Next is regarding the pool, how far is the walk to the slide?
Is it safe for a 10yo to go on their own (obviously we will show her where to go and only if she feels comfortable to go on her own) but would you allow your child to do this.

The slide entrance is outside the pool area and across a walkway. That said my 9 year old has been doing it by herself since she was 5 so your 10 year old will probably be ok. (with the caveat that mine is a city kid and probably more independent than most)

Can I do a little dance here amongst you folks? I promise not to break any furniture.

We'll be there for 4 nights / 5 days (the mental limit of my husband and myself) in Sept. (19-23). Thanks for the advice here yesterday re: YC and BC. I couldn't bring myself to book the YC -- even though it was extremely tempting -- just due to how lovely everyone was to us there at the BC last year. We're definitely going to take a stroll through the YC lobby this time though.

Now, time to update my ticker and peruse the drink options at Hurricane Hannah's ...

Hi, just found this and I must say its a great post.

We are staying at BC on our next vacation and just had a few questions.

First, the rooms, we will have 2 DD's and they will be just turned 2 and celebrating a 10th birthday when we go.
So the 10yo will be in the other bed and I have seen pictures of the day bed and a roll away crib.
I know a pack and play is available but seeing the pictures of the roll away crib I think that would be better for the 2yo.
Is this easily requested and do all rooms come with the day bed as this also looks like a bettr option, do they provide the bed rail?

ocalla, I've ordered Sunken Treasures a few times since they disappeared from the menu. Sometimes, it takes the bartender a few minutes and a few questions to put one together, but it always turns out! Dee posted the ingredients on the first page, and I have them printed on a 3x5 card that I throw that in my swim bag just in case the bartender needs a reminder. The CM at HH's last August was really the best - not only did he remember exactly how to make one, but he was so excited about my order!

This is what I do when I get sick of running up those stairs (Mine has been doing it this way since he was 7).

Glad to hear everyone is enjoying my updates! I'll try to keep them BC specific (mostly. LOL) to keep it relevant!

My DS rode both for the first time and he LOVED the roller coaster as well. He was woo hooing through the whole thing!!! LOL

Yes, loving the updates, keep them coming as long as they don't interfere with your fun!

We call RockNRollercoaster Nate's threshold coaster. He was hesitant to ride this at first, but once he did, there is no coaster he will not tackle.

Not all rooms come with a day bed, so if you want one add this as a request to your reservation. Of course, this is a request, so it is not guaranteed- for more information, check out the FAQ post on the first page of this thread.

Speaking of the first page, we also have a Community Page with a guest list. If you would like to be added to the Be Our Guest list, let us know the date of your trip.

I believe the crib can be requested from either the front desk or housekeeping.

Someone else will have to answer about the availability of bed rails, but I think it is the same deal- you request it when you check in.

We're staying at the YC and if the offerings at the Ale & Compass are comparable with the breakfast things at Beach Club Marketplace we'd probably save ourselves the walk to the Marketplace.

Actually, just how long does it take to walk to the Marketplace from the YC?

No fair asking about CC's. My favorite CS in all WDW. Adult grilled cheese, dole whip, ahhhhhhh. Marketplace is fine. We eat in the Solarium. A beautiful room just off the Marketplace. Totally different experience than sitting in CS dining area.

But there is so much more for lunch and dinner. Hurricane Hanna's and Beaches and Cream work great. And out secret favorite sit down Captains Grill, a short walk away.

Thanks for the great info MickeyT and pixarmom! So there is no real indoor seating at The Marketplace? I find that a little odd but the selections seem to be fine. Not sure we will enjoy the outdoor seating in the middle of August but we'll make do! lol

We've been staying at the YC every year since my youngest son was 3. He's 11 now. Some years we've gone as many as 4 times during that year and we always include at least a partial/split stay at YC. Only once we couldn't get a room at YC so we stayed at the BC instead. This is the resort that both of my sons always want to return to. They have never felt that it was not family friendly.

Love it, other threads out there chasing people away so that we can get our choice of rooms and views without any worries. I read your post and started to smile when I got to the end. People say the funniest things and they really do not know what they are talking about. The only problem with staying YC the first time is that you won't want to go anywhere else the next time you come back to WDW!! Having stayed at numerous WDW resorts before the YC I can attest to that. It's tough for us to even think about staying anywhere else and believe me, there are a few resorts I still want to check out (like the BC for instance). We'll be doing a one-night stay at POFQ in December and I'm bugging my TA (Fred) to find a way we can swing a night at the BC instead (but at POFQ rates). He's working on it.

Actually, just how long does it take to walk to the Marketplace from the YC?

The selections at Ale & Compass are more Continental- muffins, fruit, etc. I don't think they have the egg sandwiches or french toast sticks like they do at the Marketplace.

There should be a picture on Page 1 (in the dining section) of the Ale & Compass selections.

Not sure about the time to walk from YC to BC. I'm sure someone will know, though

There used to be a few seats inside, but I believed they were removed to make more room for meal selections. As MickeyT suggested, the Solarium right around the corner from the Marketplace has really comfortable seating and pleasant decor. "See the pictures on Page 1" said the broken record.

Just around the corner from the Marketplace is a great place to sit and enjoy a cup of coffee in the morning, to sip a refreshing beverage after a busy day at a theme park or to visit with friends, old or new. The Solarium has hosted a lively World Cup soccer viewing as well as the first annual Yacht & Beach Club DIS meet.

As for the boats being air conditioned.......back when the windows on the boat would actually slide open, I opened one once because it was so hot and I actually got yelled at by the boat captain that "this boat is air conditioned, please do not open the windows"!!! I remember thinking if it felt air conditioned I wouldn't feel the need to open the window!

Club level and have to absolutely give a wicked kudos to Chip. Mr funny and super helpful as well as TJ who we called Chips sidekick..
They were very enjoyable to visit with every day. TJ somehow even went out of his way on the actual day of our anniversary to do something very very nice for us. We made sure the management recognized him for going above and beyond

Ale and Compass is located just off the Yacht Club Lobby.
In the morning, breakfast items are available like coffee and tea, pastries, an assortment of cereal and fruit.

Hi Andona! I have not timed the walk from the BC Marketplace to YC, but I can tell you that it doesn't seem far at all. We still used the BC Marketplace while staying at YC just as much as we did during BC stays. I'd say between 5 and 10 minutes. The offerings at Ale and Compass are definitely not comparable to the BC Marketplace menu. BC Marketplace offers not only a wide variety of breakfast groceries, but a large case of pastries, ham and cheese croissants (we LOVE these), french toast sticks, etc. Ale and Compass (as you can see from the photo on page 1) has a very small case of pastries. In fact, I've planned to get photos of Ale and Compass on our last two visits (August 2011 and April 2012) and I just stand there and don't think I can add anything to that photo that's already on the first page of our thread.

I know what it's like to head for rope drop at DHS and need a quick breakfast. We would choose BC Marketplace and then walk to DHS from there (or Boardwalk Bakery, but that's less favored in our household!) If you're OK with coffee, juice and a pastry, then Ale and Compass will be fine.

I LOVE that place! We ordered drinks and planned to order appetizers there while waiting for a Yachtsman ADR last August, but our table was ready too quickly. Given how much we enjoy Yachtsman, I'm guessing it's good - looking forward to any reviews!
