (we’ll call them GSF1 and GSF2 - for “Grad School Friend 1 & 2” since that is where we met) have fun and don’t think I am totally insane by the end of the trip, since I am the #1 Disney freak. So far they seem excited about the trip and impressed by my planning knowledge, so I think we’re off to a good start. :thumbsup2 I just need our Magic Bands to come (hopefully some time this week!) and I think we’ll be all set!

So...week 2 obviously did not go as planned. :worried:

Monday was fine. Lifting and yoga were good! Mr. A was feeling a little under the weather today, and when he gets sick it's only a matter of time before I am, too! :( I woke up on Tuesday feeling a little throat and ear pain - the run was good, but I basically hit the wall that evening and was in bed by 9:30, which is crazy early for me.

Wednesday was more of the same - run was fine, throat and ear pain still there, another early bedtime. But another issue I'd noticed last week was creeping up again - hip pain. :( Specifically on my left side, on the front - right where my leg and pelvis meet (hip flexor?). It felt sore on a Tuesday and pretty much all day on Wednesday. Maybe I should have taken an extra week off after the marathon? I had the bright idea to Google this hip pain and Dr. Google is basically making it sound like I need a hip replacement...:rolleyes2 Seriously, the first possibility that came up was a stress fracture! This definitely feels like a muscle strain of some kind, so I think I'll go ahead and not jump to the worst-case scenario...sigh.

On Thursday I still felt like a cold was coming. I did lift and go to work, which was fine. Another early bedtime, and I decided that in order to hopefully stop the sick feeling and hip pain that I should take Friday, Saturday and Sunday off. Thankfully the bug seemed to be gone for good by Friday evening (for both of us it felt like we were in the beginning stages of a cold for 2-3 days, but it never actually morphed into a full-blown cold...weird).

The hip pain is mostly gone right now...but that is something I will definitely be keeping an eye on going forward. At this point I'm going to see how things go tomorrow, and if it's still bugging me I'll take the rest of the week off from running, I think. I'd rather rest more and have this go away for good than try to run through it and make it worse. :confused3 I'm trying to stretch it more (I went to yoga today - which was mostly good, I did *feel* the hip a couple of times. I got some input from my yoga teacher on this and she gave me some stretches to do that will hopefully help) and will be shifting my run days to hopefully rest it a little more. Boo! Just cooperate, body!!

Anyway...have a good week, all! :upsidedow

Google is a not a good place to work towards self diagnosis! If I listened to google - I would have been dead at least like a dozen times now.

Glad you are feeling better - some days its just better to rest than overdo it!

Sorry to hear you were fighting off a cold! That time of year I guess. Hip pain! Boo!! Dr. Google is the worst though so glad to hear the hip is feeling better.

And the plan for Princess sounds great-just relax and enjoy without stress. That's how I feel about Tinkerbell and I'm so happy to have a trip planned with low expectations!! :D

This is going to be one of those times where I pull out my physical therapy knowledge ... you don't need a hip replacement. It's probably a muscle issue. I'm glad it's gotten better, but if it starts to hurt again, try RICE (rest, ice, compression, elevation), and if that doesn't help, go see a doctor.

Seriously - my husband googled some symptoms he had once and it basically said he had stomach cancer!

Yeah, I'm not sure about this hip pain. I'm not freaking out yet but it's a little concerning.

Here's hoping we both have some fun race weekends!! :yay:

Whew, thanks!

I've been thinking about it more...I think I'm going to wait a few more days before I start running again. Better safe than sorry, right? :scratchin It's definitely a pain I get when bringing my leg forward. Bleh!

Bummer! A cold and hip pain...ugh! Feel better! It does sound like a hip flexor. You're doing the right thing. Resting and maybe light stretching or yoga. You got this! :thumbsup2

Sounds like your hip flexor to me. Some pigeon poses should help stretch it out.
So no hip replacement?! Has Google *gasp* EXAGGERATED this??

------------------------------------------------------

So - conundrum. :scratchin I have decided that I'm going take most of this week off to rest the ol' hip flexor and may attempt a run this weekend. At this point I am accepting that I will not be as trained as I was hoping to be for Princess. I figure best-case scenario I will be back to a somewhat regular schedule next week...worst case I will need another week off. Ack! I know it's better to be undertrained than injured going into a race, and I DID just do the marathon, and it's not like that endurance will totally go away...but it's not ideal.

I did lift this morning and that was fine, and I'm planning on going to yoga tonight.

So I'm thinking...assuming I can get back to running next week, I'm going to keep it at 3 days per week of running to get me to Princess. I'm thinking something like this:

Week of 2/6: a 3-miler, a 4-miler and a 6-8 miler
Week of 2/13: a 3-miler, a 5-miler and a 8-10 miler

EDIT: OMG I leave for Princess in a little over 3 weeks WHAT IN THE WORLD!!

Thoughts?? I normally don't crowd-source for my training plans but I think I need outside opinions of whether or not this sounds like too much or not enough. I'd feel better getting to a 10-mile long run, but I've done quite a few half marathons at this point, so I know I can get through it. And I don't want to, like, be an idiot and overdo it and tear my hip flexor or something. :confused3

ALSO - Ohio remembered that it's winder and we got a ton of snow dumped on us, with more to come...so that will make things interesting.

I'm no expert...lord knows, but I think you're well trained! I was having pains between 9/23 half and W&D and didn't run more than 6 miles. I ran 3-4/wk and felt great.

Your plan looks good to me! Sorry your hip is giving you problems. I started to have some hip pain training for the full but I think it was from overuse more than anything else. I think since you have a lot of experience with challenges at Disney, resting then sticking to your three day a week plan should be good.

Having just done the marathon a few weeks ago, I think if you can follow that 2 week plan leading up to Princess you'll be fine. My primary advice would be to slow down your pace if you need to and just cover the miles. Don't hurt yourself first and foremost. I'd think if you stick with your other cross-training and yoga in the interim that will do a lot to keep your general fitness up and the miles you do in a couple of weeks will carry you through race day. Sorry you are having to deal with more aches and pains!!

Your plan looks fine. You've got enough experience to know how to run a half, and the 10 miles will get your legs ready for what's to come. Work on your hip. The rest will take care of itself.

Thanks! I'm no expert either...mostly makes me feel better to know others have looked at this and don't think it's completely stupid. :)

Yeah, I think overuse may be the issue for me, not taking enough time off after the marathon. Lesson learned!

I think that pace has something to do with it. I was definitely trying to run faster last week, so maybe that, along with needing more rest after the marathon, is where this came from! Duh.

Thanks, appreciate the input. I hope I can get to 10...I think that would be a mental help more than anything. :confused3 Plus it's not like I was planning on breaking any records at these races anyway! :rotfl2:

My husband did Rebel Challenge with his longest run after Wine & Dine being 7 miles I think.

I did Rebel Challenge with 8 Miles as my max.

You've done this before and you did complete the Dopey just a few weeks ago. You got this!

Thank you!! This makes me feel better. :) I just hope I'm not miserable the entire time, ya know?

Dang it!! Just saw the latest email from InB and am loving that Anahata tech shirt. I was doing so well in resisting lately too.

Yeah, I most definitely ordered that one! And of course it looks really good with the Serpent capris...which I sold a few weeks ago. :(
