We live in TX (August is our hottest month) so, we are used to the heat (and humidity!) LOL! Unfortunately this tour wasn't offered at a cooler time --- I would have taken it! :rotfl: I will usually only travel to cooler places in the summer months -- Colorado, etc.... The places with no humidity! ;)

Sad to say, Virginia, is not one of those places WITHOUT humidity . . .LOL. It's already 79 degrees and going up to the 90's. The good news is that we're close enough to the ocean that there is usually some breeze (and sometimes a strong wind . . .LOL). Enjoy your stay!

I definitely associate HUMIDITY with Virginia! I lived in Williamsburg one year from September to May (not the summer!) and I swear it rained/misted/fogged or did something involving precipitation every single day! OK - I might be exaggerating a little, but not by much! I felt soggy all the time :umbrella: Eventually the weather drove me back home to the Midwest! :rotfl2: (Actually it was a combination of the weather and the culture difference at William & Mary - my roommate actually wouldn't be seen in public with me if I wore jeans! :confused3 ) I'm just not an "ivy league" kind of person and am not very good at conformity or sororities or any of that....

Hey all! Hope everyone had a great 4thof July. Things are starting to settle down here now. DD's choir sang before the parade yesterday. The rain stopped right before and stayed clear the rest of the day.

OK, here's my funny story about humidity... I grew up in Michigan and we moved to California when I was 8, so I knew a little bit about actually having seasons (California only has 2 - Sun & Rain). DH was born in San Francisco & had never travelled much until I got my mitts on him.

With all that in mind, one year they had a pin event in WDW in *AUGUST* and DH wanted to go. I told him that Florida & August were not a great combination & that he wouldn't like it. He assured me that he'd be fine and besides, "how bad could it be?" We were there for 4 or 5 days, and he was miserable most of the time.

He now swears that he will never again travel to WDW in August.

That is what I told DH today!!! :rolleyes1 I really would prefer the fireworks at WDW. I do like the Kingdom the best for fireworks. Epcot does not thrill me like the fireworks over the castle!!:cheer2:

Illuminations is actually my favorite night time show. I know the fireworks are not as spectacular as Wishes, but I am always moved by the music that accompanies Illuminations & they way the choreograph the lasers & fireworks to the pounding of the music. It never gets old for me! :cloud9:

The Grand Floridian is out for this year:sad2: and Pop Century is in.:headache: I wonder how many days I could afford at Grand Floridain instead of Cat 5 on EBPC!!:lmao: :rotfl: :rotfl2:

Not only are we going on RCCL in August but we are staying at BWV for 12 nts following the cruise & I just booked another quick trip to WDW for the first week in Nov. to go to MNSSHP & the F&W for the first time ever. I said to DH, "Can we afford this?" and he replied, "Can we afford not to?" OMG he's worse than me if that's possible! Well in a way he's right, we bought APs & we are using points so we only need airfare (which I got for less than 1k) & spending money (which is the killer). The only problem is we could not get SSR for Nov. 1st so we are currently on a waiting list. We are already in debt up to our eyeballs, but hey we're living large! :rolleyes1

It's back to work for me! :confused3 Then Friday it's Salisbury, MD then Saturday it's Mt Airy, MD then Sunday it's Hagerstown, MD. That's to prepare for next Friday when we drive to Dallas/Oklahoma City for two weeks. :rolleyes1

Wow sounds busy Brack! Stay rested!

Two words - wonderful & expensive. We've been twice and the food is amazing. Some of the servings are small, but there's usually enough courses that I'm barely able to squeeze in the chocolate souffle (which is the only one I've had that's better than Palo's). My DH eats more, and the first time we ate there he skipped lunch & wanted to order a pizza afterwards :scared1:

You need to make your reservations several months in advance and just as the reservations open up if you want to eat at the Chef's table (in the kitchen - I've heard that it is amazing). Let me know if you have any specific questions.

I'm just wondering if I'll hype it up for the next 7 years or so & DH will hate it. He's not very adventurous & he hates fish unless it's very light tasting like Haddock.

Happy Independence Day!

Greetings from Colorado Springs!

So, I plan to stalk HC tomorrow...

We got here a day earlier than planned because the back window fell off my car in Nowhereville, Colorado. I'm not kidding

THE BACK WINDOW FELL OFF MY CAR!!!!

So right now, my back window is being held on with duct tape, rachet straps, and happy thoughts.

Sorry your window popped off, but thank goodness it didn't happen while you were driving! Stay safe!!!

May I ask which ship and sailing date is this? It sounds like a good deal - and some of you out there know how much my spouse and I love a deal! Not that we can make it - as we're travelin' August 1-15 already.... but my spouse did remind me we have a certain number of days vacation unallocated. And though we intend to use most of it to visit with family - we will probably sprinkle one little vacation in the year remaining to us.

It's Sovereign of the Seas & only a 3 nt cruise to Nassau & their private island, Cocoa Cay. It's one of RCCL's oldest ships, but they did a refurb which they actually televised a while back. There was a whole episode in which they were trying to repair the giant clock in the lobby or scrap the whole thing. Well guess what? It still works half the time! Anyway the rooms are teeny tiny so DH & I booked 2 connecting OV rooms so the kids can have their own room. If we wanted a balcony, we would've had to book a grand suite which would have cost over 3k compared to the $1400. we paid for 2 rooms. Just couldn't justify the cost for 3nts. :confused3

I'm envious like you wouldn't believe (I'd even take the rain in that heat) ! Its forecast for snow here tomorrow and my feet haven't warmed up all evening. Please email heat ASAP :lmao:

Brrrr Stay warm! Not looking forward to winter again! :sad2:

My apologies for anyone still waiting for a website account. I had intended to finish sending accounts to everyone who had requested one and mailed in all of their information on Tuesday, but then we had the discussions on who should have access, who should not have access, how much access should they have, who has killed who with axes, who has killed axes, and who is or is not acting like an axe, that I lost momentum. Yesterday was a family day, so I will try to get IDs out to those who have sent in all of their information and have requested an ID by the end of the week.

Please bear with me as I am doing this all alone right now until I can get to a point where others can help.

We're still trying to figure out the access to personal info bit and won't post any personal info until I have straightened that out.

Axe murderers...people who kill axes? You crack me up! :rotfl2:

Thanks again for all your hard work J. R.!

DD and family watched the fireworks from the roof of Shades Of Green last night. She said they were really nice but short! I guess she was expecting the 25 min they have in town at the fountain. Bostons looked great. Haven't gotten around to watching the Macy show in NY yet but that is always good.I rmember when DD was a baby my DH ran up to the roof of our apt to see the fireworks.Only prob was he got so engrossed in them by the time it was my turn they were practically over. It was like if you look between some buildings you can sort of see them.

Little overcast today. Hope we see some sun:goodvibes

I watched the Macy show on TV for the first time & then I said to DH...we've got to go see them some day! They were amazing! Three shows going off at once? Fantastic! I wonder if you can book a hotel across the river & watch from there? I don't think I would want to brave any huge crowds.

Both my girls and a friend were at that pin event and still talk about the heat. But, unforunately, during July and August (sometimes June and September too) you are usually going to get heat and humidity. The best bet is spending the afternoon either at the pool or napping. It gives you a chance to recover from the morning and get ready for evening park visits. Since we moved to Florida most of our trips are day trips and we really miss that break. We usually only stay over when the kids and grandkids are in town.

what is this website stuff about??

Shannon....J.R. has been working hard getting the website for our cruise up. It will have all of our planning info on it.....He will be sending you a PM soon, I'm sure.

How have you been? Have you been busy this summer with all of your daycare kids?

Hello,

I gotta hit the road any minute now - here are a few photos from this past weekend - Yosemite - one of the families that came with us - the Dad I've known since elementary school (about 35-39 years!)! Below are some sample pictures ... many of them do not do justice to actually seeing the vistas with your own eyes. OR rather, these little digital images are not high enough resolution here to be candy to the eyes as if you were there...

Below left this was one of the few times I've EVER seen a deer - let alone this close - I was shooting with a 35MM lense with on the DSLR convverted into a 53mm lense perspective which is near normal visison (IE, no magnification or wide angle distorting).

These photos belowwere taken in Miraposa GFrove with me kneeling on the ground and the buck walked slowly and calmly up to within 2-3 feet of ME!!! WOW!

Food & Wine is our favorite. Our daughter has a fall break at Lehigh and she springs for the either Boardwalk or Beach Club Villas for that trip. That way we can walk in and out of Epcot between sampling some great food and wine (and beer too). So, if you can either one of those resorts it makes the F & W so much easier. Other than that trip we usually go down for a day trip once a week during F & W. Each year I get DH a Disney gift card that you can use at all the food stands and it makes it alot easier than pulling out cash each time you need it. It seems like we have to increase the amount on the card each year and still end up adding more to it. But you can't beat not having to juggle the small plates and cups and your change at the same time.

We received a letter from Angelina's school a few weeks before school let out informing us that the Senior Portraits would be taken the week after school got out. Hazel and I both graduated from the same high school that Angelina attends and we both had our portraits taken by the end of June. It's nice to have them taken and paid for before the school year starts!!!

Ahhhh the mark of an East Coaster! :teeth:

I was floored when DW explained that her best friend and her brother were living in the house they were born in, or that her parents had been living in the same house since she was 2 months old! I think the longest time ever ever spent in one dwelling was 4 years and the longest time spent in the same town/zip code is 6 years! I guess when you're a military brat, you just expect the next change of station to be just around the corner. :hippie:

They are all booked solid unfortunately. That's what happens when you make these decisions at the last minute. I can't even get one night at my home resort of SSR so maybe if that wait list comes through, I can get on another one for BCVs but I doubt I have a chance. Thanks for the heads up about the gift card. I think that's a great idea! :thumbsup2

Well Diane, you still have a few more inches until you reach the top of your head. I say you're good.

:rotfl:

Happy 13th Birthday to my DD Taylor!!!

So true!!! My children will be graduating from the same high school my DH graduated from & my DB lives in the same house I grew up in! It's funny when I visit there I still call my old bedroom..."my room".

Here it is!

I think the same can be said for many of us in the midwest also. I was raised in the same house from the age of 1 year, until I left for college. My husband and I built our current house 13 years ago, and have no intention of moving until our kids are out of High School. We just love our community and school district, and I'm completely content.

Happy Independence Day!

Greetings from Colorado Springs!

So, I plan to stalk HC tomorrow...
just kidding (I wanted to see the frying pan smilie reserved just for me...)

We got here a day earlier than planned because the back window fell off my car in Nowhereville, Colorado. I'm not kidding

THE BACK WINDOW FELL OFF MY CAR!!!!

I don't have an ancient hunk of junk. I have a 3 year old Explorer. The tailgate can open 2 ways: the window pops up, or the entire tailgate door can pop up. Well, when we stopped for lunch, DH opened the back window to get something out of the car and it popped off one of the hinges. It was interesting getting it back in place since we had to colapse one of those hydrolic arm thingies. Not fun, especially in 98-degree-Nowhereville-Colorado- on-a-holiday. So right now, my back window is being held on with duct tape, rachet straps, and happy thoughts.

We pressed on to Colorado Springs with the hope of getting the car to a shop tomorrow morning. We planned to be here 2 days anyway, so we should be able to remain on whatever we have that resembles a schedule. We are going to rent a car and carry on with the fun stuff while the family truckster gets fixed.

These are the things memories are made of, right???

Lots of pages that I can't catch up with right now, but THANKS J.R. FOR THE WEB SITE! It looks great!

that's for your broken car

Not to worry, Colorado is SUV/4WD country! (Except Boulder, those Earth Crunchy freaks would slash your tires, Subarus are king there) So, there will be plenty of places to get your Explorer fixed. There are 2 Phil Long Ford dealerships and any number of smaller independent shops.

Since DH is probably road weary, I won't try to take him out to the base near Kansas (really, after you pass the cows, the pronghorns (antelope), the junkyard, landfill and motocross track, you hit the plains and then poof! a military base out in the middle of nowhere. If he's interested, I'll show you how to get there but I don't think I have escort privileges so I wouldn't be able to take him into the really cool restricted area.

If you're going to do the touristy stuff, DW and DSIL took the train to the top of Pikes Peak. They really liked it so you might enjoy the snow up there...a nice repast from the 90-or-so degree weather for the next few days. Though I'll take that over the reported 120 in Vegas...and we're going there in a few weeks!!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY

We've stayed at POP a few times & I think it's great. My only concern was the food court got a little too crowded at during peak dining hours. It was tough just grab a coffee some mornings with my refillable mug. My kids are happy no matter where we stay as long as it's WDW. They've never complained about any place. I've only complained at CBR & that's because our room was 20 miles from the food court. Okay well it seemed that way when I was staggering for my coffee. Can you tell coffee is important to me? :goodvibes

Yep I like the way DH thinks too. Did you ever see that old vitamin commercial? "I think I'll keep him!" ;)

I will miss a lot of chat! I wonder if I should bring the lap top? Nah I don't think DH will go for that! :rolleyes1

Thanks for the birthday wishes!
