We're still 'small town' and very personalized. We even look up the library card number if the patron forgets to bring theirs. We even have the card number memorized for some of the 'regulars'. Taxpayer dollars, hard at workohiominnie said:Oh my....our library system in Franklin Co has gone nearly all automated. You have to get your own reserves off the shelf. You have to check yourself out by yourself, yada yada yada. I'm not sure what the librarians DO all day!!![]()

If you had to start over with a new career (one that provides a paycheck, by the way) and you were (insert age here, but let's say for an example 50), what career would you choose? And how many years of schooling would you be willing to put in to get there? Let's also say that any college degrees and previous work experience are practically useless at this point.

I like your choices, Stacey. I'm getting away from computers and finance as I supported the IT dept. for financial business group for 11 years and had been on-call at all hours off and on for the last 15 years. Did think about getting an accounting degree, though. Also thought about Rad Tech, Surgical Tech and am still looking for other ideas.justmestace said:Looking back, I wish I had gone into computers. Or Finance, like International Finance.

justmestace said:Ahh...I liked that one. Have you read all of the "Mitford" books by Jan Karon? Those were ones that got me through some really dark days, and I couldn't put them down. I wish there were more of them!

Unfortunately, the only time I get to read in the library is during my lunch hour. Other times there are all these pesky people bothering me wanting to check out books and have me help them find stuff on the shelves.
Or having to take 2nd or 3rd shift...I've thought of that, too. Not to mention that I'm not really thrilled about going back to school with a bunch of 'young kids'. I wonder what (legitimate) degree I can get on-line?ohiominnie said:Just make sure you look into what hours are expected of you....
I shudder at the thought of going back into a hospital setting where I'd have to probably work evenings and nights....

The cruising is just pure relaxation and being pampered. And eating too much. And not exercising it off!And most everything is "free" (or "included")
WDW is a world all it's own. It's classics and memories and fun. It's experiencing things with the kids that I did as a kid. It's finding new things to do while still incorporating the old favorites. It's still eating well, but at least moving so you work some of it off. It's getting a bill at the end of each meal![]()
We had been to WDW several times before our first cruise (DCL) After the cruise we were all crying that we *had* to go to WDW...we wanted to stay on the ship. In fact, dd was willing to trade our NINE days at WDW for just FOUR more on the ship.
We've gotten over that. Each place has it's time and I can't honestly say I'd ever be able to give up one for the other. We have cruised so much lately, that we have had precious little WDW time in comparison to what we were used to. This April/May we had to cancel a cruise b/c of dh's glaucoma surgery and I was fine with it b/c I was looking forward to being able to spend a LONG time at WDW!
Epcot...that has grown on us. When we first started going, we'd give Epcot 1/2-3/4 of a day....that's it. In a 9 day trip, that wasn't very much. Now we head to Epcot every chance we get. When we checked in this last time and were settled we had no real "plans." So we took a poll of the family and every person wanted to go to Epcot!!
whnim64 said:I must admit that I've read more since I've started working at the library, but still don't have a lot of time to read. I think a lot of it has to do with reading all the posts on here. The next James Patterson Alex Cross book is due out in November. I have Harry Potter pre-ordered, but might get to start it early if it gets to the library before the release date. I'm one of those readers that sticks to the same authors. I really need to try something new. We have a lot of Sandra Brown readers, and Jill Churchill's books sound fun. I don't read Nicholas Sparks and won't read Patterson's Diary, either.
