2016 Destash - The more things you own, the more they own you

Big Yard Sale tomorrow!! Hoping to sell it all!! Whatever does not sell will be donated with a couple of exceptions.

Already sold by toolbox for 50.00!! Off to a good start :)

Will keep everyone posted on how it goes

Good luck at your yard sale tomorrow! :wizard:

My DH continues to do a great job in the garage. He has sorted through several items and has them boxed up for recycling and scrapping next week. Yesterday, we threw out 2 more garbage bags of junk as well.

Over the next week or so, we are going to go back through the house again. We'll be looking for more items to sell, donate, and throw away if necessary.

Sale is done!! Made just about 300 dollars. Other than a toolbox (50), Electric Impact Drill (35), and a bunch of sockets (20), everything else was pretty much 1 dollar or less.

Got rid of a ton of stuff but it did not seem like it as I was packing everything up. :sad2:

Very low turnout today, saw maybe 40 people total. Everything was packed up and brought to the donation center right after the sale with the exception of the oak hutch, oak TV stand, Dovetail joint maker, and one item that has to go back to a relative. I have to say the guy at the Humane Society was excited to get my car load of stuff!!

It has been about 3 or 4 years since I had a yard sale (the only reason I did it this time is I had a bunch of tools and the like to get rid of). I will just start donating everything again, when a box is full just bring it in instead of stockpiling the boxes/totes again.

The weather cooperated nicely!!

If while distashing someone is getting rid of their A Musical History of Disneyland set, let me know! I have the CD's and record, but not the book.

:tigger:

Morning all! Haven't had much time to decluttering lately other than in small bits and starts, but Mother Nature had decided that I probably won't be doing any yard work today nor will I be doing any laundry (I hang most of it outside), so I will be cleaning my bedroom! It is ALWAYS ALWAYS the last room cleaned EVER and it is desperately in need. I don't see a TON of decluttering happening, but maybe I'll surprise myself! Also planning a deep cleaning of my bathroom and DS's bathroom..... again, probably not much to declutter but I might be pleasantly surprised!

Off to make breakfast and have coffee number 2 so I am ready to go! I'll report back later!..........P

I won't read back, because it would take me all day. However, my husband and I are in the process of reorganizing our house. He won't get rid of his books, and so we need to better store them. Today, I bought two really nice bookcases from Target. Our biggest dilemma is what to do with all the VHS tapes we have accumulated. Don't want to just trash them.

I feel like I've been a slacker hostess! We've been trying to get stuff organized, rummage sale sorting is in full swing, I took another car load from my house last week. I have 4 bikes in the yard that need to go tomorrow.
I did go through my running clothes and purged a bunch of stuff so that was good.
I've also been learning how to reglaze windows in preparation to paint the outside of the house. But we are having trouble deciding on the color so I am off to the paint store again tomorrow for more swatches.

I need to tackle something tomorrow. I don't really care what it is. I feel like I'm losing momentum.

But on the upside the boys sorted legos, imaginex, and mega blocks. They kept the legos and the rest went to rummage. We went from 7 totes to 1!!

Sold 45 comic books yesterday!!

Where do you sell your comics? I have a ton of comics I need to get rid of, and lots of them are variant covers. Not sure where to start. Ebay, local comic book store, craigslist.
And do you sell them individually or in bundles?
I'm thinking the X-Files ones can probably go as a bundle but Witchblade, Danger Girl, etc will go individually.

I do a combo for ebay on the better/higher value issues and craigslist comic lots for comics that are not worth the effort.

In general local comic stores at best give 25% of value and then they cherry pick out the single issues and offer you .10 each for the rest for bulk purchase.

Not sure hat the current demand for Witchblade, Danger Girl, etc. are. The were decent value at one time, now??? No idea now.

I have been making a concerted effort again to sell items on eBay, Craigslist and Tradesy. Mostly items from our wedding last August. This past week I sold $200 worth, so that has inspired me to continue with other things that I have been meaning to sell. I start by listing on Craigslist because it is much easier to sell locally (especially large items), then I post on Facebook groups, eBay and Tradsey (clothes and accessories).

I am also planning to go through my quilting fabric and post items on Instagram for sale (popular method for quilters looking to destash). Hoping to sell lots more!

Need to get back on this bandwagon when we get back from our trip. I've got things lined up to post on Ebay, but didn't want auctions ending while we're gone. I feel like no matter how much I get rid of, it looks like I didn't even make a dent. We actually just lost our cat on Monday {talk about sucky timing} so I did get rid of his old bed, gave all his food to my mom & his toys to the humane society.

I find I notice a big difference at first, but then it becomes "the new normal," and I start noticing the clutter somewhere else.

I'm behind right now due to spending last week away on vacation, and this week driving DS back and forth to camp about 30 minutes from home. It a half-day thing, so it really breaks up the day, and I haven't tackled any big projects.

Welp I waited too long to list some stuff before our move so I gave a bunch of the smaller baby items or the clothes that don't fetch money to my friend for my niece. It's great when you know someone who's kid is in daycare, because at least those "play" clothes won't go to waste. A lot of them were also hand me downs to me and I try not to sell hand me downs. Also looks like my niece will be having a princess birthday next year because we had one this year and I had all the stuff on hand to gift her.

Good news was it will bless her and it was nice to just get the stuff off my hands. I wasn't going to make much for most of it anyway.

My two bookcases arrived, and yesterday I put together one of them. Now I am in the process of sorting the books by author. It's great that the man reads, but because all of these books are hardcover, he saves every one. Our older son teases his dad, and asks that when he reads the book the 2nd time, does the outcome change?
