Today's breakfast was courtesy of using more snack credits at The Mara. This time I had a Cheese Danish, which was good and DH had yet another Chocolate Twist, which he loved again.
The weather was a bit showery today and AK was absolutely dead. After getting a little wet but riding pretty much everything, we checked in for our 11:30 reservation at Yak n Yeti.
There were a few people already seated, but most of the restaurant was empty. It started to fill up slightly while we were eating, but there were still tons of empty tables when we left.
They had an interesting drink menu here and I think the most difficult decision I had here was what cocktail to get! I decided on the Bonsai Blast and although I can't remember the ingredients it had a good sweet and sour flavour. DH had a bottle of Tiger beer.
Our server was pretty good here, we were greeted quite quickly and each course was timed well.
For an appetiser I chose the Seared Ahi Tuna. This was cold, rare tuna with a sesame seed crust. I liked the tuna, it had a good flavour about it, although I prefer seared tuna served hot as I think it is more flavourful that way. The wasabi sauce was too spicy for me but the soy type sauce was good for dipping the tuna in. It was served on top of a slaw which I wasn't particularly keen on but overall this was a nice appetiser.
The only vegetarian appetiser was the Wok Fried Green beans with a sweet chili dipping sauce. These were so good, and you got a big portion which was good because I stole quite a few from DH. They were very crispy and the batter was very thin and light, which didn't overpower the taste of the beans. The dipping sauce had a bit of a kick to it, but the beans were so good I didn't even need the sauce. Both of us really enjoyed this appetiser.
There was no vegetarian entree on the menu, so DH asked our server what he could have. He said they could make the lo mein vegetarian so DH went with that. While we were finishing our appetisers the manager came out, asked what he had ordered and if he would like tofu with it. DH said yes that would be great, but about five minutes later our entrees arrive, and DH's has no tofu
DH wasn't too bothered, just confused about why the heck the conversation with the manager actually took place. Anyway he enjoyed this dish, he said there were plenty of noodles and lots of different vegetables but it lacked flavour. He added some soy sauce and said it was much better. It was a huge portion and he didn't come close to finishing it.
There were a few dishes I fancied trying but decided to go with something simple, the Crispy Honey Chicken with Jasmine rice. This tasted like a pretty average chinese dish, good but nothing special. Again this was a big portion, the chicken was good if a little dry and the batter was pretty good. The honey sauce was quite bland but the jasmine rice was good. It came with some broccoli, which is one of my favourite vegetables so I was disappointed that it was really hard as it just hadn't been cooked for quite long enough.
For dessert we got the Chocolate Brownie Sundae to share. This was a dish we both enjoyed, and again it was a big portion. It was vanilla icecream, drizzled with chocolate sauce, topped with whipped cream and there were loads of big chunks of brownie in it.
Overall we had a mixed experience at this restaurant. I love the decor and theming of the restaurant, and certain dishes were really good (the beans and the brownie sundae stand out) while others were average. No dish was bad though and I think this is a nice addition to Animal Kingdom ,which would be even better if there were at least a vegetarian entree on the menu. We would go back (even if it was just to try those fried beans again), but I think compared to Tusker House we enjoyed Tusker more.
Coming up next, our dinner at Flying Fish.
