So what is wrong with us that we'd rather be cruising than at WDW. :duck: We did WDW and it was OK. We didn't care for Epcot, except for Illuminations and the parade.

We love both....for different reasons.
The cruising is just pure relaxation and being pampered. And eating too much. And not exercising it off! :earseek: And most everything is "free" (or "included")

WDW is a world all it's own. It's classics and memories and fun. It's experiencing things with the kids that I did as a kid. It's finding new things to do while still incorporating the old favorites. It's still eating well, but at least moving so you work some of it off. It's getting a bill at the end of each meal :earseek:

We had been to WDW several times before our first cruise (DCL) After the cruise we were all crying that we *had* to go to WDW...we wanted to stay on the ship. In fact, dd was willing to trade our NINE days at WDW for just FOUR more on the ship.

We've gotten over that. Each place has it's time and I can't honestly say I'd ever be able to give up one for the other. We have cruised so much lately, that we have had precious little WDW time in comparison to what we were used to. This April/May we had to cancel a cruise b/c of dh's glaucoma surgery and I was fine with it b/c I was looking forward to being able to spend a LONG time at WDW! ;)

Epcot...that has grown on us. When we first started going, we'd give Epcot 1/2-3/4 of a day....that's it. In a 9 day trip, that wasn't very much. Now we head to Epcot every chance we get. When we checked in this last time and were settled we had no real "plans." So we took a poll of the family and every person wanted to go to Epcot!!

Oh my....our library system in Franklin Co has gone nearly all automated. You have to get your own reserves off the shelf. You have to check yourself out by yourself, yada yada yada. I'm not sure what the librarians DO all day!! ;) :duck:

We're still 'small town' and very personalized. We even look up the library card number if the patron forgets to bring theirs. We even have the card number memorized for some of the 'regulars'. Taxpayer dollars, hard at work :goodvibes . Of course for those patrons that have on-line access, they can request books and renew books on-line.

OK, I'm looking for opinions again and know that I can count on you all. If you had to start over with a new career (one that provides a paycheck, by the way) and you were (insert age here, but let's say for an example 50), what career would you choose? And how many years of schooling would you be willing to put in to get there? Let's also say that any college degrees and previous work experience are practically useless at this point.

Looking back, I wish I had gone into computers. Or Finance, like International Finance. At this point, (insert almost age 50)....I'm thinking Interior Design, Photgraphy, I had thought Travel Agent until I heard what all my TA goes through! Let's see.....I met a guy on the June cruise who cares for the elderly (one private patient at a time) and of course, he's travelled all over with them...
I know that our small local paper desperately needs an editor...maybe I'd go for that.

A bottle of wine, from the ta, was waiting in our cabin. We don't drink and shared it with our tablemates. I could have brought it home for cooking, but I don't cook;) .

speaking of reading....I'm going to curl up in bed and read the rest of Suzanne's Diary to Nicholas....

WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA

Ahh...I liked that one. Have you read all of the "Mitford" books by Jan Karon? Those were ones that got me through some really dark days, and I couldn't put them down. I wish there were more of them!

I like your choices, Stacey. I'm getting away from computers and finance as I supported the IT dept. for financial business group for 11 years and had been on-call at all hours off and on for the last 15 years. Did think about getting an accounting degree, though. Also thought about Rad Tech, Surgical Tech and am still looking for other ideas.

See, I get up early to chat for once, and I'm the only one here! Ha! You KNOW I didn't get up early just to chat....heading to the doc. icky. (no offense WVMD & Mike)

Well, I'm off, and I'm going to work at the library, now, too, so I can read all day after monopolizing the boards for a bit. Hope everyone has a great day.

Oldest DD has her degree in Medical Assisting...but she teaches pre-K....I was wishing she would go into surgical tech.

I'd move to Florida and work at WDW.

Probably not helpful, huh?

Yes, I read them. We've been shipping them go Gma Lightbulb as she goes through chemo. She has said on numerous times that losing herself in Mitford is what keeps her going sometimes.

Isn't there a new one coming out soon?

New Mitford Book Releases Light from Heaven - All good things—even laughter and orange marmalade cake—must come to an end.

And in Light from Heaven, the long-anticipated final volume in the phenomenally successful Mitford Years series, Jan Karon deftly ties up all the loose ends of Father Timothy Kavanagh’s deeply affecting life.

On a century-old valley farm where Father Tim and Cynthia are housesitting, there’s plenty to say grace over, from the havoc of a windstorm to a surprising new addition to the household and a mystery in the chicken house. It’s life on the mountaintop, however, that promises to give Father Tim the definitive challenge of his long priesthood. Can he step up to the plate and revive a remote, long-empty mountain church, ASAP? Or has he been called to accomplish the impossible? Fortunately, he’s been given an angel—in the flesh, of course. Light from Heaven is filled with characters old and new and with answers to all the questions that Karon fans have asked since the series began nearly a decade ago. To put it simply—it’s her best. And we believe millions will agree.

Well, based on your age (no offense) but you aren't heading to see a doc like Mike and based on the fact that you are conscious and typing well and don't seem panicked I doubt you are going to see a doc like Virgil..... ;)

Just make sure you look into what hours are expected of you....
I shudder at the thought of going back into a hospital setting where I'd have to probably work evenings and nights....

and Easter...
and Christmas....
and Thanksgiving....

Someone made the comment to me not long ago that she wished she could just sit in the library and read all day like I do. Unfortunately, the only time I get to read in the library is during my lunch hour:mickeybar . Other times there are all these pesky people bothering me wanting to check out books and have me help them find stuff on the shelves.

Oh trust me - I have been around libraries enough as a patron and volunteer to know how hard library staff work and for little pay and appreciation..and the work it takes to become a certified librarian...You might even find me in the stacks as a patron - reshelving books as I'm browsing...(I'm that obsessive about books) With the exception of my first job out of college (I learned my lesson) - I've tried to work in fields in which I have a passion for...Since I have a passion for reading, discovery, sharing favorite authors, and libraries in general - that's more why I'm a librarian - wanna - be...I didn't mean to imply reading is all library staff do.. (But, I'm sure liking your perk of getting the books early... :teeth: )

On an aside note, because I know how hard library staff work, I've taught my kids from a young age - how to look up topics & books, how to find them and importantly, put them back...Also, talk in whispers...(uh oh, I"m getting on my soap box - but, I get really annoyed by cell phone use in the library...)

Or having to take 2nd or 3rd shift...I've thought of that, too. Not to mention that I'm not really thrilled about going back to school with a bunch of 'young kids'. I wonder what (legitimate) degree I can get on-line? :badpc:

Excellent post, Gunka. That's exactly how we feel. On our sixteen day trip, we did a total of one day at AK, and one day at MK, though Alicia went to MK with Matt and Lisa. We like TOT, so there were several trips to MGM. But the very large bulk of the time was at Epcot, seems like we can always find something to do there. Did you catch the Voices of Liberty? They have a new singer, a young lady that wears a blue dress, that absolutely takes your breath away! She's got an operatic voice that gets stronger when the notes get higher and more extended, it's really something to hear.

And we love the concerts, the street performers, and of course the variety of snacks and drinks available. My impression is that it's the park that the locals head to on Friday nights. It starts to look like a street party.

I must admit that I've read more since I've started working at the library, but still don't have a lot of time to read. I think a lot of it has to do with reading all the posts on here. The next James Patterson Alex Cross book is due out in November. I have Harry Potter pre-ordered, but might get to start it early if it gets to the library before the release date. I'm one of those readers that sticks to the same authors. I really need to try something new. We have a lot of Sandra Brown readers, and Jill Churchill's books sound fun. I don't read Nicholas Sparks and won't read Patterson's Diary, either.

Please no posting of HP secrets at least until the evening of the 17th, I think I can read it in less than a day! Of course I may be working. :confused3
