2013-14 Boston Bruins Thread (the offseason)

Why does Eller even HAVE Pevs bag? Considering what Pevs is going though, that's pretty low, even for a Hab.

Did you notice on Behind the B the huge guy in the boxing ring (can't think of his name). He's Chara 2.0

He was huge. And thicker than Z. And I hope Pastrnak doesn't get too cocky, from his 1 session. His fighting style is AWFUL. You gotta keep at least 1 hand up, son.

Hey guys, I realize this is I hate Montreal , but can you read the date?? it is 2013 :rotfl2:

This gets your ire up? :rolleyes1, or are you reaching here.

It does. Like SteveA said, with all the stuff Pevs is doing to comeback from his stroke, showcasing the bag like this, is a bit of a low blow. If it was virtually any other Bruin (current or ex), I'd think it was pretty funny and just another volley.

I get he had a stroke, and I guess I thought you READ my comment, or RE read yours, and was expecting YES I am always reaching...

again the stroke 2014, the TWITTER 2013 :confused::confused:

BDL, take a look at the date on the bottom of the picture.

This was way before the stroke happened.

Mea Culpa, Habs fans. Mea Culpa.

I let my anger get the best of me that it was misdirected. It was actually re-tweeted by a Habs fan last week. So, though I should not fault Lars (yet), it getting back out, was out of his control.

It is a genetic thing down here. We are protective of our players; past and present. And where Pevs was a key cog to our Stanley Cup victory, to see him go down the way he did, everyone's hearts jumped in their throats. I wore my Pevs t-shirt to the next B's game after that, and I wasn't alone.

Ok. All the touchy feely stuff is out of the way, tomorrow night is the start of the Bruins preseason, against.......... The aforementioned Habs. Face-off is at 7:30. I don't know yet if it will be broadcast around here yet. Either NESN, NBCsp or NHLnetwork. I'll keep an eye out.

Here it is. The preseason opener for the Bruins!!!!

And what better way to kick it off against the hated Canadiens. And though the game will not be broadcast around here (thanks NHL Network), 98.5 with Goucher and Beers will carry the game. And I am told that the game will be viewable streaming, though I don't know the link.

Unfortunately, it doesn't look like we'll be able to see any sibling rivalry. Though Malcolm Subban is making the trip, early reports do not have PK in the line up. But it is understandable. With Canadian Turkey Day only 3 weeks away, why make things harder for Ma Subban around the dinner table.

Hockey is really back, and I couldn't be more excited. BDLsgal and I got our season tix in the mail yesterday. And I had trouble sleeping last night so I turned on the TV and watched the Wild/Jets game. Now I know Winnipeg's barn only holds about 12-14000 people. But that place was sold out and rocking.

Face-off is 5 1/2 hrs away.

Let's go BRUINS!!!!!

I thought it was probably that.. Especially seeing the Boston Bag.. It didn't add up..

I will take the WIn :cool1::cool1:
And the Jets on Thomas.. Sign Sekac PLEASE.. We hardly had any Vets in the there, and at that they hardly played.. Good win baby habs..:thumbsup2

Thought your best player was Svedberg :thumbsup2

Also enjoyed (not surprised though) by the classy ovation for Subban to start the 3rd.

In other news, the Leafs beat the Flyers 4-0 in their preseason opener. The planning for the Stanley Cup Parade has begun!

:rotfl2:

Though I couldn't see the game (all the links I tried wouldn't load or wanted me to buy something). But listening to the game on 98.5 was a pretty good substitute. And it sounded like the B's had a lot of chances that they just couldn't cash in on. Whether it was the puck jumping over the stick, or it crossing 1 end of the crease to the other, it just wouldn't go in. But, like Mommasita said, Svedberg was good between the pipes.

What I also got out of the game was that Christian Thomas REALLY wants to crack the Habs' roster. A goal and an assist and he always seemed to move his way through whatever was in his path to be at the right place at the right time.

Well, I'll be going to tonight's game. Though it is a pre-season game, there's something about watching the kids wearing offensive line and wide receiver numbers. They just leave it out on the ice every time. Unfortunately, I believe that Pastrnak will still be on the shelf.

The Bruins got their 1st preseason win last night. It wasn't the most eventful game, but some things were revealed. But before I get to the game, I have to offer a warning. If you are going to the Garden this year, be VERY prepared to be disoriented. The total face lift aftermath is whiplash inspiring. Imagine Jennifer Grey pre- vs. post- nose job type difference. I am not exaggerating in the least. When BDLsgal and I got to the top of the escalator, I felt I was going to have a strobe light seizure. She described it as "it was kind of like walking through a newspaper that met a fun house." You have been warned.

As for what happened on the ice, the first 10 min of the game was a non-stop hitting match. Quaider was throwing his weight around with all abandon. But after that first 10 min, the game kind of grinded to a crawl. The exception was some great saves by Tuuk. In the 3rd period, the hitting picked up again. And it wasn't until the B's were on the power play in the 3rd that the first goal of the game was scored. After some very unnecessary passing, the puck finally made it down in front to "Shaquille" Chara (he could not be moved from around the net). He kept hacking at the puck til it finally crossed the line. Gagne would later score an EN goal.

Now for what I noticed.

Both back-up goalies really made some big impressions last night. Smith was flashing the leather for the B's and Copley made a great "out of position" kick save to keep the puck out of a virtually empty net.

Gagne started off a little slow, but seemed to really get his 2nd wind in the 3rd per. His hands and stick work are so fast. Whether passing to his line mates or picking the pockets of the Caps in transition; If you blinked, you missed it.

I was looking forward to seeing Khokhlachev play, live and in person. Unfortunately he was very anonymous out there last night. And a side note, with a nickname like Koko, if he ever gets called up, do you think he could wear 00? (a little trivia for you Seinfeld fans out there) I know Blades wears it now, I'm just saying.

The player I was most impressed with, last night was Breen. He didn't really make the stat sheets, but when the B's were on the penalty kill, NO ONE from the Caps got near the net, for the Caps. And as soon as anyone got settled in the vicinity of the net, he was there immediately to either lift or pin their stick.

Next game is tomorrow at the Caps.

I got a bit of good news for you all. Tonight's game will be broadcast on the NHL Network. I know it's not Jack & Brick, but I'll take it.

Also, big respect for Derek Sanderson Jeter. Went out last night and encapsulated his career. Happy retirement Derek. A respected rival. For me, you are in the same category as Magic and Dryden.

First of all, let me say how sorry I am that the NHL Network didn't carry the game. I was quite disappointed. But I'm sorry if I gave you bum information.

But there is hope on the horizon. Early this morning CJ announced that the Bruins have signed Krug and Smith to 1yr deals. I can only assume that this deal was to just get the 2 of them on the roster so that once the season starts, the B's can ink them to extensions during the season.

Not much longer now.

This past weekend began with an "!" and ended with a "?".

The Bruins started the weekend by netting 6 goals against the Islanders and old friend Chad "Tres-Cero" Johnson. And 5 of the 6 goals were scored by rookies or those in the lower lines. 10 Bruins had points in this game and no one had a negative in the +/-.

Then, on Saturday, a bombshell went off. Though most of us had expected it since the end of last season, it still took us a little off guard. Maybe it was the proximity to the start of the season? Maybe it was the signing of Krug and Smith, and the expectation that the roster was locked? I don't know. But the B's traded Johnny Boychuk to the Islanders, just a couple of hours before the pre-season finale. Along with the shock, came all of the haters. Either they were resenting the fact that Boychuk was traded, or thought the return wasn't good enough. To both, I have to say, this deal was going to be done "by hook or by crook" at some point. Trading Boychuk now, gives the team a whole season to solidify the D pairs and their chemistry; rather than hoping they gel after the trade deadline. As for the return... Yes. Boychuk is an excellent D-man. But, he is in the last year of his deal, so no team will mortgage the farm to get him. And the plan is to dump salary, so the B's needed to take picks back instead of players. So it looks to me like a mutually beneficial deal. I just feel bad for Jack Edwards.

Speaking of Jack, in the pre-season finale, I made the joke that Jack was so upset about the deal, that he had to have Curran step in for him. As for the play on the ice, all the Bruins offense can be summed up in 1 word, "BERGERON." Bergy scored every Bruins goal this game, and garnered himself a hat trick. Unfortunately, it wasn't enough. The B's dropped the game in the shootout. But something that stood out me was that Soderberg, the "angry 1-eyed Yeti" was 6 for 7 on the dot. I don't expect him to be like that all the time. But it's still impressive.

I will be composing the 2014-15 Bruins thread soon. I'll let you know as soon as I do.

Go Bruins!!!

I enjoyed TC's comment to us info starved fans that Jack was NOT included in the Boychuk trade.

Well, last year I was lamenting that due to new work hours I would see very few of the games. I was just returned to my old hours (different off days, but that's OK) so time to bring it on!

See you on the new thread.

At 5pm (10 minutes from now), the Bruins will be announcing their final roster. I don't know if they will be able to include the lines and pairs with the roster. Especially, with a question mark next toe Krejci's health.

I just thought I'd throw out the heads up.

Let's Go Bruins!!!!!

It's finally here. It's opening night. Bruins vs Flyers. Face-off is at 7:30.

And along with a new season, comes a new thread. I just opened up the 2014-15 Boston Bruins thread. You can find it HERE .

Let's go Bruins!!!!!
