This made me pause to reflect on something I was chatting about with old friends tonite. It seems we were sort talking about fancy weddings - how in one case there were 1600+ people attending one unusually extravegant wedding - < wow > .... and in another case the wedding was paid for by the kids and really quite modest. And then essentially - it boiled down to how there was a grand progression of there always being someone else who had greater wealth then so and so - and how behind everyone there always was someone else who had a little less.

Can you BELIEVE the money people spend on weddings today????? Joel110 and I paid for our wedding (that's what happens when you are almost 30 before you marry :goodvibes)......I think he and I both knew we'd spend more on "honeymoon" (memories and all that jazz) before paying 1000 on a wedding dress you wear once! What's worse is that SOOOOOO many of these expensive weddings do not result in a marriage that lasts more than 5 years......WOW......when you spend 10,000 on a wedding and only stay married 5 years you are obviously looking at 2,000 a year.....hum....that is about the cost of a DIS cruise....ahhhhhh.....I'll take the cruise :) :) :) :) :)

I totally agree! We spent about $3k on our wedding and paid for it ourselves. MIL offered to pay for the limo and flowers (LIMO??) There's no Limo place for like 2 hours from where we live :lmao: :lmao: As for flowers, we were married in the county's memorial rose garden and my sister made our bouquets out of silk flowers that were on clearance. I still have my bouquet! Then we spent a small fortune on the honeymoon - a month to Australia and New Zealand with 14 different hotels, 10 flights, 5 car rentals (including a 4WD), a train ride and a couple of ferries. Our registry was also very non-traditional. We basicly set up a website that listed every expense for our honeymoon and people would pay for "Breakfast and Lunch on the train" or different activities.

Good Morning everyone. Hope everyone has a good Sunday.

Gotta get the kids up and ready for church then I'm off to a Kenny Chesney concert later!!:cool1: :cool1:

When he sings 'Beer in Mexico' I will be thinking of TOAL!!

Happy Birthday to everyone I missed!!

We're off to play ball in the near 100 degrees :scared1:

Got through the storms fine, but we got a lot of rain. Over 5 inches now and it's not supposed to stop raining for a week :scared1: The only problem yesterday was that my phone died in the storm....Oh wait, that wasn't because of the storm, that was because of Cheryl  :lmao: :lmao:

You don't ever want to talk to me AND Cheryl!! :rotfl2: :rotfl2: One night talking to Cheryl my phone got HOT it was being used so long! :rotfl: :rotfl:

Good Sunday Morning everyone :surfweb: A few of the final pieces arrived yesterday including, Mickey cufflinks:

Now...if I could just find a red Mickey vest and bowtie for the 2nd formal evening.......

Andy

LOVE the cuff links!!!!

It's astounding isn't it???
When I was complaining to a good friend (about a yr or more ago before DD decided to get married in Cancun) that even a very *basic* nice wedding/reception was going to cost us way too much money. DH and I think that spending alot on a weddng is a waste of money. DD would have been happy with a reception at the K of C Hall, BBQ and music from her iPod :goodvibes Those were her exact woods to me and the look on her fiance's face was PRICELESS!!! :lmao: His family (read mother) would have been horrified!

After their reception (in Cancun) I was picking up the items that DD had asked me to make sure I brought back to my room for her and her now MIL came up to me and said *This wedding and reception were so much nicer then I expected.* :furious: :furious: She considers us *beneath* her. And she thought she was giving us a compliment! :confused3
SIL says that he doesn't know why his mom is like this now since he remembers when they lived in a cruddy 2 bdrm apt in KC :lmao:

I just wanted to pop in and say that waiting till the last day to pack for a week long business trip is never a good idea :rolleyes1 ARGH! And I actually should be making a mad dash to the mall to buy clothes not be on the disboards! LOL

:) I hope you got packed and also were able to find everything you needed!

That sounds like a perfect Sunday!!! ::yes::

The kids and I will be making DH's b-day cake and celebrating today since 17dd won't be here tomorrow. I htink tonight DH and at least 10DS if not all the kids are going to see Ironman.

I actually look for certain trailers or previews to make sure they are on the new released movies. I also do sneak peaks(a new movie to be released soon), audience reations to trailers, capacity checks, comprehensive checks(view movie to make sure it is a good print),check to see which version of a trailer is playing, handing out surveys and anything else the studios give me to do!!

Yesterday I hired people to view each print of Kung Fu Panda to make sure the quality was good. I did first shows(I had to make sure certain trailers were on the movie at the very first screens of the day, and I had to hand out surveys after certain screens!!!

Does any of this make sense??:confused3 :confused3

Oh my goodness. No wonder you were talking about movies being on multi screens the other day! Sounds like fun,but a lot of work too! Do you always go to the same theatre?

Good morning everyone!

Quick posting...off to breakfast with my sister before she heads back home and then off to church. Later today is DD Girl Scout Cookie evnt..we finally get to see Prince Caspian.

Have a great day!

That sounds awesome - how do you get a job like that? Seriously I am looking for something extra to supplement our income - feel free to pm me

As to your question on the luggage - not 100% sure but I think what will happen is that they will take the 1 bag that is allowed and check it in for you. The other bags will go into the customs area which you would have to retrieve yourself

It took me 5 years to find my job!!!::yes:: ::yes::

The real reason for doing DCL transfers is to not have to lug around another suitcase and go through customs with it!!! We want the easy way and just handle our carryons. I think quite a few people will considering cancelling the transfers if it is altered from the way it was promised. I am grandfathered in to checking 2 bags per person and that is what I expect to do!! Not mad at you just I have a feeling this is not going to be hassle free!!!:headache: :headache:

I have made a few calls on this and I'll make some more tomorrow (the department I need is closed on the weekends) because I'm getting conflicting information. I think eventually this is the way it will happen, but so many people are grandfathered in or can pay online in advance, it will be interesting to see how they handle it in the meantime. When United first was charging for the second bag, I called them and they said nothing will change. United might say they are charging for the second bag, but we will still be accepting two bags. Now they are saying one bag from people taking certain airlines. We've got lots of time for this to change many, many more times and I will stay on top of the changes from DCL.

Oh wait it takes two to talk!!:rotfl: :rotfl:

Thanks Tracy on trying to keep on top of the mess!!!:worship: :worship:

Sounds like the secret shopping that I do.

Wow we average about 12 inches of precip per YEAR. And it's better here than other parts of the state since I live in the mountains!

I don't do secret shopping as I hate spying on people.:( I would hate to see somone get fired because of something I reported. Mine is out in the open and the mangement is aware of what I am doing at all times!!

You don't ever want to talk to me AND Cheryl!! :rotfl2: :rotfl2: One night talking to Cheryl my phone got HOT it was being used so long! :rotfl: :rotfl:

It's astounding isn't it???

I was telling Tracy wait til she meets you!!!! :rotfl: :rotfl: I have met my match!!!::yes:: ::yes::

Oh my goodness. No wonder you were tlking about movies being on multi screens the other day! Sounds like fun,but a lot of work too! Do you always go to the same theatre?

Yes.... I have two theatres that are assigned to just me....a 30 screen theatre and a 20 screen theatre.:rolleyes1 The money is not always great but I made a small fortune Friday!!:woohoo: :woohoo: The benefit is getting to see all the movies.:thumbsup2

Last night we had another wonderful meet with our fellow DISers. This really is getting exciting having two in two weeks. Last night Stacey's family (Justmestace), Chris's family (Grandma X3), Desiree's family (A litle Pixie Dust) and our family. We had dinner at the Acapulco restaurant at the port since Stacey will be leaving on the Magic today. Everyone had a great time but alas we just did not have enough time to talk as much as we wished.

Attention people of the Midwest!!!

Details of a mini meet on July 12th will be announced by Pamela(pdarrah) later today!!!:woohoo: :woohoo: :dance3: :dance3: :yay: :yay: popcorn::

Midwest Mini Meet

Hi Everyone! Here is the plan...

On July 12th, about 30 miles due West of Chicago we are going to have a Mini Meet. My little town has a festival called Railroad Days (because we were the first railway junction in Illinois) On Saturday the 12th there will be a pretty good fireworks display (not Disney of course, but better than many town's 4th of July fireworks!). There is also the usual festival type stuff like a carnival, entertainment (mostly bands, some dance groups and local stuff), a small art show, a beer garden and food. The headliner concert after the fireworks is Micky Dolenz from the Monkeys.

Last year, Cheryl & John and their family came for the fireworks and we all had a great time. We thought it would be fun to invite any who would like to come this year! DH (Dan) and I are going to host a small cookout at our house before we head over to the park for the festival and fireworks. The cookout will start at 4:00 - but it will be very casual so that those who are driving in don't feel like they need to be there right on time. Come when you can and we'll throw something on the grill when you arrive! Sometime around 7pm or 8pm, we'll head over to the park (about 1 mile from my house) and stake out a spot for the fireworks. Then anyone who wants to check out the festival can do that and those who just want to sit and chat can save our spot. The fireworks are usually around 9:30pm, but I haven't seen an official time yet. The area at the park where you can see the fireworks is really large, so it never feels all that crowded.

If you are interested, send a PM to either me (pdarrah) or to Cheryl (micmse2003) and we will send all the details on exactly where/when/how this is planned!

Pamela
