2026 Strength Training Accountability Thread

Last post was Wednesday (day) concerning Tuesday night's workout. Wednesday night was a break day.

Last night - Unconventional Day
30 min high intensity elliptical followed by back extension machine, glute machine, three sets of 10 lifts in the captain's chair, and then floor work for core and glutes on a mat with a ball and a 25 lb dumbbell. I did my norm with this...
1. three sets of flows going through held "toe" touch (I actually reach beyond that for a deeper stretch) into downward dog, into plank for 60 seconds and back through DD to toe touch.
2. three sets on the floor with the ball doing leg extensions followed by 15-20 second horizontal hold. Hard to describe this, but I lay down on my back, then lift my upper back just barely off the the ground to engage my core, hold the exercise ball between my lower legs to do 10 leg extensions like the quad machine, and then with my back still off the ground I lower the ball - extend my arms for balance - and hold the ball a few inches off the ground for 15-20 seconds keeping my core engaged and doing the bulk of the work.
3. Three sets of adductor style squeezes of the ball followed by a held inner thigh straddle stretch for about a minute.
4. Put the 25 lb dumbbell over my hips/pelvis and do three sets of 15 hip/glute raises/thrusts where I hold the last one and lock the muscles for about 10-20 seconds. I usually rest the weight on my lower abs in between sets so that it's "lifting" that weight as I breath.
5. Forgot...also did what I've dubbed the "ball roll." I lay on my back, lift the ball with my feet, raise my legs in the air so I'm creating a 90 degree angle, lift my back a smidge off the ground, and then use my feet/legs to roll the ball back and forth up and down the interior of each leg. Hard to describe without seeing it, but it works inner thighs, hips, and keeps the abs firing the entire time.

This morning - Arm/Upper Body
As I said before, I normally gym at night but DD has softball tonight. So, I'm going to suit up with my 14 pound camera bag after work and put together a 6 mile route to take me from home to the school since I'm testing a new lens and my gear pack can function like a weighted vest. In any event, that meant gym in the morning. I have a Planet Fitness black membership since we travel a lot for DD and sports and it's been the best for giving me gym access all over the country. In any even, we have two locations in our town. The one closer to our house is transitioning to PF equipment...meaning it still has a lot of old stuff that's seen better days. I normally only go there if weather is bad and I need a treadmill for my morning miles. I decided to hit it up for a normal workout this morning and I'm regretting it. Sure, it was a 3 minute drive vs. a 12 minute drive, but the equipment is awful.
- Started with 30 minutes high intensity elliptical...the machine was more like something you'd find in a hotel gym that has been heavily used and abused, with minimal maintenance.
- I forgot that I was supposed to do legs today. I ended up doing arms...which may be an omen since the circuit machines were also not great. I did sets on the chest press, delts, triceps, row, lats, biceps, and then finished on a ridiculously cruddy crunch machine. It's better than nothing but I don't feel like I got in a good workout. I'll probably be hurting tomorrow simply because the machines are angled a bit differently than the ones I'm used to...which I guess could be a good thing.

Thank you for letting me share my novel 🤣

Here for my Friday check-in, M,W,F completed as scheduled so I am happy. Almost time to call it a habit but don’t want to go that far yet. I was a bit sore after mondays long run followed by a full body strength workout but recovered and feel pretty good after this AM. Now that the temps are into the 20s I can head out for an easy five miles
