Found this on the internet;

http://www.aafp.org/afp/20050601/2095.html

A lot of useful info (probably more than most folk need). I was surprised by the recommendation for probiotics as a preventve measure. That should be pretty easy to do.

Just be careful with the Imodium if symptoms are really bad.

Here's some info from the CDC website http://www.cdc.gov/ncidod/dbmd/diseaseinfo/travelersdiarrhea_g.htm :

"When should antimotility agents not be used to treat travelers' diarrhea?

Antimotility agents (loperamide, diphenoxylate, and paregoric) primarily reduce diarrhea by slowing transit time in the gut, and, thus, allows more time for absorption. Some persons believe diarrhea is the body's defense mechanism to minimize contact time between gut pathogens and intestinal mucosa. In several studies, antimotility agents have been useful in treating travelers' diarrhea by decreasing the duration of diarrhea. However, these agents should not be used by travelers with fever or bloody diarrhea, because they can increase the severity of disease by delaying clearance of causative organisms. Because antimotility agents are now available over the counter, their injudicious use is of concern. Adverse complications (toxic megacolon, sepsis, and disseminated intravascular coagulation) have been reported as a result of using these medications to treat diarrhea."

Thanks Todd. That's what I'm hoping. I've been scanning the internet and I think if he prepares himself this summer he should be ok by the time August rolls around.

Your welcome ,

When Melissa and I are in Cozumel its one of the things we make sure we take during breakfast , it really helps to equalize easier when we descend on our dive's for the day , especially if we have had lots of rum(tequila) the night before ..LOL

Thanks Mike.
I knew there were some cases where you didn't want to use the OTC drugs, but wasn't sure when.
What about the probiotics ? I know that they aren't sure what dosage would give protection, but it seems like a good idea to take probiotics anyway ?

I don't have a lot of info about probiotics, but I'll look it up when I go to work tomorrow. There aren't a lot of controlled studies to back them up, but there is a lot of anecdotal evidence that they work. Some people swear by them. We sell a brand called Flora Q for around $39 for 30 capsules. I would think if they weren't doing anything for them, they wouldn't come back for more at that price. (And there are other less expensive probiotics too). One thing I do remember hearing to is to start slowly, since they are altering your GI flora (good vs bad bacteria), and can cause gas, bloating, and cramping when you start. If you go this route, I would suggest starting before the TOAL. If I find out anything else regarding doses, best strains, etc, I'll let you know.

Just wanted to stop in and say hi - I got on the cruise right before the holidays - one of those flukes when it said they had availablity. Looking forward to it. I am traveling solo - so looking forward to meeting some of you. I already have my flight to LAX on 8/15, hotel at Disneyland, my park tickets for Saturday, and flight back to SFO on 9/1! YIPPIE!

Happy to have ya with us!!

Sorry to burst people's bubble and all.

No unwrapped Mints!!! You never where the previous hands have been :scared1:

I am!

So here is an update.....

The number just came up again..so I answered....
Very nicely I said "I do not wish to participate and answer your questions,I am on the do not call list and want you to remove my name from you call list...I do not expect to have any more calls from your company. Thank you have a good night"

Not a minute later my phone rang again...it was them!:headache:
I picked up and said hello....no reply..but i heard background noise...
I said "I just told you I was NOT interested and NOT to call again and you call right back! I hope this is being recorded..I find your practices of persistent calling and harrassment intolerable!Do NOT call me again!".....I hear CLICK!

ARRRGGGH!

Chrissie

Chrissie, did you enroll your # with the do not call list???? I still get calls every now and then but it really helped. This is the link I used

Julie, loved the pics of your girls. Looked like they were having fun.

Paula, the Yankees were giving out autographs but he was unable to manuever down to the front. I had to drop him off and go park the car. Had I known at the time I probably could've tried. We had seats in the top. They had a really super pre game presentation by the Armed Services. Rangers (I believe) jumped out of a plane and landed on the field. I wasn't prepared for the jet fighter who buzzed the field a bit after of would've gotten a pic as well. It was so loud, it shook the stands. WOW !!! Sky diver right in front of us

They played the Univ of South Florida. The poor kids were getting beat so bad. 3 up, 3 out etc.. The families were sitting behind and all around us.(loud) and finally, they got lucky. They had bases loaded and lo and behold a grand slam. Sad it was the only runs they made, but the families were ecstatic. Glad for them:thumbsup2 We left at the 7th inning. It was 4 and we needed to get out of Tampa before rush hour. I don't think we will be making that trip again. The stadium was really super. But too far. 107 miles from us.But Rich got his fix for a while :lmao: We then had dinner at Applebees and the service was so bad, We didn't say a thing but when she brought us the check, the waitress actually had the mgr come over to apologize and when he saw Richs Yankee garb, he comped us for the meal. The service was so so bad. I guess she knew it as half the meal never made it to the table. At least she got a tip.I was so tired I never made it to chat. Just wanted to go to sleep at 10............

Cheryl What I meant by TracFone was I have a prepaid cellphone and that's the name of the company that I get my minutes from. I don't use it enough to justify having the monthly bill. I get a 400 minute card,$99,lasts for a year and I never use it all.

Now as I was telling the kids in chat, we went shopping at Sam's last night. We picked up that collapsible, soft side cooler for $24.88 and 2 sets of cheap, Body Glove snorkle sets for CC day at $40 a set. You should be able to see mine a mile away...it's shocking pink!

Thanks Mike. The IPhone does not allowed downloading ringtones so there is some huge add way to get around it but I am pretty convinced I would just mess it and my phone up. I am going to look into it.

I am going to check out Mike's link to see what I can find out about IPhones. I think it is so odd that that the IPhone that is supposed to be new technology, cannot even allow customized downloads. :confused3

My motorola phone doesn't have the "save as ringtone" option so I can't get it either! :sad2:

I'm not reading them! :scared:

My dad sent me those links becasus I always ask for extra lemon in my tea.
Although I am known to be quite the germ freak, I prefer to ignore the lemon stories. After all what's a little fecal matter in your drink?

La la la la! I can't hear you!

Seems they avoiding answering the double ship ressies issue, so we all have confidence it will all be ok on the night.

Its best to drink bottled water from the Magic and not eat on land unless its on a DCL shore trip and then see what you think as you look at it.

True we ate at Mexican Buffet in Cozumel at a DCL excursion & no ill effects. :thumbsup2

My Mom went to Cancun and came home sick.
My sister, Julie, spent the day in PV during a Carnival cruise and loved it. She found PV to be charming and loved just wandering around. She and her friend made reservations at an upscale restaurant in PV and she raved about the food. She promised to get the name of the restaurant for me next time we chat. My sister didn't get sick. She's a bit more sensible than the rest of my family:rolleyes1

My sister got a staff infection in the Dominican. She cut her hand on some exercise equipment. Guess that could've happened anywhere. :confused3

Thanks everyone . . . this is the only time I have ever had two in the same production due to age differences and requirements, although they all enjoy being in them (well, my oldest has decided she doesn't now, but she did in middle school) . . .

I thought everyone would like these pictures because of the pirate aspect! I didn't post pictures of my middle daughter when she was Charlotte in Charlotte's web earlier this school year, and now hearing of everyone's arachnophobia it turns out to have been a good decision! (Although she was actually in a shimmery evening gown rather than a spider suit, I am happy to say.)

Roger, we saw the Cathy Rigby farewell tour of Peter Pan, too . . . you were so lucky to get to meet her.

I would like to see the Charlotte Web pics too!

Hook and Peter in their final swordfight . . . my 10 year old can be seen just behind Peter, sitting down.

Great pics! The both look wonderful! Must've been a lot of fun seeing them both in the production.

I have an Iphone.....and there is software that will allow you to have custom ringtones. Every time Apple does a software upgrade.........you have to start over..........but it works !!! You can always pay itunes for ringtones...........but if I already have the song...etc... Why do I want to give them more money ???? :scared1:

I thought I saw there were some Yankees fans who did a Dis-meet last year. I need some help. I booked $10 airline tickets on Skybus to NY for DW and I in June to see the Reds series versus the Yankees. Single game tickets went on sale yesterday, but they were sold-out within a few minutes. I'm sure I can do e-bay/ticket broker or wait until closer to the game because I know that teams retain tickets for potential season ticket sales that are often released later, but thought I'd see if there's any other suggestions. I was looking at either Sat. June 21 or Sun. June 22nd.

I need some advice from experienced divers.

My DH has some ear sensitivity issues. He had many ear infections as a kid, tubes put in and ear drum burst. Now he finds that his ears bother him on planes and when he goes under water too deep. He wants to do the minisub in Cabo though. Which supposedly doesn't go down as far as diving. Is there anything he can do to relieve the pressure so that he can do this ? On airplanes he holds his nose and tries to get his ears to pop, but you can't do this on the minisub:confused3 Do decongestants help ?

He's prepared to go to the doctor to try and find something to help-that's how bad he wants to do this:rolleyes:

What about earplugs? I got the Earplanes brand one time for my son to try. I thought they were going to be something different, but they were just earplugs. The theory is to wear them the entire time and they pressue will never have a chance to grow. Unfortunately for us, my son refused to wear them until after he was feeling the pressure, so it didn't work.

Thanks Mike:thumbsup2 We get quite a few patent applications for probiotics at the patent office (my office-mate examined the patent for Activia) and that is probably the reason for the high prices. You would know better than I about the strains or doses:goodvibes

I'm not reading them! :scared:

Sorry about your sis. Wish we could schedule illness around our vacations:sad2: I'm not going hours and hours without eating at the ports, but I am going to be careful where and what I eat just in case:confused3

I checked on the web and came up with this:

I think we will try them in the pool this summer to see if they work for him:confused3

dear bellelinus, it was a real treat & thanks for sharing [i ran out
of time..the other day...* evident by lack of editing..:rolleyes1 ].

..however,i always been a fan of the "arts"...& really enjoyed your
pics.., the pics made it clear...they sure put on an outstanding show.

:thumbsup2 ..& you every right to be proud. [ i would be!} wanta
kno..what they reminded me of ?..the lil'production from anne of
green gables.

..funny, when my wife was first watching the first series..& asked me
if i wanted?..i told her..i had no time...for a "kiddie show"..then she
said...its about a orphan...that gets into trouble...all the time...
like you! , my wife..has this knack..of influencing others,:rolleyes1

..the cow..scene..just about....killed me..with :lmao: oh, the triple-dog
scene..walking the shed roof.

ahhhhh golidis~locks meet cpt. hook! "wicked" but all sooo cute! wonder
if the swabbies noticed..how well she handled the sword..fighting,
maybe you won't need bodyguards after all? & maybe she could give a
demo?..now who could play..the vict..errrrrrr, vol..crash?

oh, so what did ever happended...after they had kids...she had 2
ornery teenagers..that would never get up for school. well, if you
read the story...you kno..how anne felt about school!..so one morning,
she had had enough. hold & behold...she flipped 2 firecrackers between
their beds...no problem after that, :teacher:

dear m&m mom:...the reviews....were significant..in not only revealing
where areas of "care" breaking down...but how easy they could/
should have been prevented. :flower3:

* we heard @ work..that the school where the shooting took place,
is going to tear down the bld.. while we can understand..the grief,
:flower3:  , howver-

we believe, this is the not the best action to be doing. [ the bld. isn't
where the focus..point..should be . prevention measures..should be
focusing on human behaviors..warning of pending acting out. soooo
observing for loss of self controls...are things we are looking at.
fyi..when a person make a fist..it is the time to take action..esp.,
if its drawn back. so when i see , first thing is to recognized it.]
the only time i ever been striked..is after..someone already in the
acting out...mode. however, if i can there before, in 17 years..i have
never been hit...isn't that intersting...just be recognzing..."what"
that intention means.

..oh, regarding the refer, of placing...nrsg home pts., in our ward.
one interesting..thing...is how well they respond..in doing their
self care...[way beyond their previous levels]. fyi, last night my
staff came & got me..we have 2 tv's but one broken...so this
ex-marine..was cursing anyone attempting to the tv....even staff.
..i went right up , explained what i was going to do....& asked
him "permission"..he said.."sure go ahead." ..i reminded staff , we
must alter..our approach..from acute pysch ..to...long term
approaches...& that isn't as easy as one might think. h,he,he ..
this lil'guy..he come to me all the time..whenever..he thinks someone
getting a ll'off the charts.

want sterotype..that is offfensive to us?..watched t-2, sarah in the
mental facility. look..at the bodybuilders..having clubs 2 feet long...
let see...i'm 5-8, 60 lbs, & the rest of my crew are females,
none breaking...5'4".....how many..incidents...do we need..before
we start recognizing..mental health..is for everyone? & it is
a part of life..for happiness. ps, again..but worth repesting..
the very best we can do...is to show others..how they can help
themselves. overwhelming...very easy, in~deeds! :)

Attention!
Shopaholic Wenches ...
& Shopaholic CrossDressing Swabbies...

Here is a photo-log of my spouses' Task Force Macy 2-29-2008 findings with prices/values as of last nite...
< and she is NOT fully pictured as she demanded I NOT post her full photo on account of her incomplete make up, hair prep and so on... however, I still think she is the most beautiful wench to grace the 7 seas (that's with or without make up and "hair doing")
... and I usually prefer her "naturally" without the makeup an' stuff!

Yeah... from my POV, $62 for .... snow boots ... in sunny Southern California... :confused3

SO all told, Alicia sez she only spent about $135.80 for $772 in goods (plus she saved sales tax on 636.20 = about $50 alone!) for a total of 82.4% off ... so these things above represent 90% of her purchases yesterday. Overall... I think these dresses and boots look much much better in real life then in the photos. Go figure? :goodvibes

OK... we're off for the day to attend an old friends' Birthday party where our kids will probably run amok for hours on end. Somewhere in the day my spouse and I will slip away to go Macy hopping a couple hours ... probably hitting the Torrence, Santa Monica Place & possibly the Fox Hills Macy stores.

Question for those who set up DID ID's for their kids:

Who did you email to get their accounts activated?

I set up my 3 kids each with an ID, but I need to give my permission so the DIS will activate them. My oldest just read the kids thread and wants to post, so I guess I'll let him do it under my name for now.
