2016 Destash - The more things you own, the more they own you

So far I finished going through my bedroom, the guest bedroom, my sons' bedroom linen closet, 3 bathrooms, & the toy room (my sons helped with their bedroom & toy room). I sold some larger ticket items to friends, gave several tubs of kids clothes away, & the toy room is packed full with tubs for this weekend's yard sale.

Before Saturday I still need to go through the kitchen, living, room, & garage. I need my husband to help go through the garage & I would love if he'd go through his clothes before then but I'm feeling pretty good about where I am right now :)

I started on the my paperwork problem today. I keep everything out of fear of needing it and then I sort through papers and I'm like why did I keep this?

I have a nice pile going on my bedroom floor of stuff I need to trash and shred. I need to buy a shredder! Still have a ways to go but at least I started!

Paperwork & "special" papers from my sons are my downfall. There is a monstrous pile in my kitchen I'm avoiding. :worried:

Got rid of a few things today! We donated some stuff to a friend of a friend who is going to West Virginia tomorrow. Tomorrow another friend is picking up a vacuum and a chair I rescued from our neighbors across the street for a lady she is trying to help get anything for her house. I actually got the vacuum when I first moved out on my own and had NOTHING in my little apartment and now it will bless this lady the same way.

We also rescued a little tikes picnic table and a sandbox for my daughter from the neighbors. My husband said the table has some water stuck in it, so we're going to have to figure out how to get it good and clean. I HATE seeing good stuff go to landfills so I'm glad we at least get to give it new life. We were actually planning to purchase a picnic table for my daughter in a few weeks, so I'm really hoping we can get that one in good condition.

I need to work more on paper clutter tomorrow.

I've worked so hard throughout the last year to get clutter out of my home, that there is not much to de-stash. It makes it much easier to maintain too, because I can just go through a small category at a time and be done in a minute or two.

We had a Little Tikes picnic table that got water in it - DH drilled holes in the bottom of the table so we could drain the water out. Not sure how to clean inside of it though

My DH has been a de-cluttering rock star this week! :rockband:

Yesterday, he got rid of 10 boxes of stuff from the garage! :faint: Some of it went to the recycling center, some of it went to the scrap yard, some of it went in the garbage. I honestly can not believe how much he got done yesterday! Yay! :yay:

I have 2 more auctions set to close today. If those items don't sell, I will re-list them after the holiday.

Progress! :flower1:

I am one tired girl. I cleaned & purged the garage today. Filled one garbage can & have several tubs full of stuff for this weekend's yard sale. Still need to go through the living room & kitchen. I don't think I'll get them both done before Saturday. Living room will be easier but the kitchen needs it more...

Gave my friend the last few items of clothing I am not fond of. A small box gone! Yay!!!

Started on the bathroom closet too.

Ooooo I'm late to the party but I've done LOTS of donating this year. I also sell on Ebay & Etsy (finished crafts) so stuff goes out & money comes in. It's hard in the summer, sooo much to do but I'm committed. I reorganized the basement this year so I now have a space JUST for crafts, very excited AND it gave me a reason to go through bins down there.

Finally I am off for the summer and I am planning a big Pantry clean out reorganization.
I'm alittle afraid of all the clutter I am going to find.
I plan to remove everything --clean---and line the shelves. Then using a new bin system --reorganize the Pantry.
I am going to try and trash alot of non used items and make way for some new things I use everyday.
Hugs Mel

Yesterday's yard sale was not as successful as past ones but we did make $265. Each child received $20 from that & I put the rest in our vacation savings.

While I'm disappointed in how much we made, I'm glad I went through the house cleaning & getting rid of stuff. Now I need to go through what's left & sort for Goodwill, "freebie" house at the landfill, & attic (for a future yard sale).

My nephew is getting his first apt and he has nothing - so I'm going though our stuff to see what we can give him to help get him started. So far there is misc silverware, plates, glasses, sheets going his way.

He will be SO grateful!! We are still eating on my grandparent's old extra dishes and our 4 year anniversary is next week...

My family has been awful at De-stashing this weekend during end of season sales. We have been quite good at Stashing. Mostly it was stuff we needed, new shoes and replacements of things that had worn out. I do, however, need to make sure I go through and get rid of the things that had worn out.

We did recycle some worn out clothing today, but we need to go through and do more and get the actual wearable clothes to a clothing closet.

I can relate to that. If I get a new pair of tennis shoes to replace my old, holey ones I'll keep the old ones to "wear when I work in the garden". (I never wear them to work in the garden).

Things have been crazy the last two months as I retired after teaching 34 years. I have started purging again. I love shoes and my collection has gotten out of hand. I have way too many. I managed to purge 8 pairs -huge deal for me and 2 purses another big deal. I am going to go through my fall clothes in the next few days and make an appointment to the consignment shop. I went through 2 drawers and shredded paperwork. I also went through my son's clothes. I have two large shopping bags to go to a friend to see what she wants to buy. We still need to go through jackets. My 14 year old can only stand so much trying on and I can only stand so much of his drama over it.
