I may be naive here...but...
is it possible DCL may not have known and the Panama GVT didn't inform them?

Honestly, to me, this is such an amazing cruise. I love the ship. The ports seem amazing, they are all (except Castaway) new to me. Plus, I have made some new friends on this board as well.

I would pay (not hoping to) more than what I have paid/am paying.

Just my thoughts-don't :lmao: or  or :sad2: or :headache:

IMO...I can't imagine they would have done that. They knew there would be some kind of transition fee. I talked to Disney when I made my reservations on the DCL website about the taxes/port fees because I was using it to negotiate with my TA some onboard credits. I was told our taxes/port fees were $1,412 and commissionable fare was $4,200 for a total of $5,612 for 2A and 2C.

I still haven't seen this charge show up on my TA ressie, so I hesitate to contact DCL to complain about a fee that I haven't really been charged yet. I have not received any letters or notices from Disney either, but assume the charge is going to show up eventually. The extra $400 takes the total of our taxes/fees to $1,812, or $453/person. I tried pricing a couple of other cruise lines on their Panama taxes/fees and their's were around $300/person with more ports of call.

I agree, can't see this was deliberate.

If they deliberately left out a fee and failed to provide notice that it would be assessed later, they would be guilty of fraud and have all kinds of legal problems.

I also just recieved an email from my TA. She states they haven't recieved "official" word from DCL. I wonder if DU has recieved official word or just doing damage control before hand? I dunno.....:confused3

ITA with Joel.....No way they left those charges off. They knew that some people would be paying in full right away (as several on this thread have already done) and could no longer charge them. At least by adding what the current tax/fees were, they got something out of them.

I think they (DCL) are making a profit off of this, and they don't really care if someone cancels, because they have so many waiting to take their spot at a much higher price.

I have also seen argument elsewhere that DCL is still overbooked on this TOAL and is hoping people cancel over this.....

Might be a stretch, but who knows...:confused3

Although if people are starting to get room assignments, it would tend to go against that argument...

No room assignment here.....maybe I'm one of the people they want off. :goodvibes

You got me beat Andy. Onthe way to the Dr today, I'm filling up at Sams. 2.75 best price around here.

Hazel was on her way home from her Ladies Night Out at the church last night and she called to let me know she saw gas at 2.459 a gallon. I told her to fill the car up, she said we still had half a tank, I said I don't care, fill the car up....... The gas station around the corner from was still selling gas at 2.659 yesterday.

That's the best price I've heard about in I don't know how long.

WOW! You guys have it MUCH better than us Chicagolanders! I'm in the far West suburbs which is cheaper than closer to the city - but the BEST we've seen anywhere recently was 3.029 - most stations are between 3.089 and 3.159. This is a major improvment over a few weeks ago when the best was about 3.239 and I saw as high as 3.399!

So far, I haven't seen a satisfactory answer on why Chicago area prices are so much higher than other parts of the country.

Got my tank filled yesterday at Costco for $2.61 - could not believe my eyes! Hopefully the prices will keep the downward motion!

Third possibility is that someone (no longer a DCL employee) #*($&*ed royally....

or did the former employee royally #*($ up?

I may be naive here...but...
is it possible DCL may not have known and the Panama GVT didn't inform them?

Even if they knew fees would increase some...they would at least have budgeted the cost of the previous charge to transit the canal... It wasn't free last set of Repos.

I have also seen argument elsewhere that DCL is still overbooked on this TOAL and is hoping people cancel over this.....

Maybe this is the first tactic in a long line of strategy to weed out the numbers.

Can you imagine the damage control if no one cancelled? (or not enough anyway) I'd be peeved.:sad2:

Because by the time DCL knew they wouldn't have enough rooms...people would have already planned trips...booked rooms...and had airfare...and ordered passports.

Wow, what a difference in taxes we have. I booked online through DCL 1/31 am and printed out the itemized bill at the end which give me a per passenger charge and taxes. We have a Cat 9 2A 2C and our Government taxes and fees total is $216.96 (Total for 4 of us). :confused3

Rumor has it they will start by kicking people in bonus rooms (e.g. SPH) off first..... :lmao: :lmao:

Joel110 - just curious, does it list $1412 on the Gvmt Taxes & Fees line item of your confirmation. I only ask becuse my states $162.72 which breaks down to $54.24/pp, exactly what Roger's does. However, I thought that was a little low for taxes and fees for all ports, so maybe there are some charges listed as a seperate line item as well as some incorporated into the quote, or perhaps they were NOT incorporated at all :headache: :headache: :headache: - UGH - totally confused.....again, still

(Ps Good morning everyone!)

Good Morning, Chrissie. Have you been *re-appling* faithfully these days :rotfl:

I guess it's possible Chrissie, however just a little story.....

I found out about this cruise while we were on our 2006 Holiday Cruise from of all people, The CHEF :confused3 . He swore this was true since all the menus had been planned already according foods that would be loaded on in each particular port. Now, at the time I considered this to be just another ruomor like the dozens of others floating around the ship (which was buzzing like crazy) as well as the internet. Of course, his info turned out to be correct.

It sounds like DCL tends to take into consideration every last detail (like what they will be serving me for breakfast on day three) before they annouce (and price out) these special cruise. Perhaps they were not aware, but.........

I also just recieved an email from my TA. She states they haven't recieved "official" word from DCL. I wonder if DU has recieved official word or just doing damage control before hand? I dunno.....:confused3

Chrissie

I got an official letter from DCL dated July 17th. I think it is official :goodvibes

:lmao: :lmao: :lmao:

None here either. I must be one of the "undesireables" too :sad1:

Pamela (pdarrah)

Every time they give the "gas price report" they always mention the place in the country where gas is most expensive, and almost every time it is Chicago. Do you guys have extra high local taxes or something????

Is it possible that Joel110 is including insurance with his fees and taxes? My taxes are exactly what the other 2 posters stated. ($54.24 before the increase)

I gotta load the van and kids now... Aloha ...

You & your family have a wonderful trip, Tom.

I swear I have never dealt with death so much as lately.
First DH's Uncle being killed by the train a couple of weeks ago and today.
I got an email from a close friend that a mutual friend of ours killed her entire family and then herself today. :sad1: I can't begin to tell you how out of character this was. She was just so sweet. She was such a good Mom, always up at school being room mom. PTA etc. You always saw her smiling and laughing- but not creepy/manic like. I cannot even imagine what must have happened in her mind to do something like this. We are not remotely talking about an Andrea Yates type person. I am still completely in shock.
It was not fun telling my DD that her classmate was dead and his Mom did it. They had a 7 year old DS and an 11 yo DD. Both my kids were friends with each of their kids.
This has hit way too close.
This is especially so sad when great people are looking for kids to love and make a wonderful home for and another Mom. kills hers. Just does not make sense.:sad2:

:grouphug: :grouphug: This is just so tragic and truly does not make sense. My heart goes out to your DD in trying to process all this :grouphug:

I'm in shock right now and could use your prayers, pixie dust, or whatever you believe in. My son was just diagnosed with moderate to severe hearing loss. It seems to be progressive and they are not sure when or if he will lose his hearing completely. We've got an appointment later this week to begin getting him hearing aids, an appointment next week with the ENT doc to try to determine the cause, and trying to get an appointment for genetic testing. We're trying to get all this done before I leave in 2 weeks.

It's all so overwhelming. I flucuate between being concerned about the cost since my medical doesn't cover hearing aids, the timing of trying to get things in place before I leave so that he can be ready to start school while I'm going, to the quality of life impacts for him.

I've noticed over the last few years that he would have the TV up rather loudly and that I would have to repeat things to him. But I passed it off and ST behavior, more of a listening issue than a hearing issue. But last month he asked to get a hearing test done. They started us out with his pediatrian and when they noticed some abnormalities in his test, they referred us to an audiologist. His hearing is about the same in both ears, but way below the average.

I have to give the audiologist credit though. When explaining that he needed hearing aids, she made it sound so cool with all the gadgets he'd be able to get. Such as special plugs for TV and iPods. And there's a device that the school has to provide that is a microphone that the teacher wears and it feeds directly into the hearing aid. My son hasn't complained at all yet about having to wear them. Especially after she told him he could get special designs on them.....get this, her example.....a skull and crossbones pirate:

I'm slipping into the 'why me' mode this afternoon and that is not a place I want to be. I haven't had a chance yet to have a good cry, pour into the research or do anything productive. I had to get back to work after the appointment. I just feel that I'm going to crash and burn tonight but I need to stay positive for my son.

Monica, lots of prayers & PD coming your way :grouphug: pixiedust: pixiedust: pixiedust: . Everything will be OK :grouphug:

Harley says "HAPPY BIRTHDAY ISSAC!!

This dog is just too CUTE!!!!

Well, we've officially sent the email...:sad1:

We notified DU that we will be cancelling. I wish I could say that it's because we got some good news. But it's because we HAVEN'T gotten any news that we're cancelling.

Now we're just going to wait and see what happens with some of the kids we've inquired about, and then maybe we'll plan a regular Magic cruise for later in '08 or early '09 when we know more about what's going to happen.

We took the week off work last week and went camping up in Michigan. During the week, we did a lot of talking and a lot of soul-searching.
A large part of our decision comes from the fact that the child/children we get will likely have some sort of issues, whether they be health or behavioral issues, issues with attachment, or just the normal issues with the transition into a new home. We know that no matter what children we get, there will likely be some pretty significant bumps in the road to our becoming a family, at least for the first year.

We're just not comfortabe making the commitment to take such a huge vacation while we'll likely still be in that "transition period". Who knows whether or not the child/children would be able to handle it. So after a long heart to heart, we decided that we'll cancel, and then we'll do another cruise later when we can have a better grasp on our situation.

So that's it. It's official. While we're sad, we know that it's the right decision for us right now. Maybe there'll be another "TOAL" in '09! :thumbsup2

I'll still pop in here from time to time and keep you updated on things. Thanks to all of you for all of your encouraging words over the past months. This has been a tough journey for us so far, and it seems we may still have quite a ways to go.

So thanks for being a GREAT group of folks, and I will really miss meeting you all on the cruise! :grouphug: Hopefully I'll get the opportunity to meet some of you on a future cruise! :thumbsup2
-Christal
Christal-

I hope I get the opportunity to meet you someday too. I know things will work out for you becuase you are obviously amazing, caring people. I do hope all works out very soon for you :grouphug:

I am going to play ketchup later but did a fast lurk and wanted to thank everyone for my Birthday Wishes!!! What a great group of friends!!!!

Today was not only Monday, my birthday, but was MONEY DAY!!! :thumbsup2 My DS sent me a gift card, got 3 pay checks from the stuidos, got a huge gift card from a consumer panel I give opinions to(don't laugh too hard, someone actually pays me to think), got extra projects that will pay me for this weekend, and then I open my e-mail from Dreams for an extra $300..:woohoo: :woohoo:

This was better than Christmas.

Ugh - so sorry for the belated wish.......

:dancer: party: :bday: :bday: :bday: :bday: party: :dancer:

A Very Happy (belated) Birthday

sounds like it was your LUCKY Day to boot :woohoo:

Mary Ann remember that the Panama Tax fee would not have shown up on our personal tax bill. When we booked this cruise in January PC was charging DCL per tonnage not per passenger. Therefore it would be included in our ticket price not as a tax. And by the way $54.24/pp X 2500 passengers still comes out to $135,600 for 5 ports, that would be $27,120/port for ~8hrs of docking.

Oh good grief.....I got excited because my station went down to $2.98 this week. :sad2:
