8/17/08 Captain Jack's Repossession Repo Cruise to PC thru TPC #15 /Life After the PC

All of you that had headphones in Cartagena, were you on the Best of Cartagena or the Historical Walking tour? We were on the Best and didn't get headphones.

Yes, it was the Best of Cartegena.

I wish I had the patience to home school:rolleyes:
I can barely handle the homework:rolleyes1

After 3rd grade I had to rely on my genius mother. I was lost.

So glad to hear she is doing well! I am sorry you had to leave the ship tho. Thanks for the chicken..we thought it was hysterical!

I got in trouble with the man with the sloth...earlier in the day we saw a different one and he wanted $1 for a picture..DD did not want a picture...so later we saw another man with a sloth and she said she wanted a picture by him by did not want to hold the sloth...so I said no problem..we told the gentleman what we wanted and took the picture..I tried to give him $2 for being so nice about holding onto the sloth near Tori..he got angry and said it was $5! :scared1: I felt bad but seriously only had $3 on me..we didn't take much in with us and only bought a couple of things..he tossed my money back at me and said $5 again..I told him I only had $3 and tried to give it to him...I thought he was going to throw the sloth at me :confused3 He finally took the $3 and I felt bad and it was my fault not to check first but I really thought it was only $1 or $2 as everyone else that day had been only a couple of dollars.....so...no more pictures for us! I practically ran to the bus.

The 1st encounter w/ Sloth-Man was in the shopping center by Mr. Emerald's office. I had read about Sloth-Man on CC so I was not surprised to see him. My youngest Miranda is a HUGE animal lover so she held the sloth. I got out the camera to take a picture and my $. I tried to give him a 1 $ bill and he said "$5 DOLLARS"! I told him I only had $3 and he ripped the sloth out of Miranda's hands and it grabbed her hair and pulled it hard. I was not happy.
When we got back on the bus and went to LaPopa our driver told us there was a Sloth-Man there and it was only $1 to take pictures there. We did and he was great! We ended up giving him $3 he was so nice. We also gave Donkey-Man $1 and Miranda rode the decorated donkey/mule/burro kind of thing.

I wonder if there's any truth to the rumor that after drydock the Laundry rooms will be run by Vista Spa. They realized that the rooms are hotter and more humid than their existing saunas, and that they can therefore charge more. I hear it will be $95 for a half hour session in the laundry room, including one wash and two dryer cycles. A special couples package for $180 will include an hour, two washes and enough dryer cycles to actually dry your clothes....

:lmao: :lmao: :lmao: :lmao:

we were on the walking tour and had headphones.. Dh really loved them and you could hear the guide..

Hi All!!!!

First day back to work today :sad2: and it was very long. It just is not fair that we have to go back to work after having the times of our lives. What really got to me today was that I had to go back to work and did not have a future vacation planned to look forward too. :scared1: Will October 7th ever get here so I can make some decisions on future plans. I really miss all of you. People here and at work just can't grasp the concept of vacationing with 500 friends that you met online. :confused3 Cherie has been yelling at me that I have been spending too much time going through pictures, but then find her looking at them too. We spent the weekend in San Francisco for a family wedding which was nice but not really a vacation. We really did not have a lot of time to do anything fun while we were there but it was nice to see family. I am bu** tired tonight and really need to go to bed. I will try to catch up tomorrow.

PS

Coral, the family really misses you!! Madison out of the blue the other night said Bill had broken a serious law. I asked what did he do that was so bad. She responded "He removed Coral from Castaway Cay and brought it back on the ship." :lmao: Can you feel the love?

OMG! That is hysterical!:lmao:
We all had SSOOOO fun with your family. Y'all are just gems!
I still contend Madison is an exceptional 13 year old. I was very impressed with her maturity.
I sure hope we can cruise together again or at least see each other again.

Coral - I am sorry we didn't get to meet up I was looking forward to meeting you. I probably passed by you a zillion times but didn't know it was you

Roger - I agree on Madison she was a doll. I didn't have a whole lot of interaction with her but the times I saw her around she always said hello and was very pleasant

I was almost SICK when I saw the sloth!!! All I could think of (as I saw one of Jack's girls holding one of them) was *How many deseases does that animal have? Lice? other creatures?* :scared1:
I was totally skeeved by it!
Yeah, I was a little worried about the sloth and had a mixed (wow-cool/eww-gross) initial reaction to it. But I was pleasantly surprised by how gentle the animal was when he sat in Kelly's arms:confused3
But you're right, probably better to avoid contact with animals in a foreign country (especially when you can't be sure of their health status)

I gotta go to bed. I am still sickish. I wish I could get rid of the Disney crud.

I have my doctor appointment tomorrow for my foot. I hope it is healed enough so I do not need surgery.

I am in major cruise withdrawal. I have a dummy date booked for Dec. 2009, but do not know when I will cruise again.

Hope all of you are doing well.
A whole bunch of us have that dummy date. I'm hoping another big cruise comes up that we can all make again:cloud9: Yes, I'm fantasizing, but it helps with the cruise withdrawal:lmao:

Hope your foot appointment goes well and that you feel better soon:hug:

How cool was that??? What great memories for all of you!!!
Very cool, especially since it was spring training for the NY baseball teams in Florida:thumbsup2 My Dad was a sports writer and covered the Mets and the Yankees.

This is our 20th school year of homeschooling........ Believe me I'm not that special! LOL! Some of my kids do/have done very well academically and a couple do *ok*. They are very individual children. :)
I disagree, I think we all think you are special:hug:

But you are right, some kids just do better academically regardless. Funny thing is that it doesn't predict who will do well career wise necessarily. Both my brothers had problems with school and both are doing well job wise:confused3

You and Cheryl! LOL! John and I kept telling Cheryl *No eye contact. Don't ask them any questions.*
Steph it was so funny. There is my 11 year old DD "protecting" me from the locals, lecturing ME, "Don't look Mom !!!" and telling the locals "We're not interested, no thank you". Sometimes she acts like she's 40 and sometimes like she's 2:rolleyes:

I'm glad you're better -- I was down on Frida. I missed the Toby Keith concert/Limo ride with my friends that I had planned. :sad2:

I knew you *volunteered* for the rumage sale!! :yay:

I have plans for WDW the end of next Sept, first part of Oct...... I know it's a yr away but, a girl can dream.

Are you threatening people now? :rotfl2:

pixiedust:
Were you front at RBD? I think I saw you and tried to introduce myself a couple of times but, you didn't hear me....so, I let it go. :) Because then I wondered *Did she not hear me or is she ignoring me?*

Since that happened with several people on the cruise I stopped trying to introduce myself to people..... ;) I decided *I have my name tag/lanyard on. If they want to meet me I hope they introduce themselves.*
Steph, I think a number of us are hard of hearing and that may have been a factor:laughing: I saw Becky twice, but both times she was traveling in the opposite direction I was and we were pressed for time:sad2: I kept telling myself the next time I see her I'll introduce myself, but I was out of luck:rolleyes:

Coral - I am sorry we didn't get to meet up I was looking forward to meeting you. I probably passed by you a zillion times but didn't know it was you

Roger - I agree on Madison she was a doll. I didn't have a whole lot of interaction with her but the times I saw her around she always said hello and was very pleasant

I was surprised how many people I did not meet. I just thought over 2 weeks I would run into everyone. I was looking forward to meeting you too! :sad1:

I hope you post a pictures here or at the smug site, I am curious to see if you were one of the people I saw all the time on my travels around the ship.

Hi Everyone!

Long day today - Monday is the day I get DS9 after school (my mom takes Tuesday and my neighbor handles Wed-Fri :thumbsup2 ) and getting his homework finished and cooking dinner was majorly stressful. This is the first time I've cooked since we got home (DH grilled a couple times & we've had take-out! :lmao: ) and of course someone came to the door right after I put a couple chopped onions into my largest pot with some oil (making chilli). By the time I got back to the kitchen I had seriously burned onion and spent the next hour trying to get the pot cleaned out since it is the only one large enough for chilli! DS9 was being a pain about getting going on his homework and actually spent over an hour doing a single math worksheet that should have taken about 10 minutes. WHY doesn't he get the concept that if he just DID it, he would have more free time to play?

Choir practice started tonight, so right after dinner DH & I had to leave and just got home about 20 minutes ago. We haven't had a practice since last May (we don't have choir over the summer) so aren't used to it anymore.

JR - Another BIG THANK YOU for the website. It was wonderful of you to keep it for us even after you weren't going anymore! :thumbsup2 :)
I agree that chat is the thing we most miss. The other thing that I miss is the Pirate list with everyones names & photos - I'm terrible with names/faces and really relied on that. I don't suppose there is any way to post it somewhere for just a day or so? I should have saved a copy sooner!

Cartegena - We loved our day there! I did a bunch of shopping at street-vendor stalls. DH bought a couple maracas and another instrument from one of the guys walking around. Everyone we dealt with was willing to bargain. We have traveled to Mexico a lot, so we felt that the street vendors were fairly "normal" in their agressivness. If we aren't interested, we avoid eye-contact, say "No, gracias" and keep walking - we didn't have anyone continue to try and sell to us. If we are interested, we stop and look over the merchandise and bargain for a reasable price. We don't usually try and go for rock bottom - for example, I was looking at a couple necklaces that started at $10 each. DH first offered $10 for the pair and we settled at $15 for the pair. Every vendor we spoke with was surprisingly fluent in English. Not really into posed photos with animals, fruit ladies, etc so we just avoided them. We also are willing to tell "white lies" in these situations. We told several fruit ladies that we already had taken a photo with someone else!

Pamela

Hey Pamela:yay:

It was our first trip to Mexico so our first experience with the street vendors as well. It was hard because we were pressed for time and that made it hard to check things out without appearing too interested:confused3 Plus DH's weakness is a low tolerance for the sales push:confused3 He always prefers that I go shopping without him;)

We're also having trouble getting back into the swing of things at home:rolleyes:
But it's getting easier;)

Back home from my monthly home-school parent meeting....

No one expected me to show..they were all shocked when I made it! :rotfl2: If I had known I had a pass..i would have taken it.

Someone was giving a talk tonight and explained that some days...when she just couldn't face a day of teaching..she would tell her child...Today..I'm going crazy...want to come along?

I loved it! I think I will adopt it as my stress-out day motto!

She said they would forget the books and go do something fun instead....so I informed my DD that tomorrow..I was going crazy and she could come along..no school:banana: (she was heartbroken I tell ya!)
:lmao: :lmao: :lmao:

Hi Jennifer, have been meaning to send you an email to see how your mom was doing. We really missed you at the scavenger hunt and really wanted to thank you for the goodies :thumbsup2 . We had some stiff competition with Aly and AJ autographs but still had a good turn-out.
Jennifer,
I just realized why I couldn't find your posts when I searched. I left out the underline between Maine Jennifer:headache:
I've got some great pics of your Mom and Dad from dinner:thumbsup2
I'll post them when I get a chance.

Hi Gang,

I'm back from the 5 day - and I was sick for most of that cruise and am stiff sick - fever - resipiratory - deep chest cough - yuk!!

AND - I had quite an adventure getting home on Mon - 1st delayed in Orlando by weather - then - finally went Jet Blue to NY/JFK - and not too late - so we're on board Jet Blue to SFO - and taxi out - and then they announce that we must go back as the Captain has food poisoning!!! Okay - long - long story short we are now delayed 2 hours to get a new captain - and finally get off the ground on the way to San Francisco. However, my plan was to take an Airporter over to where I live and have DH Paul pick me up - Except - I was getting in so late that my poor DH had to drive all the way to SFO to get me. I figured that I ended up traveling for almost 20 hours!!!

I've been trying to catch up while I've been in bed recuuperating but I gave up and decided to just jump in and say hi!!

Gosh - It was so great to meet so many of "our dis family" - and I'm so sad that I missed meeting more of our "dis family"!!

Love to all

Het Chris:yay:
Sorry you're not feeling well too:hug:
Glad you made it home ok, but 20 hours:scared: what a pain:sad2:
Glad the pilot didn't get food poisoning mid-flight:rolleyes:

and on another note: I wish i knew which kiddos you guys are talking about (and who that one girl is that I asked about in a previous post). I need pictures next to the names so I know who everyone is talking about! LOL

We both got asked "So how did that go, with those people you met online?" They have no concept, and were pretty shocked at howmuch better we feel the cruise was because of the people that we travelled with.

Mike,
Darren was really shocked how well it went with the Dis group. He met you and Linda and a few others before hand at Dis meets, but he was not prepared for the group in general:laughing:
He was just saying he wished we signed up for more things and participated more:eek: This from the guy that previously thought I was overscheduling and overplanning:lmao:
His favorite excursion was the Jolly Pirate in Aruba and this group was the main reason for that:thumbsup2

You and Cheryl! LOL! John and I kept telling Cheryl *No eye contact. Don't ask them any questions.*

I know I was bad but I really like to see all the great stuff I was missing. :thumbsup2 I was so mad at John when I finally got the one peddler down to 5 Necklaces for $10 and the bus driver closed the door.

I'm glad you're better -- I was down on Frida. I missed the Toby Keith concert/Limo ride with my friends that I had planned. :

I hope you are feeling better.

I knew you *volunteered* for the rumage sale!! :yay: Actually I did volunteer but I did not know they waited for me to show all the other volunteers what to do.

Are you threatening people now? :rotfl2:

You are getting a threat too. Be prepared to talk next week. :rolleyes1

No news on the strike. There isn't even any negotiating scheduled. Some people are saying it could go a couple months. Last strike was 24 days, the one before that was 69 days.

I sure hope the strike ends really soon. You could start saving for the next TOAL.

Hi Everyone!
Cheryl - I am sorry that you have been so ill! Call me sometime - I need a dose of DIS friend chatter! I've had a bit of a cold, but nothing as bad as you and John.

Jennifer - I'm glad your mom is doing OK. I was so sorry to hear that you had to leave the cruise.

Pamela

No rest for the wicked but boy did I sleep. I hope you are feeling better too! Looks like I have a busy scedule nest week calling people.

It is hard for some people to believe how attached a person could feel from just meeting over the internet.;) I know if you lived near me ........Cherie and I would be great friends but at least we can be friends from afar. Who know...maybe you can even stay with us in Florida when we build down there:thumbsup2

Oh no.. I hope you are feeling better now and if not- I hope you feel better soon!

Thanks BIP.:flower3: DCL sure knows how to do things in a big way by giving half of our group the Crud!!!:lmao:

Hard to explain...........isn't it Mike!!!

I was surprised how many people I did not meet. I just thought over 2 weeks I would run into everyone. I was looking forward to meeting you too! :sad1:

That was our favorite too! What a fun group!
I credit the group that day with 2 things. One was I was shocked when I was putting my fins on that Miranda was just taking off on her own. She had snorkled once when we were in Aruba when she was 3 but it was really rough seas and she did not like it.
Secondly- I was actually in the water! I HATE water!!! I have been to a lot of the hot snorkel places in the world and refused to get in the water.
I actually had fun. I would never have done that had it not been with a big group of friends. Thanks guys!! :thumbsup2

Christian on the last nights performance was mentioning how much fun the cruise was and he specifically mentioned meeting friends from the internet for the 1st time. :thumbsup2 We all cheered.

Is anyone else having trouble with Photobucket????:confused3 :confused3 I tried the old way and the new way to up load pictures and it just did nothing???

I will try later but could someone else try or is it must my computer.:confused3 :confused3

Off to rumage sale now.:headache:

I was surprised how many people I did not meet. I just thought over 2 weeks I would run into everyone. I was looking forward to meeting you too! :sad1:
I wish I had met more people and done more group things. I'm pretty shy when it comes to meeting people and lots of times will just smile at someone and wait for a reaction. I did meet quite a few wonderful DIS'rs though. I know Andrew met and interacted with quite a few people.

I just tried to put your photo Of Ducky into photobucket but won't let me. I will try later today.:flower3:

Morning all! I so want to be back on the Magic with y'all! We could all help out at dry dock! :lmao:

DH probably can..... Me...never. ;)

This tells me that both of you weren't listening at our FIRST stop when he told us what channel to set it to! :rotfl2: The lady was on the other channel. ;)
Tina just remember what I told Cheryl -- NO Eye contact! LOL! Do not ask them any questions and NO eye contact! :rotfl2:

Coral, saying you *pushed* her is putting it nicely! :rotfl: I don't think the poor girl even knew what was going on!

Tina and I were both on channel 3 but the range was bad on our unless you were very close to the guide. It kind of came and went. We could hear him crackle off and on but not well enough. We heard the other lady and sure enough, she'd be coming up right behind us. I think their equipment was lacking.

Steph, what Coral said! LOL! It didn't seem to make a difference. When I heard the lady she was always coming up right behind us.

I got it on my door but before I could sign it, it had moved on.

I didn't move it. I'm innocent ( well as innocent as you can be at my age!)

Don't forget the man with the Sloth!!

Oh yeah. OK the traveling menagerie of odd things/animals!

This is Kristina's DD, Devon!!! Ijust have to say.... "hahahahahahahahaha!!!" at this quote!!

Hey Devon! How is school going? Kaitlin misses you!

Hi all,
Does anybody have any photos of the Scout Patch Swap and Badge work? I would like to submit a story with pictures to the local council.

I am so bad! I was supposed to take pictures as my Council wants some and I forgot my camera that day so if anyone has some..espicially the group photo..I would really appreciate it too.

I did take some pics. I think they were only in the lounge, not Diversions. Will try to upload them to the site tonight or tomorrow.

It is hard trying to explain to the people I work with that I felt that I was among friends. They would tease me about my "internet" friends. Even Kaitlin understands it now too. She was the worst about it! :lmao: I know that running into and hanging with everyone made this the most awesome vacation I've ever had!

Jennifer, glad you mom is Ok. Sorry you had to leave early. Love the rubber chicken!

Desiree, glad you and Tori are home safe and sound.
