Found some info on the Orange Stinger on MiceChat. They've got a whole Project Tracker for the DCA changes. Looks like the ride is being rethemed to Silly Symphony Swings, but not being removed all together. Also not targeted to start until 2009.

Disneyland Tickets

For those of you who have not gotten your DL tickets yet, I wanted to let you know about this deal. It's the $99 Summer Fun Pass. It's a 3 day ticket that can only be bought in Southern CA but a SoCal resident. However, the ticket can be used by anyone. All the reports I've seen on this was 1 person was denied use on one of the first days these tickets went into affect. Later reports, including a quote from DL Guest Services, states that no ID is required when using the tickets, only when purchasing. If anyone is asked for ID at the gates, they should ask for a supervisor.

Edited to add: I don't have a SoCal address, so unfortunately I can't help with buying tickets. Maybe some of other CA pirates can help.

I would be happy to get tickets for anyone who needs them. We are in San Diego and going to the port on 8/17 so I would have to mail them to you ahead of time. PM me if I can help you.

Michelle

:wave2: all - got to go back to my regular scheduled assignment.

I should be back online soon I hope. Things wrapping up here so I see light at the end of the tunnel! :yay:

Warning...this is a vent. We are going to an out of town swim meet this weekend that begins Friday late afternoon, so we have to leave Friday morning. DH's boss, who has no kids has rescheduled a meeting 3 times and decided that Friday for lunch is the day. There is no way we can wait for him and make the meet in time. He told his boss that he can't be there and she basically said well either you come to the extended lunch meeting or you might not have a job. Then the only other weekend this summer that my DD has a dance performance that she has been working on since January, my DH's boss has decided to have an executive retreat! UGH!! Yes, I am happy he has a job and makes enough that I don't have to work but this lady drives me crazy! It just isn't right. Someone else asked about the next weekend and she said no, she can't make it. I love how it is all about her and what works best for her. I won't even mention all the kids' events he has missed because of work related stuff. :sad2:
The reason I quit my job was because he isn't around that much and someone needs to be here. Not his fault at all, but man is this frustrating. Does anyone out there need a really hard working CFO? This was even after he and I went out for margaritas tonight.:scared1:
Grand Cayman is looking better and better to move to. Life just shouldn't be this complicated

I must say ...

... you are NOT alone with the juggling fustrations of mixing your existance with that of others who simply are uncooporative or insensitive to your agenda. It is tough to find a happy medium for all - and I know you would agree. However, I do believe that sometimes to those who choose "thier" path - they will have to take the consequences of thier decisions - as well as reap the rewards when lucky enough the get any.

So - what DOES my circular logic really say? Well - such is life - let's be thankful for what we have, regardless of whether it's big or small, or if it comes with lots or little free time - and when things get me down or annoy me - I often muse over the obvious - the glaring truth of things that really set me on edge. SUCH as the fact that even those at the sub-poverty median income level in the USA ($25k) are still among the top 10% among the WORLD population. As an exercise in silly nonsense - here is the link to the "meter" I'm referring to - along with the WSJ article I found which refers to it...

Somehow ... thinking twice about how FORTUNATE we are to have what we have - compared to many on the planet serves to calm me sometimes when I feel like RANTING about occupations, incomes and the level of wealth we're "thinking" about. Yeah - most of us will more or less spend about $10,000 on this TOAL - and that vacation expenditure is more than what 86.69% of the World population earns in a YEAR! Yeah.. we're very lucky indeed...

DID YOU KNOW..?

Three billion people live on less than $2 per day while 1.3 billion get by on less than $1 per day. Seventy percent of those living on less than $1 per day are women.

You know, it's interesting to note that next to religion and politics, money is probably the most sensitive issue around. Even here on the boards you're more likely to hear people discuss health issues (sometimes quite intimately) before income and wealth.

I totally sympathize with disfreaks' vent - I once had a vacation ruined by demands of managers who needed something done "right away" that really could have waited. And for all the stress and hassle of being self-employed, there's something to be said for knowing you might go broke, but can never get fired (and I've experienced both - funny stories in each case.. well, at least funny now :) ).

There's a subtext always - even on the egalitarian magic, there are those who obviously can handle a category 1 without stress, some who've grabbed a category 4 and will be paying it off for years, others (like your's truly) who can if they choose post a picture of the canal on the inside cabin wall of their cat 11 or 12 during transit day. Of the latter, some are truly paid in full and others will be struggling to pay for even these cabins for some time to come.

It's a credit to the community as a whole that there is a sort of group decision to disregard financial status. Quite a change from the days of the Titanic (where us cat 11 folk would pretty much have had a guaranteed visit to Davy Jones).

Ok, I'm really not going anywhere with this. Except to maybe reinforce Crash's thoughts.... In one of my volunteer gigs I spend most of my time working with people who could never even dream of going on TOAL. The money for even a cat 11 would be beyond hope to accumulate, and credit would have been hard even in the grand ol' days of "everybody qualifies" a couple of years ago, and is out of the question now.

I do find myself exceedingly grateful for my good fortune (and will be more so once I actually have a cabin assignment :rolleyes1 ), and am often frustrated that for those dealing with tough job/financial situations or health issues, there is rarely more I can do than offer sympathy and wish them the best.

Hello everybody - I have sent out a large group of SM info. I have about 14 left to type up but I am just too tired to do anymore. Please hold on just a bit longer I'm hoping to get to them later this afternoon. I am dead tired and must stop for some rest.

In the meantime, if you that have received an e-mail, if you think of anything you would like to add, change, etc, please let me know via e-mail and I will pass that info on. Also, if you have any questions for your SM, please let me know that also. I will try and come back to you with an answer. I am making a blanket statement as I am tired of writing that each and every time. ;)

Thank you - now please return to your regular scheduling. :surfweb:

Dan,

I was just chatting with my FIL about how much retirement would cost - and health care along with so many other money matters - and now I suddenly find I'm musing over the guilt I have in having just eaten 6 Tacos from Del Taco (tonite is 3 for $1.19 TACO TUESDAY Promo nite) ... because I just blew more money on the 6 Tacos then 3 billion people had to LIVE on this day!

Sometimes things like this simply boggle the imagination. Not in ways that a rare moment from Star Trek or the Twilight Zone might... < wink > ... but but in a way that truly leaves me dumbstruck. I think of what my parents did to escape the ravages of WW2 (Invasion and alternately - the Communists) ... and where I might be if born into the existance of another country... like China or who knows where?

When China was about to repossess Hong Kong I recall traveling on business there and all the locals could talk about was getting thier children out to other countries - while a few we spoke with said they could not affford to escape. Some came to America - but many went to points all over the globe!

I clearly recall reading the Asian WSJ where an article recanted how a legal team had gone over from HK to China to try and explain to the incoming government officials the merit and necessity of having a WESTERN legal infrastructure. The idea of having economic efficiency through a reliable legal framework with everyone trying to honor contracts and avoid legal recourse because they could EXPECT the honest courst to uphold the letter of agreements... and all the Communist officals could say was - they were taking over and doing whatever they pleased. It seemed tragic. And a few pages further into that edition of the Asian WSJ there was a short article citing how THE Largest legal group in HK had just announced that it was moving it's complete HQ to Bermuda or something like that. Cause and effect.

OK... like Dan ... nowI find myself rambling aimlessly.

So - I must confess - on the cabin issue... I too find it amusing how "I" will get by in my humble catagory 9 cabin - as I simulate the sea breeze of a verandah with the WOOSH of my cabin vacuum toilet.

Dog_in_toilet.gif

And as for the good old days where steerage truly meant you were treated JUST LIKE cattle sould have been shipped in that day and age. It is interesting how Cunard has thier various cabin catagories dining in seperate dining rooms - which are deliberately scaled to the general fare level being burnt up. I found that strangely appealing while in the same breath repulsive. I guess I'm just a plain vanilla kind of bloke. Well... maybe plain vanilla if it's the good stuff where you can see the vanilla bean specks in the ice cream - and please - serve it all on nice china with quality silverware. <wink> So - it's maybe a "good thing" Disney doesn't run thier ships like Cunard. It's bad enough I gotta anguish over the Palo fees... and I just don't know if I could deal with the class distinctions dredged up on Cunard ships.

And yeah - Dan - from your posting of volunteerism - I simply have fallen far short in this regard compared to how I used to be. Some day - hopefully sooner than I sagely expect - I need to get back to giving more back to our community in meaningful ways. Maybe when the kids truly need less of my time, eh? SO my hat is off in respectful salute to you for your contributions and labor to charity and those in need.

So - on reflecting upon your "good fortune".... I think many here would echo these setiments. Simply securing a reservation - especially from way back in January - that alone is a stroke of good fortune! I remember when I first heard about the initial passage of the Disney Magic through the PC for those first California cruises way back when. I had JUST discovered these on-line cruise enthusiast communities - and I might have JUST been a lurker back then too. I remember going through the pricing - and coming to the realization that those first two trans canal repo sailings were in fact the trips we wanted! Only the pricing was something I was trying to evaluate - as was the fustration at not having been knowledgable enuf to have been reserving when the cabins went on initial sale.

So yup - we are all (in a way) so very VERY lucky to be on this voyage. and I also believe this has been such a wonderful journey already in the company of so many decent folks - sharing their thoughts - trials - humor - sillyness -... - not to neglect the common everyday musings of so many - as in their kids' exploits and otherwise. Shoot - to some degree - over time we've seen all sorts of things voiced and posted here. Over 100,000 postings makes for a lot of variety in subject matter over the past year or so. And that is still true after you all subtract / exclude the FLUFF I'veposting in the 5000+ postings of images an' such I've tossed into here. < BIG steady grinning >

OK... so is this going to be another wind-bag posting from me -one of the few I've done on this thread - in part because I've occassionally drawn (gasp) criticism and (groan) complaint for having hogged up so much thread space with my droning ramblings. Yeah - maybe so...

OK... again ... time fer me to move on. I gotta roam a bit before I settle in fer the nite. I got a play-date to run with another SAHD pal of mine. We got kids the SAME age - 4 and 7 ... and our kids attended the same day care ... so we're doing a modest visit to Leo Carrillo state beach again tomorrow for the low tide - tide pool exploring. The almanac suggests it will be low tide at 11AM ... and there will also be RECORD high temps inland - so this days plans should achieve goord result in these two respects = taking advantage of low tide and high temps! Plus - I've got good grub fer lunch tomorrow - I got us some good quality hot dogs with cheap $0.99 a pack buns (but fresh made) ... and I got some Alaskan King Crab legs and a couple of nicely marinated chicken kabobs that were on 30% reduction for being close to thier "expiration date".... plus I picked up a pack of ground turkey patties to make relatively healthy burgers. All this has to be cooked in the moring - well not the crab legs - but the rest must be prepped and packed to go BEFORE I take Julianna to her swim team practice... cuz right after that we're gonna head out fer the beach.

SO - with this I bid one and all a wonderful wednesday. Sorry to have been such a windbag tonite. As Cheryl mentioned - I have not ben around much - in part because of the vexing ISP issues I've had - so with my absence comes a pent up need to just spout gibberish in DIS thread form!

To the Great Pink Demon Porkers ( and their related minions) who rule the etherial threads - please forgive me... for I am truly INNOCENT....

< wink >

Hmm, my folks were well into earning their title of "most boring college-age people of the late 60's"

But Ed...i like bananas.....

I was in diapers and not on DIS chat.....

As opposed to now, when you are in diapers on DIS chat.

Hi Andy!

Look at that skinny little thing...I hate her!! ;)

Saaayyy....

Alicia and I were about 5 as well too at that time![/CENTER]

I was negative 5!

This be the Quartermaster. I 'ave receipt o' five boxes o' Pirate Booty. Fear not! They be guarded by t' faithful Quartermaster dog. None shall pirate our booty!

Isn't he supposed to have a rink of keys in his mouth??

6 months old. Bald as Musollini. In diapers.

Aren't you bald now??
Did you have hair in between??

Math Alert!!!!!!!!!!!!!
If John is 61.............I could trade him in for three 20's!!:rolleyes1

Just kidding dear!!!(just in case he reads this)

MATH ALERT:
Yeah, but your remainder would be a 1-year-old. And that's not good. Better trade for 3 20-year-4-month-olds.

Hi All

I have been enjoying a few (only 100 pages) of your multiple incarnations of this meet and greet thread. Last night I had posted about some of the fun activities, and was told that I needed to bulk up my posting count...so bear with me.

Our little family will be enjoying our first Disney Cruise...and as luck would have it, we were able to snatch a cancellation in Dec. 2007. So excited to get a chance to share in the fun.

Thanks for all of the help, :worship:
Carol

WELCOME!
Don't let the last 12 hours scare you away. It usually doesn't move this fast!

Don't even joke about that. I've been held at gunpoint by guerillas before and it really wasn't very fun.
:scared: Yes, I'm dead serious.

NOW...who wants to go with me in Cartegena??

NOTIT!

That sucks. Some people just don't get that there is more to life than work - and that is sad.

My boss is a 50-something workaholic. Never had a husband or kids. Takes pride in actually losing vacation days because she carries too many year to year. Leaves the office about 8 each night. Rolls her eyes when people go on vacation...

May I offer to lead a brief round of "Thanks" for Everything you and your task force has done to launch this edition of Secret Mickey for our voyage!

And in shameless support of this spectical.... may dare to offer another edition of "7 Questions" which are suspiciously convenient for use in finding more "dirt" on our secret mickey beneficiaries!?

Anyone so wishing is invited to SKIP replying to any questions below to avoid self incrimination or brain hemmoraging from agonizing over any replies....

3) You have any snacks or beverages which you sinfully covet?

4) Are there any musicians, music groups or catagories of music which tickle your fancy more than others?

5) Are you COMPULSIVE about anything??? - or alternatively - is there anything that comes to mind which has recently has been an ANNOYANCE to you?

7) Now ... I'm going to stick MY neck out and ask ya ta share your T-shirt size .... and if this is NOT a diplomaticly correct question - then I invite you to substitute with confessing your NICKNAME!... if any?

...and as has often been cited by Monty Python... and now for something completely different ... a "bonus question" especially tailored for those who SkIPPED any of the preceeding questions .... or this may be considered a TRUE bonus exercise in mischief among those who have skipped NONE of the preceeding 7 questions:

BONUS QUESTION #8) FOR ONLY THE FIRST THREE persons who reply to this : YOU can pose a question for everyone else to consider. And everyone else may consider these questions to reply to on an optional basis only - or a mandatory basis IF you've skipped any of the foregoing questions! ...[ed]...

Well now... I fell asleep at the switch here... and just sort of woke up to find my draft half done - so I polished it off an posted it to find YOUR posting waiting here. So my reply is NO and YES (maybe). And now I'm abruptly off to "sleepy land" again! I gotta get some rest before I venture out to Leo Carrillo beach again tomorrow - as I'm hitting it again for the low tide and tide pools with another SAHD neighbor with 2 boys approximatly the same age as our girls!

HOWEVER, before I run = in reply to your mention of the 50ish work-a-holic.... two things: a) I DID mention that everyone should get what they exercise as thier 1st priority (for better or worse), and b) I recall how my parents never took vacation or holidays for the 20+ years they ran their business. It was run litterially 365 days a year ... 11 to 7 or 9 on weekends and holidays. And I grew up in it - never having a vacation - and thinking gee... doesn't EVERYONE do this too? And yeah ... point "B" is precisely why Alicia constantly refuses to let me go into some kinds of businesses - because this is likely to be the way I'd run it... never taking a day off.... if I did.

OK.... time to catch some real "Zzzzz"s....

Which clock is this? I've been looking for a travel alarm that you don't have to press a button to light up the face. :)

Laura, I got the one called Smart Lite Travel Alarm clock...#AC354. I also liked that it closes into its own case, so the buttons won't get pushed, either in my bag, or by my stateroom host, who kept accidentally waking me at 6 am!

Thanks!! :thumbsup2

Ours is the 3'x5'....I think that should be fine.
I went with the 3'x5' to play it safe. I figured it would be more of a problem if it was too long.

Hi Carol:yay:
Hang in there. I had to skip about 30 pages when they took off on a sprint. Luckily it was mostly fluff and food porn.
Keep posting and tell us about yourself:thumbsup2

I finally got back on and answered you from the last thread. Sorry about that!
No problem. Thanks for the link to the website:thumbsup2 I didn't think I was going to be able to get a banner.

Don't even joke about that. I've been held at gunpoint by guerillas before and it really wasn't very fun.

What are the odds of it happening to the same person again:confused3 Is it like lightening:confused3 Besides you're experienced with this kinda hostage stuff now:idea:
I signed up for Cartagena tour #3, you can come with us:thumbsup2

:ssst: :tiptoe: You don't see me here - I'm just :drive: by to subscribe!

But also volunteering to buys some if anyone wants me too. Just pm or e-mail me and we can figure it out.

I often forget that there is a diverse group here on this thread, especially when it comes to income. I think it is just one of the reasons I like this group so much, everyone is very respectful and supportive of each other. I also find I appreciate what I have when I take the time to consider what others don't (such as health and employment situation).

:surfweb:
Yeah, You're almost done:thumbsup2
Hang in there:hug:

ATTN GIRLS SCOUTS:
Girl Scout Badge Idea...........Let me know what you think!

In the Junior Girl Scout Manual there is a badge called "On My Way". Junior Scouts need to complete SIX activities, not sure about the Daisy's or the Brownies. I came up with three activitie ideas here.

Things we could do to earn the badge: 1) Find out about a couple of "Travel Careers" - maybe interview the Cruise Director, a dining room server, the excursion manager, galley manager, etc. 2) Each girl could create a travel post card of the port they are most looking forward to or that we have visited and they blind swap them with each other............THEN.........once the girls are home they could write something on their postcard and send it to someone totally different (we would have to assign an address). 3) The girls could brainstorm safety on the ship and how to stay safe - travelling in pairs, etc.

These are just some ideas I came up with........someone might have something to add or something totally different in mind. Give me your thoughts

I have a CRUISE related question!

We are signed up for the Mangrove Eco Tour in Cartegena with DCL. No where on the description does it state we whould wear long pants & long sleeves, nor does it say to use insect repellent.

I am planning to take insect repellent. I will most likely take some jeans to wear but was really not thinking I would have to wear them on this excursion. What do you guys think?

Disneyland Related Question..................

I am really struggling with dining at Disneyland and I need some advice from the Ca experts. At this point I have not made any priority seating dining at all. I figured we would plan to be in the parks early as possible, grab a quick bite at McDonalds on the way in and then have an early lunch around 11 and then an early dinner arpound 5 to avoid some of the crowds. Figured we would just eat wherever we were at the time.

HOWEVER, DS is turning 13 which is the first day we are in Disneyland. I wanted to do a character breakfast but he kind of stuck his nose up at that idea (he is too cool & too old for that :confused3) So.............I was searching through the sit down full service restaurants that are interesting and would be good for all of us. I keep looking at Blue Bayou - its right up his alley BUT the menu (its an old one and it may be updated now) does not seem all that appealing to kids............both of my kids like plain foods, no fancy stuff. SO, those of you who have been, can you tell me if they have chicken strips, grilled cheese, or just plain steaks or chicken?

If I don't make any dining reservations do you think I am making a big mistake??? Thanks!

Thanks to everyone for all the congrats.  It is not official til July 13th.:thumbsup2 I picked 13 so John would never forget the date!!:rotfl2: :rotfl2:

Also want to thank all of you for making me feel really old and reminding me some of you were not even born yet, in diapers or parents still in highschool!!!:lmao: :lmao: :lmao: :lmao: :lmao: :lmao:

I was 7 days shy of 8! This should make you feel better, my mom graduated HS in 1942, so she could of been old enough to be your mom!
We love you guys!

When are we going to do a N. CA meet? I am free this weekend and Saturday of next weekend. I am hoping to meet some of you before DL/or the cruise!

I am game to host in my place in SF.

Sounds good. Let me know what you guys come up with.
