To all who come to this happy place: Welcome!

Welcome to my first trip report!

We just got back from an amazing trip at WDW with our hearts a little fuller, our waistbands a little tighter and our bodies a little sorer. Is that a word? More sore is probably correct grammar but that doesn’t flow as well. Also I do science not English.

The post-Disney blues are hitting me real hard so I can’t wait to relive our trip through this report.

We hit most of our favorites and did a lot of new things.

Two big highlights were the DVD Moonlight Magic event at MK and Flower and Garden at Epcot.

So, who are we?

87C455E1-C7DD-4D66-A601-9C6F327D988A_zpsdumqms40.jpg

I’m Abby. The one on the left, not the hairy guy on the right. That’s my boyfriend Nate. He didn’t go with us on this trip because our spring breaks didn’t line up, but he’s cute and I like to show him off. And that’s our dog Skye, and I just like to grace everyone with her cuteness. I’m a 21 years old (not 15 like everyone thinks.) physician assistant student. I’ve loved Disney for as long as I can remember and I’m not even sure how many trips this has been. Maybe 10? I love watching Disney movies (mostly the classics), listening to Disney podcasts, reading dining reviews and absorbing as much Disney info as possible. My favorite park is MK but Epcot is a real close second. My favorite movies are Peter Pan, Robin Hood and 101 Dalmatians. My favorite characters are Peter Pan and Minnie Mouse. My favorite rides are Peter Pan’s Flight (are you sensing a theme here), RnR, Everest and Maelstrom (RIP).

I went with my sister, Sarah (left) and my mom (middle). This picture is from last year, but it’s the only decent picture of the three of us. We are not photogenic. My mom started my Disney addiction and she’s the only person who will listen to my ramblings without thinking I’m weird. My sister likes Disney, but isn’t into the planning as much.

This trip was for my spring break. I know Disney is every 21 year olds choice for spring break. We were there from Feb. 25-Mar. 4 and we stayed at Saratoga Springs.

We got a good deal on tickets $79/day, and we were there for the second DVC Moonlight Magic event at MK on the 3rd, our last night of the trip.

I think I’ll end the intro here and try to get a short update of our arrival day up tomorrow.

See ya real soon!

Saturday February 25
Arrival Day

It’s finally Disney Day! After an uneventful drive to Pittsburgh we got to the airport (2 ½ hours early) and sped through security. Thank you TSA pre-check! Our flight was fairly smooth other than the 20 minutes of turbulence at the beginning. I had the pleasure of sitting next to my mom who HATES flying. Seriously, she takes drugs before she flies. She held my hand pretty much the entire first half of the flight.

Side note: the cranberry apple juice that they serve on flights is my favorite thing in the world, but they don’t sell it in any stores. I think it’s Minute Maid. It's the bomb.com

After the 2-hour flight we were finally in Florida!

We took the fake-o-rail and made the trek to ME and were the last ones on the bus so we left right away.

Here's my terrible picture of entering WDW.
We pulled up to the first stop, Saratoga Springs, got off the bus and hear those magical words.

WELCOME HOME!!!!

Does anyone else love that as much as I do?

Our room was already ready since it was after 6 at this point, so after a quick stop at the front desk to get my sister a birthday button we were off to our room…

We only walked around the entire resort before we found it. They really need more signage telling you where the sections are. Or we’re just stupid. Our building was literally right across the street from the pool. Our room was at the very end of the first floor, but luckily we found a shortcut door later that night. We put our carry-ons in the room, since our luggage hadn’t arrived yet, and walked to the boat launch and headed to Disney Springs.

It. Was. So. Crowded.

Granted it was a Saturday night at 7 and it was race weekend, but this is how I felt.

We knew we wanted to try Dluxe at some point so we decided to try it tonight because everyplace was going to be crowded. Normally I’m starving after a day of traveling, but for some reason I wasn’t that hungry so my sister and I split the Barbeque classic burger.

I forgot my phone so I snagged this off the internet machine. Thanks whoever's photo this is!

It was alright. They said they cook it medium but it seemed more medium well so I think it would have been better with more red. I also didn’t get any onion ring on my half. I would go back though and get my own burger some fries and dipping sauces and a milkshake. My mom had the classic cheeseburger, which she really liked.

It was obviously dark out and even though the new town center looked gorgeous we decided to come back during the day so we could fully explore it since this was our first time there. So we just went over to the marketplace because we know the layout of that like the back of our hand. We did some shopping in WoD, and then went over to Goofy’s Candy Co. to do something I didn’t even know existed before the Dis.

Make your own treats!

I got a mickey rice krispy treat covered in milk chocolate with crushed Oreos and a white chocolate drizzle.

Yummmmm! So good and so sweet. I got some milk from SS when we got back and ate about half of it and saved the rest for later.

We decided to walk back since we were in the Marketplace, and we walked, and walked.

Why is this resort so big? And so confusing?

Eventually we found our way back and relaxed in the room watching some Stacy J before drifting off to sleep. Not the most restful sleep though. We were in a studio and those queen beds are not big enough for two adults to share especially when you’re used to a king bed.

But who needs to sleep in Disney anyway?

Up next: more DS exploring and Afternoon Tea

Following along, can't wait to hear about your trip! I wanted to do Moonlight magic sooooo badly, but with an 8 year old in the mix we weren't sure he'd be able to hang (or more truthfully, he could, but could we!??!?!). Can't wait to hear all about it!!

Following along here, I've never been to Disney during spring break and have wondered how crowded it is.

What airline did you take? (I also love to have cranberry apple juice when we fly down to MCO on JetBlue!) :-)

Looking forward to reading more:flower1:

I'm here! Great start to your fun girls trip! I know how crowded WDW was...I did not even venture into Disney Springs. I hope it got better during the week. The weekend was nuts! I have never stayed at Saratoga Springs. It looks really pretty though. I like how it's so close to Disney Springs though. Are you able to walk there from SS?

Moonlight Magic was one of the highlights of the trip for me. I wish I had gotten a picture of how empty it was. There were quite a few young kids there which surprised me. We ended up leaving at around 12:30 so even we couldn't hang the whole time.

Thankfully my school has spring break earlier than most other schools so we hit it before the real spring break crowds. The weekend we arrived was busy just because of the Princess races. I know this week and next week are supposed to be much more crowded.

What airline did you take? (I also love to have cranberry apple juice when we fly down to MCO on JetBlue!)
The past two trips we've taken Southwest. It seems to be the cheapest from PIT. I asked the flight attendants if I could have a can of cranberry juice when we got off, but they wouldn't let me:sad:

The weekend was nuts! We didn't go to the parks on Sunday which was probably a good thing. It definitely cleared out as the week went on.

I have never stayed at Saratoga Springs. It looks really pretty though. I like how it's so close to Disney Springs though. Are you able to walk there from SS?
My dad kind of hoards timeshares so we've stayed at a lot and thats what SS is. It certainly doesn't have that Disney feel, and it was showing some wear, especially the bathroom. If you have a big family though and need a kitchen it's a good option, and less expensive than the other Deluxes. Our building wasn't really walking distance to DS, but the boat was close and we were close to the main building/pool. I know there are sections that are really close to the path to DS I just don't know which ones. We did spend a lot more time at DS than we usually do though.

We’ve been back for a week and I still haven’t unpacked. So to avoid doing that and cleaning my house I’m going to write some more!

Sunday February 26

We slept in and slowly got ready and went to Artist’s Palette, SS quick service location, for breakfast. I got the country breakfast burrito.

Scrambled Eggs, Diced Onion, Peppers, Breakfast Potatoes, Sausage and Cheddar Cheese wrapped in a Whole Wheat Tortilla
It was nothing special, not something I would get again, but it filled me up I didn’t even finish it, which is unusual for me.

After breakfast we headed to Disney Springs. I think we took the bus to see if it was quicker than the boat, and to see where it dropped you off.

Our conclusion: the boat was faster.

We wanted to explore the new areas of DS in the light so we walked around, did some more shopping. We stopped into Amorette’s, but didn’t get anything yet.

I think this store was called DLiving and it was themed to Beauty and the Beast and was just so pretty.
We left around 12:30 and went back to SS to change and caught a bus to MK.

We got to MK and walked right past the mob of people at bag check and straight to the monorail. We took the monorail to…

The Grand Floridian!

I love this resort. I need to stay here. No, I need to live here!

We still had about an hour until our reservation, so we explored the GF. As we were walking down to the lobby we saw a bride taking pictures. Swoon! I’m currently planning my Disney wedding. I’m just missing the ring. Minor detail.

We walked around the GF, saw the pool and the wedding pavilion.

We checked in around 2:30 and waited for a text that our table was ready.

I guess I should tell you where we were eating.

We were having Afternoon Tea at the Garden View Tea Room!

We did this last year and it was our favorite thing from that trip so we knew we wanted to repeat it.

I’m going to do a separate post on the tea because I have so many pictures, but it was just as great as last year.

Here’s my one complaint. I’ll preface this by saying I love kids and I think this would be a great experience for kids. There was a family with a baby and a maybe two year old and this is a long experience for a two year old to sit still for. When we got there they were wailing and they cried until they left which was about halfway through our meal. I could tell the parents were frustrated and I’d be frustrated too if my kid wouldn’t stop crying while we’re trying to enjoy a nice meal. So in my opinion, and I obviously don’t have kids but I wouldn’t bring kids younger than 5 to this unless they can sit still for a long time.

At some point in the day, I think 3:30 or 4, the kids gather and walk down the stairs into the lobby and get to waltz with Cinderella and Prince Charming. It was so cute!

We took the monorail back to MK and the bus back to SS and spent the night in the hot tub. I got a moscato colada from the bar. It was a good pool drink. Here’s another picture I got off the internet.

We were hungry around 9 so we got some food from artist’s palette.

Look at this beautiful plate of brown! Chicken nuggets and chips. The nuggets were of course good and the chips were homemade so they were really crispy and yummy.

Following along! We're DLR vets who are making our first WDW trip in less than a month from now. We've done afternoon tea at the Disneyland Hotel (Steakhouse 55), and as a parent of two (DD12 and DS8), I agree that it's not appropriate to take a two-year-old to this sort of activity! My kids love things like this and are used to dining out and making quiet conversation while doing so, but we were sitting next to a table full of kids who were bored and playing on iPads with the volume turned on. Really an atmosphere killer!

Great update! Love the pictures, yes would love to see pictures from tea service as I have never done this but was thinking about it.

I love Moscato and have never heard of a Moscato Colada - another thing to put on my bucket list!!

Loved the video of Cindy & Prince Charming, realy nice. Yep there is something about the lobby of the GF, it's so special. Looking forward to the next update:tilt::tilt:

Great tr so far...excited to read more. I cant wait to see that new store in DS. Looks amazing! :)

I love kids and I know that Disney is full of them, but yeah it was a little bit of an atmosphere killer. Have a great time in WDW! One of these days I'll make it to DLR.

Enjoying your trip report. I could take a moscato colada right now!
If it wasn't 30 degrees here I could take a moscato colada too!

Following along and loving your TR so far! :)
Thank you!

Great update! Love the pictures, yes would love to see pictures from tea service as I have never done this but was thinking about it.
Hopefully I'll get the afternoon tea update up tomorrow. I thought I'd get these out sooner, but school got crazy the past couple of weeks.

I love Moscato and have never heard of a Moscato Colada - another thing to put on my bucket list!!
I thought it was Moscato like the wine, but it's actually a type of vodka. It gives it a slight grape flavor. Still good though!

Great tr so far...excited to read more. I cant wait to see that new store in DS. Looks amazing! :)
You kind of forget it's a store because it's themed so well. I wish they would do more of the stores like that. They said it changes based on the season/big movie coming up. I'd love to see it at fall and Christmas time.

Afternoon Tea at the Garden View Tea Room

We checked in for our 2:40 PM reservation at about 2:30 and walked through the store next door until our table was ready. We got seated and met our waitress who was great. We looked over the menu. We did the tea last year and the menu is pretty much the same, but now they have a set menu of a sandwich plate, a scone, you choice of dessert and a kettle of tea. All of the teas include those, and then you choose what you want to add on. The Bedfordshire tea consists of all of those and nothing else and is $35. The Derbyshire includes a glass of champagne and is $50. The Cheshire tea includes an exotic cheese and fruit plate and is $50. The Berkshire tea is for two people and includes caviar and is $150. Here are some pictures of the menu and the tea flavors.

I had the apple and elderflower tea. I like green teas and this one is really light. They even have sugar cubes for you to sweeten your tea with.

I chose the Cheshire tea because I wanted to try the cheese plate.

The cheeses included (R-L) a sharp cheddar, brie, some kind of blue cheese and I forget the last one but it was a milder cheese. My favorite was the cheddar. I wasn’t a huge fan of the others but I’m not a big cheese person unless you count string cheese. I just wanted to try something different. The plate did include some fresh honeycomb, which was really good with all of the cheeses. The fruit was really fresh, and it was nice to have something other than grapes and blueberries.

The next course was the sandwich plate.

My least favorite was the golden beet. It was just too vinegary. I don’t like cucumbers so that wasn’t high on my list, but I’m sure if you’re a fan of cucumbers you would enjoy it. My favorites were the egg salad, because I’m weird and love egg salad, and the curry chicken salad. Last year I remember the bread of all the sandwiches being a touch stale. This year it seemed much fresher. Also included was an onion tart and some more cheese and lavosh. The onion tart was probably my favorite thing of the whole meal. They’re caramelized so they’re really sweet and it’s small enough that it’s not too much onion. The cheese and lavosh is nothing special.

The scones and desserts were brought out together.

The scone is golden raisin and comes with lemon curd, clotted cream, and apricot jam. It also comes with a little tart that I think is strawberry. This scone is OMG! It’s more like a biscuit, and I like to put clotted cream and the apricot jam on it and it’s so delicious.

For dessert you get a choice of strawberries topped with fresh whipped cream, pastries, or seasonal trifle, which was banana caramel when we were there. I went with the banana caramel. I can’t even describe how good this was. The caramel soaked into the ladyfingers and the bananas and Chantilly cream were so rich and then topped with the lightest whipped cream. I was so sad I couldn’t finish it all. I tried as hard as I could.

Overall this is a great meal and it may not seem like a lot of food, but it definitely fills you up. I probably wouldn’t get the cheese plate again so that I have enough room for the dessert. It’s a little pricy, but it’s a nice splurge especially if you have little girls that like to dress up and have tea parties, or want a nice relaxing meal.

Joining in! I totally know what you're saying about SS. We stayed there on our honeymoon, and it's JUST. SO. BIG. I would love to stay there again someday, but for now, we're sticking with values and moderates.

The tea sounds so fun, but I don't like tea. If I could get all the little sandwiches and whatnot and drink some lemonade, I'd be good!

Part 1

Here's a little mood music for you.

Animal Kingdom day! I was really excited because we were trying a new to us restaurant, Tusker House.

We got a quick ride on Dinosaur and then Primeval Whirl. The wait for Primeval Whirl was posted as 15 minutes but we waited more like 20-25 minutes. Not something I’d do on every trip, but we hadn’t done it in a while. I had forgotten how jerky it is.

Story time: like 10 years ago we went with my Grandparents and we tricked my Grandma into going on Primeval Whirl because we told her it was mild. She screamed the entire time and told us she would never go on another ride with us again. Haha good times!

Then we made our way over to Tusker House for our 9:30 breakfast reservation. I had heard such good things about breakfast so I was really looking forward to it.

Here’s a crappy picture of the food area

These were my first plates. I started getting food on the little plate before I realized there were bigger plates.

Starting and the top going clockwise: Beef bobotie, corned beef hash with cornbread topping, ham, tator tots, potato and leek frittata
The hash was really good. Nice salty, meaty corned beef and potatoes paired really good with sweet cornbread. The ham was really good too. It had a nice spiced, smoked flavor. The tator tots were of course delicious. I wasn't really a fan of the frittata or bobotie. The frittata just had a weird flavor. I can't even describe it but it was just not good. The bobotie just wasn't my cup of tea because I don't really like curry or flavors like that. It also had some kind of fruit, I think golden raisins maybe, so you'd get a bite of sweet and I just didn't like the combination of flavors or textures.

This plate had a biscuit, plantain and banana bread pudding. If it was possible for me to eat my weight in that bread pudding I would. It was so good. More of a dessert, but I like sweet breakfast items. The plantain and biscuit were standard, nothing to write home about.

My third plate I got more of the bread pudding, hash and ham. I also added some curry chicken with rice. I know I said I don't like curry or similar spices, but I liked this. I know I'm weird. Maybe it wasn't even curry in the bobotie, but that's the only spice I can think it would be.
We all got glasses of the POG juice. It was just as delicious as everyone says.

The characters started coming around. We were stuffed in a corner table so it was really hard to get pictures with the characters because their costumes kind of take up a lot of room and it was super cramped. So our pictures are pretty horrible.

I don’t generally like meeting characters. It’s not even because I’m 21. I’ve never liked meeting characters. They don’t scare me or anything. I just don’t know what to say to them. For us character meals aren’t really a good deal, especially the buffets because we can’t eat enough food to cover the price and could really care less about characters. The food was great though so when I do have kids I wouldn’t hesitate to bring them to Tusker House.

After breakfast we had some time to kill before our FP for the 12:00 FoTLK show. I wanted to make it a point this trip to explore more of AK, so we walked through the Gorilla Falls Trail.

This meerkat standing up was so cute.

There were two baby gorillas that were wrestling each other and started rolling down the hill. It was so cute!

He's sticking his tongue out!

Then it was time for FoTLK. I love this show. The Lion King isn’t my favorite Disney movie but it has my favorite soundtrack. Circle of Life is my alarm ringtone. Nothing wakes you up better than Nants ingonyama bagithi baba. (I looked up the lyrics for that)

After FoTLK we did another new to us thing: the Finding Nemo musical. This was so cute! I had “in the big blue world” stuck in my head all day. Finding Nemo is one of my favorite movies too. What made the show even funnier was that we heard snoring behind us and we thought it was an adult but when we looked back it was a little kid no more than 2 years old snoring like a grown man.

I’ll finish the rest of our AK day and our dinner in the next update!

You could totally get something other than tea as long as you don't mind the price tag!

What a beautiful experience! :)
It really is. It's a nice little break amidst all the chaos!

I totally understand about not knowing what to say, because I feel the same way! I love getting pictures, but then I'm always going "Uh..."

SO CUTE! I always take tons of pictures of the meerkats.

Baby gorillas are the best! Just like little kids :-)

Monday February 27
Part 2
After the Finding Nemo show we headed towards Asia for our Everest FP. No pictures, but it was a great ride as usual and we escaped the Yeti. We had to hit up one of our favorite treats next since it was so close. I had a frozen lemonade and my sister had a frozen coke. I forgot to take a picture until I had almost finished it.

Feast your eyes:

I really hate the straws at AK. I know they’re safe for the animals, but they gross me out when they get wet.

We sat in a shaded area while we finished our drink, and then went to cash in our Safari FP. We had a really good safari because we got to see this little guy…

BABY ELEPHANT!

You can kind of see a baby giraffe feeding.

I don't think I've ever seen one of the hippos out of the water. I love hippos!

Our guide wasn’t overly enthusiastic though. At one point we were stuck behind other trucks and you could hear the guide in the truck in front of us giving fun factoids and telling jokes. Our guide just kind of sat there. Oh well they can’t all be perfect.

After our safari we decided to head out of AK because we were getting hungry. We hadn’t eaten lunch because we had such a big breakfast and we had plans to Tambu Lounge for dinner. I really regret not going over to Rafiki’s Planet Watch. In all of our trips I don’t ever remember going there. We still had a successful AK day though and tried a lot of new things: Tusker House, Finding Nemo show, Gorilla Falls trail.

We took a bus over to the Poly where I would finally get to try two fan favorites.

First: Lapu Lapu!

I’m not a huge fan of rum, so this isn’t something I’d regularly drink but it was a fun indulgence.

To eat we got some pulled pork sliders

The pork had really good flavor from the Kona coffee bbq, but the slaw didn’t really add much.

Beef Satay

These were not that great. They had literally no flavor and the beef was chewy.

Honey coriander wings

The sauce was really nice since I like a sweeter bbq sauce. I wish they were crispier though and they could have been hotter temperature-wise.

Then the piece de resistance: Ohana bread pudding

It was everything I had hoped it would be. It was thick and had a slight pineapple flavor. The banana caramel sauce took it over the top. Ugh so good I can’t stop thinking about it! I wanted to get another one just for myself but I restrained myself. I know it’s a tough life.

PS: all of these pictures are from the Internet because I was so hungry I forgot to take pictures.

We went back to SSR, filled up our mugs and rented Finding Nemo because we found out that my mom had never seen it before.

Tomorrow is Magic Kingdom day!
