Scheduled maintenance is for most of January and early February 2011. For the past 6-7 years that I've been there, SAB is normally down in the winter months for routine maintenance. However, they only close one third of SAB at a time. I've never seen the whole pool closed for maintenance. I've seen the whole pool close because it was 45 degrees. LAST May an expected unplanned problem arose (just like a car ... you have routine maintenance done on schedule but every once in a while something unexpected happens that needs fixing) and the slide only was down for a few weeks. During that time we provided golf carts to take guests over and back to the Boardwalk slide. During the winter when our slide is down for maintenance, we also provide transportation over to the Boardwalk slide. The rest of the pool remained open. I cannot find anything anywhere that says this May there is anything scheduled. We are definitely scheduled for the normal maintenance downtime this winter (January/February). I sent an email to our rehab CM to see if she knows anything about something scheduled for May. When I hear back, I'll let you all know.

Thank you so much TeenaS for your information, I knew if anyone would know it, it would be you. I feel better after reading your post because I know my kids (even my big kid DH) would be heartbroken if they couldn't swim in SAB or go down the slide during our stay. If you do hear anything else about this "Rumor" please let me know. This is not going to hinder on whether or not we will still be staying at BCV, we love the whole Epcot area and can't wait to stay there, it's just that it will be a lot better to swallow if they all knew about the pool ahead of time rather then when we get there. Thanks again, you are the best :goodvibes

P.S. I can't wait to finally meet you in person when we are there in May (5/5-5/14), it will be nice to finally put a face with the name.

WOW - Looks like a lot of December Dissers at YC/BC!!!!

I hope you guys get to do a mini-meet like the one we did in August. It was so much fun putting a face with a name!

Have a wonderful time!

Teena, I'm having serious trouble grasping the concept of 5,000 people converging on the S/D and the rest of the Epcot area for a convention. I'm sure you folks see these all the time and think nothing of it. Does this type of event become an "all hands on deck" (to steal a naughtical term) situation for Disney full and part time cast members? What does the YC/BC do for busing? Do they add extra ones for the days and evenings or simply cut off the S/D from the routes? As I said, I'm sure you see these all the time but the conventions I go to are usually for 1,200 professionals or less. Any words of advice, wisdom or comfort you care to share about this?

3 more days until Animal Kingdom (5 nights), then its off to the BEACH CLUB for 4 nights over Thanksgiving!!!!!!!

The wait is driviong me nuts

It's not all that unusual for conventions that size. The resorts at various times are totally sold out (all the resorts). The S/D isn't on all the routes with the Y&B. It depends on the time of day. And no, it's doesn't mean all full time and part time CMs will be working. Whether it be families or conventions, we staff according to our numbers. Large conventions at WDW doesn't mean the parks will be more crowded. Most of the convention people have very little time to hit the parks at all. I wouldn't worry. It's just business as usual.

IBM holds more than one large convention a year in the resort area, including a big one in January. The S/D in particular get very busy with those conventioneers, and a spot like Kimono's at the Swan can become crazy each night. But these folks are not in WDW for the parks, and they are tied up in sessions all day long. The conventioneers rarely leave the S/D or the Boardwalk for their dining in the evenings, or there are scheduled functions going on.

Teena are you back on the schedule yet? I'm looking forward to meeting you in ten days!:flower3:

Me too, but I also hope you have a great Turkey day cruise next week before we see you the weekend after (11/28 or 11/29).

And ThreeKMom, we'll be looking for you over on the dark side. I'll have my YC/BC DISer pin on my hat.

Our weeks run Sunday to Saturday. We get our schedule on Wednesday morning. I leave for our Thanksgiving 7 night cruise on the Disney Magic this Saturday (I can't wait - it's my happy place) so a long time ago I requested off for 11/21 and 11/22 since I'll be on the cruise. On 11/24 I'll get my schedule which will show if I'm working on 11/28 and 11/29. But because I'm on the ship and have no computer access, I won't know until I get home on Saturday morning (11/27). I'm hoping I'll be working the 28th and 29th, but honestly I'm doubtful.

I hope everybody has a wonderful Thanksgiving both at home and at the Y&B!!!

I love being on the "Dark Side"!:thumbsup2

Teena, have a great cruise. If you are not there I will make sure to let someone know how disappointed I am!

Just back from a great 8 night/9 day trip. We spent the first 2 nights at Beach Club. We reserved a standard room and were thrilled to be told that we had been upgraded to Stone Harbor Club. We were escorted up to the concierge level and received the Dis pin which Teena left for us. Thank you Teena!! The room was lovely and the bed and pillows super comfy. Pixie dust does happen. :cool1:

Hi Teena,

I want to wish you a very Happy Thanksgiving on the ship!! It's always fun to be in the "happy place" wherever that may be!

Have a great time!

Teena,

Any idea why all the standard rooms (only water view available at this time) are sold out for both the beach and yacht club during the week of 7/18/11 & 7/25/11? I've tried to find some information about conventions during that time, but no luck. The CMs I've spoken to both at reservations and the resort itself said they were surprised too...The BWI has standard rooms, and we'd be happy to stay there(this will be our first deluxe stay), we were just hoping to get into one of the resorts with SAB.

any insight? Thanks for your help!!

There are no standard or garden views available at both Yacht and Beach? Strange. It must be a convention. However, are you booking with a discount or with the free meal plan or something? If so, then it makes sense since they only release a certain amount of each category (standard, garden and water) for each discount. In other words, let's say there will be 10 different discounts offered during that week (AAA, cast member, free dining, gift card, annual passholder, military, SW vacations, Expedia, etc.). The department that is in charge of selling these rooms (we at the resort have nothing to do with this) decides how many rooms in each category get allocated to each rate. Lots of time there are rooms available but they don't show they are available because they haven't been released yet. If we know a large convention is coming in during that time, they normally pay alot less than regular rates so they will pull out the cheapest rooms for them. A friend of mine that is a Disney certified travel agent was trying to get people in at one of the resorts for the past two months ... trying every day ... nothing was available and he even called to verify. Two days ago, he was able to book it and there was all sorts of availability there. They obviously released more rooms.

You could keep trying or you could book water and then keep trying and change the reservation if a standard or garden becomes available. Personally for July next year, I'd probably book the water and keep trying. To make up the difference in money, why not stay your first night at a moderate or a value and then at 7 AM the next morning, check in at the Y&B. The money you saved that first night at a cheaper resort could make up the difference between the standard and water view since you'd have one less night at the water view rate to pay for. Then keep trying and if something becomes available in standard or garden, switch the whole reservation (all nights) over. You could also spend your last night at a moderate or value. You'd be able to enjoy the Y&B until midnight of your last day so basically you would just sleep the last night at the other resort. It's another way to save money.

Thank you so much for your detailed response!! It is strange, because this isn't with a deal (there are none available for those dates right, we are keeping our fingers crossed that no matter what we do we can apply a discount for our stay). We ended up booking a standard at the BWI just to lock in a standard room in that section of Disney World. If we can move over to the YC or BC at some point I'll keep my eye on the availiblity. Otherwise BWI here we come...either way it will be a blast.

Getting closer, and can't wait!!! I booked our driver to/from the airport (on the home end) yesterday, and that was our last travel string to tie up. Now we need to find outfits for our family photo shoot at BC and pack.

Does anyone know when the YC/BC decorates for Xmas?

I'm on business trip to ORL and stopped by yesterday and it wasn't yet - thankfully the GF was all decked out - gorgeous tress and Gingerbread house :goodvibes
