HAPPY BIRTHDAY MADISON

cake-idea-09.jpg

A great big thank you for all of my birthday wishes! It was a big one today, so I really appreciate all the lovely cakes!

Prayers to those who are in need!

Ok, let me see if this works

OMG! Amazing work. Sooooo, when do you expect to be finished? I can send my measurements so you can start on mine.
:)

Hello Everyone! I try to read to catch up every now and then, but life has been a little crazy! My DD12 had a friend pass away in August and that was hard for all of us. She was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer in Oct. 06, and from late spring to early summer, she seemed to be doing better. In mid July she started having some problems again, and passed away in August. We took a fall trip to WDW and MNSSHP, and came home to our 13 year old cat who almost died while we were gone. Fortunately after a lot of money later, she improved and is doing remarkably well. We went out of town for a short Christmas break, and came home to a collapsed closet in our master bedroom. Now, we didn't have our home flooded or anything after our record rainfall in early December, but still a mess, and we decided to replace the closet with some nice drawers/shelves/rods, etc., put in new flooring, etc. Needless to say, between the cat and the closet we could have paid for another cruise! Then last night, I got a call from my DS9's teacher and she said that a classmate of his had his sister die from an asthma problem last week. It is so hard to explain to kids why people die. This raised questions from him of if we are just going to die, why are we here? I told him that we are here to help people and do nice things for others and when we go to heaven we can do nice things for people there as well. Does anyone else have any ideas of how to explain this to their kids? It just isn't right when a child dies.
Sorry to ramble, and I realize that I don't really know any of you, but I did catch up on some posts and feel I know you that way. I just saw the pirate zone website and that looks awesome. Thanks for doing that. We are very excited for this trip and are looking forward to planning more. I hope all of you have a wonderful day and enjoy your kids each and every day! I'll check in more often now. Sorry for rambling and thanks for listening!

:grouphug: Welcome back. Here's to a better 2008.

Andy, that's terrible news. Baby Charles, Mom and Dad and Walt will be in our prayers.

SIDS or sudden infant death syndrome is horrible and it's prevalence is increasing. Whats worse is that reasearch is lagging.

Answering Disfreaks question:

That's the worst part of my job is telling someone that their family member has died. It's a weekly thing for me and after 17 years of doing it day in and day out it has not gotten easier. It's actually become harder for me each passing year. I have no answer for it. Everyone has to develope their own mechanism with dealing with death. It's a very hard topic especially with children as they have no concrete thinking patterns yet.

I don't know how you do it, Peter, but I'm sure glad someone does!

I don't ship a lot of wine. But I'd think so. It's not something they're going to keep out in front - you'd need to ask for one.

Oh, our Class 6 is great for anything BUT CA wine.

You need to negotiate for more vacation. I did that with this job - started off with 4 weeks, cause that's where I left off with at the previous place. The rationale goes something like - I've got x years of experience that I'm bringing to you. With that many years you usually give y weeks of vacation. I'd like y weeks of vacation - the amount apropriate with my experience level. It's easy to get more vacation (doesn't cost anything) - it's the extra $5K they'll bicker over.

I still think I'm going to order the shipping box and just check it on the plane to CA empty - that way I know I have one.

I tried to negotiate vacation. For some reason that is pretty much the only inflexible thing at my organization. We have 'core hours' from 10-3 when everyone should be there, so if we want to work 7-3 or 10-6 (or anything in between) we can. We have flex time available - 9 hours days = a long weekend every other week. We get 2 personal days & 2 random pick-you-own holidays a calendar year and all federal holidays off, BUT managers and below start with 2 weeks vacation. Executive staff (including the President)start with 3 weeks. No negotiating. So, I get 3 weeks vacation + 2 random days, 10 days sick leave & 2 personal days. It's not bad, but even if I don't use any between now and TOAL - I'll only have 15 days accumulated. I'm using 11 for TOAL.

I'll get to Napa someday.

Debi, No they are not required. 6732 pages back we hashed through this. You probably should get them if you are adventuring out on your own and partaking in some rural areas and cuisines. The risk is very low for us if you stick to the touristy things and watch what you eat and drink. I brought it up because in my own opinion everyone should probably be vaccinated against these. Kids are now required (in California) to have both of these prior to school. None of us should not have any chance of exposure to B unless you partake in questionable activities. Hepatitis A can be pasted on by contact usually by food. This is one of those "Ounce of prevention" things.

Define questionable.

Hazel just got off the phone with my brother Pete. Pete said Charles seems to be doing OK and he was sent home from the hospital, but Pete and Marina will be keeping a very close eye on him.

Great news Andy!
How ironic is it that we've been sharing NICU stories for the last few days?

I would be afraid of distracting the driver behind me!

Do you think we can put a hold on a few washer/dryers at the hojo designated for Dis use only???

Yeah, that would go over well.

Disney building rides geared towards the little ones? The nerve!!!

I know. And at EPCOT of all places. What were they thinking? :upsidedow

Well, I'm off to go plan the two big trips before to TOAL. Our Mom & Dad only get away over Mother's Day to WDW. And the 5-week camping trip immediately before the cruise. I don't suppose you want to help me figure out which National Parks to camp at and how long to stay? Nah. Wrong forum.

Well, I'll just wander over to the Pop-up Camper forum...

Say, before I go - you can help with the Get away. What's the stuff you never do when you're dragging the kids along. So far the list includes:
- American Adventure
- Hall of Presidents
- Liberty Boat
- Tiki Room
- All of the countries of EPCOT, in detail
- All of Innoventions
- Cinderella's Royal Table (dinner, not breakfast)
- California Grill

What else?? Think late nights and late mornings. :rotfl:

Well, I'm off to go talk gray water drainage hose, amp hours, campgrounds, Yellowstone crowds, and BEARS - oh my... :scared1: pooh:

Whenever DH & I have someone to watch the kids at WDW, we kill an evening lounging in the Adventurer's Club on Pleasure Island. It is great fun.
The humor can sometimes be a bit risque, but not vulgar at all & the characters are just great. Oh, & I would go on Buzz Lightyear when I can actually control the car! Resort hopping can be fun too.

Since you asked about camping... we loved Yellowstone. If you go that far, keep going north. Glacier National Park is amazing!

I've always wanted to go to the Adventurer's Club - DH isn't quite so "adventerous":rotfl2:.

Buzz while you're in control in a must do too!

Disfreaks - I hope 2008 is a much better year for you

Good question - I didn't even realize that shots should be considered for this cruise. I have been to all the places except Cartagena and Acapulco

Anyone have further information? I tried to look at the CDC website but it just confused me more

My Dept of Health told me Typhoid was also recommended. The 2 shots will be 100 pp. And no, insurance isn't covered for these.

Pete, You do some great work.:thumbsup2

Andy, glad Charles is home. Hope they don't have any more scares.

what happened to ohio state i thought for sure they will win.lsu is looking good

Certainly not over, but OSU hasn't helped themselves with a couple turnovers that LSU capitalized on and that roughing the kicker penalty was brutal, it was 4th and 23 yards, then gave LSU a first down. After that, OSU picked up another unsportsmanlike penalty, so loss their cool and LSU made them pay. OSU might be able to make those mistakes against Kent, Akron and Youngstown St., but need to be better against LSU.

:wave2: Lorri. Hope the New Year is off to a good start for you and your family.

Oh, the Adventurer's Club - you're not the first I've heard great things about it from. We never go to Pleasure Island. Definitely, at least one night there...

We did Buzz ALOT this last summer, and I got my share of having control. So, I don't need to scratch that particular itch.

Oh, Glacier is definitely on the list. In fact, we'll probably spend more time hiking at Glacier than in the crowds at Yellowstone. Glacier is surrounded by a lot of National Forest - where we can hike with Taiko. Did I mention we're taking the dog? Me, DS11, DS7, and a dog - in a pop up camper for 5-weeks!! Our Cat 4 on the Magic is going to seem like a palace! :rotfl2:

Right now it's looking something like: Yellowstone, Glacier, The Woods (the family property in the WA Cascades), Mt Rainier (maybe St Helens?), the Olympic Penincula, and the OR coast on the way home. I'm on maps right now to see how doable that all is. It's looking like it might be possible...

Madison wants to thank all of you for the wonderful birthday greetings. Cherie and I are now in possession of an official ST. :rotfl2: Pass the xanax.

How funny - I was looking at the Electric Light Pagent just today. We're staying at SSR though (no car) so I'm not certain how practical it will be.

You know- the Tiki Room is always on the list and somehow, it winds up getting slid off - probably all the extra bathroom breaks. After all, no way, no how can they need to go at the SAME time. Even when you send them at the same time.

This is fun. I'm discovering a whole side of WDW I didn't know.

WDW After Dark... popcorn::
