I hope that you are keeping some bail money too, isn't it a felony to send anything with nuts in it into a school these days?

Good bye to the old standby, PB&J :sad2:

Some schools are more strict about it than others:confused3

With the recent release of staterooms, I'm thinking about contacting DU to see if I can get wait listed to early dining. We have always done late. The kids don't usually eat with us.

Posters were suggesting that late dining on the repo would be one time at 8:30 instead of 8:00, 8:15 and 8:30. I really hate the 8:30 dining.

So, what time is early dining? Do you think there will only be one time? And, how does early dining impact your daytime activities?

That be Captains Dining that you are refering too...DCL on the longer repo cruises has not had staggerd times for dinner ...Just 6pm for Captains Dining and 8:30 for Crews Dining for all dining rooms

Lisa, another thing to consider is that you will be traveling West and the 6pm dinning will be 9pm to all of you East Coast pirates.

Lisa - You should definitely call DCL now and you can probably get early dining. The reason I say that....we just booked on Thursday and, get this, we had to be waitlisted for LATE dining. The DCL agent kept double checking because that was very unusual to have late dining fill up first.

We had late dining on our last cruise, after having early dining on all other cruises, and we preferred it. I would ideally prefer it start at 8:00 instead of 8:30 but we liked having more time during the day.

Good luck!

Early / main is 5.30/5.45 /6.00pm didn't cause any problems, and NOTE on the special Med / Europe cruises they suspended this and just had 6.00pm, ( with Rome night 6.30pm) Maybe the same for the repo,

I always prefer Dinner/ show rather than the other way and my kids would just go and eat fast food instead.

Well, I was yelled at by someone at my kindergarten's school last week for walking her into her classroom. "Sir, parents aren't allowed in the building. You have to take her to the office".

It had snowed the night before, so instead of driving her to daycare, where she takes the bus to school, I decided to drop her off directly at school, which I'd never done before. I ASKED one of the people outside the school if I should take her to her classroom and she said yes. So I did and got accosted for my trouble.

I told the old cow I wanted to make sure my daughter got to her class and next time go yell at the woman outside who DIRECTED me to come down here rather than yelling at a parent. (This same bat was yelling at kids coming in: "No hats in school" "No running". )

Sorry JR--makes you just want to sream at them. Nothing like being reprimanded by a teacher. That has only happened to me once when Adam was in kindergarten--and not for walking him to his classroom. I think this was the day after he "stole" 3 marbles from the science room. I was so tired of getting evening phone calls from this woman about how my son was figetedy (he had severe exzema on his arms and legs--I would have been fidgety too), didn't pay attention, that he blew his straw wrapper in the cafe. and it went on and on. That I went in after school, with Adam left in my car and blew up at the old bag. Bad thing was Adam set the alarm off in the car and I just let it run it's course--the office was paging me over the intercom . Never got another phone call from her:rolleyes1

Now needless to say, my son was miserable that year and totally shut down and repeated kindergarten. He had a wonderful teacher that year with whom he blossomed. :goodvibes

Had to get a couple of shots with Harley playing in the white stuff. This is his first experience and all he wanted to do was eat it! It's supposed to keep up until Wed. :scared1:

I really prefer the 8:00 dining too. However, on our last cruise we had the 8:30 dining. It was a marathon. My brother and I were willing to stick forks in our eye just to get up from the table.

Welcome to the Northeast. Perhaps we should have given you the rules:

Flurries = everyone forgets how to drive
1" of snow = All government grinds to halt
6" of snow = All above rules, but all us gas hog SUV drivers can go anywhere (please call a tow truck, my super SUV is stuck)
12" of snow = All above plus, government officially shut down, tickets from law enforcement if you leave your driveway, SUV drivers all stuck at Home Depot or Lowes trying to buy snowblowers (all sold out) or salt (sold out) or shovel (sold out)
24" of snow = All above plus, police towing SUVs stuck, as soon as you have your driveway clear, snowplow will deposit 48" of gunk at end of driveway, several murders over cleared street parking spots, civilization jeopardized

Coating of ice = all SUV drivers "I have 4 wheel drive so I can still do 90." Insurance companies work overtime for SUV claims.

Yes, we noticed the manta of all SUV owners when we were in CO...

"I have 4-wheel drive. I am invincible!!"

Malley was very excited to see snow again. Right now our two biggest issues are that she thinks anything on the kitchen counter is hers and she destroys all dog toys in about 10 minutes. I need to figure out a source for the toys that zoos give to their lion, tigers, wolves, bears, etc.

Hi M!!!! I have some sources. PM me if you want them.

Although right now, I am on her good side since we celebrated our 16th anniversary last night (a week early since she is in Paris next week) and I went the 'shiny things' route and got her 1/2 carat diamond earrings so she is very happy for a change with me.

Excuse me for a moment....

Honey! Oh Honey - there's something here you need to read!

Just in case anyone is getting withdrawal symptoms.

I am the worst mom ever.
I was the only Mom who didn't walk my kids all the way into their classroom everyday - in 2nd GRADE! I let them ride their bikes to school when the weather was nice. They walked/road and entire block and a half BY THEMSELVES!!

Now they ride the bus. I'm the only parent at the bus stop who doesn't stand there and wait for the bus with them. I shoo them out the door, they walk a block and I drive by few minutes later to make sure they got there (and didn't miss the bus).

I guess I'm just crazy to think that those little snippets of independence and responsibility are important.

:thumbsup2 :thumbsup2 You GO Mom!

Let them take the little risks now so when they get big enough to really hurt themselves (or others) they've already learned about consequences. A few pinched fingers in the grocery cart wheels is well worth the lesson in my book.

IT'S COOKIE TIME!

I like cake. :cake: :rotfl2:

So, if I just PM you my address, they'll be in the mail?? :goodvibes

YUM!!

Greetings from NY... Got up at like 6AM today (which is very unusual for me). I was not feeling well last night and went to bed early. I am better today, but not quite 100%.

Spent time idle time doing ketchup.

Nonetheless, we will go get the Xmas tree today. I will post a picture, but it wont be as elaborate as what I have seen posted thusfar.

Made it to chat on Fri nite at midnight (had a poker game that ended early). I caught arlene alone on the board... and monica joined us later. We need more west coasters to hold up the chat for this nite owl!

Nice to see some new folks aboard! Smee, when were you on the 4-day in Aug? We were on the last cruise in August 2007.

My DW is in a cookie swap and we always struggle with what to bake. So any good recipies are appreciated (as long as they are not too complex).

I see the 2009 DCL dates are out as well. I booked the last cruise for 2008 (New Years cruise) thinking I might use it as a placeholder for a 2009 cruise with a discount. Tortola sounds nice... St. Croix I will pass on... but the extended family is talking about possibly doing a big trip to Italy (we are of Italian heritage and want to go b4 my parents would be too old to enjoy seeing the grandkids in the homeland) in summer of 2009. So part of me thinks I should keep and go on the New Year's Cruise, but it is so darned expensive (the 7 day New Years cruise is within $1000 of the TOAL). But it probably makes more sense to just cancel the New Year's Eve cruise and hold a late 2009 date during the TOAL to then transfer into 2010. Did I just confuse everyone?

Anyway a happy day to all. Prayers to those who need (and those that dont).

Hey Sil, hope you feel better. Hopefully work is slowing down for you a bit. You didn't confuse me with your cruise plans. You can keep moving the date--DCL is very expensive to travel during the holidays--I learned that with our Easter cruise--7 nighter was more expensive than this one.

Here are a couple of threads with some cookie recipes

IT'S COOKIE TIME!

Does anyone else do an insane amount of baking at Christmas? I make 10-12 different kinds of cookies and 3-4 kinds of candy. I have it down to a science. I mix all the dough in one day & put it in the fridge - don't even THINK about walking into my kitchen today! Then I bake 1-2 types a night for about a week straight.

THEN, I make plates for neighbors, friends, hockey coaches, co-workers, etc. Teachers get a mini loaf of quickbread (banana cocnut macadamia this year) and some of Grandma Sk8ingFam's famous hot cocoa mix.

Here's my plate from last year:

cookieplate.jpg

Who wants to share recipes?? I make

Chocolate chip
peanut butter chocolate chip
Chocolate Crinkle
Nut thumbprints
Peanut butter thumbprints
Almond cookies
Almond crescents
Yeddish (MIL calls 'em butterballs)
Butterhorns
Peanut butter magic middles
Brussel Kek (nifty rolled cookie so the sprinkles are on the outer edge)
Sugar
Spritz
Candy Canes

For candy, I make

Choc walnut fudge
Heavenly hash (chocolate, nuts and marshmallows)
Buckeyes
Buttercream or maple bob bons

All I make are "Chippies". Melted chocolate chips, butterscotch chips and peanut butter, poured over mini marshmallows. Yummmmm!

Here's a couple pics of my tree. Also a shot of a couple special ornaments. My tree doesn't have a "theme" I just like a "hodgepodge" tree. My ornaments have special meanings to me. Most I get as gifts from friends or from our travels. I have several that belonged to my Gramma.
