Upgrades ... not sure of the criteria behind who gets upgrades (other than oversold GTY staterooms) ... curious ...

1) For those who booked on DVC points ... please tell us whether you HAVE, or HAVE NOT received an upgrade. If so, what was your booked catagory - and what is your new category.

2) For those GOLD and PLATNUM Castaway Club members ... please tell us which Club level you are, and whether you HAVE, or HAVE NOT received an upgrade. If so, what was your booked catagory - and what is your new category.\

FIRST RESPONSE:
DVC POINTS: Neven been upgraded
GOLD CASTAWAY CLUB: Never received an upgrade on any DCL cruise

<<NORTHEAST WEATHER UPDATE>>
Suburban Philadelphia is bracing for a SNOWACANE (Wednedsay/Thursday - through Thursday/Friday)! That's snow, at hurricane force winds. We're expected to get another 6 inches of snow, with 75+ MPH winds. Hmmm, I'm thinking the snow drifts will be :scared1:

Yes it is!!!

just curious about you not wanting a split bathroom - that is my favorite thing about the rooms - even more so than the window/verandah - but then we are a family of 4 - if we were two it might not be as big of a deal.

we had only been on deck 7 until our last cruise and then we were on deck 1 to start with and had some noise below us in our cat. 10 and I went at midnight and asked if that would go on all night - they made a call and then offered to move us to the 2nd deck - cat. 9 - loved the 2nd deck but still love deck 7 - son is in ocean quest so he would have preferred a room outside of ocean quest - but at least we are near the stairs that take him right to Ocean quest

Well, Krisann it goes like this. On our first cruise ever we got a Cat11 with a Cat12GTY booking and we only had 3 in each room, out little DD4 was with us. We were perfectly fine with just 3 of us in the room w/o a split bath.Basically the DH and I share a bath all the time at home ya know? Now my two teens and one DS6 were next door in basically the same room Cat11 who never share a bath with anyone at home had a fit! :rotfl:

We were also up on Deck7 and loved it. I specifically booked an 11 this time to avoid lower decks, it seemed like a good plan a the time:confused3 I never dreamed people would get 3,4 and 5 Cat upgrades so I asked on my ressie with the TA not to be upgraded as a porthole was not as important to me as a higher deck. :rolleyes1

Basically it worked against me I would have to say! Lowest floor possible in a Cat11, no sideways cabin, and with no kids along I wasn't exactly looking for "near the kids clubs"

I am feeling a little better about it tonight but still kicking myself for asking not to be upgraded just to keep the higher Deck :sad2:

Cat11's are fine for just 2 people and since I never had a split bath I probably won't miss it right?

I'm going on a cruise . . .I'm going on a cruise. . .I'm going on a cruise. . . It's ALL good!

PS spyles? Can I have your Deck7 Cat11? :rotfl2:

I've checked and double checked. Triple and quadruple checked. Then repeated. Checked multiple websites too.

We booked two GTY 11 (inside).

We have room 6544 and Dan's brother and wife are in connecting 6546

Aren't those rooms Category 6 with verandahs? Seems like there are a few other upgrades from 11's to 6's, but since we are both DCL newbies I wasn't expecting much of an upgrade. I'll probably check 30 times tomorrow to make sure I'm not dreaming.

I want to believe it, but I don't want to get my hopes up. We did book in 2008, paid brochure price, have fuel surcharges still on our bill, bought air through DCL, etc...so maybe it's real. But I keep thinking every deck plan I look at is wrong.

Oh...and we finally got our flight information...we didn't know we had to ask to speak to the air department. After 3rd call, they finally transferred us and of course they had our flight information for some time now....

Yeah I finally found my aunt's flight information on the DCL website last night. For my flight they've called me twice and sent e-mails for hers we get nothing but all of a sudden the informations on the website. Who knows how long it was there before I noticed it.

Booked a 12, got a 10 on deck 2. Oh well, a window would have been nice. 2081 for the list.

You are next door to me! I went from 12 to a 10 - room 2083. My main concern though is that it is a connecting room and I hope whoever is in 2085 is quiet at night so I can sleep.

on the WB PC in 2008 we never heard anything from our connecting neighbors but the cabin on the other side I could tell you all about how the mother thought her daughter was ungrateful about the cruise and she wished she had not brought her - we heard their conversations everynight - but never met them. So it is not always the connecting rooms you have to worry about!

It looks like we can get a train from Cadiz to Seville for 12.75 Euros each way. I can take and 8:55 train out and arrive in Seville at 10:48 and then return to Cadiz at 6:08 and arriving at 8:04.

There is one leaving Cadiz at 8:05 AM, but that may be cutting it close.

I looked up our staterooms. We're been given the categories we booked- an 11 and a 12. I'm fine with that and my cabin with dh, and ds is a sideways 11 on deck five very close to the kids clubs club. So I'm very happy with that location and room. My problem is that my Mom and dd have a been assigned a cabin on deck two. I have an e-mail into our TA- hoping that she can get this straightened out for us.

Beth

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but there are no 11's and 12's on the same deck. 12's are only on deck 2. 11's are all over the place.

As far as upgrades, it's seems to have been luck of the dice. My first two cruises I went from a 12 to a 9 (deck 2). This time, I changed my cat 11 (deck 6) to a 12gty for the lower price. I've been upgraded to a 10 on deck 2. Wish I could have gotten a higher deck for once. But I've also liked deck 2 - especially when coming back from excursions - SO MUCH closer to getting to my room.

While there do seem to be quite a few of you on deck 6 - there are also quite a few of us on deck 2. Two floors to party on and that doesn't include deck 9 and 10!!!! ;)

Kristi - who really needs to go to bed now as 7am will be fast approaching.

Dee, we're neighbours :thumbsup2 I'm in 6137.

OK, I booked a cat 12GTY and I got (drum roll......) a cat 11!!!! I guess I can't complain cause I AM sailing solo. I wanted to try an inside cabin to see if 3 of us would fit so I guess this is the perfect opportunity! Oh, room 6089. At least I'm down the hall from you, Dee. I just realized you said you're on the 6th floor, Dee. That is not a cat 12, it's an 11, if it's an inside room. You got pixie dusted a little bit, too!

Yeah neighbors!

And Linda, you're right, I just saw inside stateroom and forgot there's an 11 too! It was a weird day, I guess. So we can bang on your doors for dinner, right? :rotfl2::rotfl2::rotfl2:

I think there was another neighbor somewhere these last pages???:confused3

Krisann, we're on Deck 7 too. :lovestruc
I think it's midship and on the starboard side, which we've heard is a good thing!

Did you have a nice birthday? Birthday cake??

We would love to participate in a group activity where we could possibly meet the ship's officers. Should we create a sign-up?

Are we the only ones on Deck 7??

Krisann

Hi Krisann-

We booked the April 24 Med sailing in December, and for the past two weeks I have been seriously considering adding the TA to our travel plans. Yesterday when I saw the upper categories getting their room assignments I put a Gty 12 on hold through Feb 24th. I haven't even paid Disney yet, and they assigned me and DS (6) cabin 7629 which is Cat 11, and seems to be in a good location. We are first time DCL cruiserrs!

Now I just have to confirm with DH that I can go without him. Every time I talk to him about it he sounds jealous that we get an extended holiday!

Hi everybody. I'm sorry to have provoked such concern! DH can transfer, and he can even walk short distances on good days. We really are delighted with our upgrade, and delighted to be going, period! We are very content, and our TA is going to call again on our behalf, so all's good. Truly! Thanks for your concern,
Ann

I hope that your TA is able to work something out for you guys!

Just got in from work and checked our reservation. Not much of an upgrade (12 to 11), but the room they gave us is a NIGHTMARE! Right beside a laundry room.

I'm calling DCL and getting it changed. I've read several horror stories about the rooms right next to/across from the laundry rooms.

We were across from the laundry once and it was actually a very quiet cruise with no noise, etc.

I am not complaining about our lack of upgrades- but would have assumed the two cabins would be close to each other. I'm guessing there is an error somewhere along the way.

We always have to book 2 cabins due to family size and on a previous cruise were actually assigned different decks, opposite ends of the ship, was awful and hope they can fix it for you.

Are we the only ones on Deck 7??

Krisann

Krisann, belated Happy Birthday to you!

I want to come to your Christmas organization seminar and would also like a spot for mother in law if possible :)

We have two rooms on deck 7.

Since the gty rooms are just gty, they may endup reassigning you to another room and giving your upgrade to them. Anything could be possible until the ship leaves if my understanding of gty (per other posters comments) is correct. Don't want someone who needs one not to have the best cruise possible since they may have paid the some for a gty as everyone else and did not get what may have been needing. Maybe because I need HA, I am just sensitive to others who may not think they need help but do and are afraid to ask or in some cases push for help. Not asking you to give up room just wanted to voice an opinion.

No worries! My sister is wheelchair bound, so I more than understand the need for HA! That's why I suggested slcmom call to see if it was just an oversight that they didn't get assigned to one when people who don't need it are getting them.

Just to clarify, we didn't get an upgrade, we booked a Cat 8 GTY and I believe 6000 is a Cat 8.

Actually DH and I were talking about it earlier, and I'm planning on calling to check and see what's up with it. I'm wondering if somehow because I've travelled to WDW several times with my sister and been requiring of HA's then, there is a note on my file in the Disney Reservation system that I may require HA and they overlooked that I'm travelling with DH not my sister? I know last time I booked a ressie outside of the DVC reservations system, my brothers name turned up on the ressie as the 2nd guest instead of DH so they definitely do keep some sort of files of who's travelled together in the past. I'll keep the room if that's where I'm actually meant to be, but if there are HA requiring people who are stuck in regular rooms we have no prob moving to make sure everyone gets what they need!
