Don't tell me what kind of day to have . . . oh, um, you did say a good Tuesday, huh? Oh. In that case, you, too! :thumbsup2

We used to have this manager that would sign every single email with a liteny of adjectives:
"Have a wonderful, stupendous, fantastic day everyone!!!"
It used to drive me crazy.
I have to say I am really, ecstatic, thrilled, stupendisly happy she decided to find another job. :rotfl2:

Lorri....do you know if the Wii is in OQ? I'm also hoping OQ has Guitar Hero. Does anyone know? TIA!

Deanna, what I heard is that they have placed it "through out the ship". I would bet that if it isn't in OC yet, it will be by the time they do the age group switches.

We should have gone with black, but we were thought the olive with tan leather trim that we chose would be easy to spot at the baggage turnstyle.

I always go to the craft store and buy a roll of the most "out there/obnoxious" ribbon and attach one or more of them onto all of our carry ons and checked bags.. I've never seen someone whose had the same ribbon yet.... (i've had dog print/bright red with polka dot/tye dye in the past...)

BTW everyone... My mother has now claimed twice that airport security has hid bags from her and that this caused her to leave them at the security checkpoint. DH and i have a habit of counting everything we have before we go through and then afterwards. (Usually only our shoes go through seperately. I don't think they'd be keeping those.;) ) I put all my rings/belts/etc either in my shoe or in the bag i'm carrying.

If my Mother would do this and listen to me. :sad2: She wouldn't have had any problems....

That is a good idea. Maybe I will do this so all of my luggage matches a little better. All with the same tacky ribbon! :rotfl:

We bought new luggage a few years ago, and never bothered to measure the really large case until shortly before our first flight with them. Stupid, I know. Anyway, it turns out the really large case is considered oversized by just a few inches. We didn't want to take the chance of bringing it because it would most likely be overweight as well, so we'd have to pay oversized and overweight charges. Might as well pay for another person to fly!

So, needless to say, we only use the really large case when we are driving somewhere on vacation. And....we never match in an airport. Oh well! Nothing we can do about it now, as the color has been discontinued.

I guess I don't really care all that much if my luggage matches, though. My clothes rarely do! LOL!

http://www.amazon.com/Thule-7001-Pack-Cargo-Bags/dp/B000GT519A/ref=pd_bxgy_sg_text_b

We discovered these bags when we went on our family trip to Yellowstone. We just love them. They fit a ton of stuff, they are soft, so they fit any shape. They can be stuffed, smashed, smooshed, whatever we want. I can STUFF them full of clothes and we haven't gone over the weight limit ever. (I used to do that all the time with my large suitcases.)

They have great handles AND a shoulder strap, but alas, no wheels. They work perfect for our travel needs, since we always use curbside check in or rent a little cart for $2 at the airport. The bellman love them (I asked because I wondered if we could make them part of our regular suitcase needs). AND, most importantly for us, they can survive our family! We are very very tough on our luggage and it usually only lasts us 2 years or so. But these seem to be able to handle EVERYTHING we throw at them. Also, they are easy to hide once you get to the room. (We usually stuff them under the bed or on the top shelf in the closet.)

We still take along 1 or 2 "regular" suitcases to handle more odd shaped or fragile things such as sand toys, medicines, and bathroom neccessities. And of course a wardrobe for suits etc. But, if you are looking for something to supplement your suitcase selection, I highly recommend these.

Oh, and about matching suitcases...if you see a large family with completely mismatched luggage, that will be us! We have a purple set that my daughter got for a school trip to DC, 2 different mickey mouse sets (one red and one a wierd greenish color), some random black ones, a forest green large one and the 4 colors of the Thule set referenced above. We keep whatever survives our last vacation and just replace with whatever whim I may have that month. So, we are a mess! In fact, one of our biggest travel pasttimes is watching people stare at us as we make our way through airports and especially security! (They typically open a special lane for us...not kidding either! We are the business travelers nightmare). And Steph5, you will probably appreciate this...When the kids were a little younger and we would get to security, I would have a plan. The kids knew exactly what to do as well. But we ALWAYS have people offering to help us. Now bless their souls, I really appreciate the thought, BUT, it usually makes more trouble than its worth. I have random people stuffing our things through the x ray machine, people trying to help the kids with their shoes, complete strangers opening my laptop for me. It is so dang funny, but so stressful at the same time.

We have rules, we stand back, get everything ready, then the kids go one at a time. They know they have to leave the security check point with whatever they had when they entered. But when you have very kind people helping and shoving the wrong things to the wrong kids, it gets well...confusing!

I am sure I have painted a very vivid picture of our travel adventures. Anyone want to join us on our next trip? Father Mike, are you sure you don't want to tag along on our shuttle from DL to the Port. Come on now, we cant be that bad!!! :scared1: :scared1: :scared1:

age breakdowns are as follows:

Oceaneer Club will continue to be the home base for the 3 to 7 year old
children.
Oceaneer Lab is used for children 8 to 10 years of age.
Ocean Quest will be used for the 11 to 13 year olds.
The Stack will be reserved for teens 14 to 17 years of age.

As long as they do not change their policy of aging-up kids who are nearing their bday this works out well. It would not be a good idea to have my DS9 and my DD10 (she will turn 11 on the cruise) in the same age group. Having said this, I would prefer her to be with 10-12 year olds instead of 11-13 year olds.

Has anyone ever tried these:

queasypops.jpg

I may have to pick some up and give them a try. I'm thinking the Mad Tea Party at DL will make a good proving ground.

Any idea where they can be purchased?

Allright! Confession time...I saw that the first season of Love Boat had come out and I bought it immediately! We have watched the first 5 episodes! All of us, even the teens. We get in full cheezy mode and laugh loudly along with the laugh track. It is a blast. I can't even believe that the kids will actually watch it along with me. The clothes, the dancing styles, the hair...makes some really goofy dorky fun!

That sounds like a lot of fun. I still remember spending my Friday nights watching the Love Boat followed by Fantasy Island.

Why don't you come on the "Pirate Bus"? There is already 150 of us on that. PM me if you are interested. I guess I should start referring to it as Buses as we have way too many people for one bus and we're possibly working on a third bus depending on numbers......
Thank you - I was getting worried when I saw all of the posts regarding transfers from DL to the port that perhaps the "Pirate Bus" was no longer an option.

My DD10 turns 11 on August 19th. (Cabo day!)

I was not allowed to watch Fantasy Island...too adult my parents said. But I snuck and watched it sometimes anyway! Too funny! What great memories! :)

GREAT! She has 2 teen brothers, so she is used to the boys! Are you guys going to DL beforehand? We will be get to DL starting 8/13. Staying at the DL hotel.

We haven't made any arrangements...yet. Originally we were going to be there early - so dh could show us where he lived, played hockey, went to school, etc.... but, we really want to go to WDW for a few days afterwards, too......

For the first almost 4 yrs of his life 10ds lived with only sisters -- his brother was away at college. With 3 sisters you learn how to get along with girls! LOL!

My DD10 turns 11 on August 19th. (Cabo day!)
My DD will turn 11 on August 28th (Aruba Day). I let her choose the port excursion for that day. It helps to make up for the fact that her bday is in the summer when none of her friends are around.

UGH, sometimes this Mom stuff really stinks :headache: My oldest DS has been told that he is dangerously close to NOT coming on the TOAL with us. He's a smart kid, just ZERO motivation, scatterbrained and super laid back. He's dropped letter grades on his report cards because he "loses" or "doesn't remember" his homework. He actually sits down every night and DOES the silly work ... but then can't be bothered to turn it in.

Lately, he's been "stretching the truth" regarding his work and his homework. He's always been a really good kid and never given DH and I any real reason to doubt what he's telling us ... that is until NOW  I got a note from a teacher last night ... or should I say I FOUND the note in his backpack, he "forgot" to give it to me. He's failing Reading because he's missing 3 of 9 assignments that he told DH and I that he did at school and just turned in late :sad2:

We laid down the law and made it clear in no uncertain terms ... that we are MORE than willing to take his cousin and leave his sorry self back home if he continues down this path. He's only 11 for crying out loud

Lorri....do you know if the Wii is in OQ? I'm also hoping OQ has Guitar Hero. Does anyone know? TIA!

They had Guitar Hero in the Lab on the Wonder last August. Not sure which system though - kids have left for school so can't ask them.

DOH!!!!!!! I was going to suggest an evening picnic at Gravely... (DH loves it there and room for the kids to run around) but 6 may be a little late. (5 would be better)

If it is close-ish to us, I might be able to make 5-5:30 and have DH & kids join us a bit later. DS9 has a baseball game that should end at about 5.

Tysons Corner is fine with me & probably a bit more central for everyone. I have no idea what is around there, though.

Ummmm, like Satan Bacon?

yup

I'm guessing that by now, most of you know me well enough to know what I think about that.

You take off your rings for security? I wear quite a bit of jewlery and I've never set it off. 4 rings, watch, bracelet, necklace and 2 sets of earrings.

You guys are cracking me up with the matching luggage discussion. DH is packing his sea bag! Maybe I'll get him a pretty tie-dyed bow for it. :)
Most of our stuff is red because I like red.

I was not allowed to watch Fantasy Island...too adult my parents said. But I snuck and watched it sometimes anyway! Too funny! What great memories! :)

I had a running deal with my babysitter. My parents wanted me to go to bed after Love Boat because I wasn't allowed to watch Fantasy Island either. She would let me stay up to watch FI if I would run up to bed as soon as my parents pulled into the driveway.

So your choices are scopalamine patch (can be sedating with dry mouth), Dramamine (dimenhydrinate) which causes sedation, Antivert/Dramamine Non-Drowsy (meclozine) probably the best choice with less sedation. Would not hurt to take along a couple of doses of Zofran ODT. I would recommend the ginger just because it is cheap and without side effects. It should be started 24 hours before departure. Hope this helps.

I use the patch and carry a bottle of water with me everywhere. ;) I think that is one of the reasons that I lost 10lbs on the 10nt cruise..... I don't want to lose any wieght on this cruise!

You know it must be something about that age - DS11 also started on a downward spiral with grades. It isn't that he can't do the work he just doesn't want to try. His teacher and I have started email communication instead of notes because some of the notes never made it to me. Now he knows he can't fool around with that anymore because of the emails. Also we have started a signature program for every homework assignment meaning that his teacher signs it and watches him put it in his backpack then when he comes home I sign it after it is completed.

I also email his teacher each evening letting her know what assignments I signed so that she knows it was completed and if he got rid of something somewhere along the way we know about it within a day instead of two weeks later

This has really helped a lot along with the threat that he will not come on the TOAL if his grades slip again.

3 words: rolling duffle bag.

I bought 2 at Costco for about $25/each and they seem pretty sturdy, light, and big. I'm checking those and a rolling garment bag for the fancy clothes when the kids and I fly. DH is flying seperately and checking his sea bag. I can fit all of our folding clothes and shoes in that puppy.

That is what I was thinking of getting for 17dd & 28ds for their trip to Korea/Austrailia (WOrld Youth Day) this summer.
I saw them at Costco the other day.......

DH has this thing about having matching suitcases! UGH!

Count me in as another mother of an 11 year old who does the homework but does not turn it in. Drives me insane! You do the work- why not get credit for it?
I picked up some colored sticky tabs that have the teachers name on it so she knows it it has a tab it needs to be turned in to someone.
My only goal now is to just get her through this year and hope she matures a whole lot this summer.

We do the same thing. I think out ou our 10 suitcases/garment bags that we take, we may have 2 or 3 pairs that match each other but nothing else. We just add some obnoxious ribbon and viola!-a matching set. The current version is this awful fuzzy neon green yarn.

Any idea where they can be purchased?

I saw them online at Walgreens.com, so I'm going to stop in and see if they actually carry them. I'm also going to see if I can special order them in at the pharmacy when I go to work tomorrow.

When Porky's was first on HBO, my parents decided that my brother and I were too young to watch it, so we had to go to bed. We snuck back down, and hid under the Christmas platform so we could watch it. (The platform was 8X8 and took up most of the living room. It went right to the door to the dining room, so we were able to crawl in unseen.) Anyway, we got to a really funny part, and I was trying not to laugh, but I lifted my head up pretty quickly. I hit it off the tip of a nail that was poking through from holding down the train tracks. My brother had his hand over my mouth so tight that I couldn't breathe, let alone yell out in pain. So we got away with it, but it was a painful experience.
