Won’t go into a lot of details of rides and such as not to boar (a little AKL pun there) anyone but we are having a great time.
  • Checked in and room ready at 11am
  • Did Flower and Garden at EPCOT. Ate at Via Napoli for the first time.
  • Was selected to help with the French Waiter show("Serveur Amusant") at France in EPCOT.
  • Saw Paul Revere and the Raiders at American Pavilion Flower Power Concert. (For the older crowd!) :hippie:
  • Had Grand Mariner Orange Slush.
  • Visited Teena. Looks wonderful and still smilin’ away!
  • Walked around BC. Didn’t see any resort specific merchandise in Marketplace yet. There are painters around but resort looks beautiful!
  • Did Sunrise Safari at Animal Kingdom. Every bit as wonderful as advertised.

Love bugs are out in full force this week so not a lot of pool time. About an hour is all we could stand. Going to Jiko (saved it for last night) this evening so will post how that goes.

Love it! Lunch at Via (we really enjoyed it in February), a slushie in France, visiting with Teena - what a day! Looking forward to hearing more - have a great time! :wizard:

You know I feel like I am in a room with some of the best friends. My husband and I have been debating this with my DH. My doctor is trying to get me a scooter in general and just made me get a handicap tag recently. At almost 33 this is the most depressing thing I have had to face. I lived in Altamonte Springs, FL and was a part of the most wonderful marching band and then was in marching band in college. Years of "spran" ankels has caught up to me. We are finding out that I probably broke my left ankle a couple of times. Now I have bones have connected where they should not have and I have arthritis also. Surgery they want to do but when they start it will have to be done every 5 years on each ankle. I am trying to stretch this out as long as possible. I am a large woman, size 26 and have problems with thyroid and that hads more issues. My DH also a large man has problems with his knee. We have a 12 yr old going on 13 and I was held up with the fact that people will see two fat people in chairs while there son is walking being lazy.
Then last year I did not get any scooters and we only went into a park for a ADR and maybe hit a few things along the way but not much else because we both where in so much pain. Then three days before we left I stepped in a hole beside a sidewalk at the French Quarter and sprang my ankle and killed my knee. I got up the day before we left and got a push wheelchair to go to MK. My little man pushed me over to adventureland with my husband and I hated being a burden to my family. After last year being there for 10 days and only saw about a fourth of WDW in total. I left feeling that I wasted money.
So bottom line, I just booked two scooter with Apple, via earlier posts and I won't care if people think I am lazy or not! I am going to enjoy my vacation and not worry about being a burden on my kid this year.

Here is a picture of my Disney BOO BOO four days afterwards it looked worst on the second day. Get the the scooter, don't let this happen to you! I have nightmares of steping down wrong at the mk and getting ran over. I am not going to let this happen again.

I know how you feel, Heather. I'm only 34 and pooh-sized also. Due to a knee injury a few years ago, the IT band in my right leg is permanently 1/2" shorter than it's supposed to be and my patellar tendon is stretched tighter than it's supposed to be because of the short IT. On good days with what is now "normal" swelling for my knee, I do OK walking with my cane and barely have a limp. On bad days (which is any day with even slightly more than normal walking), my knee swells almost double, which makes the IT band even shorter, which makes my patellar tendon tighter causing it to snap back and forth like a rubber band over my knee when moving from a 90 degree angle to a straight line.

I can handle some walking at Disney, but I have an irregular gait due to my bad knee and walking with a cane, which turns into severe hip pain from the irregular gait. DH and I went to DHS and Epcot for a few hours on Friday. I did pretty well walking very slowly through the park at DHS, but standing in line kills me. I have a GAC that allows me to request a wheelchair to sit in while in the regular queue for a ride. In this case, we decided to wait 45 minutes in the stand-by line for Toy Story Mania. I asked for a chair to sit in while DH pushed me through the same line that everyone else was waiting in and I still got hateful looks. I wasn't getting special treatment or skipping lines. I was waiting the same length of time as everyone else and people still felt that they had the right to judge.

We're going back on the 14th for Pixar Days at the F&G festival at Epcot and I've already told DH that I'm going to need a scooter for that day and for our October trip. I can walk around the other parks, but Epcot kicks my butt completely and I'm not willing to suffer anymore since I end up in horrible pain and DH has to go super-slow to accommodate me. If people are going to judge me for doing nothing more benign than sitting in a wheelchair in a line, I'm done caring. I just figure I need to do what's best for my family and everyone else can just deal.

Y'all have a great trip. If you are still looking for ideas to tell your DS about the BC stay, I was thinking you could wrap up a map of the BC/YC with a pair of sunglasses with a tag reading "for use at SAB" with your dates listed. Hope that helps!

I may be wrong about this but I believe where it says pool view it means Stormalong bay pool that could be the pool view.
I honestly do not think that with the money someone would pay for a waterview that it would be in the back of the hotel at the quiet pool.
That has to be a garden view, doesnt it?
The $$ doesnt make sense for the quiet pool to be that costly. Its in a terrible area to pay a premium rate for...I could be wrong though

I just checked the Disney website and it described water view as "Standard room with a view of Crescent Lake or a quiet pool at Disney's Yacht Club Resort." I think I'll request a view of Crescent Lake. We usually check in at
7:00 am which I think helps us with getting our request. Last time I requested gazebo view (we booked Standard view). When we checked in they upgraded us to waterview. I also could see the gazebo

Hi all,

My kids have a question: what's the minimum age for use of the hot tubs at SAB??

So...we check in to the Beach Club Villas (2 bedroom) on Thursday. What do you think the chances are that we get a room on the ground floor overlooking the quiet pool? I would LOVE LOVE LOVE that! We are the entire family of 18 and between all of us we have two 2 bedroom villas and one 1 bedroom villa. We are celebrating 3 things, a family reunion, my two brothers families first visit to Disney, and my nieces 13th birthday while we are there! It would be so great to all be located next to each other, on the ground floor, over looking the quiet pool so we could all sit out there together at night and just enter in and out through our patio doors. Of course it will be fabulous either way but that is what I am wishing for and Disney dreaming about!!! Someone sprinkle some pixie dust my way!pixiedust:

We just got home from a very lovely stay at the Beach Club. But... I have a confession... I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE the Yacht Club. :rotfl: It felt like being home the minute I walked into the lobby. And to top it off, the best meals of our trip were at the Captain's Grille. We'll definitely book there next trip.

I also had the opportunity to meet Teena. She is a delightful person! Disney is lucky to have her! I had just gotten off Kali River and I was soaked... so I'm sure I looked a mess.

The construction wasn't terrible like I thought it would be. The quiet pool was closed most of the week but we enjoyed SAB so much that we didn't notice.

We requested a ground floor room and that's what we got. Garden view was nice but we never even opened the curtains. We weren't in the room long enough to enjoy the view.

Thanks to everyone for all the information! It was very helpful!

I finally convinced my DH to let me book us 2 nights at the BC in a standard view club level room! :woohoo: I am very excited since we have never stayed at BC before!
I have a few quick questions for anyone who isn't too busy to answer :worship:

1) Are the standard view CL rooms located on the same floor as the lounge?

2) Do these rooms have a dvd player?

3) How do you get to the ship wreck slide? lol From the pics it looks like it's not connected to SAB. My DD really wants to try the slide and I'll feel like an idiot if I can't find the entrance to it! :rotfl:

Thank you!!! :flower3:

Yay! Hope you love BC as much as we do!

The standard BC CL rooms are on the 5th floor, which is where the lounge is located. For our stay in February, we were in a deluxe CL room on the 4th floor and my parents were in a first floor suite, and it was still super easy to visit the lounge.

Our room had a DVD player, but maybe someone else can confirm for the standard CL room.

Very easy to get to the slide entrance. If you are in SAB, just exit and cross the path. Here's a photo of the part where the slide entrance is located:

Our boys usually enter by going on the left side of the ship (as you are facing Crescent Lake) and you'll see the stairs right there. You can see the spiral staircase on the left side of the ship in the photo. Hope that helps!

P.S. Is that golf cart always parked there? It's in every photo I have of the ship, and I noticed it's in everyone else's photos too!

It's probably there waiting for Marlton Mom to go down that slide and wreck her back. :scared: The cart looks to have a winch attached so they can haul me out and ship me to an urgent care center  somewhere nearby. They know I'm coming in 39 days so I'm sure the emergency rescue practice schedule has been ramped up considerably.

Other than that your guess is as good as mine..... :confused3

Marlton Mom

Thanks, Pixarmom! I can't wait to get there!!! We are actually staying offsite for 5 days :scared1: then doing 2 nights at BC. So at least I know we'll end our trip in a great place! Maybe if DH likes it enough I can convince him to do our next trip at the BC for the entire stay ;)

That's so funny about the golf cart always parked in front of the ship! :rotfl: I'm definitely going to look for it when we get there!!!

Side note: Thank God and our Troops for a successful mission this weekend! Continue prayers for our military and families all over the world. My brother and his family are in Germany currently and I am a little worried but so proud!:yay:

Just makes you want to sing Proud to be an American!

Ok, now for my question, Is there a wieght limit on the SAB slide? My DH is a big kid at heart but is also a large man. He wants to go down it.:confused3

Hi all,

My kids have a question: what's the minimum age for use of the hot tubs at SAB??

We haven't used the hot tubs. Your youngest is 8 (9 next year)? I suspect that is old enough.

There are several Beachers who will be traveling in the next week or so who have asked for missions. I will see if one of them can find out the age limits for you.

Another question I have is how hot do the hot tubs get in the summer?

So...we check in to the Beach Club Villas (2 bedroom) on Thursday. What do you think the chances are that we get a room on the ground floor overlooking the quiet pool? Someone sprinkle some pixie dust my way!pixiedust:

Here's your pixie dust! :tink: Hope you all get the rooms you are looking for! Have a fantastic time!

The "dark side" claims another one! :darth:

So glad you enjoyed your trip. Thanks for reporting back!

I can't remember about the DVD players in the CL rooms, but I think there were DVDs at CL desk you could borrow, so I would guess yes. Edit: I just looked at the front page info and it says DVD player available in suites.

If you have a CL reservation, I think you could e-mail them to ask this question- and if you do, please let us know the answer!

In this photo, you can almost see the slide entrance

Thanks for the reminder about all we have to be thankful for in this country!

Great question about the size limit on the slide- it would be great for you to know in advance! I'll see if one of our scouts can add this question to their quests.

Sorry, Puneeta! Glad you found us! You must be getting SO excited!

We can check out the hot tub age limit when we're there next week since we're Hot Tub aficionados and will likely be ending each day in one. :cool1:

Hi! We have stayed at YC Club level several times. Things are the same at both resorts. Standard & waterview rooms are on the 5th floor at both. The club lounge & CMs are on 5 too. Deluxe rooms & some suites are on other floors tho. Every club level room we have had has had a DVD player in it. To find the slide enterance, start at the pool near the slide exit. Follow the excited, giggling kids out to the slide! Or just follow the watery footprints! :rotfl2:

OK, Three weeks from today at this exact moment I will be Yawning due to boredom at 8th grade graduation, trying not to keep checking my watch because just 3 1/2 hours later we'll be on the flight to "happy Land"!!!!

DH and I both need vacation sooooooo bad.

It's crazy how excited I am about going!!!

Wow, been a few days since I have been on the Dis Boards and so much going on.
Love, love the secret room, cannot wait till I can experience it. Is Teena going to be the person who lets us in?

Been over a month since I was there and I miss it so much. Cannot even book a new package as my husband will have a heart attack if I do.

Love this thread!!!
