After our Boma breakfast we headed to Typhoon Lagoon for the morning. We arrived before it opened and I'm glad we did as the place was absolutely packed by 11, with people just pouring in. By 12 we were ready to leave and because we had breakfast at Boma I hadn't booked a TS meal for lunch.
We decided that instead of going for a CS somewhere, we would try to get a walk up at a Table service place. I suggested The Wave because a) I really wanted to try it and b) I'd read on here it wasn't too busy so I thought we might get lucky with a walk-up.
We arrived at the Contemporary around 12:30, and luckily I was right about The Wave not being busy. We were seated immediately, and although there were quite a few parties in there were plenty of unoccupied tables.
I really liked the decor and here, from the entrance, the lounge and the restuarant itself. It was very modern and quite chic. I also really liked the atmosphere here, it was exclusively adult diners which made the restaurant pretty quiet, and as a lot of diners were conventioners, people were actually quiet smart for a lunch time spot. In fact looking around the room, I felt underdressed in shorts and a tank top.
Our waitress appeared quickly and explained what was included with the dxddp. Smoothies and milkshakes counted as a drink so we both ordered the Mega Berry Smoothie. This was really good, very thick and fruity.
We weren't too hungry so decided to split the Seasonal Mixed Greens with baby mozzarella and red wine vinaigrette. This was just ok for me, the mozzarella was quite bland and there wasn't too much of it, and the viniagrette was too tart for me. DH enjoyed it more than me and finished most of it.
I chose a chicken sandwich served on toasted bread, with potato wedges. This was pretty good with moist chicken breast, large slices of tomato and a spicy goats cheese spread. I also liked the wedges which were crispy on the outside, soft in the middle but they were quite salty.
DH chose the vegetable stew. He said this had some nice flavours but wasn't anything special. It had plenty of veg in it, but the rice was multigrain and slightly too hard.
The course I was most looking forward to here was dessert. I'd seen some yum looking pictures and was looking forward to trying them for myself.
The dessert menu:
I chose the Decadent selection. The chocolate mousse with salted caramel sauce had a very good combination of sweet and salty, and a light chocolatey mousse. The blueberry compote with yogurt gelato, of which the gelato was really good, the compote had a good tangy flavour but was much runnier than I was expecting. The lemon cornbread with vanilla panna cotta, had a good lemon flavour but was a little too dry.
DH had the Creamy Indulgence. The chocolate passion fruit mousse was nice, but not as good as the mousse in my selection. He said the coconut panna cotta had plenty of flavour, but he really only loved the cheesecake which was served with a raspberry coulis. This was sweet and creamy, with the coulis adding a tartness, a very well balanced and tasty dessert.
Overall we enjoyed our lunch here, and I was glad we were able to fit in a visit. The food was good, service fine and although not a must do, we will definitely be back at some point for a nice, relaxing lunch.
