HELP!

OK, so I've known since we booked this cruise that DS9 will turn 10 onboard (Aug. 30). But now I am stressing over what to DO about it!! It is noted in our reservation, so there should be a suitable fuss at dinner for him, - 250 or so pirates singing happy birthday should be fun! But what about the rest of the day? Does DCL have birthday buttons like in the parks?

I'm not lugging presents with us. We don't do much in the way of "stuff" gift anyway - family and friends send them too much "stuff"! Since it is towards the end of the cruise, I may buy something he has his eye on.

Sooo, what do I do for the kid's birthday??? He's a heavy sleeper. Maybe I could decorate the room in the middle of the night?? Balloons pack small & would be fun in the room. Anyone up for a balloon blowing party in the wee hours of Aug. 30??? Deck 2 forward elevator area is close to our room.

How many balloons do you think it would take to fill a Cat 9???

Any other suggestions?

I decorated the cabin for Nick's birthday on our last cruise. I called DCL & was going to buy the birthday celebration package until we got to the part where they said how do you want to sign the card... from Mickey? no can do, from the gang?, nope, from dcl? no, can you leave it blank? um no.

we do our own silly candle in a breakfast food thing. I brought one candle & a pack of matches. I think we put it in a pile of bacon.

need some help with an image....

It is an image of South America highlighting the sea route before the canal was built and highlighting the canal route.

I need (well, not really need, but want) for DD's report that we are finishing up this week. I found it before but didn't print it and now can't find it anywhere

TIA :thumbsup2

Happy Birthday Stephanie!!!!!!!!!!!

Happy Birthday

Well.....

214 sq. ft. is the advertised size of the Cat 9, but this includes the bathrooms and closet, so 2/3 is roughly cabin space.

This gives 214 * 2/3 = about 143 square feet of living space?

The ceilings in the rooms are 7 feet hight, so the cubic space is about

143 x 7 = 1001 cubic feet.

If you get 9 inch balloons, you will fill a volume approximately 2/3 of a cubic foot.

Solving for "x", the number of balloons needed is

1001 = 2/3 * X

X = 1501

So you need 1500 balloons. Figure 30 or so smart add pirates would be willing to get up early to do this that means 50 balloons each.

Of course, if you just had everyone come from the bar to do this, figure an additional 250 balloons for breakage. And then what do you do with the drunk and now lightheaded pirates on the floor outside your room? :lmao: :lmao: :lmao:

M,

DO NOT COUNT on DCL to have it written down. We had it noted in our system too, DD's 21st birthday, Our anniversary and my birthday. We get onboard the first night - which was her birthday, and even though she was wearing a sash saying point me to the bar and 21 and ready for fun AND a crown, they had to ask if we were celebrating anything special on the cruise. :headache: seems when I tried to tell him what we were celebrating, we got "Just tell me the night before." OK, I don't get this, and worse, both of us are not strong chocolate lovers so what d we get? Not a what do you like? We get Chocolate mousse. :headache: :headache: :headache:

Some serving teams just don't seem to get this part. We had a similar experience in October 2006 - they were the worst servers we ever had (we actually tipped BELOW the recommended amount - gave the "extra" to our room steward who was great - because the service was so terrible) I had DH's birthday (last day on board) on our reservation, I told them the 1st day and I told them again the day before. THEN I "reminded" them when we got to the dining room and told them we really needed things to move a little faster so we could get out in time for Till We Meet Again. They didn't even wish him a "happy birthday" and took even longer than usuall to serve the meal. We finally had to walk out without desert and without any celebration at all as it was time for Til We Meet Again and DS really wanted to go to it. That was also the cruise where we never once saw or met the "head server"! It was a real bummer since it was DH's 40th.

Happily, we have had two other DCL cruises with very good dining room service! (our 1st and 3rd cruises) Other celebrations have been handled very well. One lesson we learned on that cruise is don't just put up with bad service - make a point of finding the head server and get things straightened out - we should have done something when it was obvious after a couple days that this wasn't a "one bad night" type of problem.

Pamela

OK Guys - lesson learned here - don't let any distractions happen while your packing.

So last night was our anniversary. I go to bed, BTW, Cpt Tom waspresent physically for the pictures, but you could have told his mind was elsewhere. On to my other problem.

jeeze, if the captain was... wait can't say that
your anniversary and... can't say that either
was the picture at least... dang
he could have pretended...

Is anyone still going on the DCL Acapulco City Tour with Cliff Divers? :confused3 DH doesn't like to do anything that isn't DCL organized. He says this is probably the only time we will be in these places and he wants to make sure we see what we want to see. It is just the two of us so the cost isn't too bad. I was hoping there will be some other DISers coming along.

Likewise.

We're doing 'Acapulco Highlights, Shopping & Cliff Divers', and DMIL/DFIL are doing the other DCL Cliff Divers tour.

Andy

We're on that one as well.

I am diabetic too, but I didn't intend to fill out the form. I just watch my carbs so I won't need a special diet. Do I still need to fill out the form?

My DH is diabetic but controls it with diet..so we did not fill one out for him.

Why is it that I TOTALLY understand this? :rotfl:

You know Pamela, I've always said I would if I got some slow service, normally I mention something and its taken care of, I think this cruise is cursed, the girl at guest services and I decided it must be because its my 13th cruise. :rotfl2:

Anyway, it all started when I asked for a chocolate souffle from Palos on MY BIRTHDAY as was told NO! Can't be done. Well, why is it when DH asks - they say yes? Makes no sense to me but now you understand why I have DH ask for things.

Things continued to go from there and voila - plus their being stingy with towels which is not the norm.

I don't know - maybe I just a good old fashioned bender to make me feel better. OK - anyway, I'm ranting now, back to slow service, I think that because I've been fortunate enough to have had some excellent service, I'm just not used to mediocre service. But I aired to a supervisor which has made me feel better so I'm hoping between that and candy, I might feel better. :lmao: Let you all know later.

For now, I'm going to get DH and April up and go to eat. Maybe meander my way into town and shopping. That should make me feel better. I know that I made the supervisor indignant on my behalf. Lets hope she gets somet things moved around

Lesson learned? Speak up and don't accept mediocre from Disney - her words not mine! :rotfl:

Stay tuned for more drama - oh and never piss off a Leo - right Cheryl???????:rotfl2:

Bye!

Have a good day Laura.....Oh yea....I am having a bad week also, can you pick me up some candy also?? :rotfl:

Talk to ya soon!

Pam

Sure can do! Your not allergice to silver are you? :thumbsup2

We're still doing that tour as it is the one thing DD was adamant she wanted to do. We're not doing the shopping one. Hoping that DCL have acted on prior feedback & have the tour description ready incase a trip via guest services is required on return!

Wow! All that for $39!
The package DCL sells looks pretty weak. A banner, a hangy thing and a cake (on a ship full of "free" food) that they would insist on delivering 13 days before his birthday. Awesome!

we do our own silly candle in a breakfast food thing. I brought one candle & a pack of matches. I think we put it in a pile of bacon.

BONG! BONG! BONG!
Now all firefighters report to Deck 9 aft.
Grease fire in Topsiders.
BONG! BONG! BONG!

Those that fall behind (or on their behind) get left behind. pirate:

Our server on our first cruise was pretty lousy. The assistant seemed to realize that and worked very hard to compensate for it. We gave the server the 'suggested' amount, but were much more generous with the assistant. We also wrote on our comment cards that we thought our assistant should be promoted to server.

You read my mind!

Does this help clarify things?

So wait??? Are they filming a Cialis commercial in the dining room?

.

We're still doing it! I really want to see the cliff divers and since it is the morning and we can't be sure when they will do the private show, I went with this.

Oh yeah, Julie - I have my reports typed up but haven't pasted them yet. Will do soon.

Looking forward to it, Laura! I hope things turn around and the rest of the day (and the cruise!) improve . . .

DD's bday is 9/4 and we are celebrating it in DL & on the ship too. DS turned 5 the day before our first cruise and he celebrated it in MK and onboard. She has always asked to do the same thing. :) I have a happy birthday banner to put up in the room one day. We picked up one of the foam crowns that are like the visors at WM and I have decorated it for her to wear at dinner or during the day on her "cruise bday". I am packing party hats and horns for dinner too. LOVE the idea of the birthday card being signed by the characters!!!! Adding that to my list. :) Thank you, Kim!

Happy to help! How many kids get a birthday card signed by all the characters? :goodvibes

Something else I bought for DD (which I didn't mention before because I didn't think M's DS would be interested!) is a "Birthday Girl" tiara from Claire's. I also ordered her a personalized birthday Minnie t-shirt from a seller on ebay. I haven't gotten it yet as it takes her a couple weeks to get the shirts made and mailed off. I'm thinking of putting these in some type of Disney birthday bag, along with her card, and giving it to her the morning of her birthday. That way she can wear her tiara and shirt to MK that day. We'll be having birthday dinner at Chef Mickey's that night also! I'll have to make a trip to Party City to look for decorations and party favors.

Of course, I am already having to listen to DD8 complain..."How come she gets to go to Disney on her birthday?" Wait until she sees the tiara and the t-shirt! :rotfl:

Sorry you've run into this poor service. I'm sure we'll all be grateful to you in a few weeks for whipping them into shape for us.

Did they have a lot of staff turnover recently that would cause this?

Also - did they share any details on the nature of their engine trouble?

Have fun today in port...

I guess everything happens for a reason

I woke up this morning feeling sick. Usually I try to push it off and go to work but we are so busy this summer that I decided to take a day and get healthy. At 10:30 th door bell rang. it was the post man with DH's passport. I am so glad I was home we would have had to go to the post office to pick it up during the very small window of hours they are open during the day.

One more thing done about 100 to go.

Great news about the passport and better to be sick now than next month! Hope you get better soon.

I am not sure if you have looked online but here are some options for you

Try Oldnavy.com too...they actually have some decent dresses and other items at a good price..I am hard to fit because of height and size and ON works....

Oh good. I was looking for an excuse!

Like any of us need and excuse for a Margi??? (or any beverage for that matter?):lmao:
