$31 rental for a double stroller.

It's unfortunate for sure.. but with the price of everything going up lately, I'd brace for some price increases at Disney starting with strollers apparently and probably including price increases on some menus and probqably a ticket price increase here before too long.

Nobody likes to hear that but that's what inflation is all about unfortunately.

this does not even effect me but I think it is CRAZY! i feel bad for anyone who has to use these...think about it, not eveyone comes to this board while planning....wow they will be shocked when they get there without their strollers and have TO RENT!i WOULD LEAVE AND GO TO WALMART AND BUY A STROLLER..I think you guys should stroller swap, that would show them you will not pay that price or everyone on this board send a e mail...

For those who planned to rent, why don't you just bring your own? We've done it the past 2 trips and didn't experience any major problems. Worst part is getting it through security at the airport.

We had a huge one that we couldn't fit on a bus. Luckily, we had a rental car last trip. We decided, save $500 on the rental car, and take $130 of that to buy a much more compact double stroller that will fit on the bus.

I have 3 kids. I plan to take a single stroller and rent a double. I just think it would be too much to handle two strollers, 3 kids and our bags (diaper bag and park bag) on the bus.

I could borrow a double stroller, but really my kids are too big for a regular stroller. I like to have the stroller as a fall back on days when we are at the parks all day, and especially at Epcot. I suppose I could look into renting a car and borrowing a double stroller from a friend, but for a 13 day trip, I haven't found a resaonable car rental rate.

I think someone has already started a stroller swap on the budget board. I saw it several days ago.

Yeah, I know what you mean. We have twin one year olds, so a double stroller is a neccessity. We also have a 7 year old, who likes to have a stroller as well. We just figured he was at an age where he could go without one.

I'm in the same boat - Going for 2 weeks and haven't found a decent car rental rate. I think I'm just gonna bite the bullet and spend the $500. With this new rental amount, there are going to be a ton of people trying to get on the buses with strollers. It's gonna be a disaster.

I think A Baby's Best Friend will be getting a lot of new customers. In case you didn't know, you can rent a stroller from them (single or double) for $58 - $85 a WEEK. They deliver the stroller to your resort and you leave it there at the end of your stay for them to pick up. I have used them before and their service is great! Yes, you still have to take it on the bus, but you wouldn't have to lug it on the plane and it is WAY cheaper than a Disney stroller (and it is a nicer stroller). Here's their site: http://www.abbf.com

ETA I always rent a car and bring my own stroller. It was never really an economic decision, we just like to have a car, but now it really seems like the best move money-wise! I can't believe you can rent a car for less than a stroller -- that's crazy!

just trying to remember.....you used to get $ back when you turned your stroller back in. i remember getting disney dollars back. do they still do that? i don't recall getting anything back when renting last year.

if they still do - is the prices they are quoting (in effect on the 6th of april) before or after that "rebate"?

They haven't done this in the last couple of years. If you pay for five days and only use it four days I would think that they'd have to refund you for that fifth day that you aren't using but no 'just because' rebate when you return the stroller.

I understand the price of things going up for things like food, utilities and cost of tickets (that price increase can pay for the rising cost of operating a theme park) but I don't see how a 72% increase for stroller rentals can be justified. This is right up there with downsizing things while raising prices (waffle cones, Dad's Super Sundae, etc.) - I have no major issue with paying more for services but don't shrink what I get and don't expect me to pay almost double and be happy about it.

Knox, I agree, but that big of a price increase for something that really doesn't justify it doesn't make sense. Price increases for tickets, rooms, meals, etc., I can understand. Disney can say, since the price of fuel has gone up, we need to increase the ticket prices to help offset what it costs to keep the buses moving. No, I don't like it, but I can understand it. The strollers, however, don't really require any thing other than a good washing to keep them going. It's not like they need any gas or electricity to get them moving.

Maybe, they are trying to see if the price of fuel can be offset by raising the prices on strollers. If they have a ticket or room price increase it'll be big news. With the economy going south, that news may be what it takes to keep some families away. However, raise the price on strollers, which is not something most people are concerned about, and tuck it away in the website. That way when people show up without a stroller and they have a little one in tow: my guess is a pretty good amount of people will pay it.

As far as I can tell, the current rate of inflation is about 4%.

The single stroller rental went up to $15 per day or $13 for length of stay.
The double is $31 or $27 per day for length of stay!

It's actually cheaper to rent 2 single strollers for length of stay then 1 double!!

Maybe that's what they're aiming for. then they can get rid of them all together.
Who says rate increases have to be justified? for whatever reason Disney has decided to do this, every one has the option of not renting them.

Agreed.. but does anyone know the last time strollers increased? In order to judge any price increase, you have to keep in mind how long it has been since the last increase.

And perhaps Disney has seen a general increase in the 'wear and tear' on these rental units. Yes, they generally just need a good washing but perhaps there has been some problem with the units needing replacing more frequently.. Hard to tell without the full inside info.

What about ECVs? ECV's will take a hit because they require electricity to recharge and I suspect that is going up in price too.. (not sure) Nobody has commented on the price increase on this board, I'm curious what the difference in price was there ...

I agree with everyone.. this jump seems ridiculous to me. But given those prices, I'd BUY a stroller and leave it in Florida at the end of my trip and it would cost a LOT less than renting.

I can just see the 'Stroller Swap' threads sprouting over on the budget board now.. ;)

Can someone who has sent an email post what they wrote and we can send the same message.

I would, but mine wasn't very nice!:rotfl2: Words like "disgusted" "appaled" "corporate greed" "sickened" were used.

I did write too about how they will be loosing the money I would have spent renting a stroller, because I will not pay $31 for one. And I said that the busses and the monorails will all be negatively impacted, because more people will be bringing their own strollers from home.

I honestly hope Disney looses tons of money with this new price increse, and will back the price down somewhat. I can understand a price increase, but to almost double the rate is ridiculous!

I'm glad I saw this thread. I was planning on renting for 18 a day...I thought that it was alot. Now i definitely will bring my own.

I agree with op about ABBF I had a great experience with them and the stroller was much nicer than the Disney rental ones princess:

that is if you do not want to bring your own

The increase is NOT a typo.

I have already called (and they confirmed the increase) and I have E-mailed Disney about this increase.

I mentioned things like:

1. It is cheaper to rent a car for a week than a stroller.
2. Loss revenue for Disney, more people will bring their own
3. Loss revenue becuase guests will leave the park early because they didn't rent and their children can't walk another step.
4. Congestion on the monorail and buses.
5. Renting a stroller is almost as much as a child one-day park admission.

The email address is wdw.guest.communications@disneyworld.com

Sorry that it went up so much-that is why I paid top dollar for the best stroller money could buy with my last child-he weighs over 40 lbs. and is over 3 1/2 ft tall and is not even 2 1/2 yet. (That's him in the avatar and he wasn't even 2 yet-and I had shoulder surgery so it was too hard to carry him)

But, I also have taken my other children when they were 4 and 8 and 12 (and they were a lot smaller) and did not use a stroller cause if they cant walk with me, then I shouldn't be there. When they need a nap, it is just easier to leave or sit down and put them over my lap and let them sleep it off.

Those strollers are huge and I have seen kids that could push their parents around in those things-make 'em walk and wear them out. But, if not, you would be better off going to Wal-mart and buying the double umbrella strollers for less than $50 bucks and then, finding someone at the parks who wants to buy it from you for $20 when you leave-Disney Magic and smaller strollers!!!!!!!Then WDW would come down on the price I bet!

I agree with all of the points made by the PP.
$31 is insane! Yes, you could buy a double stroller for the price of a few days' rental, but when you have older kids, a regular stroller is no longer an option. We rented a double every day on our first trip when kids were 4 & 8, and even on this last trip when they were 5 & 9 we rented here and there, especially on the really hot days. It was nice to have a place for them to sit, to put bags or backpacks, or even for the kids to sit and eat when we were doing a snack or CS on the run.
I understand about inflation, but a jump from $18 to $31 just doesn't seem right.
I'll be emailing the Happiest Place on Earth about my unhappiness. :sad2:
