Oh....

... how funny.... I just ripped a BillyJoel live concert CD. I've been so busy today - I have not been on the DIS at all til now.

Well, I really need to start reading here daily. I see people are back (yeah, the people I'm jealous of. ;) ) and boy..took me hours to catch up only a few days of posts!
I want to say Happy Birthday to all those I missed in my absence- and Congrats to Chrissy also!

I wanted building 1 too but didn't like the layout of the NQQ3's as much and that whole HIGHWAY thing was disconcerting....

It's really not that much further and hey, the more walking the better.....
Got make room for mickey bars and chocolate souffle.... (Insert former mickey bar smiley here. Guess the DIS deleted it cause someone felt the need to add 10 billion stupid wish smiles.)

Guess it's a mute point for now.... Seems that rate code doesn't work anymore... Guess we took all that availability...

PS ONE MORE POST TILL THE BIG 5K for me!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Wht about the layout of NQQ3's did you not like?
the highway thing just means it's on the other side (not facing DL) and so it's not concerning to me at all. About walking more though.. it is LIKELY that I will be going ahead of time with the kids to do DL and DH just meeting up with us shortly before the cruise- so he can work that week. I'm thinking of the walk back... and my then barely 8yr old probably won't to walk anymore than she does now and will be far too big for ME to carry back to the room... (and no, no stroller for an 8yr old, no matter how little she is LOL). If I was alone- I'd take whatever room was cheapest and not give a care for how far it is.. but with kids who aren't keen on walking more than they have to after a day at the parks... yanno?
So there is no more availability for the discount for that week prior to the cruise?

I totally agree! I've heard an even weirder story from a friend here - we had HUGE storms last Thursday which included a couple tornados, high winds and a lot of damage. I certainly understand the schools locking down the kids during this storm - the weirdness is that one school also locked down parents! It was the time the school normally lets out and a lot of parents were there to pickup their kids. They herded them all to the library (where they expected to line up to sign out their kids) and then LOCKED THEM IN!!! They were not allowed to leave and they were not with their children. The kids weren't even told their parents were there, so some of them were panicking that their mom or dad must be outside the school waiting for them in the storm. How crazy is that! I could see telling parents that they "could" take shelter in the library, but LOCKING them into the room seems totally crazy.

Pamela (pdarrah)
That is crazy- and really doesn't seem legal! I guess their line of thinking is -if you're on our property we're "responsible" for you... but where else can you think of that if you're there during a storm they are allowed to lock you in- and even lock you in seperated from your children? Unbelievably crazy! (what country am I in again? Sometimes I wonder...)

pixiedust: pixiedust: pixiedust: Happy to share
thanks! I need all I can get!

Just an update. They kept them in on Wed. as well but for only 30 min. Caused her to be late for Soccer etc. But this is the interesting and frustrating part. She had a talk with the nurse on Monday. Detailing Moragans medical condition which she said she was well aware of as her dog had it:confused3 We didn't know it was something dogs had. Anyway she said we are aware of condition blah blah.... You can leave the injectable here for the paramedics if they need it, but I am gone when the school day is over. So this means they are aware of his situation but should they have another lockdown after hours, it seems the whole process breaks down as no one would be able to get his info or the meds, but the nurse.Privacy etc.... So she still is back to square one. Now should she allow him to carry his oral meds with him unbeknown to the school in case this does arise?None of the schools so far have allowed this. The nurse has to have them in her office.(see above)If he gets caught it really means trouble as it is against policy and can result in his suspension. Or will she go to the school board and maybe get an attorney involved.( Again she never should have moved. ARRRRGH The fire stations here all carried the meds for the 2 kids and were so accomodating they even had a conference call with the dr to learn more about the condition.)
The only good thing as far as he is concerned is she is now letting him carry an old cell phone to school each day now as she just got so disgusted after speaking to the school and not getting an answer as to why they didn't let the kids call home.
I'm getting off my soapbox now and really need to get out of the house to return my Mammogram films and drop off his car payment........

It seems like they are attempting to keep people safe, and most likley for liability reasons. However, they seem to be clearly IGNORING the liability they hold if they lock kids in that need medication... someone isn't thinking clearly (and by someone- I mean whoever is "authority" over the decision to do this and how it's handled when they do it!) If ever someone was asking for someone to get hurt (not taking medication) and getting sued...

I just now had an e-mail from Todd. They're back on the ship, starting their packing. He's not a happy camper. He WAS glad to be on (relatively) dry land today....and said there was a big sign at Castaway Cay that said "Welcome Back Disney Magic".
They had a great time, rebooked onboard...and also booked the 5 night following this cruise! Now I'm really jealous!!

He wrote every day and didn't complain of slow internet, so I wonder if it had anything to do with where your stateroom is? They are on Deck 8.

Geesh, I'm so jealous too! And I was already jealous about the med cruise! There is absolutely no way we could do the 5nt after this cruise. Even if we could somehow win the lottery (that we don't buy tickets for LOL) we couldn't do the b2b on this cruise -atleast not afterwards... because of school. :(

I do subfolders in My Photos first by year, then by topic so:

2006
Disney Cruise
Kids Birthdays
Christmas
Cute Pix (the "misc" category)
2007
Disney and Seaworld
Kids Birthdays
Easter family

and so forth

When I crop/edit, I always save as a different name.

I have the 30D and have been happy with it so far (other than one repair for a frozen shutter)...

The quality has been great and have gotten some great 10x14 even after cropping.
that is how I do it too.
Although I do eventually put them on CD's and some in the past I used permanent marker to mark them (now I use lightscribe on the new computer to label them). Now I'm worried- why on earth does writing with marker on the opposite side mess up or damage the pictures on it? :(

Update, Ryan's body was found this afternoon.

Missing teen's family spots his body

I'm glad they found him so the family (and everyone else) can have closure.
I don't really know the words to say- it's a hard thing to go thru. I lost a friend my senior yr in HS -drowned on mother's day. I lost a close cousin 5yrs ago- drowned and boy found days later also. There just aren't any words that makes that easier to handle. My prayers for the family- and for Angelina... I know it has to be so difficult for her. :(

I found this at the mall today for less than $2.00! At a game/toy store called Kirby's World.

P1000612.jpg
That is awesome! And even DIS green!

I kinda thought so too. I had seen these on ebay last week and they wanted like $12.00 just for shipping! They're in China or Hong Kong or something.
Yeah, I saw those too. I couldn't bring myself to buy them with the expensive shipping and coming from so far away. I haven't exactly had a great track record when purchasing from people so far away.... and you REALLY don't want to pay the shipping back there (and then just hope you actually get a refund) if something is sent to you incorrect or damaged. :(

My guess earlier in the week was right on. My surgery will be on the 10th of September, at noon.

I have plantar fasicitis. They'll go in at the heel and remove the bone spur, then remove the damaged portion of the ligament and also cut the ligament to loosen it. Then they'll (for some reason...I didn't ask, I was scared to) drill 3 holes in the bone in my heel and finish by going up to my calf and cutting a part of the calf muscle to loosen that.
Three weeks in a non weight-bearing cast, then 3 more in a walking cast.
When that's all healed and I'm done with therapy....and if I haven't left the country to avoid it, they'll repeat the process on my right foot.

Continued good wishes for your daughter! I wouldn't want to see any young person go through all this....or any pain for that matter. So I hope she's doing really well. :wizard:
I will be thinking of you that day!
My sister had surgery that is almost identical to yours (except for the part about going up into the calf...) just over a year ago. She healed really quickly- and I hope the same for you! What she said was the healing "pain" after surgery was far less than the pain before the surgery! I hope you feel the same way...

Wow lots of you in Crew Dining (late Dining) What happened to all the people that were in Captains Dining (main Dining) ????

Seperate post because I'm afraid some people might skim past my "long quotes" post. LOL

Todd- glad you're back! We missed you (and everyone else that was gone on this cruise!) I saw someone else asked but didn't see your reply. I thought for a minute there I was losing my mind because I thought you had 2 children! Did your other child not go on the cruise-or just didn't get into the pirates stuff for the photos? (not even the white repo-logo shirts at the end of the cruise?)

Anyone feeling so inclined- please send some pixie dust our way. I'm a worry-wart by nature but my stress level is up to HERE lately because of "financial stuff". Basically my husband has me scared to death that not only will the "no overtime" stuff continue far longer than it ever has before (and we depend on the overtime- his check is half when there is no overtime on it-- we can't save for the cruise if he doesn't get overtime!) but that they may be having layoffs and POSSIBLY even closing the plant. I'm not usually afraid of overtime issues because usually even if they cut overtime and say it's "forever"- it usually never lasts longer than week or two. And this plant has been open here all my life- so I have hard time imagining it happening. But it appears the rumors are strong this time... so it's a possibility.
BUT there are positions open (in the same field- maintenance engineer) at a local Miller brewery. (yeah... my husband very very rarely drinks, ironic huh? LOL Some other people from his plant (coworkers) have gone there- and say good things.
One coworker left Jeff's plant because he couldn't get supervisor there- and is now supervisor at Miller. He said they are hiring 5 people (because 5 people retiring soon and need to replace them) and for Jeff to apply online and he'd get him in.
Lots of things to consider, and worry about, with changing positions like this though. The starting pay is slightly (very slightly) more per hour than his present job- BUT they are saying they can get as much overtime as they want there... so knowing what a workaholic Jeff is (he never ever EVER says no if they ask him to work overtime or call him in again) we should be rolling in money if that is true. LOL
If that is true.. KWIM?
Other things to consider (since the per hour pay is only slightly more than he's paid now) is the commute (present job is in town, Miller is atleast 30min drive each way- possibly more depending on traffic) -and gas isn't cheap nowadays. also how much vacation pay he would recieve -and when that would start- and would he still be able to take off for this TOAL! (yes that is important. LOL) How much insurance costs there, is it union or not- and what paid holidays do they get/etc. AND what shift he'd have to work- they don't do rotating shifts there so atleast I don't have to worry about that BUT if they will only hire for evenings or nights- that's really a nogo for us. Even rotating shifts- SOMETIMES working days- was hard enough... the kids would never see him if he worked evenings.
Just lots of stuff to consider... and scary to just start a new job- back to low seniority/etc.
(I only worry the TEENSIEST bit about it being a new job and what if he can't retain the position or gets fired/etc. Only a little- because Jeff is a very hard worker and every job he's ever worked they end up relying on him greatly- so that "shouldn't" be an issue. But you just never know... should be a plus that if he's hired, he'd be hired by a previous coworker who now works there- and obviously knows Jeff and how well he works- hence the reason he's been "soliciting" Jeff to apply there. LOL)

So anyway... he's applied, the supervisor is on vacation this week (he's the only one hiring- Jeff's previous coworker that told him he'd hire Jeff if only Jeff would apply there...) -so I'm not sure how this is going to play out... have to wait for him to call Jeff and Jeff to ask him all these questions about the stuff I mentioned above. But it's POSSIBLE he may be starting a new job soon... and it just scares me.
(Yes,I said I'm a worry wart...)
So think good thoughts please...

On a good note- school is going well for the kids... and although I have my days to myself, I still haven't gotten my sleep schedule changed as well as I got the kids' sleep schedule changed. So I'm not getting a whole lot done during the day (ie: napping LOL) And the kids are back to keeping me VERY busy in the afternoons/evenings. But so far no scheduling snafus... somehow I manage to split myself into 3 people to keep up with these kids and their schedules. ;)

And we have new neighbors. They still haven't technically "moved in" (they haven't moved furniture in yet- just closed this weekend) but they will be soon. They moved in to the house next to us that's been on the market longer than ours was (and we've lived here almost a year now- wow that 10mo went by fast!) But the best thing is... this family that bought the house next to us used to live across the street from us 2 moves ago (meaning not the last house we bought- but the house we were renting for a few years before that- so I mean they were neighbors with us, for a few years, a few years ago). One of their daughter's is the same age as my eldest dd- so ofcourse they were good friends, same basketball teams, same school, etc. back then. Their daughter is in 7th grade though- so last year my daughter didn't see her... (because my dd was in 7th grade at middle school, the friend was still in 6th grade at intermediate school) but now she's not only in MS with our dd (and in wind ensemble band with her) but is also our NEIGHBOR! So they are both pretty excited about that! Small world huh? (well... it just goes to show how small this town still is, despite some people thinking it's a lot bigger than it used to be LOL)

Hope everyone has a great "end of week" and weekend... if I'm not back before then to say so. :)

Who would have figured you'd have a new neighbor like THAT! So much in common and so close again? If I didn't know better I'd say you were being ... stalked! But nahhh.... if so ... then it's actually a good thing from what you describe.

And on the company chage thing. Yeah... my spouse changed companies something like 4x in 5 or 6 years once. THAT was unnatural and fairly disruptive. Now shes been at her comapny maybe 12 or 13 years and myself - I've been at my thing for so long I can't seem to recall now - however it's been about 20 years now. My point - is that as my spouse changed comapnies - most of the time it was for the better. Once it was not. And as for my past before my current gig - I had 5 job/company changes in about 6 years. all progressively better except one sideways shift.

Off hand - I would score your potential change as a good shift. It sounds lik you have a lot already going in your direction. The overriding advantages seem to be greater security, the promise of more overtime and revenue, and a friendly more positive environment. Shoot - that's more than what many could hope for when looking at a new employer... sometimes.

At any rate - hang in there. Wait for the interview to reveal the details of the new position. It is likely to have some things better - and some less than desired. But on the balance - it may be more than you were expecting.

We'll be sprinkling pixie dust your way in the days to come BIP! Hang in there...

Stace,

This is so true. I see young folks sometimes doing really silly and sometimes wreckless and unwise things. In fact - the same thing goes for some grown ups - as today I had a fellow make a sharp and illegal right hand turn onto the freeway through my blind spot off my left shoulder behind me - and try to PASS me whle getting on the freeway! Only they turned - tried to pass and then skidded with screeching tires as they braked and turned AWAY when they realized they were not going to make it. All the while this was going on - I was clueless as they were in my blind spot as I turned onto the freeway.

When this clown in the JEEP pulled around me - he pulls forward and merges ahead of me - then pulls to the right to pass the next guy - only to be blocked by another car pulling off the freeway too. Then I pass him on the left normally while he;s blocked on the right (he was trying to pass people again in the exiting lane fromthe freeway - illegal again) and I got a 2nd look at him - he was middle aged - maybe late 40s or early 50s. Sorry to see that as I sooner expected to see a young person full of youthful inexperience.

Anyways - I would not wish any harm unto anyone. And I can only hope that tragic events help others avoid the same.

Oh well.... it's tough to sayor think much when tragedy comes to visit sometimes.

I don't drive a Jeep, but otherwise that sounds like me driving. :rolleyes1

J.R. - Hope you feel better soon. Perhaps you could increase her shoe budget as a bargaining chip :rotfl:

Oh please don't mention shoes again. I'm still in trouble from December. (And she really doesn't own THAT many shoes -- just tries to take them all on the cruise).

The back is feeling better. I stayed home from work yesterday but meandered in today.

I probably won't get the riding mower. Not in the budget and technically DS13 is supposed to have grass cutting chores and I don't want to make it too easy on him.

I took Cheryl 15 min to talk me thru signing up for the photbucket account, and sizing the photos. After that it is a cinch. She gave up on me when she was trying to get me to post a cake...:lmao: So I am still pirate: ing them for now.

You have Cheryl giving you computer advice? It's a wonder you can post at all still. That's the blonde leading the blind, isn't it? :rotfl:

NEWS RELEASE

DHS REMINDS CARRIERS AND TRAVELING PUBLIC ABOUT THE END OF THE TEMPORARY WHTI ACCOMMODATION

Could there be a couple more acronyms in that headline? I almost could understand what it meant.

I think I had "Temporary WHTI Accommodation" once, but I took some Pepto Bismol and it cleared right up.

We just arrived home, and Angelina has decided to go to school tomorrow morning. It was just too much for her to handle tonight.

One of the first things Angelina saw when we entered the funeral home, other than Ryan's siblings, was the picture of her and Ryan that was taken before going to the Homecoming Dance. When Angelina saw the picture she lost it and fell into my arms sobbing. We made it to the front of the room OK, until she saw Ryan's mom. The coffin was closed and had a large picture of Ryan sitting on top, next to the flowers from his parents.

Once we paid our respects to Ryan's parents, Angelina asked if we could leave, she cried a good part of the way home. I'm hoping now that some healing can start.

Thanks everyone, I felt your support and prayers this evening.

Andy, take care of your little girl and let her know that we are praying for her and Ryan's family.

Will do J R and thanks!!! Hazel and I will be leaving here around 9am to attend Ryan's funeral.

Speaking of my little girl, here's a pic I took of Lina this morning before she left for her first day of her Senior Year of high school. I think she made the right decision with going to school today.

You know she'll get you for that :lmao: Actually she was quite proficient and I just had her on speakerphone while I uploaded everything. My DS actually showed me this 2-3x but he kept signing me up on websites he is used to and not Photobucket. So the minute he left............

She and John are here in Orlando. They have been running around the World.(quite literally) She is wearing a pedometer and is giving me their daily milage count :scared1: She says the parks are empty and they have really been enjoying the Free Dining Plan.I must say she and John have great weather. Hasn't rained a drop since they have been in town. That could be a good thing for TOAL? Oops. knocking on wood...................Today is their last day in the park and then they are going to check out some areas they were interested in for retirement.:rotfl2:

Neighbor: well, I probably should have mentioned that there is a lot of scrambling- with people moving to be able to have their kids attend the schools they want. They keep changing the districting of the schools around here and are VERY strict about not allowing kids out of that school's district to go to that school (neighbor said they wouldn't even let her pay the 4k fee). They also now have 2 middle schools- the neighbor has 4 kids. She wanted her middle schooler to go to the middle school where all her friends are going AND for her youngest to go to the same elementary her other children had gone to - so just like that they moved. Still own the other home, paid cash for this one- must be nice huh? (they own a car sales lot) Wish I was rich enough to just buy a home without financing -a 2nd home at that...

But anyway, when we decided to buy a bigger home- we also looked to stay on this side of town for the same reasons... to go to this elementary and this middle school. So it's not THAT big of a coincidence, but it was a bit of a shock to realize they were moving right next door. (they said they put in lowish bids on all the homes around here- the next door neighbors were the only ones willing to negotiate, I imagine because they had their house on the market for 2yrs... they were asking too much for it in the first place- hence the reason WE didn't buy that house instead of this one LOL)

job: thanks for the well wishes
Jeff's previous jobs he was at one for 10yrs, this one for over 8yrs now... and I don't do well with change, especially when it involves our sole livelihood- yanno? Scary stuff...
But then again- as long as everything else comes out to atleast "equal" when all things are considered... it's very unlikely that miller will close the plant. Our county is dry- but the county the Miller plant is in is wet obviously... and it isn't likely people are going to stop drinking beer- yanno? LOL (the plant he works in now makes fiberglass- totally different.)
LOL@ the fortune cookies- especially the last one...

Will do J R and thanks!!! Hazel and I will be leaving here around 9am to attend Ryan's funeral.

Speaking of my little girl, here's a pic I took of Lina this morning before she left for her first day of her Senior Year of high school. I think she made the right decision with going to school today.

Oh she is such a beautiful young lady!

Got my fingers crossed for ya! Good luck!

I haven't read every post some things are going on around here. They are minor compared to the other losses people are going through. Will give a brief update in a min. Wanted to say some stuff before I forget............:surfweb:

Lil Grumpy: Although I wish I could write such beautiful words...........I did not. I am not sure who the author was. I just simply found something i wanted to say but didn't know how.

Welcome back everyone from your other TOAL. I had a friend on that cruise, Mickeymom ( Bev ) she told me all about the great time she had.

Todd: Your pictures were FANTASTIC !!! I aqm proud to know you and boy do you give that other Jack a run for his money !!:goodvibes Although I think it's a great idea for shot on castaway.....I know we wouldn't participate. Chuck loves to fish and doesn't get a chance to go unless we are on a cruise ! Whenever we visit Castaway it's special for us to re-visit where we were married. I would really like to participate on pirate night though !

Late dinner people............we cancelled our waitlist for main dining. Count us in !!!:cheer2: It just works out better for us especially the time zone diff.

Chrissie: Congrats on your engagement !

Andy: It's a beautiful pic. of Angelina. Sending your family :wizard: :wizard: to get through this difficult time.

update.........I had several tests a couple of weeks ago. Results are in, I have minor arthritis in my lower back. I need a double operation, hope this isn't to much TMI:rolleyes1 I have sludge and stones in gallbladder and they found some things in my ovaries, thus requiring 2 different surgeons. I am having a problem with my sugar & chol. They need to be stablized before surgery. I am having a different kind of test on Mon. for sugar and have one appt. for surgeon already. I can't believe how quick they got me in, don't know if that's a good thing or not? Not fretting too much, it is what it is. I will admit I am scared but more worried about family being worried. This will also force Chuck to use some of his vacation time that he has so much of.:thumbsup2
