Wow! So cool! Last year Broken Arrow had about 40 shiny red bicycles! Love all that stuff! We just have bird kites, that sometimes slam into kids!

I see you are a Husker. Me too, currenty living in Oklahoma! Go Huskers!

Listening to the game now :)

Yes, the bicycles....For those that don't know BA's show last year was inspired by the Wizard of OZ.

As I sat watching it last year at BOA's grand nationals a friend kept referring to the "creepy monkey things" and I kept saying "You mean the flying monkeys?" Finally it dawned on me.."You haven't seen the Wizard of Oz!":rotfl:

Our band got 11th place in the contest yesterday. I'm going to help at the contest next week. Can't wait!

a little late to this thread. our daughter is a senior for edison high school marching band (nj). shes drum major this year. they compete in ussba group 2 open, they were a 3 last yr but dropped down. they had a competition yesterday and had the best score out of all the bands. (15 bands total) they have a couple of more competitons, then in late october they have nj state championships, then nationals, maybe well seee some of you. ;)

I could have written a lot of the same. We are hosting the TOB tomorrow (the rain is going to really be detrimental to our ticket sales if it's not cancelled all together- hopefully we can break even.) We are trying out USSBA this year, and that has extended our Season to the Nationals in November. We have a lot of parents who are really upset about the intensity of two nights of practice a week, about every other Friday for a home football game, Saturday morning practices, and now a competition every Saturday for 8 weeks. (And I can tell you there would be irate parents if we were expected to go to away football games.) It doesn't seem as though we get nearly the support and enthusiasm on the East Coast as the Mid-West or Texas region. And going to China would never happen. The past three trips have been Atlanta, Boston, NYC. We might not even go anywhere this year. :(

We also get zero financial support from the school system other than of course the Band Director's salary as a teacher at the school. Guard coaches, clinicians, busses-which are outrageous, entrance fees, etc, etc, etc all comes out of fees.

whats the name of your band and what group are you? were going to be going to nationals and ill be sure to root for you guys. :thumbsup2

Our band had their first competition yesterday - 3A. They had the highest score of the day, including Opens. They also won all of the individual awards for their group.

Looks like they are well on their way to another state championship.

congrats. looks like ours is on the way to a state championship and national championship this year also. :cool1:

We had our first comp last night. We got a 2. :( The judges only gave out 1's to two bands. They were judging tough last night and some bands even got 3's! :scared1: The director said that all the judges were unknown in this area. Guess that makes a difference. We were 4th overall and 1st in percussion.

The band looked and sounded amazing! They were louder than the band with 275 (we have 135). As someone said on our fb page, if that was a 2 performance, I can't wait to see a 1 performance. We have 2 more comps to qualify for state.

well, we ended up with a 2 at the competition. the best score is a 1. DD14 was SO bummed last night, she came home and went straight to bed. her face was so sad, it broke my heart.

are you guys in boa? i'm not familiar with 1's and 2's. in ussba they judge on 100 points, and usually the better bands will start at lower 70's and end with mid 90's.

no, we're not in BOA. this was a large, local competition.

Seeing as your in Hoosier land, was your DH at a competition here is IN and if he was, what show was he at and which school had all those on the field?

Congrats on the win.

We had our first Mid-States competition yesterday and even though it was very wet and most of those that stayed in the stands for the show looked like drowned rats, it was an AWSOME day for our kids.

The kids placed 2nd in our class, with a 73.8 and tie for the GE award in our division. They also placed, in a tie, as runner up to the Grand Champion. Our kids were STOKED. The team that we lost to - by 1.1 - was 6th at state last year. Yahooooo!!!!!

The only damper on the day, one of the cars carrying members of our pit crew, including my DD14 hitching a ride, blew out a tire on the way home. They broke 2 jacks trying to get it changed. One of the other cars with pit crew were following them and stopped to help, that is where the 2nd jack came into paly. So while my DD should have been waiting at the school for the buses to get there, DS and I got back 2 hours before she did. My girlfriend was riding with her and she and I just swapped kids. I took her son home and dropped him off and once they got home, she dropped my DD off. It was only 4 am. Dh and I were still up, as he had DVR'd a college game from earlier in the day and we watched that while we waited on her to get home.

Next week is districts, 1st step in making state. After the performace the kids put up this weekend, they are ready to make their mark and make a run for a showing at state. Thankfully the districts we go to are right here in town. No major traveling next weekend.

No, he was at the BOA regional in KY. Ooltewah KY (sp?)

UGH!!!!!!!!!!!! Rain, rain, go away. Come again another day.....like some time after marching season!!!!!! :headache:

It's homecoming tonight and it has rained all week. The field is soaked. And Saturday is districts.

The director, as of last night, still didn't know what we are going to do for tonights game. We don't have rain coats for the kids. We never have had raincoats. I went to the same high school, back in the 80's and we didn't have them then, so it's not something that seems strange to not have. With districts tomorrow, we nice CLEAN uniforms, the drier the better.

Seeing as the temp is only going to be in the mid 40's at game time and raining (who woulda guessed that), the summer uniforms are out. I am all for letting the kids wear black pants and whatever band sweatshirt/hoodie that they have. BUT, I would like to know sooner, rather than later as I will need to go home get what the boy needs and take it to the school for him.

The forecst is calling for a sunny day for districts, but I ain't holding my breath for that to come true. I fully expect to be sitting in a rain poncho with an umbrella in one hand and a hot toddie (I wish) in the other hand. It'll be a hot drink of some type.

Boo to rain! It sure does make things a mess. Our kids have ponchos and they wore them at our Homecoming a couple of weeks ago. Is is "Leaderships" job to make sure they are taken care of. They are still in a pile in the band room :confused3 ...gross. Luckily no rain in the forecast for this weekend.

Our Director has added a rehearsal this afternoon, and made the away game tonight optional. DS is going to the away game. So I dropped him off at school at 7:15 and will see him at about 11:30 tonight.

Tomorrow is Renegade Review in Tulsa! I'm going as a chaperon. Looking forward to it!!

Good luck to all in contests this weekend!

It's to be another rainy Friday night football game. We have an away game so I'm guessing they'll be playing on the track again. I plan on staying home in my nice, warm, dry house! No comps this weekend, next weekend we try once again to qualify for state.

Just got a text from the boy. He would like me to run home and get him his under armor shirt, his wind pants, another pair of socks and TWO sweatshirts. He said it is bitterly cold out in the wind. The rain has stopped - for now - but the wind is still blowing pretty good.

This is going to be one fun football game. The concessions had better crank up a couple of coffee makers and heat up a lot of water. I forsee lots of coffee and hot chocolate sales tonight!

sorry guys, weather is GREAT here in NE alabama, but it's going to be chilly tonight. we'll be firing up the coffee and hot chocolate makers for sure! everyone stay safe and dry tonight! :goodvibes:

Bummer. I just looked at the schedule for the contest tomorrow and Broken Arrow isn't going to be there. Bummer. I hope I get to see them this year! I think the contest next week is at their school...I will have to go to see them!
