A co-worker made me cry

So one of my co-workers brings her 3 year old into the office everyday to wait for her father to pick the girl up. The little girl is adorable and talks to everyone in our group except for me and the crazy lady. One day her little girl walked into my cubicle and we talked about the Disney pictures I had on the wall and I even gave her a picture of Crush to take with her.

Today the little girl walks in and as she walks past me I say "Hi ----" The little girl looks at me and says "My mom says not to talk to you because you're mean." I was shocked!! After her child went off with her grandfather, I talked to her about it, and I was told that she would just prefer to keep her daughter away from me. No other explanation. Not a good way to start my Monday. It really hurt my feelings.

Whats up with THAT??? I'm afraid I'd need a better explaination. Maybe you're making her jealous with your Disney things. But geez, get real lady!

Wow, I feel badly for you 626. :grouphug:

Oh my! That's horrible! Even if the mom has a problem with you, unless you're a danger to children or something (which I'm guessing is not the case ;) ), it's just plain rude to tell her child not to speak to you.

Ok, number one, Why is her daughter even at her place of work?! I could see stopping by, but she is there everyday?! It is YOUR workplace too, so maybe mention it to someone higher up about her bringing her to the workplace.
Also, what is her reasoning behind saying that?

Why would she say that to a little kid???

Im sorry.

Wow...have you ever had problems in the past with her?

I'd say to shake it off--but knowing me, I'd be hurt too.

If she has issues with people at work and doesn't want her kids around them -then don't bring her to work!
Maybe she is anti disney

This person and I don't have any real contact besides saying good morning to each other as we pass in the hallway. She's just been promoted to the vp's assistant (not that that should make a difference.) I'm not part of her "crowd", so maybe that's it.

There is still something not right about the boss allowing someone to bring their child into the office everyday.

I agree with you on this. She brings her in before the bosses show up so they don't see it as a problem. They know about it, just don't think it's disruptful.

626,

Some people are just jerks and "sadly" anyone can give birth without a license....

Hopefully her little girl will see differently when she gets old enough to get to know people first....

I wouldn't take it personally......

The first house we bought had neighbors who hated us before we even moved in and we'd never met them..... They told their little girl not to play with our little girl (same ages) in the after school program because her step mom said she didn't like us.

UGGGGGG.....

If they aren't there, how do they know it's not disruptful? Besides that, in my workplace if one person finds something a problem - then it's a problem.

I'm sorry that ruined your day. Perhaps if she wants to "keep her daughter away from you" she shouldn't let the kids wander around the office. What a wierdo.

Shake it off, sounds like Mom has issues.

Hey - WE know who is really the mean one!! What a witch! (with a capital "B"!!)

::yes::
I would want a better answer also. Is there anyone in your office who knows why she dislikes you?
