Just got in from work and checked our reservation. Not much of an upgrade (12 to 11), but the room they gave us is a NIGHTMARE! Right beside a laundry room.

I'm calling DCL and getting it changed. I've read several horror stories about the rooms right next to/across from the laundry rooms.

ETA: Calling DCL and getting nowhere. According to them, they are "out of Cat.11 rooms" so they can't move us. I told them we booked a GTY 12, so they said they will "try to move us back to a Cat. 12, but they may not be able to do so since the ship is at capacity". There is no way this ship is at capacity! Getting DH to call now... he is much nicer than me and may be able to get a better answer.

OK, now maybe I'm scared. Is that empty space next to 6131 a laundry room? Do I need to call Disney?

The room review is showing that that space is a "cast member only area", possibly a linen distribution closet.

Thanks...I can deal with the linen closet.

Dee47..I'm the other neighbor from a few pages back.

Can somebody remind me how cabin tag works. I think I'm interested but the information overload is kicking in big time now.

Somewhere in the last few pages somebody mentioned being able to flight info on the website. Where do I find it?

You are next door to me! I went from 12 to a 10 - room 2083. My main concern though is that it is a connecting room and I hope whoever is in 2085 is quiet at night so I can sleep.

Kristi

Just purr they will go right to sleep.:lmao:

Someone earlier mentioned that upgrades surprises at the port are still possible. I believe that . My first cruise was a 3 nighter. I booked two days before final payment was due. I held off completing my online paperwork as I thought I didn't want to print them and then lose them. As the cruise drew closer and closer, I still didn't have a room. I finally finish the online paperwork and within 48 hours I had a room number (12 to a 9).

This was 2 WEEKS before sailing!!!!!! I was beginning to worry if I was going to have a room. Well, after the luggage was delivered....I discovered two extra bags outside my door. Someone got a surprise upgrade at port as their tags had my room number on them. Yes, I was a good cougar and called CS to let them know about the extra luggage. It was gone in minutes! Don't know where the other people were put, but I doubt it was another cat 9 room.

So...... who knows.

DH said I can go ahead with the booking, but hopes I spend the entire time seasick as can be. :cool1:

I will be traveling with out my DH and he says the same thing about me being seasick...NICE. I will also be traveling with my DS (5 or as he would say 5 1/2)

Upgrades ... not sure of the criteria behind who gets upgrades (other than oversold GTY staterooms) ... curious ...

I do not understand the whole "upgrade" process. Although we are DVC, I have never used points to book a cruise. We are however CC Gold as are my parents & neither of us have EVER received an upgrade! Maybe it's because we always book a cat 5 out of the gate? Just doesn't seem like a very fair process to me. :confused3

Well, we got our stateroom assignment a few minutes ago. We were cat 10 Gty and that's exactly what we got. Room 7509 which is a cat 10. This is our 7th cruise and we have never gotten an upgrade. I'm kinda bummed since it seems like so many of you are getting awesome upgrades. Oh well, I guess I'll get lots of quality sleep with a really dark room. My mom's room is near the Deck 7 secret verandah thingy. I guess I'll hang out back there some with her.

Congrats to everyone that did get a super upgrade!!!!

Lori

The deck 7 cat 10s are great rooms! That's where we originally booked before we wound up cancelling and rebooking. You're going to love those rooms.

I'd wait a few more days. They normally will not take any requests while the room swaps are going on because the ship is now outside the scope of the regular reservation consultants and into the hands of the cabin management/inventory control consultants. The ship is nowhere near capacity, but when you call customer service you're not going to get someone on the phone who has any control over changing your cabin number.

FWIW, my mom was near the laundry room on our last cruise and she didn't have any noise problems.

I have been trying to look into this, due to a bad experience with a prior cruise (short notice cancellation of port). The e-mails I am getting in response DO NOT address my questions. DCL was very evasive, and pretty much say they can "do what they want, when they want". Their tone and verbiage was extremely arrogant.

I'm sure DCL doesn't know what they're doing about Madiera yet. You have to understand that there are a lot of parties involved in making the decision of whether or not to stop there. Each port has a ship agent and a plethora of vendors and suppliers who are booked through the ship agent. In order to change our stop, DCL would need to do a lot of rebooking to set things up. At this point, I'm sure their looking into all of their options, but no decision has been made yet.

GOLD, no upgrade this cruise, never been upgraded (but several times had reservation noted NOT to upgrade)

To have this many upgrades on a cruise is highly unusual, particularly on DCL. The reasons we've seen this so much on our cruise: (1) far fewer verandah cabins booked than normal. This is a TA cruise, people won't have the opportunity to sit out on a balcony in the Caribbean sun. So they opted for the cheaper cabins. This left a lot of verandah cabins open. (2) TA cruises generally sell a lot slower than other cruises. Because of the cost of airfare to get to or from Europe and the length of the cruise, it's a lot less desirable for most people. So there are more open cabins than normal.

Unfortunately, that you booked a cat 5 from the get go worked against you, because there was less room to move you up! DCL is trying to sell as many cabins as possible by moving people up from GTY status into the outside/verandah cabins and selling the lowest rate cat 12 cabins. They've been pushing the cat 12s for a few months now, and with so few cat 11/12 cabins, all of those people needed to be moved up. DCL would rather get people on the ship paying the cat 12 rate than nothing at all though.

This is our 4th DCL cruise and we've never had an upgrade. We were lucky enough to get a cat 4 for this cruise, but we were booked at a verandah GTY, so while we lucked out, it's still not an "upgrade" from what we booked.
