Today we used a couple more of our snack credits. I got the Yogurt with Granola, which was again a good blend of natural yogurt, sweet granola, fresh strawberries and raisins.
DH had a cinnamon roll, which he said was good.
We spent the morning looking round DTD and checked in to Wolfgang Pucks Cafe at 12:00. It wasn't busy at all and we were seated straightaway.
Our waiter was efficient and pretty friendly, but he really tried to push us to order wine. I think we told him a couple of time we just wanted soft drinks, and he still kept telling us the wine pairing for each dish.
I ordered crab cakes as an appetiser, as I adore crab cakes and hadn't eaten any yet this trip. These were really good, with big chunks of crab, and a nice crunchy breading outside. They were served with a tomato relish and basil aioli. It was a very tasty dish which was slightly spiced, but not too hot.
DH ordered the vegetable spring rolls. He said these were tasty enough, but could have done with a bit more spice or something to add a bit of a kick. The pastry was nice and crunchy, plenty of veg inside but the beetroot dipping sauce was a bit bland.
For my main I didn't want anything to heavy, and our waiter said the Fresh Local Fish of the Day - Served on a bed of warm couscous salad, lemon caper butter was quite a light dish. The fish was Mahi Mahi, and it was very fresh, nicely seared and plenty of taste. The cous cous was Israeli cous cous I think, and it was good, and there was loads of vegetables including pieces of courgette, mushroom, pepper, squash and aubergine. The sauce had a nice, non overpowering lemon flavour, and was quite tangy which went well with the dish. It was a light dish but the portion was too big for me and I wasn't able to come anywhere a near finishing it.
DH had the pumpkin ravioli which he described as very sweet. I had a taste and it was an incredibly rich, sweet pumpkin filling so I would only reccommend it if you don't mind sweet tasting savoury dishes. Although it didn't look a particularly big portion, he said given the richness it was a bit too large. I think the brown drizzle was a port wine glaze but it had no real flavour and didn't add anything to the dish. His overall rating of this dish was just ok.
As I was pretty full by now I wasn't going to bother with DH, however when DH said I wasn't allowed to share his I decided to get my own! Our waiter reccommended the sugar free berry cobbler so I decided to go with that. The cobbler itself was very good with tangy berries working well with sweet, thick pastry. However the ice cream was so strongly spiced with cinammon I couldn't eat it. I love cinammon but this was crazy strong, and totally overpowered the cobbler. I would definitely get this dish again but I'd order it with vanilla icecream instead.
DH got the Creme Brulee which wasn't great. I think it was just a bad batch that had been overcooked, as the texture was ok but it almost had a faint taste of scrambled eggs. It wasn't terrible but it definitely wasn't a good creme brulee.
Overall I really enjoyed my meal (apart from the cinamon icecream), but DH wasn't too impressed with his. We'd still go back, but DH would just choose different dishes.
While we were at DTD we stopped at Goofys to get a couple of Make Yor Own Treats. I got a Mickey Rice Crispy Head dipped in dark chocolate, covered with reeses pieces and sprinkles, drizzled with white chocolate.
DH got a cookie, dipped in dark chocolate, sprinkled with oreo crumbs and butterfingers, drizzled with caramel.
Mine held up a bit better than DH's who's caramel drizzle stuck to the box a little. Both of these were really good, an absolute sugar overload and we nibbled on them for the next couple of days.
Coming up next, our dinner at Boma
