Hello everyone, I'm still here
We had a rather exciting weekend. Alan, his brother and their father had taken a road trip to Cabo San Lucas to pick up a car and bring it back. It's somewhere around 1400 miles from here. The trip went fine basically. Saturday after they'd crossed the border, BIL headed back here in the jeep that's been in Mexico for about 8 years. Alan and FIL went up to L.A. to pick up Bryce after his 5 weeks on Catalina Island. I got a call from BIL - he was out in the middle of the desert (Yuma) - had changed two flat tires. He'd had one spare plus the donut. The tires were ruined - not fixable. It was 120

in Yuma that day. He was driving 50 mph with the flashers on and he wanted me to head that way and then follow him the rest of the way in case the other 2 tires went. By the time I got things together (like a small compressor, etc) and got out that way I met up with him in Gila Bend - just over an hour from my house. We made it back fine. It was rather exciting merging on to I-10 going 50 with all the traffic. I didn't like being the rear vehicle!
Jim went off to do some things here like visit the Ham Radio store before he headed off to Albuquerque the next day. I went off to the 3 Day Walk fundraiser I was supposed to be at.
Meanwhile, Bryce gets picked up. Everything was fine except one of his suitcases didn't make it from the barge to the boat to the mainland. Perhaps it at the bottom of the ocean - I don't know. They waited til everyone else was gone, checked some peoples piles of luggage, filled out a report etc before heading home. The bag that did make it home has all his socks, boxers, 3 big sports bottles for water, 2 or 3 nalgene bottles, a coffee mug, t-shirts, etc. The bag that did not make it home had his brand new sleeping bag, his Dive Log!, his advanced certification book, his Class A uniform, his Staff jacket and some other things. He also managed to get home with a 6 pack of glass bottles of cream soda.
They got home around 9:45 pm. Shane had gone to a Motor Cross show and was supposed to come right home. At 10:30 I called to see where he was and he said he was just about to call me. He had just hit a car while trying to park in a parking lot at a convenience store. Neeless to say, Alan did not want to get back in the car after spending 3000 miles with his brother and Dad. Of course was hurt so that's good. He did a fair amount of damage to the other car. He's been driving my Dad's old '93 F150 so he didn't do much physically to it. The steering seems to maybe have a problem. Alan hasn't looked at it - he drove it home and parked it and there it has sat. I feel a little bad for Shane. It's bad enough to have an accident, but to do it when your uncle and grandpa are here and when you have a little brother.............. The guy didn't want police or insurance called - he said for Shane's sake. I don't think police would have come anyway since it was a parking lot. But, it makes us wonder if he's uninsured. If police would come then they would ask to see proof of insurance. Anyway, he is foreign and seemed to work pretty hard to get a quote they thought we'd pay out of pocket for ($700). Supposedly he got someone to do some negotiating for him. Alan thinks that's quite fair and he talked to the shop directly. Hopefully it will all turn out o.k.
The rest of this week has been normal - nothing exciting going on.
Happy Birthday to those of you
