Ahhhh the mark of an East Coaster! :teeth:

Not always an east coast trait...Especially not for my generation...

I couldn't wait to move away from my neighborhood in NE Philly. My sister is stuck there now in the house we grew up in. Her son is turning 5 next year and she has no idea what to do about school but there is no way in heck he's going to the public schools. She's almost forced into private school. Actually my mom gave the house to her through a private deal at below market. (So much for my inheritance... )

i grew up knowing i had no intentions on raising a family there in the same hell.

Most of my friends moved away too. Very few live in their previous neighborhoods. And actually after college, many of us moved to where the job markets took us. (For any development or engineering fields it was mainly MD or DC area.)

Happy Independence Day!

Greetings from Colorado Springs!
So, I plan to stalk HC tomorrow...
just kidding (I wanted to see the frying pan smilie reserved just for me...)
We got here a day earlier than planned because the back window fell off my car in Nowhereville, Colorado. I'm not kidding
THE BACK WINDOW FELL OFF MY CAR!!!!
I don't have an ancient hunk of junk. I have a 3 year old Explorer. The tailgate can open 2 ways: the window pops up, or the entire tailgate door can pop up. Well, when we stopped for lunch, DH opened the back window to get something out of the car and it popped off one of the hinges. It was interesting getting it back in place since we had to colapse one of those hydrolic arm thingies. Not fun, especially in 98-degree-Nowhereville-Colorado- on-a-holiday. So right now, my back window is being held on with duct tape, rachet straps, and happy thoughts.
We pressed on to Colorado Springs with the hope of getting the car to a shop tomorrow morning. We planned to be here 2 days anyway, so we should be able to remain on whatever we have that resembles a schedule. We are going to rent a car and carry on with the fun stuff while the family truckster gets fixed.
These are the things memories are made of, right???
Lots of pages that I can't catch up with right now, but THANKS J.R. FOR THE WEB SITE! It looks great!

Oh my!

Well welcome to Colorado Springs a bit late! The good news is, as you can tell we are in the middle of a great weather pattern and it is not going to be to hot this week! Last week was terrible , of course with all my guests here it made for some great fights and good laughs! Not sure where you are staying but I will PM you with our numbers incase you need anything and we will for sure have to meet up! There are a few great places to eat that are not chain type places to keep with your trip. I hope your window gets fixed here because East of here is 1000 miles beyond Nowhereville Colorado, and then it becomes Nomansland Kansas and the rest of the country appears to be a blur till you hit the east coast!

Enjoy the Broadmor and all other activities planned for the day! We did the Olympic training center last week, if you go take the guided tour since you get to see things as well as meet a few of the people training! If Malley needs a good hike Garden of the Gods would be great since she can hike and jog, just make sure she doesn’t stick her nose in any holes! There is also a rumor that the bats fly out at dusk there and is a site to be seen… HC’s mom said NO to that one so we have yet to see it.

Feel free to stalk HC as much as you want but be warned he is a chatter and might talk your ear off! Thank god for Duct Tape!!! Maybe you should write in to them about all your uses for it!
Talk to ya soon!

Here it is!

DW (a native Delawarean) had been on that private schooling kick herself. Of course now that we're in an area where the public schools are as good if not better than many private schools, things are different. Not just one or two schools--every school in the entire district! Our district is consistently ranked in the top 3 of the state!

A friend of ours who finally moved from Philly (because she got married) has 3-4 generations of her family living in a 5 block section of Oxford Circle. They were devestated when she left Philly, it was like she had died or something! Their maps show Philadelphia and the land outside the city is nothing but a mystery territory marked with "Here be dragons"!!!

oops...missed replying to this part!!
we've been very busy this summer...both with family commitments, and with the daycare kids. i keep wishing it was the end of july already, cuz i have some vaca time coming to me then...but then i hate to wish away the summer too! ugh! it's a no win situation! i just want some time to enjoy the lazy days of summer!!!!:cool2:

Happy Thursday everyone. What has happened? THe thread has crawled along and suddenly its gone in to over drive. Congrats on the 66000 post by the way Andy. Are the thread summaries still happening?

It's comforting to know that it is not just us in the UK that are getting a complete drenching at present. We still have 2 weeks before school ends, so hoping it dries out the otherwise the 6 week school holiday will be unbearable...and expensive!!

My parents have finally paid off their cruise in full, and on my "to do" list is to check our ressie on line to see if we have a cabin yet & also to check the ports of call as I seem to remember Esteri saying a couple had disappeared when she last checked.

Can't wait for a glimpse of the new site - but patience is a virtue. I'm obviously not very virtuous!

No cabin assignment here yet.:sad1:

We've stayed at POP a few times & I think it's great. My only concern was the food court got a little too crowded at during peak dining hours. It was tough just grab a coffee some mornings with my refillable mug. My kids are happy no matter where we stay as long as it's WDW. They've never complained about any place. I've only complained at CBR & that's because our room was 20 miles from the food court. Okay well it seemed that way when I was staggering for my coffee. Can you tell coffee is important to me? :goodvibes

Yep I like the way DH thinks too. Did you ever see that old vitamin commercial? "I think I'll keep him!" ;)

I will miss a lot of chat! I wonder if I should bring the lap top? Nah I don't think DH will go for that! :rolleyes1

Thanks for the birthday wishes!

I hear you about CBR! It's nice, but not when you have to walk for miles for that morning coffee! (OK it's not miles, just seems that way!) We are staying at Pop in 2 weeks! :cool1: Two weeks from day!

Well, I'm all ketchuped up now. Very nice job on the site J.R.. I guess I'm a day late and a dollar short, what I can see looks nice! :thumbsup2

I have a great stupidity story. Yesterday dd and I went to a local restaurant for breakfast before her choir sang. It was just a block away from the staging area. So we were eating when I decided to look in my purse for my wallet. Nope, it wasn't there! :scared1: I was so mortified. Of course that mean't no driver's license either! So I was saying to dd that I forgot my wallet and had only $4 on me. She got worried and asked if they would make us wash the dishes? I told her no, but I could explain to them what happened and leave my digital camera till I got back.

DD has on her choir t-shirt and I bought one too and had it on. So I'm sitting there working up my nerve to go to the register and admit how stupid I am, when a lady in the booth behind us comes over and says, "Here you can pay me back! Just drop it off at the board office." And lays a $20 on the table. Turns out she is the school district HR director. I thanked her and told her that I've done a lot of dumb things in my life, but never this. So we had a good laugh. I appreciate that act of kindness, rescuing me from my stupidity! I'm going to pick up a thank you card and along with the $20, put in a Panera gift card!

Willingly - that's all it has done here since the middle of June is rain. Some parts of the country have had serious floods with related deaths. We had thunder and lightening yesterday as well

Tell Helen we can say hi in person soon. What time are you leaving on Labor Day???? We need to make plans!!:woohoo: :woohoo:

I had to Google then, to find out when your "Labor Day" is :confused3

Your right though, Labor Day is the day we leave - 3rd of September. We leave our luggage at the Downtown Disney Virgin Atlantic check-in by 11:00 and usually go to a park for a few hours before we make our way to the airport to arrive there by about 16:00.

However, subject to change so we can hopefully meet you and John.:thumbsup2

I'm sure you and Helen will speak before then.

We're also hoping to catch Steph et al in that week.

David

Shannon, go to the thread tools and subscribe to this thread. But make sure you don't click on email notifications or you will be overwhelmed.:lmao:

Thank you, that is one of my dining out nightmares.Always look inthe bag before sitting down. Drive myself crazy.

Wow - When I last posted this morning, I didn't even notice it was my post number

on the DIS!!!

I guess I don't chat all that much, since it has taken me over 3 years to reach this milestone :thumbsup2

tom31b - Thanks for the thread summary

Have checked our ressie, still no room assignment or change to early dining. Cartagena & Aruba are still missing from the itinery you see initially, instead showing 4 consecutive at sea days. If however you look at "my cruise plans", both Cartagena & Aruba reappear!!!

micmse2003 - I really wish I could send some rain your way. The daft thing is, it is probably the wrong type of rain so we'll still end up with a hosepipe ban!
