A Pink Pixie Princess - Complete!

Wednesday was more of the same - run was fine, throat and ear pain still there, another early bedtime. But another issue I'd noticed last week was creeping up again - hip pain. :( Specifically on my left side, on the front - right where my leg and pelvis meet (hip flexor?). It felt sore on a Tuesday and pretty much all day on Wednesday. Maybe I should have taken an extra week off after the marathon? I had the bright idea to Google this hip pain and Dr. Google is basically making it sound like I need a hip replacement...:rolleyes2 Seriously, the first possibility that came up was a stress fracture! This definitely feels like a muscle strain of some kind, so I think I'll go ahead and not jump to the worst-case scenario...sigh.

The hip pain is mostly gone right now...but that is something I will definitely be keeping an eye on going forward. At this point I'm going to see how things go tomorrow, and if it's still bugging me I'll take the rest of the week off from running, I think. I'd rather rest more and have this go away for good than try to run through it and make it worse. :confused3 I'm trying to stretch it more (I went to yoga today - which was mostly good, I did *feel* the hip a couple of times. I got some input from my yoga teacher on this and she gave me some stretches to do that will hopefully help) and will be shifting my run days to hopefully rest it a little more. Boo! Just cooperate, body!!

I don't want to make you worry any more, but your pain sounds just like my stress fracture. Right in the place where leg and pelvis meet. I was absolutely certain it was a strain or just overuse of my hip flexor. It would seem better, then start again. For the first couple of weeks it was little more than a nagging pain--not really something that I would even stop for, more like "hmm, that's different". I had a stress fracture in my foot a few years ago, and this was nothing like that.

Keep resting it more and stretching it, but if it gets any worse, don't wait to see the doc. Mine has healed very well (and pretty quickly) because we caught it before the fracture completed. The only reason I talked myself into going to the doc is that this can be a really devastating injury if the femoral neck fractures all the way across.

Thanks. I do have an appointment made for Friday just to be safe. :)

It's Princess Half Marathon Month! princess:

I wanted to weigh in on the injury too as I had so many problems getting mine diagnosed. I was having pain on the inside of my upper leg. Thought it might be a groin injury or muscle issue. Doctor diagnosed it as a muscle strain and I continued on my way, cutting back on the running though. Ends up it was a stress fracture in the femoral neck. I could still walk with a limp but I could not bear weight on that leg alone. That was the true test, whether I could bear weight when standing on that one leg. Had to get an MRI for the fracture to show up, it didn't on the X-rays. Ended up being 3 months of no running and crutches. Just be careful, mine was caused by overuse, and not stopping running when I should have. Also, see an orthopedist if you can. Hope your injury heals quickly.

Oh gosh, I hope you heal up too and that it's an easy ouch to fix!

I would be a nightmare if I had this purse in the parks. I would feel the need to quote Ursula at a moments notice pretty much all day.
"We haven't discussed the subject of payment."
"Don't underestimate the importance of "body language."
"The men up there don't like a lot of blabber"
"If you want to cross a bridge you have to pay the toll"
"Siiing, Siiiiing....Siiiiiiiing"

It would get annoying real quick and I'd love every minute :)

Ahh! So fun! Love it!

Yes!! Purse update!! I love it!

LOVE that purse and wallet combo!!
I just love Disney purses, you guys. But you knew that!

Oh no! That sounds awful. :(

I have an appointment! No limping or anything like that so I guess that's a good sign!

Annoying...or AWESOME?! :teeth:

I'm trying not to jump to conclusions about this hip thing (which is really not bothering me much anymore). Hopefully rest is the cure!

LOVE the Ursula purse!! Glad to hear your hip seems to be healing on its own. Hope the doctor's appointment confirmed that.

Princess Half Marathon Weekend Training

Week 3 (1/30 - 2/5)

MO: lifting/yoga
TU: rest
WE: lifting
TH: 0.25 miles
FR: yoga
SA: 30 minutes biking/30 minutes elliptical

SU: rest

Lifting and yoga continue to go well! As I said earlier in the thread, I did make a doctor's appointment this week to get my hip checked out. I called for it on Tuesday night and the appointment was on Friday.

I decided to try a short run on Thursday - just for a few minutes - because by that point I honestly couldn't remember where the pain had been. :confused3 It has barely been bothering me for awhile now and as I said to Mr. A before the appointment, I really wasn't sure what I was going to tell this guy! My theory going into the appointment was that my issues were a combination of IT Band annoyances (because sometimes the pain would be on the outside of my hip) and the lingering joys of sciatica (because I still have weakness in my left leg and sometimes I have pain near my hip flexor...so I thought maybe my hip flexor had been working overtime to bring my weak left leg forward when running). On Friday I had x-rays done on the hip and the appointment went really well - the physician's assistant I saw agreed with my thoughts on why the pain was happening and said he didn't see any evidence of stress fractures or any issues with my bones/joints - if a stress fracture was starting up he would see it on the x-ray and I would be in constant pain, which I am not. So I guess it's some inflammation or a strain. He said to stretch it out and not run for 2 weeks to give it awhile to calm down - and to do some cross training/non-weight bearing cardio instead - but that I should be fine for Princess weekend. :) (I specifically asked him if it was a bad idea and he said no!) Then I can slowly increase my mileage after Princess is done. Woohoo! This is basically exactly how I was hoping this appointment would go, so I am relieved and glad that I got it checked out!

Obviously this is not the way I would ideally want to prepare for GSC + the 5K, but I'm hoping that lifting, yoga and the cardio I am doing will be enough to get me through. And I would think there's some lingering fitness leftover from the marathon that will help me out, too. Plus the fact that, you know...it's not like I'm trying to set world-record paces during these runs, and I am a-ok with walk breaks. :upsidedow

Right now, I'm planning on 45 minutes of biking/elliptical (ellipticizing? Ellipticalling?) twice per week with a longer session on Saturdays. Yesterday I bought a day pass to our "community fitness room" and did 30 minutes on a bike (6 miles) and 30 minutes on the elliptical (2.65 miles). I'm not a huge fan of biking but it went well. Next weekend I am planning on doing 45 minutes on each, and then 60 minutes on each the weekend after. The thought is to try to do the same amount of cardio time-wise that I'd be doing for my long runs...again, not ideal, but it's something! I'm hoping to try a short run or two the week I leave for WDW.

Other things from this week...

- While the hip is giving me trouble, my back has been feeling pretty good! I have been hitting the PT hard since around Thanksgiving and it's definitely made a difference. I'm still feeling some weakness and numbness on my left side, but my back doesn't hurt near as much as it did a few weeks ago.

- On Thursday I realized that someone had stolen our credit card number!! So we've been trying to get that sorted out. My PSA of the day: check your credit card accounts regularly! If you do, you may see a charge from Hulu (when you have no Hulu account) and tickets purchased on Delta airlines (which you yourself did not purchase...and your husband did not purchase even though the Chase rep was all "well you never know......." :faint:). Sigh. :rolleyes2 People are mean! That card is closed obviously (shoutout to Chase Security - they closed the card within a minute or so of my call and forgave the bogus charges), we've both had credit reports pulled (no red flags), and we've filed a police report - Mr. Ariel484 even managed to get the person's name and where they were flying to from Delta! Still not sure how he pulled that off. Hopefully the person gets busted!

- In better news, Princess corrals came out! I landed in Corral F for the half, and I'm assuming that'll translate to being in Corral B for the 10K. My 5K number looks like it translates to being in Corral A - VERY happy with this! :yay: Magic Bands came (not a fan of the bigger ones :confused3) so I mailed those out to my grad school friends and fine-tuned our plans a little bit yesterday. I'm a little nervous for the hip-related crap, but overall I am pretty excited for this trip! :)

Now back to watching the Puppy Bowl and waiting for Lady Gaga to perform! princess: Happy Sunday!

I'm glad you got the OK to go ahead with Princess Weekelend. Even with 2 weeks off from running, if you keep up your activity level, you should still be able to finish all three races in decent shape.

Having a credit card number stolen is one of my big fears. My dad has had it happen twice (I think ... about 5-6 years apart, different cards). At least your credit card company was good about it! I think Chase is usually really good about those things.

Yay for good corral placement! Corral A ... that's the runDisney dream!

Enjoy the puppy bowl! I'm probably skipping all bowl-related activities today, because I hate the Patriots, Lady Gaga's music bugs me (I don't know why, but her songs just get on my nerves ... whatever), and the commercials haven't been good in a few years. I watched a hockey game this afternoon ... that's my sporting for the day.

Glad your hip is feeling better! Slow clap for Corral A!! My husband and I were Corral A for the Castaway Cay challenge and we had someone take our picture with our bibs visible becasue we figured this would be the only time we would ever be there.

Glad your hip isn't anything major, it's so easy to overuse the hips. Yeah better to be undertrained going in to princess then hurting for sure. Credit Card fraud sucks, I dealt with it on 2 cards last summer/fall. Crazy someone used it for a flight.

I kept thinking during Lady Gaga's halftime show looked like a great cardio workout!

Good to hear that it's nothing serious with your hip and you can get back to running soon. Sucks about the credit card but hey at least it wasn't a debit card - that's when the real fun starts.

I have this strange want to go listen to Shakira now......

Glad to hear your appt went well! CC fraud stinks! I've had it happen too! Ugh, jerks! Looks like we could "run" into each other at PHM.

So glad both your hip and back are feeling better. Sorry to hear that about your credit card- it's nice that everything checked out ok and you were refunded, but it's such as hassle to go through. And finally... corral A for the 5K = awesome!!
