I am the queen of 90%. I swear I have Adult Attention Deficit Disorder.
Some examples: Bill and I went to Maui. We get the rental car and as we are leaving the airport he asks which way to turn to get to the hotel. I say "How am I supposed to know? I have never been here". This is followed by him yelling "You have been reading about this place for 6 months but you do not know where to go!!". :lmao: I did redeem myself when we went to Hana and I managed to find Charles Lindberg's "hidden" grave. :thumbsup2

But, the best was when we spent 2 weeks going through CA. We used to have a beach house in San Diego. Bill was there so I flew from Dallas and I had meticulous plans for the full 2 weeks.
We left SD and hit all tourist stuff along the way I had it timed perfectly that we could go through the deluxe tour of the San Simeon Hearst Castle etc. Then we went to Carmel later that day and had a great relaxing dinner at Clint Eastwood's Hogs Breath Inn. Then....... Bill says "Where are we staying tonight?". I look at him like a deer in the headlights and said "I don't know". Did I mention this was Memorial Weekend???? We spent the next 4 hours stopping at every single hotel and no vacancies. The most scenic 5 miles in USA?? Who knows, we passed them in complete darkness. The worst part was I could hear the waves lapping the beach in places but it was PITCH BLACK! Have I mentioned I HATE water? Scares the crud out of me. To hear it and not be able to see it was particularly harrowing!
about the 15th hotel we stop at gave us great advice. They said the only room we were going to find was at the SF airport. Sure enough, they had openings. The good news was we were not supposed to be in SF until the next day so we got a jump on things. The rest of the trip was perfect.

Sooo.... I am stressing about the 10% I am not thinking about for this trip. I will probably forget shoes or bathing suits or something like that. :)

But you had Santa!!!;)

My poor DD6 never got to see Santa. We were in line to see him (the line stretching from the lobby all the way back to the bar) and my daughter wasn't looking too good. We realized she was extremely warm. We asked her if she wanted to see Santa (which she had been talking about for a while) or go lie down and she said 'lie down'. So I took her to the room, gave her some Children's Tylenol and turned on a movie. We thought there would be another chance for her to see Santa and get her gift, but there wasn't. She never mentioned it though. She woke up a few hours later and was racing around the ship again. Kids are amazing that way.

I did not hear the news tonight....what happened???:confused3
You will be missed!!!::yes::

By now you've probably heard a tornado hit a Scout camp in Iowa. I left a word out of my post -- I meant to say it was a very sad night for Scouters. I e-mailed with our Scoutmaster last night and we agreed we need to go over our emergency plan again. We have some very-level headed boys and then we have some, like my DS11, who would be out taking pictures of the tornado.

I thought when I asked about it a while ago, they said it was optional to put the "from" info on the FE gifts. I've heard that some people do and some don't.

I also sent Bellinus a PM to join the FE, but haven't heard anything back yet... :confused3

Julie (Bellinus) is away at the moment - I think she is getting back today sometime

You know I cannot imagine how you prepare for something with that force. Very sad.
I know every 3rd summer we have our family reunion on a lake in Iowa in little cabins. We would be sitting ducks. I remember a couple of years ago we were watching the satellite very carefully one night as there were some major storms fairly close by.

I have never met her but had a chance to meet him..kind of..I was at a Julian Lennon concert...way back when..and sitting next to me was Donny..(now..I am not really a celebrity gusher..but I had to say something!) I told him I had always had fun watching his and Marie's show. He mumbled something...and turned I back. Next someone comes up gushing about him and asks for an autograph...he was really rude and told them he doesn't do autographs! I was really shocked at the tone. Anyways..I always remembered that. A few years ago..I was reading a book he wrote and he talked about during that time frame (not specifically the concert) he was suffering from anxiety and kind of just "disappeared" for a bit. I kind of understood after that (not that I think he should have been rude but I understand anxiety and wanting to be kind of left alone).

Still..I would love to see them...

DH was the student manager at the theater where we went to college. Donny & Marie had a show there for which DH was pretty much in charge of all the stage setup and such. To this day, he REALLY dislikes Donny and thinks Marie is great! Donny started causing trouble the moment they arrived at the airport - he hopped into a car with a fan/friend and dissappeared. He failed to show up for his sound checks and that type of stuff. When he did show up, he was rude and demanding. One thing he insisted on was climbing up on the school's steinway to dance and jump around - DH insisted on changing out the top to an older one! Marie, on the other hand, showed up as expected, was pleased with the arrangements and pleasant to everyone. This was around 1987.

yes, it was dangerous- but instead of doing something about THEM and THEIR behavior- she basically punished my daughter by not using her as a topper hardly ever the last part of the year. 2 other girls ended up being toppers after that (it was the 3 of them with Ruby doing the "new" stuff or any stunts that needed only one topper) and by the end of the year they were doing all sorts of things she never got to do. All because the "popular girls" did not like holding her up and threatened her and dropped her a few times. I wanted her to do something about those girls or switch Ruby to the other bases that another girl was using so she wasn't with them- she solved the problem by just not having Ruby as at topper and those girls not having to be bases either. totally stunk IMO..... what she did was the only thing she could do if she refused to do something about those girls, I suppose. because that last time when they dropped her and she almost fell headfirst on the gym floor I was ready to spit nails and say she couldn't be a topper anymore anyway. But really I think she should have done what she SAID she was gonna do NEXT year (she said this at their tryouts parent meeting at the end of the year) which was to discipline THEM and if they can't act right- off the squad then!
They were all a clique- all knew one another all their lives, all friends, their moms and dads were friends, all went to gymnastics together, all popular, etc. Ruby didn't even know most of their NAMES (and the ones she knew the names was only vaguely- not like she talked to them before or something)- and she isn't one of those "popular kids" (primarily because I don't let her dress like that, wear makeup when they were younger, don't let her date yet, etc. like they all do) -so they pretty much ostracized her the entire year.... and the coach let them then punished her when they were risking her injury and did nothing to them for their behavior! *sigh*

I know it won't change anything, but if it were me I'd be writing letters to the principle and school board about the situation. Pretty much along the lines of letting them know about a dangerous situation. If this coach is that swayed by "popular" and possibly parent's opinions, then even having made the announcment - if a similar situation arises, she may act in the same way again. Although your daughter won't be involved, someone else's daughter will be. Actually, your letter might even carry more weight because you aren't asking for anything or really have any vested interest - it's more to let them know about it.

I am always surprised by how much more response you get when you put things in writing. I have had conversations about issues in the past and nothing much seems to happen, but as soon as I write a letter someone usually takes notice!

I heard it on the news about 1 am. How tragic and horrible for the families. Seems like there should have been a more efficient plan to notify those per parents.:( Not knowing is the longest wait of a lifetime.:worried: :worried:

The first trip I allowed my DD to do with her Scout Troop was to camp right off of Golf near Woodfield. You guessed it....a tornado hit in the woods there and shookup the girls really bad. A few girls got some minor burns when the campfire was flying all around. All the tents came down and several trees were down. That was her last camping trip I ever let her go on.

I'm not sure the best of emergency plans would have helped in this situation. Its always good to review the plans and exercise them to be sure you know how to implement, but they seemed to do everything according to "the book" (at least as far as the news coverage goes).

I think the Scouts deserve a lot of credit for the first aid and rescue they performed.

As my DS10 is just embarking on his Boy Scout experience, I was terrified, saddened and proud of what I saw in the reports.

Check out this trip report.:scared1: :scared1:

Wow, how scary. I'm never going on a big trip wthout trip insurance. You're right he does have a great attitude about it:thumbsup2

OK...later on TONIGHT.. i will provide list with

DISNAME (if none shown i will type part of the email address but not whole thing)
#of CABINS

and total for CAPT's dining at least. Our # be over 200 at this point but we have not filled the dining room.

and then let me know if any changes will be needed.

I think i do have you Laurie...
Thanks Kristina:banana:
I know it will be a really long list, but would hate to leave someone out by accident (especially me;) )
Really looking forward to having dinner with everyone:woohoo:

In order of preperation:

Hotel reservations pre-cruise in LA
Cameras, memory, batteries etc.
Specality clothes - tux accessories, t-****, swimsuits, diveskins
Cabin decorations - Magnets, Fish Extenders (and gifts)
Regular clothes - won't decide until late July (will see how diet works out)

As for the cost......as this is the TOAL. I don't expect to do this for a number of years (if ever again) and will amortize the cost appropriately. We dont' want to look back on this and say "If I'd just.....", as a rsult I expect the Amex card to take a severe beating once onboard pirate:

Andy
Andy, my DH was saying the same thing about the cost. He doesn't want to go crazy spending, but he doesn't want to "nickle and dime" it either. It will be a while before we do something this big again.

Coral, I'm the same way. Even with lists I forget things. Who puts their winter coat on a list in December:lmao: We left our winter coats in NY after a Christmas visit:headache:
Left the baby formula at home, left meds at home, (all on different trips).
Yes, I'm pretty sure our whole family has ADD. Thought I remember reading that more adults are getting diagnosed along with their kids:laughing:

Just don't forget underwear for the trip. Some one posted on the main boards that she forgot to pack underwear for her DH and that was the one thing she could not find on the ship:rolleyes1

I'm sure others here have forgotten important things while packing/traveling.

It's raining again... Actually, pouring...:worried: :worried:

Anybody got directions to build an arc :rolleyes1

I'm only on page 188 but, I wanted to thatnk everyone for the prayers. We stilld on't know anything....they did bloodwork, MRI, upper GI and something else last night (before 10pm -- that was when dh left & his brother got there for the night).
I talked to dh a little bit ago (he went back up to the hospital early this morning) and the Dr still hasn't come by so, no answers yet.....

When we know something I'll let y'all know.

Thank you, again!

Stephanie, I hope all is going well. I just got on to catch the last few pages.

Welcome to anyone new. Happy Birthday to anyone I've missed and prayers to all who need it. I am ready to get in full planning mode now that the family visit is over.

No way I am going to ketchup, so I hope I didn't miss anything important. I have ordered my ts****, lanyards and bracelets. I have my dining linked and am on the list for FE gifts. (I can't find the latest list, how many cabins are we up to?) I was gone for a week and feel like I missing a month's worth of planning. I got my magnetic paper before I left last week and hope to work on my signs this weekend. I shouldn't even be on here as I am still not caught up at work...I had 320 emails in my inbox!

Would love to hear how you're handling these last two months of preparation

I have not done anything except buy a few items from the pharmacy section at WM! All this talk about getting things done is making me nervous. I better get my toosh in gear!:moped: :scared1:

So far, in the last month my kids last day of school has been
Tues. 6/17 @ 3:30
Friday 6/13 @ 3:30
Monday 6/16 @ 11:20

I have no freeking idea when school ends and I gave up caring about a week ago.

:rotfl2: :rotfl2: That is so weird! What is up with the school district? :confused3 :confused3

Too bad you weren't in SoCal. Dh and I spent a lovely evening sleeping at the Del Mar Polo Grounds - in our car. We drove from Seward, AK to San Diego, camping along the way when we moved there. It was just us and the dog, so we could "wing it". Well....we were going to stay with a friend while we were house hunting, but we got in a day early and couldn't get ahold of him (pre-cellphone!), so we decided to camp for the night. Now is about the time I should mention that it was the Friday of 4th of July weekend! There wasn't a campground, hotel room, anything, available in all of SoCal. We even tried to talk the guy who owned the pizza place where we stopped for dinner into letting us pitch our tent in the restaurants yard! No go. We finally resigned ourselves to sleeping in the car...just about the time we saw a sign for the Del Mar Polo Grounds. We figured if we had to sleep in the car, we would do it in style! We still talk about the night we spent at the Polo Grounds. :snooty:

ITA. It sounds like everyone did the right thing. Sometimes even doing everything right ends tragically.

...unlike 4 scout leaders raising a metal pole under an electricity wire...no less tragic, but geez.

I'm sure others here have forgotten important things while packing/traveling.

Swabbies here would be fine. Speedo can double as underwear.

Come to thing of it, DH had 3 pairs of boxers from Panama that cost us something like $45 after the airlines lost his luggage one of his Central/South America trips. Underwear was the least of his concerns at the time - airline had also lost an ion scan machine, radios, guns, etc. that they had to check on the plane!

We should have. We had a Grand Cherokee at the time so it was doable. Instead we had the pleasure of spending $175.00 for 4 hours in a hotel. :faint:

Yes, but are you on our lists?

ATTN PIRATES: JUST BECAUSE YOU ARE LINKED TO SOMEONE SHOWN ON OUR LISTS DOES NOT MEAN THAT YOU WILL BE SEATED WITH OUR GROUP.

IN FACT THIS WILL CAUSE THE ONES THAT DID EMAIL ME OR CHERYL TO BE PULLED OUT OF OUR ROTATION.

I would so kill... *** (and GS camps start on Monday)
