(2014-2020) Disney's GRAND FLORIDIAN RESORT & SPA + VILLAS Information & Questions

Did the teas come as loose tea or tea bags? And, one more question...I know you have experienced CL selections, which include the scones, trifle, clotted cream, etc. Did you feel as if the service and table place settings made the experience worth the high price of tea there? I'm reconsidering...
We are staying at GF for the first time in November, so I can't contrast/compare for you, but we did the tea last December while there. I too highly recommend it...if you are into the whole atmosphere thing. What is funny is that we "had" tea while in England this summer...and we did nothing but compare it to GF. I might add, that presuming the service in England was "the way" to do it, the GF experience was spot on...right down to the type of sandwiches that were served. This was my DD's one ADR request again this trip.

Ah - my favorite room category of all!

If I'm not mistaken, all Main Building Deluxe Rooms have King Beds and have Castle / Water Views except for 3 of the 6 turret rooms. You will most likely be staying on the Clarendon Level (2nd Floor,) that is accessed via the small elevator adjacent to the suites (Walt Disney, Roy Disney, Victorian) with ground level access next to Gasparilla Island Grill. These rooms are directly above Gasparilla's, and look directly across the lagoon at the Castle. They feature balconies and jetted tubs. We stayed in one last year and it was lovely!

Alternatively, you could really luck out and get one of the 6 turret suites - these are opposite the Royal Palm Club, across the main lobby on floors 3-5. These do not have balconies, but feature a lovely sitting area, four-post bed, and sweeping picture window views. They are often hailed as the best rooms at Disney. I have requested one of these for our upcoming stay in September - here's to hoping that we are able to snag one!

I hope your trip to RPC is awesome - we love it the most!

Hi. Do you know if they also have the stairs on The SugarLoaf club level building as well?
Yes I've stayed in SL and often used the door to get to the main building. The difference is you need to use yout MB for entry back in.

The outer building had a "reader" but I didn't need to use the MB. May be for later in the night.

So someone wrote about the "secret door " for RPC years ago. It's not really secret , it's just you wouldn't know to use it if you were unaware of it.

So if you stand facing Gasparillas, look to the left.

There is a door with a reader next to it. If you have RPC your MB will work . Once inside, there is an elevator that will stop to floors 2 and above. 2 is the deluxe King TPV / Clarendon rooms .

This is nice to use for access to the courtyard pool, gaspies, or to watch wishes from the outdoor area.

If you are wet from swimming you will really appreciate not having to go through the main lobby!!!

From upstairs to get out simply follow hall keeping Windows on your right. At the end of the hall is the elevator.

We were sad not to get to use the secret door this trip but maybe someday we can again :)

I may have gotten room categories confused. As I understand it, you can have one of the following in the Main Building:

Main Building - Standard (2 Queens) - Faces Courtyard
Main Building - Theme Park View (2 Queens) - Faces Marina / Castle
Main Building - Deluxe (King) - Faces Courtyard or Marina / Castle

It is really a shame that more of these rooms don't have King beds. I guess most guests coming to Disney need to sleep 4+ to a room

There is also Main building queen deluxe rooms and although not a bookable category there are 2 standard king rooms.

Main building queen deluxe room: There are 6 rooms in total. They all come with 2 queen beds and a little sitting area with a couch and chairs. They all offer either a view of the pool/courtyard or the beach. All have balconies. There are 4 designs which are shaped like a big square and 2 which are more in the shape of a triangle. room numbers, Option 1 design: 4319, 4419, 4320, 4420 Option 2 design: 4322, 4422)

You must book the queen deluxe over the phone they are not an option on line. If you book a standard with 2 on the reservation you can also be assigned one of the 2 standard kings that are in the main building. The king deluxe is a bookable option online but you could be assigned to either the 2nd floor theme park view kings that feature the whirlpool tubs or one of the turret rooms on the lobby side, they type is a request only. There are standards that face the courtyard and that also face the Poly and beach pool area.

Very interesting! I always love learning new facts about the Grand.

This is exactly what I have booked and you're correct that they can only be booked online. I didn't want a Deluxe, but that's all that was available and it was only $16 more per night. I booked by-phone and used the military 40% off rate. My confirmation reads: "Main Bldg. - Deluxe Room - Club Level." Since it's just me, I asked if this was a King and the CM looked and said that it's two queens. I asked if I could request a King since I don't need two queens and she said that she would make a note of it. I thought that the King Deluxes were actually "Honeymoon Suites?"

Question for the experts:

Now I'm confused on what to request. I looked at Touring Plans, which I know is not always correct, and they show "Main Bldg. Queens" on floors 3 and 4 overlooking Poly and the Quiet Pool. But, they don't mention anything about a balcony. Do some Deluxe RPC rooms not have balconies?

Also, I would love to be on the marina/monorail side of the Main Bldg. Is this only possible with a King Deluxe booking? TP is showing only King Deluxes on the 2nd floor in the area I would love to be in:

You booked the queen deluxe that I mentioned in previous post with the room number noted. King deluxe main building is a bookable category online. There are 2 types of king deluxe rooms, standard size with theme park view and whirlpool tub. These are the nine rooms you are showing on your diagram.

There are also 6 turret King deluxe rooms that are larger rooms, these have NO balcony and no whirlpool tub. These are on floors 3,4, and 5. Room numbers are 4321,4421,4430,4330,4021 and 4030.

You book the king deluxe but the type you receive is by request only. To make things more confusing: The queen deluxe you booked has two different layouts and styles the layouts are posted below.

Unless you really need the king bed I would stick with the 2 queens as you will have the larger room and a balcony. Option 1 is our favorite style. The furniture placement is different since the refurb, diagrams are older.

Thank you for the quick reply, @baler31.

I guess since it's just me, the room size doesn't matter, but I do love a water/monorail view, but those are only the Kings on floor 2. I think I'm going to request 4322 or 4422 since those face 7SL and the monorail off to the right. Even though it's Option 2, I prefer the view and I believe the Option 1 Queen Deluxes have connecting doors, which I don't like.

I have had the king deluxe turret rooms but luckily(for me) never the 2nd floor kings. Personally, I would not want to be on that floor and we do like the larger rooms. I normally request no connecting door but have not had a problem in the queen deluxe rooms. I believe the connecting room is a HA room and we have never noticed anyone in them when we were staying. I do like the view on the Poly monorail side.

Did you request these rooms in advance? I put in a request with the IPO several months ago, and they told me that they have forwarded it to the room assigner. No guarantees, I know.

Any advice on following up with them would be appreciated. We stayed in one of the 2nd floor King Rooms last year, and I am definitely hoping for some pixie dust upon check-in.

Really doubted not booking Lagoon View back in May for my upcoming December trip, but I was finally able to modify my reservation after constantly checking daily! This will be my first time staying at the Grand Floridian. I am very excited!!

Any favorite Outer Building Lagoon View buildings/views?

Baler, thank you for your clarification! I was wondering if some of the Main Building Standard Rooms really have King Beds. Now I know that there are :-)

But, what is the difference between the (requestable) Standard King Rooms and the Deluxe King Rooms with the "standard" layout? Is it just the view? Confusing!

With the new online checkin categories, I selected "water view". I'm hoping that does not include pool view because that is a separate category that can be chosen?

I selected the same request. I consider "water" to mean 7SL since in the second, but not the first (?) drop-down menu, "pool" and "water" are separate choices.
