2012 Beach and Yacht FAQ ~ March, April and May ~Do Not Post Here-Old Thread

Any pics from the YC standard room balcony? Trying to see how "unpleasant" the view could be.

Thanks!

Check out my trip report at http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=2900213

We had a YC CL standard view room and it overlooked the entrance and the Yachtsman. Some would call it unpleasant, but we grew to love it.

I've posted several different room view pictures with a few more to come in a future installment.

We currently have a Garden View room at the YC from Aug 9 -15, but thinking of changing our dates to the week later in August with the new promo code. What is the difference between a Standard View and Garden View. Is it worth the extra money for the Garden View? When I booked my original dates, my only choice was GV, but for the new dates we have a choice. I think for 6 nights it is about $50 extra for the GV. We are thinking of changing our dates to Aug. 17 to 23. I am planning on rebooking tomorrow, so any insight would be greatly appreciated! I will be travelling with my DH and my 20 month old twin sons.

Thanks!!

I did point out that they are getting even tighter on checking to make sure it's guests only and that they can always go to the quiet pools as a group. Think it's time for me to write that letter to the BC again about making sure they check.

We weren't asked for our keys today at SAB...

Can anyone tell me the movie on the beach titles for May? DD is so excited to do this so I'm just trying to plan which evening is best :) thanks!!

I got the hard copy at checkin today...
Sunday: Tangled
Monday: Phineus and Ferb: Across the 2nd Dimension
Tuesday: Toy Story 3
Wednesday: Monsters Inc.
Thursday: The Lion King
Friday: Cars 2
Saturday: The Muppets

Flights were good but long and frustrating. We were asked to do a survey at ME and were given 4 MK Fastpasses EACH for doing it!!!! ME was fine. Check in was a breeze and we were pixie dusted with an upgrade to lagoon view! Full balcony too... Still trying to find our way around the resort but spent most of the afternoon at sinking sands, then the kids got showers and hit the arcade. DS found TWO Star Wars virtual reality games, so he was good to go. Then we headed for WS for our 7:30 Teppan Edo ADR. DD got it in her head she wanted to do Maelstrom so there was a LOT of unanticipated walking! Feet are VERY sore tonight. Dinner was fabulous. Dinner AND a show, as my DH says. Only thing at was annoying was that the chicken dinner for kids was $13, and if you substituted steak it was $25. Huh? The server kept refilling DS's coke, even when I asked her not to. He actually ended up saying no to her himself (shocking!!! LOL).

After dinner I mentioned to the kids that I heard right here on Disboards that the Land was open after 9 for Soarin', and I'm happy to report (a) it's true and (b) nobody knows about it!! We walked on it twice, and got front row both times since there was nobody there!! What a thrill. I was going to drag everyone out for Epcot rope drop tomorrow morning but we are all so beat (kids were asleep before their heads hit the pillow) and now that Soarin' was done in style, I'm fine with sleeping in!!! DS has some plan for Indiana Jones cap guns in the morning so I see some Star Tours in my future.

DS and DD were fighting, and I heard DS say, "mommy worked so hard on this vacation, so let's not ruin it for her. Truce?". True Disney miracle!!! :rotfl2:

Ok, I'm packed, the crap is all shoved in the closets (LOL) and the kids are in bed, not sleeping. Got a call from school from my DS - his throat was sore. The doctor got him in immediately since we were traveling and said his tonsils were a bit red and swollen, and gave us chewable antibiotics that we could take on the flight. He hasn't complained since! Totally screwed up my afternoon but better than being sick at Disney! :)

And after the horrible behaviour this morning from my kids, tonight they were angels. When I put DS to bed, he said that he and DD had talked and they decided to make this the best vacation ever for ME. :lovestruc Wow... I must be doing something right! Might have been that I told them if they were badly behaved on this trip, the next one would be me and DH alone!!! :rotfl2:

Did I mention that we got 10 cm of SNOW this morning???? All melted by this afternoon but it certainly made me happy to be heading for the BC!!!

ME tags are on the luggage, everything is in the hallway, just have to close the carry ons (once special stuffed animals get put in there) and get in the cab at 4:15 am for our 6 am flight.

Thanks to everyone for helping me make my decision to choose the BC (this thread did that for me) and for sharing my anticipation with me all these long months! :goodvibes

I hope you guys have an awesome time! Don't forget to report back!

Fantastic in progress trip report! Good news about Soarin'. I hope that continues for another month and a half or so. It might make losing Test Track a little more tolerable. Congrats on the upgrade! Btw, I think it is so hard to tour on a day when you are traveling! We're coming in a day early because of that. Have Fun!

Hi!

I have just booked a short stay at the YC in September using the latest discounts. So excited!

This will be our first stay in a Disney hotel and I spent ages trying to decide the best hotel for us. I have to say that this thread has been a fantastic help - thanks all! :thumbsup2

I chose the YC because our 2 favorite parks are EPCOT and DHS,and the pool looks amazing . My DH likes a bit of peace and quiet, I love a balcony and DS is not remotely into characters so I thought the YC was a better choice for us than the BC.

Any way, I was really happy until I was reading a review ( on a different site) that said that the YC/BC was NOT a good choice for your first stay on Disney property?? I'm hoping you people can reassure me that I made the right choice?

Andona

Love it, other threads out there chasing people away so that we can get our choice of rooms and views without any worries. I read your post and started to smile when I got to the end. People say the funniest things and they really do not know what they are talking about. The only problem with staying YC the first time is that you won't want to go anywhere else the next time you come back to WDW!! Having stayed at numerous WDW resorts before the YC I can attest to that. It's tough for us to even think about staying anywhere else and believe me, there are a few resorts I still want to check out (like the BC for instance). We'll be doing a one-night stay at POFQ in December and I'm bugging my TA (Fred) to find a way we can swing a night at the BC instead (but at POFQ rates). He's working on it.

Don't worry, be happy, and have a great summer plannig your trip.

Personally I would never stay in a standard view room. Not for that kind of money. Standard view in general is lousy. Roof tops, etc. Garden view at YC can be the really pretty interior view ofd the wedding gazebo or looking out over the front of the resort/courtyard, etc. I would ask for the gazebo view personally. Depending on where you are placed you can even get a sideways view od the lagoon for a garden view price. Beyond worth it for 60 a week

Great start Feckless. Way to hit the ground running. And way to get that Soarin in. Get your rest, pace yourself and keep us informed. Loving it.

Reassure you :lovestruc !. With the preferences that you listed I can see you on here after your trip telling others how wonderful the resort is. You'll love YC in September Andona. Welcome.

I'll go ahead and ask for Dee. What are your trip dates so you can be added to page 1 trip list?

I have added you to the Be Our Guest list on Page 1 :woohoo:

Personally, I always book standard because I don't care about the view, but for just $50 more, I would consider giving GV a shot.

Someone asked yesterday about a Sunken Treasure. This is a drink that used to be on the menu at Hurricane Hanna's. It is no longer on the posted menu, but if you ask for one and the bartenders know how to make it, they will. Sometimes they will even be thrilled that you asked for this classic.

For a picture and list of ingredients, go to the Community Post on Page 1 (same post as the Be Our Guest list)

Feckless-

THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU for the fantastic report from your first day (nicely done BTW). And I really appreciate you providing the movie list.

I wonder if the CL CMs would email the schedule to you while you are there or to me if you gave them my email?

Enjoy your day! Look forward to hearing more.

If YC is a bad first resort stay, then they must being doing something wrong!! You will love staying here. Our favorite park is EPCOT, staying at YC/BC allows us to walk to EPCOT each evening for dinner and shopping!!! The boat over to DHS is such a nice perk.

SAB is the best pool EVER!!!

You made a great choice, now just relax and start planning your days :thumbsup2

Feckless I know your still sleeping after that first exhausting day, but wanted to say how glad I was about the mini-report!!! Thanks for getting us the movie list-------------every year I say we are going to watch one, and then we just loose track of time. Or as DH and DD says, it's getting dark out Mom needs to get to bed :rotfl2:

Congrats on the upgrade!! I bet Lagoon View is amazing!!!!

Love moments like this! So great when they remember to consider others.
