Here is a link to an article in the Orlando Sentinel reporting on Disney Park attendance in the last 3 months of 2010.

http://www.orlandosentinel.com/the-daily-disney/os-disney-earnings-20110208,0,7426349.story

Previous to this in the last couple of financial "quarters" park attendance was down. Towards the end of 2010 Disney sources reported that they were going to stop offering discounts. Nobody could believe it after reading about the loss of revenue from low park attendance from the preceding time periods.

Apparently Disney was basing the withdraw of these discounts based on the numbers they were seeing in the last 3 months of 2010. Their projections for future park attendance must be looking pretty rosy.

I believe the upshot of this is that if you can get a discount (ask when booking if one is available for you) you should probably strike when the iron is hot because for the foreseeable future these discounts that we have been enjoying might not be there in the future! :scared1:

Just food for thought... popcorn::

They announced last year ... it was I believe in the spring or summer ... no more discounts, etc. Within a few months, they were offering more than ever before. I'll have to see it to believe it.

That's the other thing I was wondering... if it was a ruse. Well we shall see.... I'll have to dust off my crystal ball, it's covered with snow at the moment so it makes it very hard to read, especially when I need it to forecast the weather ;)

Teena- have you heard anything about Disney World celebrating its 40 year anniversary in Oct? do you think most of the celebrating will be in 2012?

Just saw some things advertised yesterday here at the top of the disboards but haven't really heard anything myself. Sorry.

MickeyT - I have to change my July dates just a little.

We are going to Hilton Head after Disney (for a rest!) and just found out they are all booked on July 30 - when we wanted to check in.

So now we will be at BC CL July 16-July 31.

We are going to be at the Polynesian July 14-16.

Don't laugh everyone but our plan is to check into the Poly late afternoon on the 14th (after an 18 hour drive) get up really early - go over to MK - and hope that we MIGHT get picked to open MK! If not we'll try it early on teh 16th too. After that we're back to BC - for 15 nights!!!!

I remember that announcement as well and was very disappointed then soon after that more discounts. If it does happen though I'm going to try to approach it with a glass half full attitude and assume that no discounts means high demand and low supply meaning more people can afford to go because everyone is employed and our economy is recovering nicely...don't get me wrong though I would still love a discount or one of those PIN codes I've never received!!

Teena-
I hope you don't mind this message but you know a great deal about the BC and I could use some help.
We stayed at the YC Dec 2009 (loved it) and will be trying the BC this Dec 2011 (week before Christmas).
We are going to try the club level since I think having the breakfast and late day treats would be fun and a time saver.
Can you recommend a room area/building or room number for us? We have a garden view room and there are 4 of us and will use the day bed as the kids are grown. I read the rooms over Cape May can have a seafood odor to them? We will be spending most evenings in Epcot so we love the location of the hotel. I think we'd want to be near the Club room since we will use it every day, yet we love quiet rooms. Your comments would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
David

I've been getting pin codes and discount emails for the past 6 months.
I finally got one good for next Dec and took advantage of it. I had never received them for many years and have no idea why or how I became a target.
I did update all of my online info with Disney so maybe that helped.
Good luck.

There are only a handful of Garden View Club Level rooms unfortunately. Most are standard or water. I've never noticed an odor from Cape May upstairs. Since there are 4 of you, you may not get a daybed because not all of the garden view club level rooms have them and there are only a few of those rooms. Families of five will get them first. Don't worry though. Just tell the concierge you need a rollaway. As far as requests, sounds like from what you said, you should request "close to lounge". The fifth floor isn't that big to begin with so you shouldn't worry. Here's the fifth floor layout but keep in mind this is old and doesn't even show the lounge. http://www.disneyzone.net/ResortMaps/bcfourthfloor.jpg

Obviously all the room categories are wrong too on this map but at least you'll get an idea of how small it is. The place that says ICE is where the lounge is.

We'll be at the Yacht Club Nov 11-18, so I'm hoping that some type of celebration will be happening at that time:dance3:

We were there Dec 10-18 and I want to thank you for the pins. We were walking around with the YC pin and the 30th anniversary pin on!!!!

Thanks for the map. It appears all of those rooms are just over the lobby and to the right.

Do you know which of those are the Garden Rooms? Do they face the front or back or both?

I've also read the Stone Harbor Club can get crowded and tables are hard to come by. Do you know if that's true or am I reading too many reviews?? :)

Thanks again for your help.

Got your date change Robyn. Sounds like a wonderful plan!

We have been at MK rope drop many times but never early enough to be the 'train family'. That has to be a wonderful experience. We did get to open EPCOT once but not near as dramatic. We stepped inside and our family lead the countdown to open the turnstiles. Still one of the many wonderful memories:cloud9:!

Also want to let everyone else know if you have any trips planned for July, August or September please post and I'll add to list. I'm keeping them on page 4 and Dee is transferring to front page.

Thanks for keeping the lists Mike. DOH! I didn't know you were making the updates on p. 4, but I'm up to speed again. Page 1 is updated.

Are you registered with Disney or have you ordered a planning DVD? If not give that a try. About a month after I did both of those things I received a 40% off pin code. I also have a habit of visiting the Disney website on a regular basis and getting a vacation quote. I would assume after doing this a number of times, without booking, they might send you a pin to get you to book a vacation. Good luck! :goodvibes

The few that face the courtyard and the volleyball court are the only garden view. The ones that face the front are I believe all standard view. Anything that faces the back is a water view so you can see there are not alot of garden views. I do not recommend requesting a room number or in your case anything except "close to the lobby" which they really almost all are or "daybed requested". I believe there are only 3 of them with daybeds so if there are families of five staying there that booked a garden view during your time frame, they will get those rooms. Like I said before, just ask for a rollaway.
As far as tables and crowds .. all depends on what time you get there. Sometimes exactly at 5 PM it can get crazy but if you wait until 5:30, shouldn't be a problem.

Oh good! Only 3 gv cl rooms with daybeds! That greatly increases our chances - we had a great room last year (5682) and I'm hoping to get the same room this year. Looks like I have at least a 1 in 3 chance of getting it! The room we had during our Grand Gathering is a gv cl room with a daybed too (5636) and that was a pretty nice room too.

Do you know if 5680 has a daybed?

CL can get very busy at times, and sometimes hardly anyone is there.
5:00 seemed like a zoo and by 5:45 practically empty! Usually for the evening appetizers DH and I will get them and bring them back to the room. The kids are just waking up (we ALWAYS nap!) and it holds them off to dinner. We usually don't do dinner at Disney until 7 or 7:30.

Remember, as of 1/1/11 all the rooms were reclassified so what was a garden before 1/1/11 might not be a garden now. I don't know what rooms have what anymore as far as daybeds unless I'm at work and can actually go onto the computer and pull up each room.

Hello,

We are booked and oh so EXCITED!!!!!! We have been saving to stay there! We have ate there for the last 3 trips and fell in love with it!:lovestruc

In regard to the pool. How deep is the deepest part? I do not know how to swim so I am a wee bit worried:rolleyes1 I am embarassed to admit it but I had a scare when I was younger and never learned how to swim. My DH loves to swim! My DD can't because of her disability so we usually wade around which I am completely fine with!:goodvibes DS enjoys the water too! As does older DD!:woohoo: Maybe in mid Nov. we will not be enjoying the pool, I am not sure?

This is a wonderful source of info.!:yay:
