We're already on our school's "list" somewhere. We once told a teacher that if she couldn't get our kid's attention, she had our permission to wing a chalk board eraser at his head!
Her answer? "I'm a bad aim. My luck, I'd hit someone else's kid!" :rotfl:

:lmao: :rotfl: :lmao: :rotfl: :lmao: :rotfl: :lmao: :rotfl:

I was out early and found lots of bargains.:cheer2: We just did a pit stop for awhile and now out again. Talk later. I am so glad Dh does not read this board yet.:faint:

I know exactly what you mean. Anytime DH tries to tell me he "told me something" it's always something I know darn well I would not forget if he'd really told me.
Well, I have to laugh because this happens to me all the time but what I get is Mark's mom asking me if I have seen the baby, or starts telling me about so and so's surgery or what ever and I have no clue what she is talking about. What happens is Mark talks to his parents every Saturday and sometimes they tell him big news and by the time they are done with their conversation, he has forgotten about it and then doesn't tell me. So I have to just act like I know all about it when his Mom starts talking to me like I know what's going on. To be fair there are times he has told me things and they go in one ear and out the other though.
But I usually remember if someone is pregnant or having surgery.

I received some bad news when I woke up this morning and have been trying to deal with that. DH's GM died Wednesday night. I haven't been able to reach him yet but the service wont be for a couple weeks. She will be buried with her DH in Arlington National Cemetary so we have to wait for an opening. Gram was a very sweet lady who I didn't meet until her DH died, but she and the rest of the family treated me wonderfully. We had just sent out our engagement announcements the week before his accident. She has been in a rest home for quite a while since suffering with alzheimer's. She died peacefully in her sleep, so that is comforting.

I just wanted you to know if I am not around much today.
Oh Lisa, I'm so sorry for your loss. I'm sure she will be missed. We will be praying for your family.

:offtopic: Read this article this morning and it sort of goes with the discussion from yesterday. List of most and least affordable cities for home prices. It is based on home prices as compared to average income.

Most Affordable
Indianapolis IN $113,000 price $65,100 avg. income
Youngstown OH $83,000 price $52,100 avg. income
Detroit MI $92,000 price $56,700 avg. income
Toledo OH $105,000 price $58,900 avg. income
Buffalo NY $89,000 price $58,300 avg. income
Least
Los Angeles CA $525,000 price $56,200 avg. income
Santa Ana CA $620,000 price $78,300 avg. income
San Diego CA $475,000 price $64,900 avg. income
New York NY $500,000 price $59,200 avg. income
Modesto CA $360,000 price $54,400 avg. income

It is an interesting list, but who the heck wants to live in Toledo OH or Detroit MI?
I think I 'm offended.;) I don't live in Detroit but not to far from there. North about 45 miles. I actually wouldn't want to leave IN Detroit but the surrounding areas are pretty nice. Though Mark would agree that any place is better than MI. To bad his job is here.

Okay, y'all be good today. I simply MUST take a nap. No sleep last night, won't get sleep tonight (little one's first sleepover with GS troop) and then saturday is one busy day for me! I have to get some sleep so I can stay awake during the performance sat night!!! I've paid too much to be snoring during it. :lmao:

(yesterday I got my hair highlighted and for the first time ever -slept thru every part of it! She was foiling, I fell asleep. woke me up to put me under the heat, fell asleep under there. Laid with my head in the sink to rinse- fell asleep. Blowdrying my hair, fell asleep. that's just not right. LOL)
But do you like your hair. Love highlights.

No, I really don't care about their welfare. The problem is, I do have to care because they will be the ones who choose my rest home.
This is too funny because our DD tells her dad that she will be putting him in a nursing home in Alaska. That is because she knows how much he hates the cold. But after seeing the pictures posted of Alaska, maybe it won't be so bad.

I think we all have to sit back and reflect for a moment. Why do you think the government is intruding so much? They are starting to cover all the bases when it has to do with our kids. From puberty (and Family Life), to morals, to manners, to vaccines, onto going to the doctor or dentist... We ask for it more or less. We want them to do something about teen pregnancies, STDs, criminals, drugs, etc. What do we expect them to do? Their only option is to put it in the schools. This is where they can reach the masses.

Now I for one do not agree with most of it. I think the government is a bit too much into our business and how we deal with our everyday lives in terms of protecting ourselves and our families. But we keep turning to them for solutions...

We have turned into a "It's not MY fault" society and the government is trying to protect their butts much the same way as companies do with all of their (mostly) useless warning lables. In a perfect world, parents would take care of their own business. It is just really hard for the ones that DO take care of their families to deal with being put in with the masses that don't.

I just have to butt in here. I don't have any strong feeling either way but that is because this is really the first time I am hearing about most of this. I knew that the vaccine existed but I didn't know it was being pushed on some areas. I have taken my DD15 to the doctors so many times in the last year that she meets the deductible with in the first month of the year and this has never, ever been brought up to us. I will have to ask her doctor when we go back in. I do know that having a child in this range and talking to friends of mine with kids in the same age group that as well as we raise our children, there are those that will doing things that their parents have no clue about. We have raise our kids in a Christian home and have talk to them about abstinence and all that goes along with living a live pleasing to God. My kids know where we stand but I hear from them all the time about things that I had no knowledge of at their age. They just grow up so fast. Not to say that our kids do these things but they know kids their age that do. And they happen on school buses, in bathrooms during school hours, at sporting events. If their is a willing child then they will find a way. Not right and certainly, they think they are invincible at this age but they will soon find out that that is not the case. I will have to find out much more about this before I can make a decision. I have enjoyed the discussion on this because, as I said I am in the dark on this vaccine for the most part. Hmmm, I guess, I had more to say than I thought.

Just saw this while surfing and thought I would share.

Remember back...oh about a million posts ago, we were talking about Lego's and the First Lego League that I coached for several years?
Well then not so many post ago, Crash was posting picture of Star Trek.
Well, part of the Lego competition is a research project that the kids have to do and present in a creative way to the judges. Our team too first place in the State of Mi. for 3 years running. The last year we competed the project topic was the ocean and how things effect the ocean life. My thought was to do how cruise ships effect the ocean. But not my team, that would be to easy, they decided to do sonar. They talked to ocean experts all over the world via phone conferences. Attached is a link that shows our presentation. The quality isn't great but for those who are Trekkies they might find it amusing. My son is not shown in the first part because he was the sound effects man but in the second part he is the one in the blue. If you have an interest, watch to the end and there are some outtakes and there is one of Bobby there too. I watched it this morning for the first time in a year and I was amazed at the change in my son from that day to day. His voice is so different.

You mean there are still homes out there for less than $150,000??

Oh, definitely. I sold my mom's three-bedroom home (1200 sq. ft + basement and 2-car garage, built by my grandfather by hand in 1956) for $49K two years ago and that was fair market value for homes in the area. It's in the middle-of-nowhere Monongahela, PA right next to a spanking new toll road. VERY depressed part of the country now.

Let's see....its Friday which means......I need to pack and head to the airport in a couple of hours to run away to Disneland for 5 days :cool1:

The question is... how many thousands of posts will I have to catch up on when I get back on Wednesday evening? Maybe I'll just have to take a 'puter with me LOL

Everyone have a great weekend.

Andy

Have a great time! And say "hi" to Piglet for DSIL who is stuck on the East Coast :)

Ruby survived her track meet tonight and not only that, she was the only one from our school that won her 300 hurdles heat! (apparently they had 4 races in 300 hurdles, one girl from our school vs 5 other girls from 5 other schools in each race. The one Ruby did, she won! It's so awesome, her first track meet and she gets 1st place... and here I was just hoping she wouldn't injure herself. LOL

No offense meant. SWMBO has an anti-Detroit bias from working there a few years back. (Her company was based in Southfield and she was doing consulting for some major hospital downtown (Detroit Medical, I believe)). She didn't care much for downtown.

Actually AK is a great place to be old! I love old people here. They are rugged. They don't feel like they are entitled to anything simply because they are old. There are state-supported Pioneer Homes. And yes, real live pioneers (only been a state for 50 years). DH & I laugh about the difference between old people in AK and our experience when we lived in FL.

Most larger communities have non-profit senior centers and senior housing. My office is in a wing of a senior center. They have a big campus with everything from independent living apartments through full-service nursing home care, and a big social gathering area where many eat lunch everyday for a donation (or free if they can't afford it). One of the highlights of my day is a group of 5 'grumpy old men' as I call them that play cribbage about 7 hours a day that I chat with on my way to the coffee pot.

Alaska is a great place to be old! And young!
Please don't make me go! :sad1:

I don't know how many of you guys are into the whole pin trading thing...I, myself am a bit of an addict (according to DH). In any case, I thought I'd post the DCL pin cruise info for this November.

You mean there are still homes out there for less than $150,000??

We bought our first house 8 years ago. It was a nice starter house - 4bd/2ba/2 car garage/1700 sq.ft., new construction, formal dining, big kitchen, on a pond, in a neightborhood with a pool (this was FL).
The price??
$108,000!

However, it seems like every time we move, we need to spend twice as much on our next house as we did our last. Since we move every three years, it is getting crazy. So glad I went back to work!

And in the "things that make you go hmmm" department:

Texas Gov. Rick Perry says that it's just a coincidence that he and eight other lawmakers received donations of $5,000 each from Merck lobbyists just a few days before mandating the drug giant's HPV cervical cancer vaccine for all females in Texas ages 12 and up.

The main lobbyist for Merck previously worked as Chief of Staff for Gov. Perry. Several other states are considering making the vaccine mandatory, thanks in part to Merck's aaggressive lobbying.
