Wondering if anyone would share their thoughts with me...I am wrestling with the thought of upgrading to CL for our trip, but wondering with the DP if it would be worth it? Any advice will be appreciated. Thanks:)

We have stayed CL when going OOP for dining. We either stay CL or go DDPx, but I know it would be too much going CL and DDP for us. Maybe with free dining, I would.

But that assumes your decision to go CL is based on the food perk of staying CL. There are lots of other reasons to stay CL (like the booze)! :)

Here are my thoughts (We stayed CL in September and also had the DxDP.):

**CL is perfect if you want to send an email to the IPO and have all your reservations made for you on the 180 day mark. Some people enjoy the fun of seeing what reservations you get, I am admittedly lazy and appreciate someone else doing that for me so I don't screw it up. ;)

**Grabbing a quick breakfast on the go from the CL Lounge is perfect in the mornings on the way to the parks. My DH and I always grabbed a muffin or croissant or fruit and a coffee on our walk over to the bus or Epcot.

**You probably *won't* take full advantage of breakfasts there, unless you have no breakfast ADRs. It worked for us because we did a lot of signature dining, so not using the credits for breakfast helped.

**Top floor. No pitter patter (read stomping) of little feet above your head.:cloud9:

We will be doing the same thing in Feb with our stay at Contemporary (DP and CL) but will probably opt out when we come back in October for F&W (just because we figure we're not going to be eating at a lot of signature places as we'll be "grazing" most of the time.)

HTH:thumbsup2

Jen

Thanks for your input! All our TS meals are dinner, since we are only staying 4 nights:sad2: Very excited to finally get an ADR at Le Cellier, so that will use 2 TS credits. We have never been without our own vehicle before, so thought that we would both appreciate the adult beverages in the evening, especially if we can take them to our room! How are the views in CL?

I thought I had read somewhere that they start taking the holiday decorations down right after New Years, but I could be wrong. They are definitely down by the middle of January though. We went the week of MLK one year and there wasn't a hint of holiday decorations left on that trip.

Decorations do start coming down on 1/1 or 1/2 but not all resorts at the same time nor on a regular schedule. For instance, this year perhaps Y&BC decorations will come down on 1/3 and BWI on 1/4. Next year, it might be BWI on 1/1 and Y&BC on 1/5. The parks vary, too, in our experience, but it doesn't stretch out for as many days as the resorts.

rusty4, I've found that alternating shoes makes all the difference in the world for my feet. I take at least two pairs of walking shoes.

If you get a lagoon view room, they are gorgeous!!! I'm slowly uploading pictures from our trip, I'll see if I can't post one for you later today!

I don't know HOW I forgot to mention the perk of the beer / wine / cocktails. :rotfl2: It's another perk of CL!

Was actually a consideration...:rolleyes1

If I had to do it over again, which basically means thinking about what I'd do for the next trip :thumbsup2... I think I would see if we could afford to stay club level and maybe not do the dining plan and just pay out of pocket for dinners.

I think we would have to sit down as a family and say "what are the restaurants we would have to do for this trip". Then I'd go through the menus and calculate what everybody was probably going to order at these restaurants, which would be easy because we are predictable eaters.

Then I would compare the out of pocket cost for these meals versus what I would be paying for the dining plan to see which would be a better deal.

THEN I would have to figure out what kind of a discount Disney was offering, and see whether it was a Free Dining offer or a % off Room Discount.

Keep in mind that conventional wisdom states that when pricing out a DELUXE resort package, the Room discount is a better deal than the Dining Plan discount. this is because you save a greater mount of money on a higher, deluxe hotel room rate
To wit:
30% off of Deluxe 300 dollars per night is a $90 dollar savings versus
25% off of a Moderate $150 dollars per night is a $37.50 dollar savings.

Since the dining plan is a fixed cost (1 table service, 1 counter 1 snack) you would be saving the same amount no matter what hotel you stayed at.

Since we know to go for the room discount and not the dining plan I then would have to see how much they are charging for the dining plan and factor that into my cost comparison versus paying out of pocket versus the additional cost of club level.

It's a lot of thinking and most of it is running around in my head, which is easier than letting it out my mouth and trying to explain it to someone else.

Suffice it to say that pricing out a Disney vacation is just like buying a car. You have to break down all the components of what they are charging you for, for example with a car, it's base price, accessories package a and b and then the special tires that you wanted. You have to know exactly what you are paying so when they say we can offer you this discount you'll know whether it's a good deal because you have all the components that you are buying priced out.

With Disney it's Hotel, Dining plan, Park tickets and then finally airfare, which you can bet you'd do better shopping for yourself rather than let Disney find you a flight as part of your package. Then you start comparing discounts, i.e. room discount, versus dining plan, versus the benefit/cost of club level and how that will impact the amount you pay for food.

All of this is running around in my head. Then I go to talk to my husband and try to explain it and he has a panic attack over the fact that we are going on vacation and we have to spend money. This is the same man who will run out to Home Depo and buy crap all over again that we have sitting at home on a shelf that he refused to check on before he left the house.

Somewhere, God is laughing at me!

Good luck with your trip planning and better luck with your spouse. This isn't necessarily a "Man" thing, it's a "you go one way and your spouse goes in the opposite direction" sort of a thing!

So how do I get over from being depressed that Christmas is over and worst of all, we just took our son and his wife to the airport this morning so they could return to their home which is two provinces away from us??? Why, I book my next BC vacation, of course!!!

Am so excited to say that I just booked two rooms for my sister and I, for our annual sister reunion, next October 22 - November 1, 2012.

If I could be added to the October 2012 group as well as to the noodle swap, that would be fantastic.

This morning I was moping around the house, now, thanks to my favourite resort, I can smile again :goodvibes

Thanks so much!

It's official we are staying at BC for the first time 11/23-12/4! So excited can't wait to try out my dream resort and Christmas time. This will be an extra special trip for us. We will be celebrating my grandmothers life and our many memories on this trip. She always came w my family on our trips and LOVED it. Plus it will be our 15th Anniversary. We spent our honeymoon in WDW! Let the planning begin...

Woo-hoo! Adding you to the Be Our Guest List :cool1:

Wondering if anyone would share their thoughts with me...I am wrestling with the thought of upgrading to CL for our trip, but wondering with the DP if it would be worth it? Any advice will be appreciated. Thanks:)

I personally like combining CL with the regular dining plan. We will typically go to the lounge for breakfast as soon as the lounge opens (7 am), hit rope drop at the EMH park for the day, have an early CS lunch around 11 am and then a TS dinner around 6. We only make it to the lounge for evening appetizers a couple of nights during a week-long stay, and we almost always stop for a sweet treat on the way back to our room for the evening.

We are finalizing our plans for our trip. Trying to buy any last minute things we need. Last year my feet ached every single day. I am a walker too at home so I was surprised. I usually buy New Balance but they are killing my arch on these trips. Trying to see what everyone else wears.:)

We are going in early Feb. so I am not sure that sandals would be used much. Do you know if the YC/BC stores sell the FitFlops in case I decide to buy a pair while there?

I don't really have any shoe suggestions. I usually just wear whatever sneakers I have, but I did want to suggest that you bring moleskin to use as soon as you feel a blister may be coming on. It really helps!

Thanks for adding me to the June list, Dee! Btw, I've been reading your US/IOA trip report . . . very interesting since we'll be going there for the first time this June (post WDW/BC).

Yeah! I'm glad to hear you are reading my trip report. I hope you are able to get some useful info from it. This was definitely a learn as we went trip since we hadn't been to US/IoA before. I am super-HP-obsessed, read all the books a number of times, seen the movies, spout HP trivia at a moment's notice. It is really cool because my youngest son has really started getting into HP since we returned from our trip. He is finishing up book 5 now.

Feel free to ask, on the report, or here, if you have any questions.

....we will be coming back to the YC CL 10/17-10/20!!!! We're splitting the stay with Boardwalk, but decided to go ahead and tack on a few extra days. Now I've got to cross my fingers for a great discount between now and then so we can stay CL!:goodvibes

Yeah! Glad you are returning! Will your trip be during Food & Wine???

Depends on what you book- standard is parking lot or rooftops, garden should be something green, water view you will have a pool view or lagoon view.

Congrats- will add you to the lists!

Can anyone give me any tips on how I could possibly TRY to get a great room at the BC this year!? We are booked as a water/pool view this time. When we were there in February we were booked as a garden view and actually viewed the parking lot and roof.....I was not too happy. I have requested a water view over the pool view. Is there any other information anyone could give me? Would online check-in be better or waiting until we get there? Thanks for any advice you may have for me. Cannot wait until March!!!:goodvibes

Oh yea ... his smile has brightened my day in the lobby numerous times!

Good to know, good to know...

I'll have to check in with you during our trip. It's always been during the spring when I spot Uncle Jesse!! ;)

My suggestion is to wait until you get to the resort to check in. Ask the checkin CM what your view is. If it doesn't sound like what you are expecting, ask if there is something better suited to your request.

It is possible for you to get another room once you checkout the view if you don't like it AND if the resort is not full. Before you use anything in the room, or sit on the bed, or use the bathroom, go immediately down to the front desk to see if there is a room/view that would be more to your liking. Doing that will cut into your vacation start time, though.

What was the situation when you received what sounds like a standard room when you booked garden? Did you receive an explanation? Do you know if the resort was full at the time?

We were told that it was a 'garden view'....we're assuming that the few flowers that we seen on the ground past the roof and entrance/parking lot was what they were referring to. They told us we could change rooms, but my husband talked me out of it. This time, I will stand my ground and get a better view. I know it's not the room that makes the vacation, but when we spend that much money on a room, the view is something to me. I'm just sending positive vibes and praying we get a better view this time. It will happen!!:lovestruc

Hi there, I vaguely remember seeing a discussion board for Yacht Club May 2012 trips, can anyone help me find it? I wasn't able to in the search boxes :( Thanks so much!!

:rotfl: Totally relate to the Home Depot situation!!! Thanks for your input! I have a lot to think about...Maybe the big announcement will help me?!

I already commented about how my family enjoys the dining plan with CL, but I am going to further comment because I just actually read your family profile.

Are you big breakfast eaters? If so, the cost of breakfast will add up quickly for you and may help justify a switch to club level.

If you will be spending a lot of time at Stormalong Bay, having the afternoon snacks or evening appetizers would probably be very helpful. If you think you will be a the parks most of the time, then these perks are not as important.

Are all 5 kids going on the trip? The 16 year old boys? Do the guys have big appetites- are they adventurous eaters. What about the 10 year old girls? Fussy or Adventurous? Or one of each? The dining plan does not work as well for the younger kids if they are fussy and prefer the children's menu, because they are charged as adults for the plan.

Are you booking the trip with two rooms or have you checked into the 2 BR suites (which include concierge services, but are not located on the 5th floor)? I'm not sure what the price difference is between these two scenarios, but it may be worth checking out. Or having the two rooms may be preferable so you have a little more space to spread out.

Hi everyone :goodvibes

First of all I am a serious resort changer, I make a lot of changes, I lost count of the changes I made for my last trip, despite originally booking BC CL :rolleyes1

However, I am starting to think about my next trip which will be May 2013 (wish it was 2012 but unfortunately happenings in life means it's a no go), which I will be able to book through my agent in April 2012. It has to be an Epcot resort and as I've stayed at the BWI CL the last few trips I would like either the Yacht or the Beach Club for a change.

I've always stayed CL but I'm just not 'enjoying' it as much as I used to, i.e. busy CL floors/lounges, and whilst it suits some people :goodvibes it's just not the relaxing experience it used to be for me, so this time I'm going to just go with a standard room (with deluxe dining) and use the difference in cost for some serious shopping at the Mall of Millennia. :woohoo:

I did think about a water view room but I don't really want a view of a pool or stormalong bay (I'm thinking noise?), so if I went with a standard view, although I know the view won't be pretty, I'm thinking it might be quieter?

It'll just be myself on this trip, shopping, spa treatments, time at Epcot and dining, so relaxation is going to be high on my list. I'd really appreciate some advice please as to what resort people would suggest for a standard view room? Or if people think it would be best to go with a water view room?

Many thanks

Actually, we are leaving the kids home for this visit. Just DH and I for 4 days as a surprise for him (but if I'm being truthful, the trip is really for me:blush:) Last time we did the DP we stayed at OKW in a 1BR (only with our daughters) made breakfasts in the room, then used the DP for lunch, dinner and snacks. I think we would use CL just as you suggested, for breakfast, then carry on with our usual daily routine.

What about garden view? It is a few bucks more than standard.

Duh!!! I added you to the list with "couples getaway" and may I say as the mom of just one 10 year old and one 13 year old- YOU GUYS DESERVE THIS!!!
