8/17/08 Captain Jack's Repossession Repo Cruise to PC thru TPC #15 /Life After the PC

No where near the Gulf Coast . . . and yet . . .

Hey folks, kindly keep all of us in Northwest Indiana in your prayers.

You would not think that a hurricane would do in the Chicagoland area, but that is exactly what happened this past weekend.

The remnants of Hurricane Ike went through our country and as it dumped rain in Northwest Indiana all day Saturday and Sunday, rivers, creeks, ponds, and lakes all flooded.

The town I live in had to evacuate thousands of people from their homes. Some homes are almost completely under water. Businesses along the main street are submerged. The busiest highway for truck traffic in the nation (I 80/94) has been closed for two days and there is really no re-open date in sight.

http://www.thetimesonline.com

Keep all the affected people in your prayers, please.

At least we did not get the knock-out punch. Originally, the forecast called for 30 mile and hour sustained winds for Sunday night. If they would have come, the trees would not have been able to stand since they are in completely saturated ground and that would have caused massive power outages as well.

Schools are closed, nursing homes and clinics have had to be evacuated. It is a real mess.

Remember us!

Thanks.
Keeping you all in my thoughts and prayers. Kathryn was writing an article for her school/class newspaper on Ike, she was amazed that people in Ohio, Indiana and areas were having damage.

yes that is her! Wow she's famous now. I knew her when...... LOL

Hey, spent the day at the hospital today... just thought I'd share our good news. We have a new baby in the family! My sister had her baby... finally a girl and she's doing great- after a short scare of breathing issues! (long story short- my sister has had a lot of miscarriages and one premature birth- he died after just over an hour from birth :sad1: With this pregnancy she developed polhydramnios... which I had with all 3 of my kids but this was the first for her- and they had to take Chloe out 3 weeks early... and one of her sons she had a week early ended up in NICU for a week with breathing issues- so we were worried but she's doing great! Her only other daughter is almost 12yrs old- all boys after that... so very excited when the sonograms showed finally another girl. And this is the last grandbaby for my parents... all us girls are "fixed" now (me and my sisters)! She had a tubal ligation with the c-section. So do you think the "baby" of the family might end up a WEE bit spoiled? not like all our other children aren't spoiled too though LOL)

Please welcome Chloe Jean to the world.... don't hate her because she's beautiful! hehe

Just had to share...
She's so teensy compared to my sister's other babies (her husband is 6'5 and all her kids were over 9lbs and over 21.5 inches long) -Chloe was only 7lbs 12oz and 18.5 inches! (exactly the same as Ruby was born, btw. LOL) She's a doll baby... lots of hair (very UNLIKE Ruby LOL) and nursing like a champ already. :)
she's adorable! I love she already has an outfit with her name on it!

Reenie,

I remember you telling us about your 5k at the PJ breakfast! Congratulations on finishing, and for having the guts to do it in the first place! Way to go!

Thank you very much.. It was a struggle.. but i did it..

Doreen:

congrats on the 5K!!!:wizard: My DH did the Bud run too on Saturday! We are just down the road in Radisson!

we had the wind last night too - I was up between 2 and 3 watching the trees bending - couldn't sleep through i!. Luckily the only damage was just inside our tree line!

:)

Are you in B'ville schools? My son goes to Ludden but we are part of CNS schools..Its so funny that we are doing the same things at home but never met one another onthe 2 week cruise..lol :sad2:

When we got off in Cartegena the cameras were rolling and flashes were going off so I made a note to check out the local papers when we got home. I just had the chance to do that and have found some articles from our visit there. :) Does anyone recognize these people?

ctg_soc_visita_del_disney_magic7.jpg

The entire article and more pictures are here Magic in Cartegena

thats so cool.. I wish I could understand it better.. but i think I get the jist of it.

Opps I spoke to soon. Thanks for the translations.
Joisey mom, you made the papers in COLUMBIA no less.. how much better can you get..lol Now lets hope they dont hang your pic in their post office..lol

Shelley she is so beautiful.. I am sure you are a proud Auntie as well... Its so nice buying girls clothes vs boys clothes.. All my best for the family.

3145 homes still without power in my area from the storms. My prayers to all that are in danger and without their homes and belongings.. I just lost trees and yard ornaments,...And some of my potted plants up rooted and were in my neighbors yard. When I went for a walk in the afternoon.,, I saw more of my pots down about 6 houses.
today its about 56*. big difference from 90 on sunday.

Can't wait until we get the snow storms.. gotta love those N'easters..

have to go to weight watchers tonight.. a bit scared.. Last week I lost 6.5 I am sure it was all the water gain on the cruise that left my body.. And I cant wear summer clothes with this temp..bbbrrrr.:santa: ..lol
Fr Mike prayers to your area as well. My mom used to live in Evansville, so we heard how bad it is there..

Keeping you all in my thoughts and prayers. Kathryn was writing an article for her school/class newspaper on Ike, she was amazed that people in Ohio, Indiana and areas were having damage.

On the news last night they said that the last time we had this much rainfall was 138 years ago.

It was an amazing storm.

To think that it took over a week to get from the Bahamas, through the Gulf of Mexico, to Texas and yet it took only two days to sweep from Texas northeast to New York. And the path that it has left behind in many ways and forms is going to make this storm one to be remembered for a long time.

Sadly, that seems to be what's happening with our global weather. These kinds of storms are getting more and more common.

Just had to share some fun mail that we got from DCL yesterday!

As most of you know, my DH and I got food poisoning (or something) and were put in isolation for 48 hours on the cruise. When we got home, my DH sent an email to DCL customer service asking them to point us in the right direction for contacting the travel insurance people. Not surprisingly, it took them a few days to get back to us and in the meantime, I figured it all out and started the claim paperwork. But the email from DCL said that they were truly sorry that we got sick and that their "executive team would be contacting us soon via traditional mail." Yesterday it came!

We got a letter of apology that we got sick AND a 25% off "coupons" for each of us to use on a future cruise! The coupons say that we can use them in conjunction with other offers too, so that means we get the 10% off since we booked a dummy cruise on board AND we get 25% off AND we get the OBC AND....we'll see! YAY DCL!!!! Oh and we're also getting our $$ back for the 2 days we were in isolation. :yay: :yay:

I'd say it's proving to be worth our while to have told DCL we were sick since we wouldn't have gone and done anything those 2 days anyway. :cool1:

Please let them know that we were all with you those 2 days and to forward coupons to us!

Cool for you!

I'm still looking for you on a tabloid cover with your best bud Aly (or was it AJ?)

Quick question for those with more cruising experience....
I'm looking at booking a surprise cruise for DH and I, for our 25th anniversary (5/5/09) I was initialing looking at booking in early-mid may (with Caropooh) until my newly engaged DS told me the wedding is going to be 5/16 and I felt bad asking him to change his wedding.......LOL

So now I'm torn between the 4/25/09 Eastern with DCL's first time in Tortola or the 5/2/09 Western. We have not done either of those on DCL....so I'm curious if one is more fabulous then the other and why?

We'll see what we can do about those coupons for everyone else! :) I've been looking at tabloids and searching on the internet for the pictures. Guess none of us got pictures since I haven't seen any up on SmugMug. Oh well! I did get a few at CC when they were right by us, but I'm not sitting next to Aly and chatting in them. :)

In your bikini doing the, how did you put it, suck in, push out and don't breathe? LOL :lmao:

Well, for my two cents and for what its worth. I would do the Tortola cruise. Cozamel is not my favorite. It is dirtier in some places. it did remind me of PV or Cabo near the docks. Never have been to the EASTERN so that is my plan next and I think the rum factory will be a great excursion.. Not that I am a boozer.. but I think the waters will be so nice..What is the difference in prices as well. That may make a difference too. Also, more people may do the Tortola since it is new...

Hi Everyone!

I was off the DIS for a few days and just finished "ketchup". It was a bunch of pages, but nothing like a couple months ago ;)

We had massive rain over the weekend (I think Cheryl and Fr. Mike have already written about it) with 7 inches just on Saturday and a few more on Sunday. I live near the TOP of a hill and we still ended up with a little water in our basement. This only happens when the ground is completely saturated and the water starts to seep through our limestone foundation. (the joys of a 100 year old house :rotfl2: )

I've made some progress on the unpacking, but I still have 1 partial suitcase of stuff I haven't put away.

Not having a Disney trip planned is really weird. This is the first time in years I didn't have something concrete planned coming up. We were hoping to get to WDW the 1st weekend in November since DS9 has 4 days off school, but the airfare just isn't working out and it isn't worth it if we are going to pay $750 just for the 3 of us to fly plus hotel and passes (we all would need new APs or at least park hoppers). Maybe I should start planning a good LONG trip down there for June....

I stalled a bit on getting my photos uploaded. I've been busy at work and at home, so processing photos has been put on the back burner ... I'll try to get back to it soon. My next batch to do is Puerto Vallarta.

I would be more caught up on this stuff, but on Sunday the rain was getting me down and after I prepped about 50 tomatos for freezing all morning - I took a break. Unfortunately, I decided to play one of DH & DS's video games which I've never had a chance to try before - SimCity 4. I can tell you that it is VERY addictive and 5 HOURS of my day just disappeared! :lmao:

We've never done the Western (but we want to). We did the Eastern a couple years ago, and it was probably our second best vacation after the TOAL. We did the Doubloon snorkeling excursion in St. Thomas. It was a lot of fun and we had a blast!

Maybe you can check out the excursions offered for both cruises, and see if anything really jumps out at you as a "must do".

:goodvibes Thanks everyone who replied.. I think she's purty too! I love her so much- it's always amazing how you can love someone SOOO much who's only been here for a day. hehe

SDhoneymooner- were you next to Aly & AJ at the end of family beach at CC? Just curious. I took some photos (played paparazzi for a bit...was over there for the rugby game LOL) of them, not sure if you're in them though. I can check! I didn't see them talking to anyone at that time though- so it might be a different time of day than you're talking about. I only took photos for a minute or two then back to the rugby game then we all hightailed it outta there shortly after the rugby game.

 Tom, do you often hang out with young girls in bikinis?

:yay: :yay: Although I am sorry that you weren't well for 2 days of hte trip!

Ugh. My DH was thrilled that the formal nights were almost 2 weeks apart. He didn't want to shave at all, but had to in uniform. We compromise on a goatee, since I can't stand the whole scruffy beard thing. (I married a military guy for a reason!) Well, about 3-4 days into the cruise, my DH was showing up for dinner in a goatee and Esteri's DH was still trying to work the Mr. Scruffy thing. Eventually he gave in to peer pressure!

Dh did keep the sides trimmed so it was one of those beard/mustache combos. But, I like him clean shaven.....

Hello everyone and I still miss being on the MAGIC with all of you... That said.. let me tell you about SYRACUSE NY TODAY...

So since I was home and its quite here I had a wonderful morning watching the pics on the PIRATE ZONE.. thank you to MIKE, KIM, PDARRAH,ANDY, MONICA AND STEPH for all the great pics you posted. It was great to relive all the memories again..If I new how to do it.. I would post mine as well.. sorry, not that talented..:confused3

To FATHER MIKE... church just wasnt the same on Sunday without the BUENO VISTA THEATER as the back drop.. yet alone the 65 min service..lol:goodvibes

Also, for those that knew it.. I did my frist 5K on SATURDAY.. it was the BUD run so the beer was flowing after the race. I seriously cried when I crossed the finish line. Those that know what I have gone through over the last 11 yrs know what I mean.. for me to be able to walk... was a great challenge.. so never say never!!:) Now my sons tell me we can do the DISNEY 1/2 marathon in 2010. he is so funny...

For those that i got to talk to, I love reading your posts .. I can hear you talking..lol ie SHELLY!!!

Scarey about your wild weather! We know that during the night Friday/Saturday we had high winds since we now can't find our 2 recyclable bins.......

Pics -- I'm going to try to finish up the uploading tomorrow. And I'm glad that you're enjoying them! I know I love looking at everyone's pics!!!

Congratulations on your running!!!!! What an accomplishment! If it wasnt' for the sweating part I would try something like that........ :)

Steph, I am so sorry. I know what your going through so if you want to ever talk PM me and I can give you my number. My dad was dx with pancratic Ca lastyr on the Sept 19. A year ago today we noticed his jaundice. Since I am the RN in the family, I too am in charge of the medical desicions... I took him to EVERY chemo tx 5 dys a week for 9 weeks I think it was.. I found great strength in my faith and also, talking to friends like the ones I made on the dis boards. No one can imagine the trust that he has left to you.. Talk and dont be afraid to ask questions.. And like I said if you ever need to VENT.. I am here..

Thank you. I will probably be taking you up on the offer! I was the *take care of mom* person a couple of years ago -- my mom was diagnosed with stage 3 BC. She is now fine but, it was exhasting!

Tom, I saw your post on the other thread and am so tempted by the HK trip. I love to shop and have made trips specifically to go shopping. If I weren't in the middle of a job hunt, I would love to join the girls. It's certainly something to keep in mind should my situation change soon.

DH goes to HK every year around the end of March, first part of April. One year I went and had a great time. I forced him to take me to the Jade market.... FUN! Oldest dd would have LOVED to have shopped but, she became sick on the trip and they didn't get a chance to do any real shopping.

I don't know who is going to get to go with him this year....The oldest 3 kids have all had the chance and so has one of my db's...... The last couple of times they were able to go to Disneyland HK. hhhmmm... maybe I want to go this next time..... :goodvibes

One of my favorite pics is the one dh took of Samantha trying on & picking out a pearl bracelet for her 13th b-day. :goodvibes They had a great time together on that trip.

I'm only now reading this and I wanted to convey my most gentle supportive sympathy. I too have family members with issues - one very similar in fact - and I've been the primary care giver to my Mother who had multiple myeloma - a rare form of cancer. So I know something or other about these things too - as so many here can echo.

Please know that from my family you have our understanding and resolute respect for having been entrusted by your brother with his affairs.... and you have our heart felt sympathy for the challenges and conditions you are now enduring. We do understand and offer you our prayers.

Thank you.

Hi everyone!

Been MIA for a few days...busy trying to catch up on Girl Scouts, our Church Festival this coming weekend and of course work (bleah!) ... Today actually had a few minutes to play ketchup!

I have been trying to put up pictures on the site..slowly going up..I didn't realize how many pictures we took. (Maybe because I usually had the video camera and DH and DD had the two digital cameras)

Have a great day!

That's correct, but you forgot "lean back!" So it goes...lean back, suck in, push out, don't breathe, and try not to pass out! :rotfl2:

HA! I haven't taken a full breath in swimwear since I was 11!

Hi Desiree....good to hear from you.

For picture sharing guru's:
I have a picture question too........I finally looked over the tutorial and such on the pirate zone and picked a handfull of PV pic's to start with. I was excited that we use Photoshop Elements and they have a share button that goes directly to smugmug. Well.......I had created a folder before I realized this......and after loading everything, I now have an empty folder and all my pictures went to first PV folder. I can't figure out what to do next, or how to do it right the next time.

Unfortunately..I can't help you! When I went to put mine in..I got a new folder and they didn't go where I thought they would..yesterday..someone had put them where they belonged (thank you!) and I still don't know how to get them into the correct folder...when I try..I can only click on someone else's. :headache:

Sorry we haven't met up for me to get the Goldfish and pay you! Let me know when is a good time..this weekend is out tho..our Parish Festival is on and starting tomorrow night..I practically get to live there! Let me know.

Hi everyone,
I am feeling bad that I haven't been on this thread for a bit and have been MIA, but I was in WDW for a week after the cruise, and have been trying to catch up ever since. I guess now that its been a week, I should be about done....lol. At least DH and kids were able to get back on Labor Day and start right into school and work.

Pdarrah, I don't have any concrete Disney plans for the coming year, and it is making me sad too. I just knew that by the TOAL finally arriving, it would be over soon, and then nothing. I have prebooked the free dining in 2009, but I am not used to going a whole year. I am hoping something will come up before then, but then on the other hand, I need to save up for 2010. :cloud9:

Or tell me where they start/end and I will move
