A few satellite radio questions

DH is going to get me either XM or Sirius for my BDay. Right now XM has the advantage because they have Fox news and I can listen to Sean Hannity. The music stations are pretty even--the things I like are on both systems. The advantage to Sirius is they will have every NFL game this fall so I can listen to my Browns no matter what.
Some questions though:
1) is there a way to have equipment that works in car and home, or do I need two receivers? I figure once I get used to it in the car (25 min. commute) I'll want it at home too.
2) does either system add holiday channels during Christmas, like AOL radio does? I listen to only Christmas music from Thanksgiving to Christmas.
3) if I get one in my Trailblazer, can I still listen to my local stations if I want to, such as if there is a local weather emergency or I am addicted to the country trivia at 6:40AM every morning on our country station  ?
Thanks for the help and any input on which system is better.
Robin M.

We have XM, so I can only speak to that.

Yes, you can still listen to your local stations.

There is a receiver, and you can buy separate components to plug it into for either your car or home. You could get seperate receivers for both if you don't want to move the receiver back and forth, but that costs extra. We have the equipment in two vehicles and the seperate "box", and only one receiver that we move around depending where we are.

Don't remember Christmas-specific stations. But they just added new stations recently, so maybe they would add that also.

We have Sirius

We bought the portable Audivox receiver/car kit, as well as the home kit, and Boom Box. This receiver is a small (about 2x3 inch square) that you simply pop out of the car docking station, pop it into the home stereo or Boom box docking system. Most of the other receivers you "install" in your car.

Sirius has more stations than XM as well, but we primarily went for it due to the portability of this particular receiver. We go camping and the boom box is in the RV - DH loves the commercial free music and I love the talk stations (110 stations in all)

There is a special referral promotion going on (may be other specials, check the two websites) but you can get Sirius for 9.99 a month for the first 12 months, plus rebates up to $50.00 (I'll PM you the link to the special offer URL) Normally $14.99 I think, (we got it on a former special offer, buy 12 months get 3 free)

For News stations they have Fox News along with 14 other news and/or weather stations. Under Entertainment they have 'SIRIUS Right" right wing talk, "SIRIUS LEFT" left wing talk (love the Young Turks myself" "SIRIUS CENTRAL" for general talk, and a bunch of other stations (I like Discovery, Court TV and of course Disney)

Oh, the kind of receiver we have, you just tune to a specific FM frequency and turn it on, if you leave it off (or not in the car) the regular radio functions just as normal.

Got XM last Novemebr for DH's anniversary gift. Have 1 receiver we move from car to use in the boom box componenta at home... very easy to use. They did add Christmas Stations and you can still get all local radio stations.

We have had XM in our vehicle for about a year and really enjoy it.

Yes, you can listen to local stations with no problem. You would have for example, AM, FM, and XM.

We get e-mails that let us know when special events or when channels change. At Christmas, certain channels play certain types of holiday music. During the anniversary of D-Day, the 70s channel played the original radio broadcast of the Invasion of Normandy. From our e-mail, we can also listen to XM through our computer.

Oh-one channel has weather for Orlando so you can always know what the weather is like in WDW!!
;)

Dh works for a GM dealer so he got everything set up for us but I believe if you pay for a year or two, you cna get a slight discount.

I am also looking into sattelite radio and all of your inputs have been helpful.
