That's the worst part of my job is telling someone that their family member has died. It's a weekly thing for me and after 17 years of doing it day in and day out it has not gotten easier. It's actually become harder for me each passing year. I have no answer for it. Everyone has to develop their own mechanism with dealing with death. It's a very hard topic especially with children as they have no concrete thinking patterns yet.

Pete I really feel for you. I have probably been present at 1000 or so deaths over the years and none of them are easy. But the patient passing on is not usually the hardest thing to deal with. Everyone usually has family that they are leaving behind and they are the ones I feel for especially in the case of kids. You are right in that we all have our own mechanism for dealing with losses that sometime work but they all stick with you. Advice to everyone go home tonight and hug your kids.

Debi, No they are not required. 6732 pages back we hashed through this. You probably should get them if you are adventuring out on your own and partaking in some rural areas and cuisines. The risk is very low for us if you stick to the touristy things and watch what you eat and drink. I brought it up because in my own opinion everyone should probably be vaccinated against these. Kids are now required (in California) to have both of these prior to school. None of us should not have any chance of exposure to B unless you partake in questionable activities. Hepatitis A can be pasted on by contact usually by food. This is one of those "Ounce of prevention" things.

Thank you for the advice Roger. That makes me feel much better.

Hello Everyone! I try to read to catch up every now and then, but life has been a little crazy! My DD12 had a friend pass away in August and that was hard for all of us. She was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer in Oct. 06, and from late spring to early summer, she seemed to be doing better. In mid July she started having some problems again, and passed away in August. We took a fall trip to WDW and MNSSHP, and came home to our 13 year old cat who almost died while we were gone. Fortunately after a lot of money later, she improved and is doing remarkably well. We went out of town for a short Christmas break, and came home to a collapsed closet in our master bedroom. Now, we didn't have our home flooded or anything after our record rainfall in early December, but still a mess, and we decided to replace the closet with some nice drawers/shelves/rods, etc., put in new flooring, etc. Needless to say, between the cat and the closet we could have paid for another cruise! Then last night, I got a call from my DS9's teacher and she said that a classmate of his had his sister die from an asthma problem last week. It is so hard to explain to kids why people die. This raised questions from him of if we are just going to die, why are we here? I told him that we are here to help people and do nice things for others and when we go to heaven we can do nice things for people there as well. Does anyone else have any ideas of how to explain this to their kids? It just isn't right when a child dies.
Sorry to ramble, and I realize that I don't really know any of you, but I did catch up on some posts and feel I know you that way. I just saw the pirate zone website and that looks awesome. Thanks for doing that. We are very excited for this trip and are looking forward to planning more. I hope all of you have a wonderful day and enjoy your kids each and every day! I'll check in more often now. Sorry for rambling and thanks for listening!

What a terrible year. I hope 2008 is better for you and for all of us.

What I've told my child is that God takes people to heaven when they can no longer live a healthy life here. Sometimes they get to grow old before they have to go to heaven, but sometimes there's too much for the person to handle and He must take them when they are young. While we are here on earth, we must do the best that we can.

Thanks, I needed a good laugh right about now!!! :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

No updates news on Charles, but we are sitting by the phone waiting to hear from my brother.

I look at it this way, "No news is good news."

Andy we will keep your family in our thoughts and prayers. :grouphug:

Hazel just got off the phone with my brother Pete. Pete said Charles seems to be doing OK and he was sent home from the hospital, but Pete and Marina will be keeping a very close eye on him.

Hi Everyone. I need to re-introduce myself - I did at the very beginning and since then have only been a lurker not a participator. :confused3 My husband and I will be joining you all on this wonderful trip. Can't wait to get to know you.... from the thousands of posts I've tried unsuccessfully to read - you seem like a mighty lively group.

Hey there neighbor. There are about 4 or 5 of us here in northern CA.

Thanks to all of you. I think Disney lovers just see the world a little differently and truly seem to know what is important in life. I'm glad little Charles got to go home. I will keep him and his mom and dad in my prayers.
I can't wait to get to know all of you a little better. We're off to do homework and go to swim team practice!:grouphug:

Good question - I didn't even realize that shots should be considered for this cruise. I have been to all the places except Cartagena and Acapulco

Anyone have further information? I tried to look at the CDC website but it just confused me more

For Mexico, Hep A and B are recommended.
http://wwwn.cdc.gov/travel/destinationMexico.aspx

Hepatitis A or immune globulin (IG)Recommended for all unvaccinated people traveling to or working in countries with an intermediate or high level of hepatitis A virus infection (see map) where exposure might occur through food or water. Cases of travel-related hepatitis A can also occur in travelers to developing countries with "standard" tourist itineraries, accommodations, and food consumption behaviors.Hepatitis B Recommended for all unvaccinated persons traveling to or working in countries with intermediate to high levels of endemic HBV transmission (see map) and who might be exposed to blood or body fluids, have sexual contact with the local population, or be exposed through medical treatment, such as for an accident, and for all adults requesting protection from HBV infection.

Same thing for Colombia

My HMO actually has a travel clinic. You call a few months before your trip and they'll let you know what you need. But with the Hep vaccines, since they are multiple shots, you should probably start now.

Another option is state run Travel Medicine Clinics.

Joan - sorry, don't know what state your in

Deb - here's the one for Oklahoma

Andy...

I am hoping for the best for your family in these difficult times. I am not fully caught up - and in recent weeks I've only had sufficient time (and energy it seems) to catch up - and occassionally post something.

In this case, it's a special note of supportive thoughts for your family. I have not read the most recent postings - so I won't know if any news has developed yet... but just the same... our prayers shall be for you folks.

Still coughing here, alas Respectfully,

Tom & family

Unfortunately, our insurance doesn't cover any type of Travelers Vaccines.

Esteri,

Just read your update on the pirate zone, the t-shirts look great, thanks for all your hard work. My wife wants a "tote bag" for sure and we'll be taking at least 4 of each color t shirt.

The next 6 months will pass very quickly. The TOAL will be here before you know it.

Sending you some hugs for the past few weeks of rough stuff.

It is tough to explain death to kids. Especially depending on their sensitivity...it isn't easy...I explain it this way.....People are put on this earth to do a "job" (easiest way to explain to a kid since they understand parents going to work) if they complete whatever they are needed to do they get to go to heaven/beyond as their reward. Some people finish early and some don't....

Don't know if this helps.....

Chrissie
