21 nights in WDW+DXDDP =over 300 food pics!! (& a huge weight gain!)COMPLETED 11/30!

Great update...can't wait for Y&Y!!!:cool1:

Thank you very much. I'll get Yak n Yeti done today.

Goofy's looks amazing!

It is so good. I think it's worth a trip to DTD for Goofys alone!

Hmmm.... I might be adding that. :ssst:

Another wonderful and delicious update!:thumbsup2

Thank you very much.

Oh that looks yummy!! I'll have to remember that when we go to Coral Reef!!

It was pretty good, and a much lighter dessert than my favourite, The Chocolate Wave.

Great updates!!! Your pictures of Goofy's is really making me crave a rice crispy treat!!

Thank you. I'm constantly craving those dipped Pretzel Rods at the minute!

Today's breakfast was courtesy of using more snack credits at The Mara. This time I had a Cheese Danish, which was good and DH had yet another Chocolate Twist, which he loved again.

The weather was a bit showery today and AK was absolutely dead. After getting a little wet but riding pretty much everything, we checked in for our 11:30 reservation at Yak n Yeti.

There were a few people already seated, but most of the restaurant was empty. It started to fill up slightly while we were eating, but there were still tons of empty tables when we left.

They had an interesting drink menu here and I think the most difficult decision I had here was what cocktail to get! I decided on the Bonsai Blast and although I can't remember the ingredients it had a good sweet and sour flavour. DH had a bottle of Tiger beer.
yak_drink.jpg

Our server was pretty good here, we were greeted quite quickly and each course was timed well.

For an appetiser I chose the Seared Ahi Tuna. This was cold, rare tuna with a sesame seed crust. I liked the tuna, it had a good flavour about it, although I prefer seared tuna served hot as I think it is more flavourful that way. The wasabi sauce was too spicy for me but the soy type sauce was good for dipping the tuna in. It was served on top of a slaw which I wasn't particularly keen on but overall this was a nice appetiser.
yak_tuna.jpg

The only vegetarian appetiser was the Wok Fried Green beans with a sweet chili dipping sauce. These were so good, and you got a big portion which was good because I stole quite a few from DH. They were very crispy and the batter was very thin and light, which didn't overpower the taste of the beans. The dipping sauce had a bit of a kick to it, but the beans were so good I didn't even need the sauce. Both of us really enjoyed this appetiser.
yak_beans.jpg

There was no vegetarian entree on the menu, so DH asked our server what he could have. He said they could make the lo mein vegetarian so DH went with that. While we were finishing our appetisers the manager came out, asked what he had ordered and if he would like tofu with it. DH said yes that would be great, but about five minutes later our entrees arrive, and DH's has no tofu:confused3
DH wasn't too bothered, just confused about why the heck the conversation with the manager actually took place. Anyway he enjoyed this dish, he said there were plenty of noodles and lots of different vegetables but it lacked flavour. He added some soy sauce and said it was much better. It was a huge portion and he didn't come close to finishing it.
yak_veg.jpg

There were a few dishes I fancied trying but decided to go with something simple, the Crispy Honey Chicken with Jasmine rice. This tasted like a pretty average chinese dish, good but nothing special. Again this was a big portion, the chicken was good if a little dry and the batter was pretty good. The honey sauce was quite bland but the jasmine rice was good. It came with some broccoli, which is one of my favourite vegetables so I was disappointed that it was really hard as it just hadn't been cooked for quite long enough.
yak_chick.jpg

For dessert we got the Chocolate Brownie Sundae to share. This was a dish we both enjoyed, and again it was a big portion. It was vanilla icecream, drizzled with chocolate sauce, topped with whipped cream and there were loads of big chunks of brownie in it.
yak_sund.jpg

Overall we had a mixed experience at this restaurant. I love the decor and theming of the restaurant, and certain dishes were really good (the beans and the brownie sundae stand out) while others were average. No dish was bad though and I think this is a nice addition to Animal Kingdom ,which would be even better if there were at least a vegetarian entree on the menu. We would go back (even if it was just to try those fried beans again), but I think compared to Tusker House we enjoyed Tusker more.

Coming up next, our dinner at Flying Fish.

Well I was quite disappointed to read this review and others I read that are similar, we were excited to try Yak & Yeti out on our December trip but I'm beginning to think it might be a better use of our Dining credit to use elsewhere? We have a 4:45 seating at this spot, with the AK closing at 5:00 and Y&Y being at the back of the park we thought it would be fun to exit AK after close, being empty and all. What would be your recommendation to us on this? Would a different choice be in order or would it be a good enough food choice to get to enjoy AK after closing?? Thanks for the great reviews, I've learned a ton reading them. :goodvibes

We will also be eating at Y&Y on our upcoming trip. I think DH would like the tuna appetizer, it sounds like his type of thing. I'm sorry that it wasn't the best experience for you. Have a great day!

The chocolate twist looks so great!

It's difficult to say, it certainly wasn't a bad experience, but just a pretty average one. I think it may have been our food choices contributing to it as well, veg lo mein will never be the most exciting dish and honey chicken is a pretty standard chinese dish. I think if we were to return I would choose something a bit more interesting, like the pho which may be a better dish. Those green beans were really good and I would go back just for them, but if you're a fan of Boma or African type food I would recommend Tusker House, above Yak n Yeti.

The chocolate twist looks so great!

Hope he enjoys the tuna, and hope you enjoy Yak n Yeti. The chocolate twist was good.

That Sundae looks so yummy!

It was really good, I was pretty full by the time it arrived so didn't eat much, but DH ensured none went to waste!

If you were on the DDP, were you asked or made to share the sundae? I've heard conflicting reports about how the sundae is only available to share for two people, and that one person could not order this alone. Any truth to this from your perspective?

It was only available to share between 2, so it used up both of our 'dessert' credits ordering the sundae. To be honest, I'm glad it was as there was no way we could have eaten one each!

Thanks so much for your great reviews! I can't tell you how much I'm enjoying them...

Those fried green beans look really good, we're thinking of doing a combo of appetizers for lunch.:goodvibes

Hope you guys enjoyed FF as much as we always do, looking forward to your reviews!:)

Thanks for that. It's a shame, but it does look too big for one person. ;)

Just got caught up. Sorry you were disappointed in Y&Y. I want to try it though.
I'm glad you were only ill for the one night! I hope your tummy didn't act up again?!
Does your hubby have cravings for the chocolate twists now that you are home?
Looking forward to more!

wow that sundae is huge!! Looks yummy too!

I'd like to try Y&Y sometime, but not this trip. too much to do in not enough time.

They were really good, an appetiser combo sounds like a really good idea, as there were a fair few apps I would have liked to try.

Thanks, I was so happy I felt better the next morning. Unfortunately I was ill again but much later in the holiday, and luckily again just for the one night. We're both definitely craving chocolate twist, goofys treats and just all the yummy food we ate in Disney.

It was huge, and very good.

We'd only eaten at Flying Fish once before, and although the food was fantastic the service totally sucked. Tonight I was hoping both would be spot on, and I definitely wasn't disappointed!

We arrived about 10 minutes early and checked in at the podium outside, the hostess told us to wait inside and we were seated very quickly. The place was really busy, with very few empty tables.

Our waiter greeted us immediately and delivered excellent service all night. He was obviously very experienced as all food and drinks were timed perfectly, and the whole meal was very well paced.

We were going to just order a bottle of wine, but then I spied the cocktail menu and decided I had to try yet another cocktail. This time I got a bellini, which is one of my favourite cocktails. This one was ok, but was made with a thick peach puree rather than the Peach Scnhapps I'm more accustomed to. The puree was a bit too thick and sweet but it was still a good drink.

DH decided he was going to order the cheese selection (again) but this time it was offered with a wine flight. The flight consisted of a Port, Maderia and Sherry for $11. They were supposed to be 1oz pours but they were pretty generous, and he drank these throughout the meal, even though we both had a glass of red with the entree.
ff_flight.jpg

On to the cheese DH really enjoyed this selection and said it was one of the best of the holiday. He said there was a good balance of hard and soft cheese and a good balance of flavours. The accompaniments were good too with raisins, honey and fig and onion compote, with honey pairing exceptionally well with blue cheese.

The cheese descriptions:

After the fantastic Tuna Tartare at Narcoosees, I fancied getting it again so went with the Yellowfin Tuna Tartare with Far Eastern Accentuations - Hijiki seaweed, Yuzu Tobikko, Sweet-Spicy Miso Sauce, Wasabi-Cilantro Oil, Sesame Crisps. This was really good but it wasn't quite up to Narcoosees standard, it just didn't quite have the same melt in your mouth consistency but it was still a very good appetiser.
ff_tuna.jpg

For my entree I went for the Scallops on an Artichoke, basil and Mascarpone risotto. Honestly it's hard to find the words to describe this dish, because it was just so utterly fantastic. There were 3 scallops which were beautifully cooked, and had a crispy seared outside. The risotto was so creamy with an absolutely perfect, soft texture and so rich (I would have still loved this dish if it had just been the risotto, it was that good). It also came with mushrooms and pancetta to add a different texture and flavour. Except for V&A, this was the best entree of the trip.
ff_scallops.jpg

DH had the Ligurian Trofie Pasta with Heirloom Tomatoes, Chantrelle Mushrooms, Basil, Tomato Compote, Truffle-Based Oil, and Pecorino Toscano. He said this was a good dish, with some fantastic individual flavours but it didn't quite come together as a whole. He said the sunblushed tomatoes were very tasty, but the mushroom flavours were overpowered by the oil and just lost in the dish. So a good, but not great dish.
ff_veg.jpg

I really wanted the Chocolate Peanut Butter bread pudding but I was so full from the risotto (that I just couldn't bear to leave) I decided to go for something lighter. I chose the Study in Fall Pears which was a very nice dessert. This consisted of a tiny poached pear filled with white chocolate mousse which was really good and the sweetness of the mousse paired well with the soft texture of poached pear. A pear crumble which was nice and a pancake/pastry type thing, filled with pear, raisins and cinnamon which was very tasty. There was also little patches of caramel sauce which added a sweetness to the dish.
ff_pear.jpg

DH chose an Apple Tart which was good. Nice, thick, crumbly pastry contrasting with fresh apple flavours. It was served with cinnamon ice cream which was good but could have been a bit stronger.
ff_des.jpg

Overall we both really enjoyed this meal. I like the decor and ambiance of the restaurant but it does have a tendancy to be quite loud. When we were there it was almost exclusively adults and everyone was dressed smartly. The service was good and nicely paced, and the food was very, very good. This is definitely on our must do list for next time.

I am so glad you loved FF too! We ate there last month and loved it! I had a tough time decided between the snapper and the scallops, I chose the snapper but subbed the risotto from the scallop dish and agree, it was to die for!

It was fab wasn't it! I had the red snapper last time and can only imagine how good that would have been with the risotto.

So I'm a little behind, but that Bonzai Blast looks delicious!! Right up my ally! (I have a thing for blue drinks!)

Nicki has also turned me onto the new FF dish "snapper with risotto"!:rotfl: Oh how I wish we were going back to FF next week, but we vowed to try all new places. Glad to see you really enjoyed FF as much as we did!:thumbsup2

FF looks great. I wish I could have that scallop dish with the risotto right now. :goodvibes
