For all you going soon to the Y&B, I have good news. Two weeks ago I talked to the head pastry chef. They are going to be selling those gingerbread house kits again this year. They sold them as fast as they made them last year so make sure you don't wait until the last minute to get them. The gingerbread is Chef Stefan's grandmother's recipe and is very different than the gingerbread at the Grand Floridian. The gingerbread house kit has everything you need to make a fantastic and yummy gingerbread house. They totally sold out last year and our bakery department only makes a certain amount daily. They were very reasonably priced too. I purchased some for good friends as gifts and they raved about them!! For those that are flying, they come in a nice box and could be easily carried on the airplane in a bag!

I'm so excited to hear that! Last year we stopped by the BC to see the carousel and were lucky enough to purchase a gingerbread house kit. It was oh so yummy!!!

Hi! I am new here, and just want to first say thank you so much for the amazingly detailed info in here - wow! I am going to DW with my DH and DDs (ages 11 and 8) for the first time very soon! (well, DH was there as a child and so was I but I think I only went to Epcot, that's all I remember anyway! We have Disneyland here so we're pretty familiar with MK but everything else, will feel like first time, and definitely is for our girls!) We leave here this Friday morning so in 4 days, and we will be at Universal for the first two nights to see Wizarding World of Harry Potter, then moving to Yacht Club for 5 nights. We have a 6-day parks pass (no hopper) and dining plan. We have ADRs for each night. Now, to my questions! And I apologize if these are repeats, I've just discovered this thread and have been trying to read through it but there is SO MUCH here!

1. We booked a standard view standard room, the least expensive. I think I saw in here recommendations NOT to check in on-line in advance because if you check-in in person, you can see if you like the room you're assigned and if not, ask for something else - is that right?

2. If yes to #1, then how do you make advance requests about your room? I booked through Small World. Is there a way to make the requests about the room on Disney's website but not check-in online in advance?

3. I want a daybed as the DDs don't share that well - so I guess I should request 2 queens and a daybed as that won't come automatically? Or will they automatically give us 2 queens since we are 4 people?

4. Am getting a little worried about the breakfast food options as someone else posted not too long ago. We may end up using that Garden Grocer and just having some food in our room to eat quickly before heading out, but if we wanted to get something at the Beach Club or Boardwalk Bakery on our way out, how far of a walk are those going to be? And I realize one would be on the way one place and one another. My biggest concern is the day we are going to AK - Monday 11/21 - they have EMH at 7 a.m. and my plan was to try to get there when they open to do safari and see the animals early when they are most active. However, we are not morning people particularly and will probably still be on west coast time somewhat although that'll be our 3rd morning on east coast. Trying to figure out how to get some food in everyone and out the door in time to do that!

--If we want to take the bus, does it take around half an hour? Will first bus be around 6:30?

--how much would a taxi be? And would we need to plan that in advance? Am already thinking we may take a taxi home as we have dinner plans at AKL that night and want to stay for all the activities at AKL like stories around firepit, night viewing of animals w/goggles, etc.

-- someone was asking about coffee earlier in the thread, but I'm not sure I saw the answer, so just to confirm - there IS coffee in all the rooms at YC? And is there creamer or something of that nature as well?

Thank you SO much in advance!

My wife and I were thinking of staying in either the yacht or beach club resort this july. But I notice that there are no standard rooms available the week we want to go...is there a list of conventions for this resort? Is it possible all the standard rooms are already booked?

There aren't any deals available yet at this time so I was surprised to hear no standard rooms were available.

Hi Momof2CA,

I'll try to answer some of your questions (the ones I think I know the answers to :) )

1. Yes, I think you have a better chance of getting a room you want (or maybe an upgrade) if you check in at the desk and talk to a person, rather than checking in online. Just ask with a smile if they have any rooms with a great view as you'd love to sit on the balcony in the mornings, blah, blah, blah. You know, pile on the charm and be grateful for any help they can give in finding you a great room. Much better chance that way than trusting a computer to assign you a room.

2. You can add a room request to your reservation at anytime (either when you book or after) by calling Disney. If you booked through a travel agent, ask the agent to add your room request to your reservation. Keep it simple (so you have a better chance of getting what's really important to you).

3. Sorry, I don't know about the daybeds.

5. Yacht Club isn't great for quick breakfast options. There is a small room off the lobby (near the concierge desk, I think) that serves simple things like bagels, pastries, coffee, tea in the morning. Alternatively, you could go to the store at the Beach Club (Beach Club Marketplace) OR at the beginning of your stay pick up some things at the Marketplace to keep in the room for breakfasts. They have those individual cereal bowls, fruit, juices, 1/2 gallons of milk, etc. You can stock up your room with a few things for quick breakfasts in the morning.

-- There is definitely coffee in all the rooms. Not sure about creamer... Maybe someone else knows. (I'm not a coffee drinker so didn't notice)

Thank you so much, Saquin, those answers were very helpful! I think the idea of stocking up at beginning of stay from marketplace with the cereal and milk is a good one. I have 1 kid who'd like that, and the other would like bagel so maybe we can grab her a bagel on the way out in the mornings. And I can use the milk for my coffee and we'll be all set!

I am thinking about just planning a taxi for our early morning to AK since I want to be there at 7 a.m. for the EMH. I guess those should be arranged in advance, and I can just ask the hotel about that when we check in.

Thanks again!

Isn't that Bon Jovi territory? :)

Yes it is. He lived about two miles from where I live. We went to the same high school. He is a few years older than me so I didn't know him, however, my next door neighbor dated him and turned down going to the prom with him (she said she kicks herself to this day about that. :rotfl2:).

.

Very small. My boss lives at Exit 105 and he is heading to Disney tonight. He is at BWV and I am at BWI.

I'm actually in between 109 & 105!

Two years ago my DH delivered and set up John Bonjovi's christmass tree!

WOW!

That would have been awesome to see his house. I hear it is tremendous and he is right on the water.

Seen him this summer at the New Meadowlands and he was awesome. They were on stage 2 1/2 hours.

I saw a special (maybe Barbara Walters) once and they showed his home - OMG - gorgeous - full of French antiques...
I've seen them every time they've come through Mpls/St. Paul and love it more each tour. They are so fun to see live. Well worth the money in my book. They are the only band I'm still willing to pay to see anymore.

Okay. Bon Jovi hijack over. Back to our regularly scheduled Yacht and Beach Club discussion!

I was over at the DVC boards and they were mentioning the SAB is going to be closed for a refurb in May. I was wondering if anyone else had heard this rumor, or if TeenaS could possibly clarify this since she is such a wonderful CM and knows a lot about BC/YC/BCV :goodvibes. We are booked at BCV from 5/5-5/14 and one of the reasons why we switched from BLT to BCV is because my family wants to spend a lot of time at SAB. Thanks for any input anyone can give on this.

Scheduled maintenance is for most of January and early February 2011. For the past 6-7 years that I've been there, SAB is normally down in the winter months for routine maintenance. However, they only close one third of SAB at a time. I've never seen the whole pool closed for maintenance. I've seen the whole pool close because it was 45 degrees. LAST May an expected unplanned problem arose (just like a car ... you have routine maintenance done on schedule but every once in a while something unexpected happens that needs fixing) and the slide only was down for a few weeks. During that time we provided golf carts to take guests over and back to the Boardwalk slide. During the winter when our slide is down for maintenance, we also provide transportation over to the Boardwalk slide. The rest of the pool remained open. I cannot find anything anywhere that says this May there is anything scheduled. We are definitely scheduled for the normal maintenance downtime this winter (January/February). I sent an email to our rehab CM to see if she knows anything about something scheduled for May. When I hear back, I'll let you all know.

And for those of you wondering why you couldn't get a reservation at the YC/BC the week after Thanksgiving..
