I thought the Hep. shots were part of the infant shots. And I think later that Adam DS got a boster around middle school. He did get the Meningitis vacine last year that was new.

Only the Hep B is noted on my kid's shot records. We still need to get the Hep A. I thnk that they have added the Hep A to the standard vacines in the last year or so.

There are many states pushing legislation to make it mandatory for girls as young as 5th grade to get the new vacine for cervical cancer in order to attend school. The pharmacutical company was pushing it too but has backe off. The problem is this is for a virus that is a STD and it is relatively new. I also heard on the View that it is very expensive & most insurance companies are not covering it. I think that it was $200 for three shots that are needed to be completely protected.

Fifth grade seems very young. Just like anything new, who wants to be the experiment.:scared: I did read there have been minor reactions to the shot.

I don't like that they are just picking that age. I would hope that they wouldn't have to worry about 5th graders catching a STD. :sad2: Maybe focus their energies on keeping that from being a posibility.

It may be different in the States but here it is not mandatory. They just started offering them to school students three years ago (for Hep B only).

They do our Hep B in their first year shots. I really can't remember Hep A.

Our moderator speaks with great wisdom. That is so true!!!!

You must have some patience - there are times when I just get so frustrated looking for the bargains that I just walk away. Other times I have found them without even looking. A few years ago I needed a dress for a special work event and I had gone all over looking for something and couldn't find anything I liked. On the off chance we went into Sears and they had a dress that fit (I was about 40 lbs heavier than I am now) and looked good - only problem was it was more than I wanted to spend, but I was desparate as it was the day before. Anyway, I cave and go to checkout and the $110 dress rang up at $5.40!

That is the BEST feeling!!:thumbsup2

I turned off Oprah. BORING! :sad2:
The Russell Crowe and Nicole Kidman was just painful to watch. I did enjoy Julia and George. They seemed natural and truly comfortable. RC and NK are supposed to be long time friends and that was just the most awkward interview. Both cold fishes.

I'm not advocating for the vaccine but I copied this from the CDC:

The HPV vaccine is recommended for 11-12 year-old girls, and can be given to girls as young as 9. The vaccine is also recommended for 13-26 year-old girls/women who have not yet received or completed the vaccine series.

These recommendations have been proposed by the ACIP—a national group of experts that advises the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) on vaccine issues. These recommendations are now being considered by CDC.

Why is the HPV vaccine recommended for such young girls?
Ideally, females should get the vaccine before they are sexually active. This is because the vaccine is most effective in girls/women who have not yet acquired any of the four HPV types covered by the vaccine. Girls/women who have not been infected with any of those four HPV types will get the full benefits of the vaccine.

Will sexually active females benefit from the vaccine?
Females who are sexually active may also benefit from the vaccine. But they may get less benefit from the vaccine since they may have already acquired one or more HPV type(s) covered by the vaccine. Few young women are infected with all four of these HPV types. So they would still get protection from those types they have not acquired. Currently, there is no test available to tell if a girl/woman has had any or all of these four HPV types.

Why is the HPV vaccine only recommended for girls/women ages 9 to 26?
The vaccine has been widely tested in 9-to-26 year-old girls/women. But research on the vaccine’s safety and efficacy has only recently begun with women older than 26 years of age. The FDA will consider licensing the vaccine for these women when there is research to show that it is safe and effective for them.

I really haven't paid much attention to this. But i did get DS the Meningitis vacine and it was new and expensive. I think around 160 and I don't think my ins. covered it. We all want our children to be and stay healthy, but it still is a difficult decision.

I'm confused .. Oprah up here today was supposed to be a Health Guru guy helping the audience to get in shape. I didn't watch it based on the TV Guide, but I probably should have :rotfl: . Did todays show have celebrities on it??? Was my TV Guide wrong??

Great news regarding the new ships. We have friends in Bremen and Hamburg that have been bugging us to visit, and Papenburg, Germany isn't far from them, might make plans to visit in late 2010 or early 2011 and see if we can sneak a peek. :magnify:

I forgot to share my Tarjay finds yesterday!!! I was so excited about them too!!! I went in to get that new Listerine rinse for the kids that leaves color where they didn't brush well enough. As long as I was there...I looked to see if there was anything left from the 90% markdown on Vday stuff Monday. They just put the 90% up that morning!!!! There was still a lot left. :)
I didn't go today...no need. ;)

I want the heads up for the 75% after Easter Sale at Target.:rotfl: By the time I got to Target on Monday, there was nothing left.:sad2: There was not need for anything to go to 90%. I have Two Targets but they got hit hard on Sunday. I did not see your post til late evening on Sunday.

Ok, who wants to sign up for an excursion in Cartagena with Mary's 6'7" Black belt DH.

Looks like your DH and I (a mear 6'4") will be bouncers on Deck 7 parties.

Sign me up . .. I once had an engineer that travelled with me to clients who was about 6'5" and then added:
  • cowboy hat (10 gallon style)
  • cowboy boots (you know those aren't flats)
  • and the full rattlesnake skin (including fangs) wrapped around his hat.
I felt safe going ANYWHERE in LA even if we were from the backwoods of SW Virginia . . .LOL

I do so appreciate a tall guy with a blackbelt .. .LOL:rotfl:

About as unloving as advocating striking a child in the face*. Really, I was just joking -- I would never hit my child in the face, head, arm or any place except their cushioned bottoms -- and only then with my bare hand. And you know when they say "this will hurt me more than it does you?" It really does, literally and figuratively.

* Excuse me, I think I hear Child and Family Services at the door...again.

As long as you are not in CA.:rolleyes1

That would be awesome:thumbsup2

There is a Oprah Oscar special on in Primetime.

That was a really good grays. I sort of knew they were going for the life/death story line halfway in. But it was a teary one as well. Nite all

Alan DH is having knee surgery tomorrow. I found out yesterday--he swears he told me a couple of weeks ago. I am sure that everything will be fine--but I really don't think he told me............maybe he did while I was trying desperately to catch up on this thread. It really made me feel bad.
