2013 Destash- this is the year!

Purging odd sections of house at a time.

Just about all the board games. We don't play them, and the ones I do like, I found apps for on iPad & I can play against the computer. :D

Multiple paper trimmers from crafting hobby.

Linens, extra pillows, old blankets.

Attic full of empty boxes. :confused3 Liking hoarding level of empty boxes.

Finally getting to 2nd half of my clothes clothes.

Lots of extra picture frames.

And just about all my crappy WDW memorabilia that once upon a time I thought was important to buy or keep. Just junk to dust now or its been in a box so long I've have completely forgetten about it anyway. At my age, I'm finally learning I don't need all this junk to have memories.

Havent got much done due to a lot of family functions and celebrations going on. This week I will be giving the house a good cleaning for dh's Birthday Party. Today I got rid of a lot of dust-lol! I also have a large garbage bag of plastic water bottles and power aid to get cashed in. I also have some boxes that I have to break down and those will leave the house on wednesday. I also plan on going through pantry and getting donating some food items .

Starting nextweek I plan on going through the garge.

I must stay last year I gave the house a good deal of decluttering and cleaning the house for a big event isnt as stressful as it use to be :)

I started decluttering a little today. I cleared off my work table in my spare room. I shredded my old recipets. I put all my old bills in one pile and will shred later. I also threw away the envelopes. I ended of tossing a grocery bag of trash, inserts and envelopes. Next I will work on my desk. Then the rest of the room. Finishing with vaccuming.

I have a few more items to list on craigs list

How is everyone doing? We took another small load of things to goodwill and a sold a few more things. Most of the stuff I sold was because we got replacements, though (like new dishes, sold the old ones). So, it wasn't really clearing out I guess. But we have less new dishes than we had old ones, so I guess that is good.

It was shred day at the bank Saturday so I took all my shred stuff there and it was gone in about 3 seconds. It would have taken me months.
I love the fact that they offer this every 6 months.

Now to just stay caught up. LOL

oh yes... it's all good! Had lunch with a friend yesterday and she saw the big box in my back seat for Goodwill. Asked her if I should load it into her trunk for her and she said YES! :thumbsup2 She called today to thank me for the junk that I was tired of moving around. So fun! My company arrives on June 30th for a week, so the push is on. :grouphug:

All the board games gone - except for 2. The rest can be played on iPad alone or with someone. Some, even with strangers. Besides, I'm the only one who likes to play, so I play against the computer. :goodvibes

I still have a long way to go. After packing up so much and then realizing we weren't going to be getting a bigger house, I will have to do even more downsizing once we unpack in a new place. So once again I'm going to pay to move things that I will have to get rid of. Very annoying. I have pared our life down so much already but obviously not enough. Once the kids move on from toys there will be a lot more breathing room in the house but that is still a few years away yet.

There are several large furniture pieces that I need to sell before we move but I'm not having much luck. They won't fit in the new place at all but I'm not willing to just give them away as they are really nice pieces. So I may have to move them and store them in the garage if they don't sell here.

I've destashed a ton of stuff this year! Love this thread for ya'lls inspiration! :thumbsup2

Question about games. I totally know they're available on iPad, and by the time we have grandkids, board games will be obsolete.

Having said that, do y'all think we may ever want to play these games with future grandkids? Which would mean to save a few of them? Because I can't picture cuddling with a grandkid on our ipads, but I can picture playing CandyLand with them on the floor! ;) Hmmm .... ???

(And why do I think about future grandkids so much?! LOL We're quite a distance from having them!!! LOL)

Sounds like everyone is doing great!

I've been selling lots of things on our community trading facebook page. When I first joined, I was kind of chuckling at the people who would meet someone to sell a $5 item. It seemed like a lot of work for just $%, but I started thinking about it and decided that I have a lot of things that someone would probably be happy to get for $5. I'd rather have $5 for it than nothing, so I started listing thing.

I'm now up to $355! No, $90 of that was from one item, but the rest is mainly for $5 and $10 things. I post a group of DSs tshirts or shorts and say $5 for all. Meet the person on my lunch hour (that I usually would spend shopping and buying something that I don't need) and I've found that it's not so hard and the money really adds up.

We are going on a cruise this summer and I'm going to use the money to do one more excursion than we had planned. The excursion will cost closer to $600 for all of us, but I'll get close I think and if not oh well, we've got the money to do it, I just think it's fun to say the money I've been getting is for something special.

Just thought I'd throw my 2 cents in about what I've been doing!

I've been selling on our FB group, too. The money really does add up, it is amazing! Even for smaller things.

Sent a bunch of stuff to the thrift today. Started setting DVDs aside for the boys to take with them to college. "I don't care if they come back...set them in the commons or trade for ramen noodles" Then i looked and there are still quite a lot left over that I haven't broken the seals on (after years).

DS18 going to go by Hastings and find out how they buy items. We're looking at 50+ Dvds..plus yards and yards of books (mostly hardbound). I know it's based on popularity, but even if it's only 50cents per item. that's 50cents I don't get by dropping in the thrift bin.

I was feeling guilty about getting rid of them, but most I bought for $5 and a nightly rental is about $3...so my empty space is worth more.

Candyland new from Target is all of $6. It would be worth it to me not to look at the Candyland box for 25 years waiting for Grandkids.

New to this thread. Last week I cleaned out the basement pantry and about half the upstairs pantry before I ran out of room in the trash. Mostly expired food or "why would I have ever thought we'd eat...."

Had a garage sale in my moms neighborhood this weekend, just took boxes that had been in storage, already marked, mostly boys clothes and some small miscellaneous, made about $100. Also sold a few items on eBay for another $100 or so. Have 2 bags for donation to itemize and take this week.

Just cleaned out the pantry. Not to many expired items, since last time I cleaned it out.

I did get rid of
-2 taco bell taco seasoning packets
-1 dip packet
-2 cheese dips
- opened bag of trail mix ( cup worth)
-opened bag of nuts (1/2 cup)
-empty large box of
-empty popcorn box
-empty box of gum
-2 plastic containers I used to store baking ingredients

I made a list of meals I can put together so that will open up even more space once i cook it all-lol!

I was able to clear one shelf that will hold my larger pots that I rarely use(for parties)

Since doing destashing here on the MB my kitchen wasnt so bad. The other night I went to destash my spareroom and theres not much to do in there except organize a few things and shred my pile of mail, which isnt that bad :)

I also posted a few things on Craigs List so hopefully I can get rid of a few things.

DD has been cleaning her room little by little, actually the speed of a turtle-lol! I told her whatever she gets rid of I will post on CL and whatever she sells she can use for school clothes. I buy her her clothes and shoes but she can have money for those items that go over the budget I set for clothes. She has about 4 bags of clothes, toys and purses so she just has to organize it by size once she gets over her cough.

I still need to hit the garage but its way to HOT!!!

I finally talked my kids into getting rid of their nintendo ds's and psp.

We have a nintendo ds lite, nintendo dsi, a nintendo 3ds and a psp. They don't use any of them anymore because all they play with is their ipod/iphones.

It's almost ridiculous how many games we have - so I've got to start the task of trying to sell their stuff. Since a lot of it is shared / passed on from one kid to the other, they've agreed that whatever money we get from them can be used toward a fun day on our vacation - maybe doing something that we normally wouldn't do.

I finally sold a car I've been wanting to sell since I bought my (new to me) jeep 2 years ago. Does that count as destashing? Lol.

Have sold a bunch on eBay in the past month, slowly getting rid of stuff and making some cash.

Sent from my iPhone using DISBoards

Well the good news is we got rid of TONS of stuff before my sister, her husband, and five kids came to visit.

The other good news (but bad news from a destashing perspective)...we're expecting! Working on a list of what is an absolute must have, and will try to keep the rest to a minimum!

Congratulations on your new addition!

Congratulations! Is this your first? We bought a ton of stuff for our DS and I'm already getting rid of stuff that I know we won't keep/use if we have another. Now that I've been through this (okay for 11 months) I realize most of the stuff I thought I needed was really not necessary.
