I was searched a topic and came across the "threadkillers" thread. I'm gonna post a reply here, I'm a little shy!
Anyway, if you decide to change the countertop, my husband would also agree that solid surface is nice but he reccommends the faux stuff. DH has worked in the family's building supply store for 20+ years and took over the business 3 yrs ago. He often gets asked for his opinions on redoing kitchens. Many times people are willing to pay big $$'s for Corian countertop but cut corners by ordering cheaper cabinets...he says if anything, do it the other way around, the good cabinets with cheaper countertop. (but not too cheap)
The faux granite like ones will probably last until your ready to change the colors in your kitchen again. Many people get tired of the color of their kitchen w/in 10 years and changing the countertop and paint is an easy way to update. And a nice wood REAL wood cabinet can work for anyones taste.
We will be breaking ground for our new house next year. We just bought our neighbors lot so now we have 2 wells and eptics, but neither of which is where our new house will be....we have 50 acres total. I put the new house on hold so we could go on this vacation, also our oldest will start college in the fall.(nursing)
I'll be intersted to find out how things go with your kitchen.
Oh, we have real granite in the bathroom..the sink vanity, and when it gets wet, it stains, it eventually dries up and goes away, but it doesn't just wipe away, something else to think about.
Good Luck
