8 Nites Of Practically Perfect Pop!!! NEW PICTURES, PAGE 13!!!

Shellebelle...we have also stayed at All Star Movies, All Star Music and Dixie Landings (I will always call it Dixie Landings, no matter what they call it now! LOL)...and though we liked the All Stars, we would prefer to book POP. And Dixie Landings was very nice, as well, but for the $ difference, we would choose POP!!

However, the bus stops are *not* covered at the resort. The weather was quite pleasant during our vacation, but if it was exceptionally hot or exceptionally wet!, it could be a problem!

Exwdwcm... good luck with "converting" your hubby!!! It was very special to share a Disney vacation with my DH, knowing he was enjoying it as much as I did!! And, yes, the Precious Moments figurine is "adorable"...it now has a place of honor in my curio cabinet! :goodvibes

I just had to share that I received a "survey" card in the mail about my "recent stay at Disney's POP Century resort", wanting to know how I felt about it, if I'd stay there again, yadda, yadda, yadda. Mark said, "just tell them to read your trip report!!!" :rotfl2: <Do you think Disney ever reads this stuff???!!! :confused3 >

Wow, it's 2.35am and I've just sat at my computer for about 3 hours reading this trip report! I loved it! :surfweb:

We're staying at Pop in September, and I can't wait! It looks like lots of fun!

A few questions...

* Why did you get Happy Birthday balloons as your gift?! Did I miss something? Teehee!

* What time did you leave Pop, to head to the parks in the morning? The photo of the bus lines don't look busy at all, which is a good sign!

* Did you have anything to drink from the pool lounge? If so, what sorts of drinks could you buy? Any "adult beverages"!?

Again, loved your report! Thanks for sharing!

love you report!!!

I definitely think Pop Century is one of the better WDW resorts.... ;)

SPICEYCAT...thx for reading! :) For a "value" resort, I think POP Century is a GREAT value!!! :thumbsup2

AUSSIEANGEL...those balloons actually say *happy anniversary*, not happy birthday! They were sent to our room (with a card signed by Mickey and Minnie!) when I explained at the front desk that our trip was a belated anniversary celebration!

The picture of the bus stop was taken one evening. The mornings were a bit more crowded, but nothing overwhelming. I love that there is only one bus stop and you are off to the parks, and POP is so centrally located, you get to the parks pretty fast! :Pinkbounc

While we didn't get any adult beverage type drinks at the pool lounge, I know you can get them there and also at the indoor Classic Concoction Lounge next to the food court.

Thx for reading my report and have a great trip!!!

Signing in belatedly just to say I really enjoyed your report, Donna. We LOVE the POP too! So much that I really can't imagine staying anywhere else. Don't get me wrong--I can enjoy the finer things in life as well and occasionally I've been fortunate enough to vacation in nice 4 or 5 star resorts. But when I am at Disney I want that fun, magical Disney atmosphere. No Poly or Grand Floridian for me. Give me a giant Big Wheel and the Hippy Dippy Pool anytime! :goodvibes

MOUSEBIT...yep, what you said! :goodvibes We live in Chicago and so can go and see the ritzy hotels (even the Ritz, imagine that!) so when we go to Disney we love, love, love the *fun* places!!! And, POP Century sure ranks waaaayyyy high on the fun scale!!!!

Oh my gosh! I just loved your trip report. I'm a detail person who has been a little worried about our trip to POP next week. I feel so much better after reading your report! I'm very excited about POP! :cheer2: Thank you, thank you, thank you!

Thanks for the report. I'm going in August and have never stayed at Pop before looking forward to it even more after reading your wonderful report!

Thanks, again, for the nice comments on my trip report. I truly envy all of you who have upcoming Disney trips, staying at POP Century! Hope you all have magical vacations! :goodvibes

Donna thanks for sharing your trip and in such a fantastic way. TR's like your's are what make me addicted to THE DIS !!!!

Have A Disney Day :sunny:

Boston...but it's a GOOD addiction, right? Thx for reading! :)

Okay...I'm looking for the trip reports from those that went to POP after us...gotta get my POP fix!!!!! So, where are they???

Hi DonnaW -- I loved your trip reports and was looking forward to a wonderful stay at Pop in late May, in an AP rate room (annual pass) -- we were put toward the back of the 60's building -- your reports made me sad that I had had to shorten our stay there. But, after being there for three days, I was glad to be moving to another place -- our following offsite stay at Clarion Maingate was much better for us.

I loved the icons and decor at Pop -- and the tie-dye cheesecake was yummy, but the room was marginal and the long hike from parking was a killer. The Clarion is a "value" hotel off property (quite a bit cheaper, even with including a frdige and microwave) with larger rooms, better beds, and a short walk from parking to the room, and a short walk to a good buffet breakfast.

Our problems with the Pop -- didn't care much for the food court (noisy, spendy for the (medium to low) food quality, long walk from our room, had to walk around a lot to figure out what to get and then wait in line). Pool busy and noisy -- altho really cute and large. We were close to an ice machine which was good.

One morning we had a delightful visit from some duck families, with ducklings of different ages, but another morning we were rudely awakened at 7 a.m. by a family that literally sat down outside our door and let their shrieking toddler run around and around. And the room noise from other guest rooms and from their plumbing at all hours was unpleasant (maybe I'm too "light" a sleeper).

And the beds! -- So glad I brought a twin-size memory foam mattress pad along as my carry-on -- the bed was awful (overheard some other families talking about their having the worst beds ever in a hotel, so it wasn't just me). And they were "short-sheeted" -- the smallest possible sheets to just cover the mattress and not tuck in at the bottom.

The room was small (some have said like a Motel 6, and that's pretty close)-- we did have just enough room for the twin size blowup mattress for my grandson. The housekeeping service was fine (and I did appreciate the way they worked around our trying to make the room "livable" -- with our own dorm fridge and the extra mattress).

The worst part was the long hike from parking back and forth to the room -- even leaving in the morning, in the heat, it was awful, and it was really horrible getting back to the room with a tired kid and my old grandma body in the evening -- especially from the Magic Kingdom. Even if we had taken the bus, we still would have had the same long hike back. We didn't try taking the bus, because the line was forming by the curb in the sun (not under the "shade" structure), and it was the same long walk (the only walk it saves it getting to your car at the Parks, which is awful from MK).

DonnaW -- you and your hubby are obviously younger and in better shape than I am! And I hope you continue to enjoy your visits to WDW and Pop Century -- but my next WDW visits are unlikely to include the Pop -- as much I enjoyed the decor (I wish they had spent the money on more convenient parking; larger, quieter rooms; and better bedding, instead of all the outside decor that does nothing for "creature comforts."

Offsite, we had better access to better, less expensive food; a much shorter walk to and from our room; better beds; okay swimming pool; a larger room. We have annual passes, which include park parking, so that wasn't an issue. The main drawback was a little increased driving time -- but I much preferred having a little longer driving time and a much shorter walking time.

Maybe there's a little "Disney Magic" missing offsite -- but the Pop had more discomfort for us than it had Magic. Darn. It might be fine, tho, for those who are doing the "Magic Your Way" and bus transport package (instead of having the flexibility of an AP, or multi-day do-it-yourself pass and a car). The only other time we've stayed onsite was another value (All Stars Music) and it was really unsatisfactory (we were there like 12 days and they never changed our sheets) -- I don't know that I'd even want to try a Moderate or Deluxe. (Actually, now I'm kind of going the offsite timeshare route -- so I guess I'm committed to offsite -- with really nice accommodations -- and either driving or renting a car).

But, DonnaW -- I can see why you enjoyed it there -- it just didn't work for us. And I put off replying, because I knew my reaction to Pop is kind of a downer. I do think it's a good choice for folks who want the onsite lodging WDW experience -- as long as they know the limitations and expense they're facing.

We love WDW --going back in November (staying offsite).

"Happiness is best shared together"

Donna,

I feel like we're kindred spirits in many ways. First, I have this same Precious Moments figurine and I collect them too (have for over 25 years). I'm so glad they decided to finally combine my 2 passions ~ WDW & PM!!! I was lucky enough to be at Disney last Labor Day weekend when they had the Precious Moments convention at the Contemporary Resort to kick off their Disney line and it happened to be my birthday that day (we were eating at Chef Mickey's - like you, I'm a kid at heart too :goodvibes ).

I got to meet the artist who designed this piece and (gasp) he wrote "Happy Birthday Jodi" and signed the bottom of it for me pixiedust: It was one of the greatest "pixie dust" moments of my life!!

Also like you, we were at Pop Century May 4-7th!!! We were in the 50's building. We too were traveling without our kids (first time since our honeymoon 17 years ago). We were at Epoct for EMH too on Friday, May 5th. It was SO crowded and I do remember that warm spell that came through that weekend :sunny:

We also did the Keys to the Kingdom tour that trip (on Sat. May 6). It was FANTASTIC!!!!!! I would highly recommend it for a trip without kids.

So, I just wanted to say HI  and tell you how much I've enjoyed reading your wonderful trip report about your *perfect* Pop Century trip. It helped me relive our wonderful time there too ;)

Oh, by the way, we're sort of "neighbors" as I'm from WI. Unlike you though, I would never dream of driving. You are brave for tackling that trip! I love to fly ... it gets me to Disney faster party:

Thanks so much for writing!! :thumbsup2

:thanks:

I'm glad to hear that you enjoyed your off site stay, but sorry you didn't like POP. I know everyone's taste is different, so it's a great thing that the world (Disney World and the REAL world! ) is full of such a wide variety of choices!

<And the beds! -- So glad I brought a twin-size memory foam mattress pad along as my carry-on -- the bed was awful (overheard some other families talking about their having the worst beds ever in a hotel, so it wasn't just me). Honestly, we didn't experience this at POP at all...but I know I have read other reports where people think the beds are hard. I can't stand when the sheets come up off of a bed (in fact, I have my sheets pinned down with a safety pin at home, so I would have noticed this big-time!), and I'm sorry you had that experience. And, yes, I did think the walls are a tad thin, that's why I was beyond glad I had the white noise machine with us to block outside sounds, especially for sleeping. :)

<The room was small (some have said like a Motel 6, and that's pretty close)-- we did have just enough room for the twin size blowup mattress for my grandson. The housekeeping service was fine (and I did appreciate the way they worked around our trying to make the room "livable" -- with our own dorm fridge and the extra mattress).>

As you know, it was just me and Mark on this particular trip, and we didn't feel the room was small. I don't know how it would have been if we would have had to put in an extra mattress, though...I'm not exactly sure where you would put that?? :confused3 (We have stayed in the past at All Star Movies and All Star Music with our sons when they were teens, and felt the room was big enough for the four of us, certainly not spacious, but not tiny, either).

<The worst part was the long hike from parking back and forth to the room -- even leaving in the morning, in the heat, it was awful, and it was really horrible getting back to the room with a tired kid and my old grandma body in the evening -- especially from the Magic Kingdom. Even if we had taken the bus, we still would have had the same long hike back. Maybe it wasn't quite as hot during the time we were down in Florida, because I don't recall the walk as being really awful. In fact, I think the buildings at POP are a bit closer together than at the All Star resorts, which I honestly think makes the walk at bit easier. But, we never tried driving to the Magic Kingdom...I think the bus option to get to that park is so much more convenient, since you get let off pretty close and don't have to deal with the ferry or monorail.

<DonnaW -- you and your hubby are obviously younger and in better shape than I am! And I hope you continue to enjoy your visits to WDW and Pop Century -- but my next WDW visits are unlikely to include the Pop -- as much I enjoyed the decor (I wish they had spent the money on more convenient parking; larger, quieter rooms; and better bedding, instead of all the outside decor that does nothing for "creature comforts.">

Not sure how much younger or in better shape we are! LOL! But, yep, we LOVED POP Century!!! But, again, everyone has different thoughts...I do appreciate your comments, though. Thanks so much for sharing!!!! :)
