21 nights in WDW+DXDDP =over 300 food pics!! (& a huge weight gain!)COMPLETED 11/30!

Wolfgang Pucks looks great....another one I'll be trying for the first time this December as well as Goofy's candy co. Yummy!

OMG - I can't wait to go to Goofy's next month. We went for the first time last year. I still don't know how I kept missing this. Well, we used not even go to dtd "cause we are there for a short time. Now we know better!!

I love this dining report! I also love the you update daily. :goodvibes We are doing the DXDP in January and eating at many of the same places.

How many days do you think the treats from Goofy's will hold up? I was thinking of bringing some home as souvineers.

Goofys is a must do for us, I absolutely love their make your own stuff. I think we visited 3 times this trip, so plenty more pics from Goofys to come!

Thank you so much. I have so many places to review, I figured that if I try to update once a day at least it will be complete within a month or so. Otherwise I may still be updating at Christmas!!

I think we kept them for about 4 days, they never went stale, and were still gorgeous on the fourth day.

Subbing!!

Wonderful reviews!!!! I cannot wait for more!!

I was going to say the pumpkin ravioli looked good until I saw the chocolate treats! Yum. :thumbsup2

REALLY enjoying your reviews and the pics. While I'm not vegetarian, I very often find myself choosing vegetarian items because I LOOOOVE me veggies!

Can't wait to see more!

Brad

I really enjoyed reading your reviews so far - they're great!

We just ate at Citricos last week (our final meal before coming home) and we thought it was terrific. I seriously considered ordering the arancini while there ... I love those little suckers and they're hard to find ... but we ended up with the gateau of crab and the feta / shrimp appetizers which were both great, too.

Also, thanks so much for posting the cheese plate. I agonized over whether or not to order it because I love me some cheese but it just didn't sound very good and I thought it was over-priced for just three cheeses.

So I know now that on our next visit we should order the arancini and continue to ignore the cheese! :lmao:

Thanks again for taking the time to post!

Thanks, Goofys treats are definitely the best.

Thank you very much. Hope the reviews help you choose some delicious veggie dishes on your next trip.

Thank you so much. I'm really enjoying your reviews too. I had the gateau of crab last time and it was fab. I think you made the right choice skipping the cheese plate. It wasn't bad but it just wasn't as good as some of the other cheese plates DH had.

I'm a big Boma fan and as we were staying at the Lodge, this was definitely a must do for us.

Last time we were here I couldn't get a reservation until after 9, and we had to wait ages to be sat. This time round we checked in at 7:30, and again expected to have to wait a while. We went to get a drink at Victoria Falls, and no sooner had we sat down, our pager went off.

Our waitress seemed pretty busy but she was friendly and always seemed to be doing something. We ordered drinks which took a while to come out, I went for a Glowtini. I loved this cocktail, again I'm a sucker for any drink with a glowcube, but it was just the right mix of sweetness and alcohol taste.

DH went with the red wine flight. This was $12 and was an absolute bargain, as he got pretty big pours of each wine. The flight consisted of a Cabernet Savignon which neither of us liked much, Bored Doe Blend which was my favourite, and a Porcupine Ridge Merlot which was DH's favourite.
bom_wine.jpg

While we were waiting for drinks, I went up to the buffet to get us a first plate. I got DH carrot and ginger soup, this was very sweet and you didn't really get much of a ginger taste.
boma_soup.jpg

I got some cold salads to start, Cous Cous(good, sweet and fruity), lentil salad which was Puy lentils, (also good but I love lentils anyway), and Pasta Salad which I really enjoyed. The sauce tasted a bit like a Coronation Chicken sauce (without the chicken), like a mild, fruity, sweet curry.
bom_salad.jpg

DHs second plate, starting from the top: Pap (nice, tasted like solid semolina, but quite grainy), Cous Cous with roasted vegetables (nice, but nothing special), cornbread (good), lentil salad which he enjoyed, the same pasta salad I had earlier, which he also really liked and described as very moreish and falafel (very good but the outside was tougher than usual).
bom1.jpg

My second plate, again starting from the top: Cornbread (I pretty much always enjoy cornbread), Bobotie which was very good, with a nice combination of sweet and savoury flavours, fufu (very good and very sweet), Pita bread to dip in the Sundried tomato and White Bean hummus (both good but I preferred the White Bean), some more pasta salad, kool slai (ok) and falafel in the middle.
bom2.jpg

I was full by this time but DH had another plate. Lavosh to eat with the same types of hummus I tried, the olive hummus. He liked all the hummus but the olive was too strong tasting for me, more pasta salad (told you it was moreish!!), falafel and fufu.
bom3.jpg

While DH was munching his way through this, I went to check out the desserts. I chose a zebra dome (good as always), chocolate mousse (nice flavour and good creamy texture), pineapple cheesecake which was smooth, creamy and very sweet. My favourite was the Banana bread pudding which I put chocolate rum sauce on, this was really good with a good banana flavour, very soft and sweet. It was similar to the one served at Tusker House, and again I could have just eaten that for dessert and been very happy.
bom_des1.jpg

DH then went up for his own plate of desserts. He tried Cocomisu which you could taste the liquor and coffee in the base, with a nice creamy texture. He also said you could taste the coconut but it wasn't too strong.
He also tried the bread pudding but poured vanilla sauce over half, and chocolate rum sauce over the other half, he also really enjoyed it and preferred the chocolate rum sauce, even though you couldn't really taste the rum.
He had a fruit tart where the custard filling was nice but the pasty a bit oily and a Pyramid of some sort, which should have had amarula flavouring but it was quite dry and not particularly flavourful.
bom_des2.jpg

Overall we really enjoyed Boma again. I'm a big fan of African food anyway and I think there's a good selection of dishes here, and for a vegetarian there's a vast array of choice. Again, one we'll definitely keep returning to.

Great reviews, thanks! I can't wait for the next ones.
I am beginning to think I know what my problem was with Boma...I didn't try anything I actually knew what it tasted like. Your plates looked fabulous! I am a fanatic of hummus and I should have tried them...oh well, I guess I HAVE to go back...bummer.

Excellent reviews, as usual.

Question re: Boma: DH and I don't care for curries and we don't like savoury food with sweet flavors. We do like a lot of spice in our food, though. We are currently scheduled for dinner at Boma on our last night and I am afraid that we will not like it after reading all of the reviews mentioning sweetish foods and curries. We do like Ethiopian food but that is mostly spicy and we enjoy hummus and falafel. What do you think are our chances of being disappointed?

Thank you very much. I'm a hummus fan too and although I prefer normal chickpea hummus, Boma's variations were good. I was very happy to find them in the concierge lounge later in the trip.

Boma looks really great, can't wait to try it for the first time.

It was good, hope you enjoy it.

Excellent reviews, as usual.

Thank you very much. A lot of what I tasted did have a mix of sweet and savoury, but that's a combination of tastes I really like so may have gravitated towards those kinds of dishes. I didn't taste anything that was spicy apart from bizzarly enough the falafel, which were spicier than I was expecting. However I'm a total wimp with spices so you may not find them spicy at all. There was a section of meats like prime rib and salmon and stuff, which may have been completely savoury and possibly had a bit of spice to them.

There is a large selection so I'm sure you'd find something you like, but I have a feeling Disney tone down the spiciness of dishes to ensure they appeal to the majority of diners. Sorry that probably wasn't much help.

Today we decided to use up a spare dining credit on a Mickey Waffle from the Mara. This was much better than the first one we tried, not too crispy this time.
mara_waffle.jpg

DH isn't a huge waffle fan so got another Chocolate Twist as a snack credit. He really liked this again, describing it as flaky pastry, mixed with plenty of choc chips and big sugar crystals on top.

After spending the morning running round a relatively crowd free Magic Kingdom, we checked in for our 11:30 reservation at Tony's Town Square a few minutes early. We waited a few minutes in the waiting area, then we were the first party seated in the restaurant.

Our waiter seated us and brought us drinks very quickly. I liked the decor in here, and as it was so early it was pretty quiet throughout our lunch. I decided not to bother with an appetiser but DH fancied the Mushroom Soup.

This came out around 30 seconds after we ordered, and was actually really good. It had a nice creamy consistency, big pieces of mushroom and a strong mushroom flavour. It was so good I kept stealing spoonfuls of it, and was a bit jealous I hadn't ordered my own.
tts_soup.jpg

For my entree I went for the Chicken Parmigiana. This was quite a big piece of lightly breaded chicken, covered with mozerella cheese, on a bed of spaghetti. The marinara sauce was pretty bland, but overall this was an ok dish, nothing outstanding but nice. It was also a pretty big portion with a lot of spaghetti, this was another dish where I left about half.
tts_parm.jpg

DH was torn between the Vegetable Calzone and the Bianca Flatbread. He eventually chose the flatbread and then wished he's picked the calzone. The flatbread was just ok, he said the flavour was good but the cheese was a bit plasticy.
tts_bianca.jpg

For dessert I chose the Pistachio Creme Brulee. I couldn't taste any pistachio in the Creme Brulee, but it was served with a little tuille basket of pistachios and strawberries on the side. The creme brulee was very good, with a nice thick, creamy texture and thick burnt sugar topping.
tts_creme.jpg

DH chose tiramisu. Again he said this was ok, very creamy but you couldn't really taste much coffee in it, and he didn't think it had any type of alcohol in it.
tts_tiram.jpg

Overall this was an ok lunch, not bad but not particularly great either. The mushroom soup and creme brulee were very good, everything else was just average. Service was good, and although we didn't feel particularly rushed we were in and out within 40 minutes. We would probably return for lunch at some point, but I think we'll try the Plaza next time.

Another great installment. I've never tried Tony's because it just looks so average, something I could get at home. Now on the other hand the creme brulee looked really good.
Diane

mmm I love the panni's and tomatoe and mozza salad and tony's...can't wait to go back...:goodvibes

I was actually going to try one of the panni's, may be if we return I'll get one.

Great update.

Thank you very much.

Thank you very much. It was a pretty average meal, but the creme brulee was definitely the highlight!

After getting back to AKL around 2ish DH decided he fancied ice cream. We used a snack credit at The Mara and split a Mickey Ice Cream sandwich which was yum as always.

Tonight we had a reservation at Brown Derby. This was the only signature restaurant we'd never tried, mainly because it never seemed that good value for two credits on the normal DDP. On the deluxe plan however, we had so many credits it seemed a great opportunity to give it a try.

We arrived a few minutes late for our 7:20 reservation, and waited for about five minutes before being seated. It was actually really busy, and they were turning away walk ups. I wasn't feeling to good at this point, but was hoping I was just a little dehydrated, and would feel better when I got some water.

After we were seated towards the back of the restaurant our waitresss greeted us quickly and offered drinks. I definitely wasn't feeling up to ordering wine, but couldn't resist trying a cocktail. I chose the Peachtree punch which was good, nice and sweet. I began to feel worse as the meal went on so I'm afraid to say most of this cocktail was wasted.
HBD_drink.jpg

DH decided to order the Wine Flight. I thought this was a rip off, the wines were good but the pours weren't exactly generous for $20. Boma's flight was much better value and even our waitress commented it was expensive when she ran up the check.
hbd_wine.jpg

We got a couple of crusty rolls to munch on while we waited for our apps. These were really nice, and I was glad to get some food on my stomach.

I went for the seared sea scallop as an appetiser. This was a tiny appetiser, with just the one scallop but it was really, really good. The scallop was perfectly cooked, and it's sweetness paired beautifully with the salty bacon. The corn risotto it was served on was a bit bland but ok.
hbd_sca.jpg

The only vegetarian appetiser was a salad. This was a bit disappointing as my DH isn't a huge salad lover, but he actually quite enjoyed this. He said the cabernet vinaigrette was really tasty, and the addition of candied pecans added a lot of flavour.
hbd_salad.jpg

For my entree I chose the Pan Fried Grouper which was recommended by our waitress. I can't really offer a proper review of this dish, as I was feeling awful by this point, had a couple of bites and then spent the rest of the time in the restroom!! From the bite I had it seemed flavourful and well cooked.
hbd_fish.jpg

DH got the noodle bowl with coconut crusted tofu. He said this was really tasty, the tofu had tons of flavour from the coconut, and the broth it was in was good as well. Basically he really enjoyed this dish, even though while he ate it he was sorting out dessert to go and the check (I was still in the restroom at this point).
hbd_tofu.jpg

Our waitress was great about getting our dessert to go and check quickly when DH told her I wasn't feeling well. We caught a taxi home (I couldn't face waiting around for a bus) and then DH ate his dessert in the room.

He had the Banana White Chocolate Toffee Tower, which although it looks a bit of a mess in the picture was fabulous. It consisted of soft banana, a very creamy filling with hints of chocolate, a chocolate biscuit base drizzled with toffee sauce and served with a vanilla cookie. DH loved this and ate every last bite.
hbd_ban.jpg

DH ordered the Flourless Chocolate Cake for me. Again I only had a couple of bites, but it tasted good. Very rich, dense cake which almost had a slight coffee flavour to me, and was very prettily presented. As well as the white chocolate princess decoration, there was a painted milk chocolate swirl as well.
hbd_choc.jpg

Overall DH enjoyed his meal and I loved my appetiser, but felt to ill to enjoy the rest of the meal. I think we would return, just so I can experience it properly but from the little we experienced, felt it wasn't quite up to the quality of some other signature restaurants. It will be somewhere we go back to, but it's not a must do for us.
